because following the herd means more compatible lenses, more accessories, better secondhand value and easier workflow. These are kind of important things when buying a camera.
What about brilliant, old, cheap lenses with Pentax K mount which are still compatible with Pentax K-1? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that Pentax is good for everyone, because it probably isn't. I'm trying to say that it is good to think out of the box and chose things that suits your needs, not somebody else.
I did not know about the lenses that changes a lot as I thought the lenses would be more preparatory. You are right that people should choose the camera that suits their needs.
Comparisons are useless, except for people who can't shoot for shit and then run to DPR and pretend to be photographers, never post pics, and just ramble on about how their team/brand is winning over another.
Never owned a pentax, but have always respected pentax for not being canon or nikon, they have always done their own thing, who knows, maybe one day they will dominate the camera market, it could happen, just look at sony, all it takes is one amazing camera and im sure pentax could do it! By the way, love seeing my red cliffs on drtv =)
No one unsubscribes from Digital Rev. Ever! Except me, now ! What a load of bullox! What is the deal with camera reviewers knocking the Pentax Pixel Shift. Pentax has stated that this pixel Shift technology is designed for non moving subjects. DPreview tests pixel shift on a waterfall in the middle of a field of flowers gently blowing in the wind. DigitalRev tests pixel shift on the seaside, with the ocean as a backdrop. Let me guess, they found issues with the images! Kai knows better. This is a deliberate attempt to knock a fantastic camera for no apparent reason. By the way, I don't even like Pentax cameras. But to put the camera at a disadvantage during a review is ...? (Unsubscribed!!!) P.S. These guys are not morons. Quite the opposite, I'm sure. That's why I left. They know exactly what they are doing!
Strong words but I agree. It's so strange(?) that these reviewers (DPreview and DigitalRev) are testing Pixel Shift against moving objects! That makes no sense. But as you say, they are intelligent and I'm sure they know what they do.
The vibrator caught me off guard lol Kai, your humor strikes me in the absolute perfect place. keep it up. I've learned a lot about photography in general from you.
Damn son Kai is an OG!! Rocking evisu jeans with the stone island jacket!! quality brands right there. And im very picky with the brands that I actually support
If You combine the fix dioptre correction lenses and adjustable element +1/-2.5 You do not need to wear glasses so can take advantage of the viewfinder and not rely on Your glasses so screen being on is no problem.
thanks for the review. As a Pentax long time user i have been waiting for this camera for a long time. K-1 offers the best price for a full frame camera on the market right now.
ignoring the built in SR? The built in WIFI? The built in GPS? oh wait, not canon, nikon, leica .... and suddenly I remember, why I stopped watching DRTV.
Kay still has a good point with the lack of eye-detection cell, having the LCD screen on while looking at the OVF is annoying. Pentax should offer the possibility to switch it on/off by a single press on the fx2 button (e.g.) as a workaround... What is not in the review is the Astrotracer feature, with wich you can make great pictures (well, if it could stop raining here, I'd use it :/ ) This is perhaps the most that we can get of a review from DRTV (i.e. with a Nikon strap on it ;) ), but Kay had some nice words about the gears/lenses, so I take them.
Imho the unique feature here is the camera internal image stabilazation, so you can shoot stabilized image with every lens..then it has the K-Mount which is really nice for adapting old glass. I think the electronic viewfinders found in the a7(r)II are not for every one so this camera offers a nice alternative for glas and bokeh connoisseurs who prefer an optical viewfinder.
The k mount alone is the biggest selling point. My favorite lenses are k mount that I use with my mirrorless cameras. With this out, I may finally go back to dslr.
DRTV. Kai. For years I've watched. A chuckle or two for sure. The "reviews" hit a mark somewhere, as I keep watching them. Maybe it's like a train-wreck that you can't stop watching. Maybe something else. Some reviews are harder to watch than others. This one, was one of the harder ones. I miss Alamby.
Looks like an amazing camera. I'd get one. Just think of all the different glass that can be used. I heard the sensor was a Sony based one. Nice review Pentax / Ricoh came out with a winner.
It is a newer and better version of the 36mxp sensor in D810. It offers 1+ stop better ISO and DR. And many cool features, and for a lower price :) I use 2 K-1 at work.
+Kenneth Sporsheim I don't think you get what I'm saying. It's a different sensor altogether. Not a revision, it's completely different hardware from a different manufacturer.
Honestly, that LED at the front for changing lenses in the dark is brilliant. But no sensor by the eyepiece to turn off the LCD? So much for night shooting, lol. Also, subliminal "DigitalRevTV is Crazy" at 8:19
it doesnt have a sensor to disable the rear LCD. not sure if this is a weather sealing reason or something else? regardless you can press info twice to turn off rear screen. easy :) highly customisable.
I've owned Pentax ever since the K1000 was first released, Pentax medium format; up to the first day release of the Pentax K-1. Unfortunately Pentax is not my only camera system; I also own and regularly use Hasselblad, Leica, and Canon. Pentax full frame (or even not full frame) is great for most users, but with a few noted restrictions. Cons: Not for items such as weddings, indoor portraits (unless one like *a lot* of off camera lighting) most action photography without going to manual settings, and especially video. Very limited selection of lenses, especially the name brand lenses, and also especially for full frame use. Also limited use of real professional flash such as the higher end Metz units and Quantum units. Pros: The price, some of the best WR in the industry (even cameras costing 3-4x not as much WR) with some of the lenses having the added WR feature, durability. The ability to use lenses going back to the 70's - yet with some restrictions if one wants to use full frame lenses, and some third party lenses do not work well with Pentax full frame. Borrow one if able to take it for a test run. Strongly weight whether this camera and system will fit ones needs; both now and into the future
