This may sound stupid, but I feel like this means Princeton has been misleading applicants in the past. Princeton has always claimed that applying early action offers no greater chance of being accepted, despite statistics showing otherwise. If it really did offer no benefit other than hearing back earlier, Princeton would not need to eliminate the early deadline.
I think they're rationale for saying so is that "highly motivated students apply early" so therefore the sample of applicants applying early is better than the sample of applicants applying regular.
super helpful vid for a rising senior worried about taking standardized tests! tysm, keep up the great work! hopefully i can score well and it'll boost my chances.
Good luck!! You can do it!
Thanks for the info
Ofc!
great video :) hope ur enjoying California!
thank you!!
Can you make a video about the honors/awards section on the common application, and how important it is to the overall college decisions?
I made a video on how to ACTUALLY win awards and honors, so you can check that out! Otherwise, I’d say it’s not the end all be all-most people didn’t really remember what they put. You can check out the Stanford Student Series video on extracurriculars as well-we talk about awards and honors there. Lmk if u have any follow up questions! Always happy to help

One of the Best College youtuber! 😍
😉
I really hope your channel grows, your videos are so informative✨ Also it would be really helpful if you could share some tips or even make a video for international applicants, like how to get in etc
I have made a few already! Check out the stanford student series, at least half of the students in that video are international
Iris Fu Ok thanks! Will definitely check those videos out :)
Facts!!
😉
Hi Iris! Could you do a video on how you got into NSLIY and maybe tips for the application or interviews?
ahh yess it's on my list of videos to make! Watch out for it closer to August when the nsliy application opens!
Also it would seem to make sense that not as many students will be willing and able to commit to ED given the financial and situational uncertainty of COVID... thus putting further upward pressure on ED acceptance rates.
Yes exactly.
Test optional means tons of application for ivy school 😂
hahahah maybeee
Hello, I was wondering if someone applied to Harvard without sat scores but has a 4.0 gpa great course rigor, what academic rating do you think the applicant would receive? Or would they not receive one? Thanks.
3:05 don't they have lots of people taking gap years so they would actually have less total spots and accept less people in total
Yes less in total -- hence why RD acceptance rates would stay the same or become even lower. However, I think ED accpetance rates are going to increase bc schools are desperate for high yield rates and people committed to their schools
Congrats on going on campus! Also, I’m planning on REA to Stanford, but are you saying it won’t be much of an advantage? :( should I still do it
I don't think REA or RD will make a big difference. Just submit it when you feel ready to submit
Iris Fu Thank you Iris, your videos help me so much❤️
I know you mentioned your theme in your application a few times in your other videos, but can you summarize what your theme was? Also, I’m interested in learning about biology and have a strong passion projects on it. Should I/ do I have to write my personal statement about biology?
I'd say it was "bridging divides". This theme was applied in my international relations interest, gender relations interest, and with my own personal/family story.
You can definitely write on biology if you feel it's personal to you. However, beware to not make the focus biology, but to rather make the focus YOU. In other words, don't describe biology, describe what drew you to biology and how you grew from biology.
What is it i am also interested in biology and i didn't find what to do ?
What do you mean? Just find something to do now if you didn’t find something to do before
@@irisfu6929 i don't know i am just embarrassed i have no idea what should i put in and how to organize my passion project 😢😢 but i really need it
hi, I really hope you answer this.do you think applying early decision will still offer an advantage if I am applying for financial aid?
Early decision will offer an advantage regardless of whether you apply for aid
Notification gaang ay❤
YES everybody TURN ON YOUR BELL! 🔔
If you’re applying for financial aid, would early decision helps?
It won’t help or hurt your application, unless you’re international (in which need blind or need aware policies could affect your app).
can I send the scores after the deadline ? I missed the deadlines actually
how do i know if i did well enough to send a score?
Hey Iris, I begin college this coming fall but my intent is to transfer to an IVY for the 2021 school year. Are these new rules/guidelines applicable to 2024 graduates/transfer students?
Feel free to reach out and I can dissect that for you: www.asterinstituteofadmissions.com. My students have been accepted to Ivies from community colleges. Bottom Line: Yes, transfer apps have their own criteria, apps and the strategy is different than when applying from high school to undergrad.
