For all the slagging of the award winning cinematographer, Jordan you absolutely rocked this video. Fantastic camera work! BTW on the focus point moving comlaint... no biggie. Pentax lets you change that. To enable: 1. Mount a lens and press Menu. 2. Go to Custom 3 menu 3. select ''Change AF point button options' 4. Select 'Type 2' for "Press AF point change button to set the desired shooting settings marked on 4-way controller" Now your 4-way controller will by default move the focus point around. easy :)
I'm a Canon user for twenty years but I'd move to Pentax without question for the K-1. The doubts I had about lens availability seem unfounded, and I'm sure third-party lens manufacturers will be issuing a lot more if this camera becomes even half as popular as expected. Cheaper than quite a number of aps-c cameras, at that price point it has to be one of the best deals in photography today. Thanks TCSTV.
I appreciate greatly the full disclosure segment in the beginning. It really shows how direct you guys are in keeping your integrity as product reviewers. Thank you PS: Hope everything in your area of Canada is doing ok.
I actually just jumped from Nikon to this K1. I had a D300 and had been using it for years, and when the thought of full frame came up I was just going to get the D750 and call it done. Then I heard about this camera and it all changed. what really won me over (among other things) was the grip and the in body stabilization. as far as the grip and the body design goes, it just has some sort of Zen to it. it feels like a well designed machine with character where as the Nikon feels (note: feels not is) uninspired and lifeless. I don't know how else to describe it. and that in body stabilization is a godsend. I have been able to get usable shots at 1 full second. not tack sharp, but completely usable. this massive buffer zone will help me keep the ISO down at times when I would have to ramp it up on other cameras and that alone is worth its weight in gold. absolutely love this camera and glad I bought it.
+mipmipmipmipmip I really don't know how else to describe it though. there is something to be said as to how a camera feels in your hands. how it s ergonomics are set up and how it just fits a person. it's completely subjective, but damn does the ergonomics really work well for this camera. and you hit the nail on the head. I wasn't super invested in Nikon, and would have to buy a bunch of new lenses anyways. so this happened to give me a lot more bang for the buck.
Hi! Does the Pentax K-1 camera suffer from a transition to Magenta in color rendering? And if so, how do you fight Magenta? Magenta is very clearly visible on some objects: brown in reality the earth, brown in reality the wool - in the photo with Pentax K-1 get purple. How do you deal with this? And Yes, I also own a Nikon D300 camera:) And I saw the Pentax K-1 camera, too. But I was confused by the obvious Magenta in some of the pictures.

Pentax put a lot of thought into their cameras, especially their higher end models. They see from the perspective of a photographer, which is why their cameras have the best ergonomics.
I bought a K-1 mark two, and I fell in love with it. I thought I would have problems with all the buttons and dials on it but no problem love this camera.
Now that you got the K-1 review out of the way, when can we expect a review of the fire wire grilling skewers? We really want to know if they're everything they're hyped up to be. Nice video by the way . . . :)
I've waited patiently for TCSTV review of the K-1, but it was worth the wait. Most convincing were the photos you two guys took, these speak volumes, not least because I too enjoy landscape photography. I have always found TCSTV reviews to be insightful and appreciative about Pentax cameras, but at the same time completely impartial - this is no exception. Thanks for putting this together guys - the K-1 is now on my shopping list. Loved the pre review warning, but it seems to me that Pentaxians are only upset when reviews are not sufficiently well informed or exacting. You did good research and criticisms were justified as indeed was the general positive tenor of the review which I found informative and helpful. Well done guys!
Just wanted to give a thanks to you guys. Ordered my K-1 from you earlier this week, only took 2 days to arrive (Ontario). So far loving the camera. Thanks for the work you guy's and your staff at the store are so friendly and helpful.
I think you make THE BEST review video online! It's really helpful when you can't get your hands on before hand to watch and learn from you. Seems honest and trustworthy!!! Keep up the good work!
I just switched from Pentax k5iis to Sony A7ii 6 months ago. I really miss that brand and feel so excited about the new K1. The camera body is no doubt extraordinary but I think Pentax still has a long way to go on releasing more modern ff lenses. I'm looking forward to the new ultra-wide * lens from geniune Pentax design, instead of the tamron 15-30 f2.8. And I'll definitely to switch back to Pentax once their modern ff lenses line up is complete.