The Pentax K-1 should be reviewed by anyone who isn't owned by another camera manufacturer. There are two Pentax K-1's in my photography group, and they are awesome! I'm strongly considering adding the K-1 to my 36mm sensor group of cameras. It would fit nicely with my D610 and 6D.
Currently working on my own review of this camera, It's pretty good but i wish it had some evf overlay for peaking and knowing what mode the top right dials are in. It took me quite some time to figure out how to use an ovf after using mirrorless for the last 5 years..
Will you guys' be doing a hands-on review of the Pentax K70? If so, please compare it to the Canon 70D in the real world video department (color depth, low light performance, and autofocusing). I'm really torn between which one I should buy.
If You had a Pentax correction lens on the view finder You would not need glasses on and if You had a -3 correction You can also the dial in adjustment to fine tune. Then no problem with screen. Just wish I could afford some of the new lenses.
Good video, Kai! Wish it was even longer (sorry Greg). The Pentax looks like a great camera but the slow max flash sync speed is what would prevent me from buying it. My D610 has 1/200 max sync speed and I wish it was higher. On another note, I want that backpack but it's bloody expensive! #KaiPleaseDoSomeStreetPhotographyinLondonKThanksBye
I'mm pretty bummed to see some of the info that's come out about the K-1. I'm aiming for a full frame that has built in GPS, flippy screen, and excellent weather sealing. K-1/K-1ii had been at the top of that list, but with the issues some people have mentioned with PixelShift, and a few other odds and ends, I'm finding myself slide more towards the D750, which I'm not excited about. It just feels like settling for an average, boring camera, when stuff like Fuji and Pentax have a ton more flare and mystique around them.
Kenneth Sporsheim I'm thinking more about the lenses. Nikon has a wider selection of lenses and Tamron and Sigma don't really do many Pentax mounts. So you are very limited with lenses.
I don't think the system with two top wheels to decide what the one selection wheel will change will be clunky. You set it for what you want to change for the kind of photography you at the moment. I expect most often, ISO, then leave it there, but that's just me. Would not mind having the K-1 for stills, but I'm still very happy with my NX1, even if I still think of myself as a Pentaxian (using lots of adapted K-mount glass on my NX1 bodies).
I often think that spiritually the NX1 is the mirrorless that most reminds me of a Ricoh/Pentax K camera. I'd hoped that Samsung would sell DSLR/mirrorless division to Ricoh and we would see an evolution of the NX1 as the K02 :)
Hi, I was wondering if you can do a review shooting/record with the Nikon D800 and not the Canon? Just to see if the videographer can make the D800 shine like Canon on video why you doing your reviews. Our do you think your Videographer Lout can't do it? Challenge!!!
how do you locate models in hk? what agency do yall use? I am living in Shenzhen and about to start looking for models here and in hk so I can practice my portraiture.
hello DigitalRev and camera geeks, I have a crucial question to ask... I have a canon 6D with, 24-105mm, 8-15mm, 70-200mm f4, 50mm f1.4, and a few extra accessories. I want to take a more serious path in photography and thinking about turning to medium format film photography. I would like a Hasselblad 500cm but i don't want to use my iPhone for everyday shooting. would a fujifilm X100T and a Hasselblad 500CM cover for the mighty 6D with with all the sexy red rings? ps- I shoot landscape and studio portraits and a little bit of street photography and video work.
I didn't buy the K-1 for the video. I bought it because it takes wicked awesome images and I can use all the awesome pentax lenses I inherited.
This is probably one of the most "photo focused" videos Kai has done. You can tell he really loves the K1.
"Why follow the herd when people tend to take photos alone?" Deep.
I think he is telling us he is lonely. I bet he is missing the HK crew.
because following the herd means more compatible lenses, more accessories, better secondhand value and easier workflow. These are kind of important things when buying a camera.
What about brilliant, old, cheap lenses with Pentax K mount which are still compatible with Pentax K-1? Yeah vinnie, pentax has some great, if not historic, lenses. their forums photog forums are some of the most active i've stumbled across...
The K-1 is awesome, one of the best deals in all of photography. Great job, Ricoh Pentax.
Yes i still kinda want one. The original too, none of that mark 2 stuff.
I cried when the "weather seal test" was lensless.....my god I need a Xanax.
An idiot!
At least he didn't light it on fire.
and this nice sea water too
Well it's a great ad for Pentax if it can survive stuff like that.
‘I finally got my hands on the new Pentax Kai Wong.’
HA! I'm calling it that from now on.
😂😂😂😂
lol 😂😂😂
Why there's no thumbs up button for your comment.
There’s the +1 thing ;)
THAT is why we want more Kai! His reviews are the best.
Kind of surprised to see a Pentax being reviewed. They completely ignored the K3.
Comparisons are useless, except for people who can't shoot for shit and then run to DPR and pretend to be photographers, never post pics, and just ramble on about how their team/brand is winning over another.
I rarely post pics, I print them. Does it make me less of a photographer? I don't think so.
+Oxmon only because you're lying
***** Robust argumentation. I'm amazed.

