  • We are a couple of nomads living and traveling in a minivan in search of free camping, cool rocks, history and geology to discover out in nature. While visiting Cave in Rock, Illinois we found a cool old dusty rock shop and toured it with you guys. As well as some rock hunting for colorful fluorite crystals also known as spar. We camped at the decommissioned Minerva mine and found so many rocks and minerals. we even pulled out our black light at night and watched the gravel glow due to the uv reactive properties in fluorite and calcite. This was the best rockhounding in Illinois we had done so far.

Well I know what I'm doing tomorrow. And that rock shop HOLY SH...OW tunes I hope he is open I will buy something for sure. Thats so crazy about Opal and the low antifreeze I actually had that happen to my truck on Christmas Day , I was a little worried I was going to need a new thermostat Luck for me I did not it was just super thirsty for the green stuff LOL ...

The colorful fluorite crystals are so beautiful. Every State seems to have a Gem that is worth finding and collecting. Oh wow the no heat to get the frost off the inside had to be a bit scary for sure ! Glad yous got it working right :) Those heat shields are a pain in the butt, but good to have when parking in long dry grass🔥 Opal is a trooper for sure ! Enjoyed the adventure😊

Never though much of Illinois before getting there. It's got some pretty neat rocks and features. At least where we were. Yes, Opal is a champion putting up with our rough play. Chrysler should sponsor us. 🤣

@@TheAdventureCloset Yes Chrysler should. Make a video of all the craziness Opal went through and survived and end it with, nothing will outlast a Chrysler and then send a video to them letting them know it is posted on UA-cam and that Opal is on about 100 videos proving that she can out last other vans🥰 Maybe they will do something ??

I hear spring has made it to you guys. It'll be here in a few weeks we hope. Still a few feet of snow on the ground but it seems to melt fast.

Man.. I went on a trip to Arkansas last September to a quartz quarry there and stopped here on my way back up. The place was pretty picked through. But after some digging in a pile, I found some awesome crystals. I bet lots of people go during the warm months, hence why I didn’t see any big good ones just lying about. Do you know if this spot gets regular dumps of tailings from local mines?