Well done ! As a zealous pentaxian speaking it's the best video about Pentax gear for a long time ! You are trully impartial and you don't juge K-1 from a Canon or Nikon point of view! It's very pleasent and and it's a relief, thank you very muchos ... from a french pentaxian ^^
I was a Nikon user, chose the pentax k3 when it came out in 2014. Best decision ever. I was shooting a Nikon D7000 prior, and it just didn't "feel" right - the ergonomics were all off. The pentax k-3 however felt so good in the hand. It was like an extension of my body. It was inexpensive compared to its competitor's comparable cameras, had no anti-aliasing filter, produced great images, was sturdy and rugged (and weather sealed), and had a great choice of lenses. I decided to go with the 70-200 f/2.8 sigma and a sigma art lens. My brother shoots professionally with a d810 and he was surprised at how great the Pentax felt. Definately go with Pentax if you want reliable, inexpensive, and good images. I would suggest waiting a few months to buy any newly released Pentax bodies, as the prices usually drop quickly within 6-10 months.
Great review guys. I've been a Pentax fanboy for years and find your reviews honest and truthful with humor. This is an excellent review of a very worthy ff camera.
WTH, Pentax is giving you presents and loaning you cameras?! I've been on their waiting list for 2 years!! They told me they'd loan me a K-1 in June, but maybe later... Is it because I say "prah-cessing" instead of "pro-cessing"? That's probably it. Great, thorough review, and thanks, Jordan, for the tip on processing Pixel Shift mode photos!
www.flickr.com/photos/muzzlehatch/27072943041/in/photolist-HfkUL2 Can't wait for your K-1 review also! Looks like you guys are in a great area for testing.
Thanks you guys for this review... proud that a Canadian store is taking Pentax gear that seriously... Hope that my local stores will follow. They seems to neglect Pentax for years.
If Pentax can produce a camera with the apparent quality of the K-1 at this price, it makes you wonder why the similar models from Canon, Nikon and Sony are so overpriced? Thanks to Pentax for bringing more competition to the full frame battleground! You can buy the K-1 and a 24-70mm f2.8 for about the same price as a Sony a7r ii body only. Sounds like a good value to me!
Pentax are less expensive because they spend hardly any money on advertising. It is also why a lot of people these days have never even heard of Pentax.
lol, for all the disclaimer and disclosures stacked at the beginning of this video, there was nothing really negative said about it. Better dynamic range/iso/cleaner output than a D810? nice. D500 for sports, mirrorless for video/portability, K1 for everything else... this could be hard on the wallet.
I really enjoyed this video. Okay...I'm jumping ship and diving in! I was a Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fuji and Leica guy. I had multiple systems and invested on equipment for almost 25 years. I was searching to expand the shooting envelope in each systems and I think Pentax answered it with this camera...finally!!! I held and tried it with the 77mm f/1.8 for almost half an hour at Photocon LA this past May. I was shooting at ISO 100 at f/3.5 and 1/8th of a second. Holy $hit!!! I was blown how sharp the image, detail and microcontrast. I almost scooped up Nikon's D810 but the K1's technology, capabilities and price are significantly untouchable. This camera is legit!!! Can't wait to get mine!!!
Just watched a review of the K-1 on DRTV and it was shameful. THIS review....this is how reviews should be done......honest, respectful of the gear and no attempts at trying to be overly cute.....professional in other words
You can't compare DRTV to this channel or to Northrup's channel (or other channels like photouniverse which i love). It's a different thing.. DRTV is fun, strange stuff, weird comparisons, .. they are guys that make a channel for guys.. but they are so original that an amateur can get inspired, or can take the photo "issue" like a game, and not like a work.. (and i'm sorry for all these pro and great photographers, but it is what photography should be). It's like compare Mission Impossible with.. i don't know.. a Hitchcock film. My opinion, obviously..
Haha funny thing, I did the same thing. I don't mind some jokes in a video, but that channel just reminds me too much of modern top gear stuff which is more insulting on intelligence than funny, just a little too far for MY particular tastes. Great review, I'm curious to try out the K1, owned and loved the K3, and my girlfriend still has her K5. Glad I gave Pentax cameras a go.
Just a quick note to the comment about AF point selection through the 4way controller: K-1 can be customised through menu so that AF point selection is the prime function of 4way controller and the other functions are activated only upon the button. I have done just that.