Kinda refreshing to see serious review with Ian, humorous Kai, Lok "weird" review, you guys bring a fresh air and variations in this channel
Never owned a pentax, but have always respected pentax for not being canon or nikon, they have always done their own thing, who knows, maybe one day they will dominate the camera market, it could happen, just look at sony, all it takes is one amazing camera and im sure pentax could do it!

"Oh my goodness, Kai dropped something! How unexpected!"
-No one.
Kai has always been on the channel since day one, and im used to him and if he leaves im not watching Digitalrev again
Sean Larkin dude hes been for like 6 years check thier first videos
Sean Larkin k
that's quite an ignorant statement Mr. Vade
He left xDDDD
This video has not been conclusive. FYI pentax k-1 is the best bang for buck Full Frame out there. And I am a canon fanboy.
exactly
Love DRTV the only funny camera reviews 🤗 but also very good reviews 🤓
DigitalRev TV
is CRAZY
Did you only find out now? :D
Coming to DRTV for a camera review is like listening to Eddie Izzard on Brexit. Thank goodness for TCSTV.
Wanna try again Sophie?
Oh dear, what a shame. never mind haha
We get it. You are privy to Nikon. But the only problem is the Pentax K1 blows the Nikon 850 out of the water.
A bit all over the place throughout, but the summary at the end landed in fair territory. Already bought my K-1 however and love it.
No one unsubscribes from Digital Rev. Ever! Except me, now ! What a load of bullox! What is the deal with camera reviewers knocking the Pentax Pixel Shift. Nieva DTUP pixel shift was a gimmick with Pentax and Olympus, but now that Sony has it, it is the best feature available....
I love my K-1.
Ok, that was a pretty well-balanced review. Thank you Kai.
The vibrator caught me off guard lol Kai, your humor strikes me in the absolute perfect place. keep it up. I've learned a lot about photography in general from you.
Yes, Finally another Kai Video. I anticipate Saturdays more than I do Game of Thrones....
As a long time Pentax-shooter I'll be in the market for their current full frame product as soon as I find the extra money.
Damn son Kai is an OG!! Rocking evisu jeans with the stone island jacket!! quality brands right there. And im very picky with the brands that I actually support
holy shit, when the camera dropped :O.....my heart sank lol
If You combine the fix dioptre correction lenses and adjustable element +1/-2.5 You do not need to wear glasses so can take advantage of the viewfinder and not rely on Your glasses so screen being on is no problem.
Please bring Kinky (the HK model) back to DRTV videos in HK, please.
She was just some kind of part time model... You could hire her too if u r shooting in HK~
Why are all digital rev subscribers weirdly attached to all of the women that appear?
roachman becoz we r men? :p
+Li ONGI there's a site made for watching Chinese models and it ain't youtube dude
roachman Actually I am living in Hong Kong lol and I can't find Kinky is horny for me. Cheers!
Putting up a tripod to reduce vibrations then putting it in the sea where it will pick up every single vibration the sea has to offer! Priceless :)
thanks for the review. As a Pentax long time user i have been waiting for this camera for a long time. K-1 offers the best price for a full frame camera on the market right now.

