      The first time Dorian came to the States was in 1990 (I think, so long ago) as the guest poser at the Palm Springs classic, this was before he did the New York Pro where he took 2nd, NO ONE in the US had seen Dorian, and this was the FIRST time Dorian had stepped on stage with his new AND HUGE back. Every one in So Cal was at this show, including Paul Dillet (first time he showed up in So Cal too). Long story short Dorian was off season but not that far from contest shape, about 300#, and had the 😅 BIGGEST back anyone had ever seen. Better than Franco, better than Robby, better than Tony Pearson, better than Lee (yes, better than Mr Olympia). Virtually every single body builder in So Cal that saw Dorian guest pose knew then and there that there is a new Sheriff in town. Including Paul Dillet.

    @stumble_leiner Місяць тому +2

    I think he had the realisation of why we change it, in the middle of explaining why it's stupid.
    I don't know the context here but for the 99% of lifters who are doing it to get a bit more muscular and basically look like they work out. Perhaps this video is either for the guys who want to gain muscle quickly over a few years, and look jacked, or actual competitive bodybuilders.
    For the vast majority of lifters what will keep you coming back is doing what you enjoy, for each muscle groups there's probably 3-5 different exercises I like doing, so I will change between them. If there's 1 that makes that muscle grow 15% more optimally and I don't enjoy that exercise, I don't really care, I already look muscular and that's all I need.
    In the several years of lifting I've done I have taken breaks for even months, and looking back on it, it's usually after a period of sticking to a fairly strenuous routine (GVT, nSuns, GZCL) up to 6 days a week.
    A lot of people subscribed to this channel will probably instinctively react like "don't be a pussy! lift moar!" but realise that you've dedicated a gigantic chunk of your time and effort to getting huge, and most people have other commitments.

    Dorian debunks his position, "your body doesnt know which exercise it's doing...if it's working beyond its normal capacity then it has to adapt." If you're doing squats week in week out then your body's normal position is squats therefore you're already adapted and so the only way to get bigger is to do more intense squats and more heavier squats etc. until it's almost body breaking opposed to body building; note Dorian's injuries from such intensities needed from keeping the same exercises. If you change exercises every few weeks on rotation, then your body will never get adapted and constantly be forced to adapt, i.e. grow, as in Dorian's own words, "Your body doesnt know which exercise you're doing".

      @someonesomewhere5574 Місяць тому +1

      Bruh, idk how ppl are saying they see no progress when changing routine, cuz I've never not seen progress...
      Whenever I change my routine, I start with half the volume or even less, and slowly increase the volume till I change the program again.
      I feel extra sore whenever i start anew because my muscles have been exposed to an entirely new movement pattern that puts stress/tension in a very different way from what it is used to, and thus, I can get the same hypertrophy without needing to push super hard for every workout forever.
      Pushing too close to failure for a lot of sets everytime will wear out my CNS and will definitely fuck with my functioning inside and outside of the gym sooner or later.
      every time i see someone say something random in an authoritative way like this video or mike mentzer or whatever, i see people enamored by them and saying they're the wisest and smartest people ever lmfao

    If all you’re wanting to do is build muscle then what he’s saying is absolutely true. I put on the most muscle aged 26 working out 3 days a week doing 5x5 compounds. It gave me a ravenous appetite and my progress was rapid.
    However, there are other aspects of fitness than just strength and muscular endurance. Not everybody wants to look like a bodybuilder. Not everyone is interested in the pageantry or borderline homo-eroticism that goes along with all that.
    If you’re a normal person wanting to increase your flexibility/mobility then there are progressively more difficult versions of pull-ups, push-ups, squats, lunges etc that’ll get you there. Strengthen and lengthen.
    If you’re an athlete wanting to jump higher or run faster, you need to be more specific with your exercise choices.
    There are other aspects of fitness or “wellness” than just packing on as much mass as humanly possible to the point you’re stiff, unathletic, immobile, injury prone, and slow.🤷🏻‍♂️
    As grateful as I am for Dorian’s take, (cos he’s right) it’s very easy for him to preach about the basics because guys with his genetics (none of us) can so easily put on muscle. By his own admission, it took him just a few weeks to achieve what most guys take YEARS to achieve.

    *Dorian Yates is the godfather for being the very first "MASS monster" bodybuilder ever. He was the one who took the sport to the next level when he started implementing growth hormone & insulin into his cycle regimen. No bodybuilders ever knew humans could get this massive back then. He was the very first.*

    Thing I like about Dorian is that no one can fire back at him with the usual, "Oh what do you know" or "You don't know what you're talking about" or "How would you know" etc... The guy obviously knows exactly what does and doesn't work to build as much muscle as possible and his 6 consecutive Mr. Olympia titles are proof! Guy was a effin monster!!

    I agree. I've been doing the last 2 or 3 years only squats and that's it for leg day, no cables,no machines,no lunges, nothing else just squats. I change it up and do front squats every 4-5 months and then go to back squats, my legs have grown a lot

    I stumbled upon keeping your routine the same back in 2007,, didn't read it, it worked for me... Keeping my routine the same allowed me to enter the same mind state and get even better at it each time. In addition i could continually tighten my moves just a little bit like pulling back a strong "bow" in a bow and arrow. By having a constantly changing routine you can't do that. I would gain momentum between workouts in comparison.

    Nitpicking, but the counterpoint to when he says “the body doesn’t know what exercise it’s doing” ergo do the same thing, is that if the body can’t tell then you may as well change every time as long as the muscle you’re targeting is sufficiently stimulated. It’s not like your legs are going to say “hang about, you didn’t do squats? We’re not improving then.” The only downside to that really is your progress is much harder to track.

    To an extent he is correct on those core exercises. Keep in mind that he and all the names he mentioned were heavy steriod users. I have been a natural bodybuilder since the mid 80's and I rotate my routine every workout and have been able to maximize gains in a minimal amount of time. I still use the core exercises like bench and squat but one workout I use dumbbells, next barbells, next machine and also alternate super sets, slow negatives, high reps lower weight then the next I'll go heavy. I've made great gains, my muscles never adapt so I always get a pump and the next day they feel like they are going to bust out of my skin.

    Switching the actual workouts is a no no, but changing the pace or routine is good to do

    He’s right. The most fit dude I ever saw working out in a gym did the same exact routine ever morning 5 days a week for about an hour and a half. He wasnt biggest guy there but the fittest and most symetrical. I asked him what his “secret” was and he said “Oh its pretty boring actually. Ive been doing this exact workout for 20 yrs” He was in his mid 40s. I took his lead and I do the same exact routine. Yep its boring, but the payoff isnt.