You guys, amazing video! Thanks for the review - I loved the intro disclaimer and there was some really lovely cinematography and demonstrations of high production value for this video review thrown in, on top of the great photographs and solid reviewing. Really awesome work - I loved it. P.S. Now I really want a K1 and I really don't *need* a K1, so - thanks for that.
Thanks for another awesome review. I`m surprised you didn`t make more of a deal of the K-1`s in-body image stabilization. This, for me, is epic. There is also a 15-30mm F2.8 lens, btw.
It's an amazing feature and I suppose we don't go to much in to detail only because it's.been a staple feature of there brand for so long now. It really is an awesome achievement, especially at the price point. Chris@TCSTV
Great review guys. Being a Pentaxian I always appreciate a well balanced review, bring out those negatives, all cameras have a few. I have the K-3 and the K-30 now and will probably upgrade to full-frame in the future. Keep up the great work. Oh btw, I've been to Banff three times, keep shooting there!!
I've got one, and this is a fair review. I don't agree that you must explore every menu depth to get full use - I don't use a fraction of its functions for what I do. That would go for any brand, they all have function over-kill. I'm told the K-1 video isn't so good but IDK, I've never even tried it, I bought it for stills.
Thanks for this review! I am an ex-pentaxian who went for M43 a little while back. Pentax's lack of a good full frame and terrible mirrorless outings are what drove me to the switch. Now, however, I'm very seriously considering getting the K-1 for those times when I want a full-frame. Plus, I still have some legacy Pentax glass that I've been adapting to M43.
+OneHarp Did you actually *try* Pentax's mirrorless? I have, and I love it. It's my favorite camera to use, even if it is not the highest performing. It's just the most fun to shoot with. (beating out my Nikon FF system, Panasonic FZ1000, and Canon G9X)
Thanks for the thorough review TCSTV team. As always I enjoyed the humour. I thought Nick added some good counterpoints with his 645Z experience. Nice to see you using the FA Limited's too.
Thoroughly enjoyable review! Thanks, guys. EDit: it's 2021 and I've had the K-1 for 4 years. As a landscape and macro camera it's still hard to beat. It's great in the studio for portraits too, especially with the 77 mm Limited, though it has a tendency to sometimes focus on something other than the subject's eye. The new 85 mm f1.4 is much better in this respect, and is a tad sharper, but when the 77 nails it... oh baby! I am now awaiting delivery of the K-3 III, but the K-1 will not be consigned to the cupboard. It's still that good.
As a former Pentaxian I always still keep my eye on what Pentax are doing. Perhaps its an Aussie thing, always rooting for the underdog. Thanks guys for a fantastic video; hopefully it will go some way towards getting more Pentaxs in shooters hands.
+Mr Lurch I'm much the same. Although, I have to say that I'm disappointed with the lens pricing here in Aus. It seems like the prices for the new lenses are jacked-up more than the K-1 price. It is still tempting though. Maybe I'll pick it up when I'm in Canada next year...much more reasonable pricing there.
The disclaimer alone should help earn this video a few thousand likes. Also, Fire Wire skewers? Way to splash out with the freebies, Ricoh. (Full disclosure: I thought the skewers required a Firewire connection to work.)
This camera's review should be remade in order to make it more objective and unbiased, with Nicholas only (I hope I heard the host's name right). It seems Nick Devlin, the guest photographer, created some peer pressure to not criticize the model too much, which is what our host didn't exactly aim for. For example, Nick was quick to refute the observation about the camera's heavy weight at 15:45, and some people might want to take that into account without having to be sport photographers since weight is also a matter of taste I suppose.
Anyone know the name of the piano song when they were showing the shots from the K-1, by Chris and Nick, near the start of the video? It's form 2:24 to 3:12
zeebazu I didn't say there were few complaints. I said there were few negative reviews. There is a difference, because you can always come up with some complaints for products that in every other way are well-regarded. For example, the A7rII is often called the best mirrorless camera on the market. But you can also complain about its user interface. Yet that doesn't make its overall review a bad one.
Speaking of negative reviews I haven't seen a negative review for pentax cameras either since almost all their models have great feature set and excellent build for their price.
zeebazu All I'm disagreeing with you about is that you said that this disclaimer is really necessary for Sony reviews. And I was disputing that...and you really didn't disagree with me at all. This camera looks to be a fine camera, and in fact, in another comment in this same video, I said as much. Now, if you want to see a video where the disclaimer is warranted, then look up The Camera Store TV's "Pentax K-01" review.