would k1 perform good in portraits??
Nether know what to expect in your reviews lol keep up the great work:)

Well, then you are wrong. I get my info straight from Ricoh/Pentax. And it is Sony sensor.
wait... since when is 36 megapixels not enough? 90% of photographers will probably never print anything over 20 x 30 anyway
Honestly, that LED at the front for changing lenses in the dark is brilliant. But no sensor by the eyepiece to turn off the LCD? So much for night shooting, lol.

Good spot! :)
Pressing 2 times on Info ...then 2 times on the right, then OK. Do you have a shorter path ?
4 button presses for something that should be automatic? Every single time?
KAI´s BACK!!!!
Great review, thanks. Would you please review the Billingham rucksack and the other rucksack they recently released please.

Kai is back :D
Kai is back~~~ YEAH~~~
Well, I actually got quite tempted to buy one.
Currently working on my own review of this camera, It's pretty good but i wish it had some evf overlay for peaking and knowing what mode the top right dials are in. It took me quite some time to figure out how to use an ovf after using mirrorless for the last 5 years..
Top tip to use an optical viewfinder: Look through it.
I came here just to rewatch the video just to get a better look at that Bellingham bag 😍! There are pretty much no reviews on it that I can find
Would have liked to see some Astro-tracer shots, but it looked like it was too cloudy for that.
That camera dropping with the tripod almost made me had a heart attack.
Hong Kong, please.
kai is back
The 'beer can' added to the landscape was brilliantly funny! Great review and I was really looking forward to this one.
hey kai! try having a review of vintage lenses too! :) thanks
my heart instantly brok when the camera drop
I always have to check first if Kai is hosting the show. Haha
Will you guys' be doing a hands-on review of the Pentax K70? If so, please compare it to the Canon 70D in the real world video department (color depth, low light performance, and autofocusing). I'm really torn between which one I should buy.
why you take shots of didlo and compaire shots in hi res.
can u guys do a review on nikon DX lens 17-80mm f2.8-4
tnx
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced 300mm lens for my Canon EOS 1200d? Thank in advance.
Lets wait for the 6DMKII

