Hi Caroline!! Ofc, so I applied to this program called Creators Institute (ran by a Georgetown professor, Eric Koester). The program has a partnership with a publishing house and they provide a lot of resources/support for authors!! Definitely check it out as something to do this fall.
@@irisfu6929 OMG I'm in the Summer cohort with Koester! It's such a cool experience, especially having a personal editor, an assistant, and a whole community! It was daunting at first, especially bc I'm a rising senior is HS, but having these resources makes the process so much more engageable!

Iris!! Thank you for this video. What you said about writing a book proposing changes the education system - I was literally thinking the same thing!! But with the Canadian education system. I am a third year psych student in Canada, and I was also just telling my prof about how the high school is not designed for students on either end of the spectrum: those who struggle and those who wish to push academic boundaries. Another huge problem is the lack of BIPOC representation in the English and history curriculum. I don’t have a publisher or anything (not nearly as organized as where you are XD). Maybe once I am a few thousands words in, we could share our experiences and what we have! I would love to chat with you about your ideas on the education system sometime! All the best! ❤️
Hi Alice!! This is so exciting to meet someone who actually cares about the education system too! It just doesn't seem like a mainstream social issue atm. I'd love to connect and chat more about the education system. Good luck on your book and keep me updated on how it goes!

Thanks Renita! I would recommend that you look for ways to organize online. Try organizing a virtual zoom tutoring session, or something similar. Anything you do for your community so hour taking pay would count as volunteering!!
Hi Melody! The reality is that it doesn't always happen. However, I think by setting a high bar (e.g. having more things on your to do lists than you can really do in a day), you wound up doing at least part of it, which is more than what you would have done if you just had a small list. I hope that makes sense. Basically, even beyond the day to day to do lists, I'm always pushing myself with goals that are one step beyond achievable, then I always end up accomplishing at least 80 (and at best 100) percent of that.
also that might not have directly answered your question haha. As for high energy and motivation, I think it really comes from having goals that you are super excited about. It also helps to look at life through a positive lens (e.g. every failure is a growth experience, little things like a warm cup of tea is a blessing). An excited and positive perspective for the world makes you a more high energy and motivated person.
Hey Iris! This was so helpful! Would it be possible for you to upload a .docx version of the worksheet, for that would be easier for ppl to make a copy of and edit rather than a pdf? Thank you so much!
Hey Sahaana! I think if you control a (select all) then control c, you can copy the whole pdf and paste it into Microsoft word or a google doc. Then you can edit from there! Let me know if that works for you and if it doesn’t, I’ll post another version of it! 😊