The testing rules are applicable to transfers at most institutions, but each is different, so I’d just look at the school’s specific website page for transfers - it should all be updated by now
Hi Iris! I’m starting grade 8 this September and I would love to do Computer Science and economics at Stanford ( I have wanted to do this since the 5th grade lol) Do you have any tips of 8th grade students? Also I’m currently taking a class called “cs50 intro to computer science” by Harvard on edX, do you think that taking those type of courses throughout high school will look nice on my application?
you sound like you're on the right track!! Taking a lot of classes early on in hs is a HUGE recommendation. This way you can bypass prereqs and take APs ASAP (and thereby take more than your peers). While coursera and edX classes won't necessarily count toward high school prereqs, they're still good for your own learning and colleges like to see that you're learning. I'd say talk to your HS counselors and ask which online options can help you surpass your HS's prereqs. Otherwise, I'd say hone in on finding and acting on interesting projects. Take leadership and be the initiator of things. Remember that extracurriculars are weighed equally (maybe even more than) academics!
Iris Fu thanks for the tips! My school doesn’t have many AP classes so I’m looking into self studying a lot on my sophomore, junior and senior year (not freshmen because I want to take the ones my school offer during freshman year).
Shayan Sarnevesht the problem sets are definitely very challenging! But I’m taking my time and making it my main “goal” this summer.
omg im starting 8th grade too and doing cs50 lol
im on pset5
Sania B the psets are pretty challenging. I just got done with the second week. Cool to see that other people our age also have similar interests like computer science!
is it compulsory to give toefl as an indian student wanting to get accepted into harvard?
I believe so -- Harvard's website would also have the most updated info esp during COVID times
if we need great financial aid should we still apply early decision?
You can. There’s nothing different about applying ED with or without aid
Hi. I wanted to know how to make a website for free. How did you go about making your website?
i used wordpress.org with bluehost, but it's about $3-5/mo depending on how long you subscribe for
Notification gang
gang gang!!
does anyone know if they accept single scores? or do they average all of them? the info on Naviance is sooo confusing lol T-T
What do you mean by single... like by section of the exam?
Feel free to reach out and I can dissect that for you: www.asterinstituteofadmissions.com
@@irisfu6929 As in, do colleges look at multiple sittings, or just whichever one you send? I got a 1290 on my December SAT but a much higher grade on my March SAT. Can I send in the March one instead of the December one? Or will they look at both? Regardless, I signed up for the September SAT in case they average our SAT scores. I know that the recent pandemic has pushed the colleges into making test scores optional, but I'd still like to send them in. Thank you so much for taking the time out and responding to me!
P.S. - sorry for the confusion, that's how Naviance worded it, so I assumed that it was the technical term.
Hi Iris! I’m applying for NSLI-Y Virtual for this fall. Do you have any tips and can you possibly look over my essay? Thanks!
ahhh yet another request for a nsliy tips video!! Thanks for letting me know about this bc now I know it's in HIGH DEMAND lol. Will make one soon/in August when the application opens!
Wait also is the deadline earlier than that for virtual fall? Not very well-versed in the virtual programs
Iris Fu Yea for the Virtual Fall, the deadline is June 30
Oh oof... that’s coming up soon!! My biggest tip is to write authentically and genuinely. Don’t try to be someone you’re not!
Super good luck!!! Keep me updated on how it goes!
If i'll apply for financial aid, will it be bad to apply early decision?
It may be if the financial aid package the school offers you isn’t actually enough. However, you can always negotiate and supposedly if the package doesn’t meet your needs, then you can opt out of the binding decision (and attend another institution). This is the only situation where early decision can become non binding.
@@irisfu6929 got it,thank you!
Will testing requirements resume for applicants applying in the year 2022?
It may or may not. Some schools already announced that they will revert to test requirements. Others like the UCs are committed to ridding all standardized test requirements. General trend is that testing will matter less/be more optional.
UCs say they are developing their own test?
Mam is it true that Early Action 2020 is Cancelled by IVYs?
Only cancelled by Princeton, I believe

Hey iris i am international student so what about the TOEFL exam and how can the cancellation of the Standardized test effect our application?btw i didn't take the SAT before so!??
Your toefl score? I'd do some online searching for the individual school, because each school has different policies. I don't think this new test optional policy will affect you application too much though. Remember, tests are not cancelled, they're just optional.
@@irisfu6929 i was preparing for the SAT and i stopped after i heard that it's not required .so should i keep preparation??
I think so. Scoring well will still help you