+Benjamin Kim agree, these differences are all in the same ballpark and irrelevant if you jump to HSS
Do you know what backpack it is? Name of brand?
Was that a Pentax camera strap or Nikon?
Godammit watching him dropping the camera gives me anxiety, Parkinson, PTSD and heart attacks. Good review tho
Then he switched to Pentax. Love my K-5 and my K-1.
Dildontax or Pentadildo?
Пентахуй 😹🐝👹
FING EXCELLENT
I think they might want to add a wooden handle.
Pretty neat been curious about that camera.
Did kai get banned from HK ? Why whould anyone wan't to be in the UK instead of HK
Because it's cleaner and not so hot.
its just better IMO, been to both :)
aren't the differences in tones and color reproduction on the Sony due to auto white balance?
Kai effect !! DR Tv is back :D
you do know the limiteds aren't weather sealed don't you?
and acr can't develop pixel shift properly. Need to use the DCU 5 software coming with the camera for now.
That's why he tested weather-sealing without lens.
What bag did Kai have? Where could i find it? Its really nice
use the duck tape to tape off the openings?
Would link to know who is the model which appear at 8:11. I guess is available in HK?
hey! I was wondering what you would suggest for my first DSLR camera. it needs to be fairly cheap and you should be able to remove/add the lens?
So you're not that impressed with the K-1? What would you recommend? This or the Nikon D810?
D810 probably.
Well, K-1 has a newer and better version of that 36mpx sensor..and offers more features for a lower price. Cant see why D810 would go over this one.
Kenneth Sporsheim
I'm thinking more about the lenses. Nikon has a wider selection of lenses and Tamron and Sigma don't really do many Pentax mounts. So you are very limited with lenses.
How many lenses do you need ? I would screw on my 43 Ltd. on a K1, and that's it. Done.
I dont miss any lenses..I have 11 of them..cant use them all at once :)
DigitalRedTV is crazy!

Tom Ohle That would have been nice :) Or NX1 Mark II ;)
I agree - the NX1 to this day is one of the best APS-C cameras around. It's a tragedy that Samsung pulled out of the camera market the way they did.
"Fire in the hole!" cracked me up. 😂
Hi, I was wondering if you can do a review shooting/record with the Nikon D800 and not the Canon?
Just to see if the videographer can make the D800 shine like Canon on video why you doing your reviews.
Our do you think your Videographer Lout can't do it?
Challenge!!!
can you guys bring lok to the uk to work with him
Yes and increase Britain's per-capita dork quota.
why he always breaks camera and other stuff
how do you locate models in hk? what agency do yall use? I am living in Shenzhen and about to start looking for models here and in hk so I can practice my portraiture.
i want the camera at 1:27 for use at kid's birthday parties

What camera do they use to film this??
The sumo suit schtick didn’t work. Still love the Pentax history review....
hello DigitalRev and camera geeks, I have a crucial question to ask...
I have a canon 6D with, 24-105mm, 8-15mm, 70-200mm f4, 50mm f1.4, and a few extra accessories.
I want to take a more serious path in photography and thinking about turning to medium format film photography. ps- I shoot landscape and studio portraits and a little bit of street photography and video work.
Pentax should release new mirrorless ILC, be it APS-C or FF.
#MakeDRTVGr8Again
I almost tried to grab the cam when the tripod was about to fall, and I was like...... NOOOOOOOO!