hey iris! i saw your earlier video about how you took college classes over the summer. since they're quite expensive, i was wondering if you were able to get any financial aid for that as an e-campus student, and if so from where? thank you so much!
I got a scholarship from ZONTA (they were the only org that offered a scholarship for non-seniors), but that's about it. the situation is quite unfortunate, but i was really lucky to have my mom who supported me. if the situation is really not doable, i'd recommend talking with your counselor to see if your hs can cover college summer classes as "dual enrollment". i've never done this before, but i think it could work, since your hs is technically supposed to support your education. your counselor could also refer you to scholarship/aid opportunities
Hi Iris! I know its a been a while since you have posted the video, but I had a question regarding the Creator Institute program you applied for. Is this program free or does it cost money to participate?
hey iris! your videos are always so helpful, thank you for uploading them!! :) i wanted to ask you if you had any advice on my course selections for my junior yr.. i'm trying to decide if I should add a STEM course (engineering) into my course schedule, even if I'm not interested in pursuing stem in college - i'm actually hoping to go into something along the lines of business/economics/foreign policy/law. and since i'm also taking ap bio next year, would it look strange for me to double up on science courses when the rest of my application doesn't really indicate that much interest in stem? just trying to decide whether it would make sense given my interests and the rest of my app (it's not that i hate stem courses, but i just don't feel it would add much for my app)
I would say that it’s not a huge deal that you take this class or not. Taking it will show that you’re going for a rigorous course load, which is good, but not taking it won’t hurt you since you’re not going into stem. Overall, I’d say try to take the most rigorous course load possible that still aligns with your interests. But even if you’re going beyond your “scope of interests” that’s totally fine. Colleges have gen ed requirements for the reason of people exploring other subjects out of their interest areas
ahaha I think I just traveled to China to visit my family, did a short study abroad in Spain, and went on vacation with my mom. Basically a lot of travelling. I think I might have also studied for some SAT subject tests just to get those over with.
hey Iris!! Just wanted to thank you for your video content! I’m going to be honest, you are the only youtuber I have found that is pursuing extracurriculars I am interested in! Hey Sydney!! Would it be okay if you ask your questions here? We can continue the convo in this thread. I’d love to answer any questions that you have about my projects!
of course!! I was really curious as to how you came up with so many ideas on brilliant extracurriculars? I have never seen anyone do quite the same things as you, and I love how unique your ideas are! Also, how do you go through the research stages for writing a book? I’ve seen your other videos, but I’d love to watch some more in the future! How did you manage your time during high school with so many things you were doing?? I feel like I’m not doing nearly as much as you, but I’m still very stressed! I will refrain from asking too many questions hehe :)
@@sydneyanderson2484 1) on coming up with extracurriculars: I think this really comes down to thinking outside of the box or just reflecting on what really matters to you! Because you're so unique as an individual, it's likely that your interests will vary drastically from others. Therefore, just pursue the things that interest you, and it will probably naturally turn out to be different/unique. 2) on doing research for a book: this really depends on the type of book. For the intro econ book, I reviewed a lot of my past textbooks and the AP book to extract the main econ concepts. Then, I took notes on each concept, almost as if I were doing so for a class, and summarized everything in easy to understand language. For my book on the future of education, I'm planning to interview many policymakers, ed tech startup ceo's, or other big players in the field. Then, I plan to do some online researching (reading research papers, articles, watching documentaries) to complete the research process. 3) I used a planner religiously (the Passion Planner is gold), and quit things I didn't care about haha. Also, focusing on one thing at a time with no distraction was really important to making the most out of every minute. Finally, I think doing things in small chunks (e.g. 1 hr studying, 1 hr extracurricular, another hour studying) was helpful. These are some really great questions! I get a lot of video ideas from questions people ask so please feel free to keep them coming! Also, I highly recommend the book "the upside of stress" or the ted talk by the author. She really paints the way I view stress as something that can help rather than destroy our lives :)

I'm working on getting rid of my formal/educational presentation "personality". UA-cam blocked my upload because it used copyright music. This is a link on Vimeo. It was for a high school class, it was fun to do, but so dry. vimeo.com/416077606. By the way, my dad said "have her read SPIN selling by Neal Rackham. He said he uses the concepts to close 6-8 figure deals with banks, governments, fortune 100 companies, etc. Can't wait to see what you do in college!! My summer plan is around learning my 4 AP classes so Sophomore year is easy. AP Stats, AP Calc, AP CSA and APWH. I'm also trying to up my programming skill w/ R for statistics. Other than that, I'm prepp'ing for the SAT and MATH II subject test in August (hopefully). I've been scoring 1520-1580 on SAT and 800 on Math II, so hopefully I can just be done with them forever in August.
Nice video!! It’s great that you know what you need to work on. It seems like you’re going to have a super productive summer and I wish you the best of luck!! Also gonna have to check out that sales book recommended by your dad haha, thx for sharing!
Interesting video! :) I have been struggling with being productive, I feel like the quarantine stalled my progress 😪 I recently uploaded a video sharing how focusing on progress instead of perfection has helped me reach more of my goals. ahh yes I understand!! Thank you for your input :) here are some video ideas I would love to see! Only do them if you like them thoughhh.
•day in my life !
•extracurriculars for economic/business majors !
•how to make an impact as a teenager !

I do still have productive days, and when I have a bad day I don't let it drag me down :)