Great review, thanks ! On the APS-C models,, you can hit the OK button to hide the histogram. Then click Info again to bring it back up. That might be a lot quicker than to switch between all the different levels of information on the info screen.
Chris, your review is better than Tony's. I feel it's unbiased and more complete (you considered the older lenses and showed the photos you got in different situations).
Very nice review. This pentax really does look very interesting. If they can quickly put out accessories, this might become a good contender to other FF DSLRs.
Thank you for another great review and video. The thing is I get used to an electronic viewfinder. I can not go back from the Sony’s. I love using ‘zebras’ on landscape photography. It seems to be a great camera but I think the Sony A7Rii is best for my kind of photography. Thank you guys and cheers from Portugal.
looks ace - with so many crucial gaps recently filled in the lens department, and with the release of this awesome FF, i think many will convert to Pentax.
Great review, finally, had no doubt, you guys know how to do it right. The images from this camera are gorgeous. Sony fans are worse than Pentax fans when it come to negative criticism.
I must say that as a current Fuji X-T1 user, I'm mighty tempted by this K-1. I never really even considered Pentax gear in the past for all the negative feedback I was hearing around the webs but then I saw the 24-70 vid and was completely taken aback by how nice the colour rendition tuned out by comparison. It's kinda funny though as I've been thinking that if I ever went full-frame I'd likely get a D750 and learn the Nikon way but these amazing stills both of you guys took proves that the K-1 is a must better suited landscape camera, with a slight edge in pixel count for what that's worth. But yeah, I must preferred the colours and tonal balance from these samples over the D750s (and yes I realise a lot of this can be changed/corrected in lightroom). Anyways thanks for the vid guys always appreciated from a guy in Sydney, Australia :)
Thanks much for an informative, honest and common sense review of the K1. You give Pentax a glimmer of hope of competing with the Goliaths of the industry. Cheers, dave
i love this video. I really like the edited inserts of camera and lens details while you two speak. It reminds me of the scene in taxi driver when Easy Andy the gun salesman explains all the different pistols. Nice. Also, im gonna buy this camera
I am seriously considering buying this camera and into the system. I'd be switching from Nikon that I've been using for over 14 years, and currently using a D700, which is just about at the end of it's lifetime for my mostly amateur use. For the longest time I've assumed that I would upgrade to the D810 but honestly the K-1 looks like a much better camera overall. The one thing that the D810 has that is relevant for me is the fact that it has a native ISO of 64, which can be pushed down the 32 which is amazing for long exposure photography. But that's it really, and dollar for dollar this camera can't be beat in the Full Frame SLR market. Great review as always, you guys are by far the best camera reviewers on youtube.
+joezuu Pentax DSLRs can do lower ISO too via in-camera composite multi-exposure (which results in a single RAW file), so much so that you can leave you ND filters at home. Check this out: www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/pentax-k3-ii/pentax-k3-ii-field-test-part-ii.htm (scroll down to Intermission).
I've always wanted to try/have a Pentax, but if you live outside the "major countries" it's very hard to get hold at one and then support it with lenses accessories etc
I'm a non-Pentax user who is very interested in this camera over a D750. Great first look, thanks!. Sad part for me is trying to find a local store that stocks it so I can get my hands on one, not to mention a few lenses to try out.
+Kenneth J. O'Riordan I have a D750 myself and love it, however the K1 offers substantial benefits in certain areas and at a similar price point. The D750 will shoot slightly faster, and has usable video, but the K1 has better image quality across the board, is more rugged, and is a more stable shooting platform. In the field the K1 shines as a landscape camera and is worth looking at over a D750 carefully. Chris @ TCSTV
At that price, it seems like a good option for crop body owners who haven't bought any full frame glass yet anyway. As long as they aren't needing a high number of shots per second or video.
I almost got the k-1 but went with the panasonic g7 instead (love the g7). The warning at the beginning of this video is kinda funny. I feel like every camera brand has pros and cons. It's no reason to get mad.
Hmmm. To jump ship from nikon to pentex or not. It would be an easy answer if I don't own tons of nikon glass. New and Classics AIS. My main question would be. Is there enough support for creative lighting systems? TTL flashes? Wireless strobe trigger support?
+D Ch Briefly and to the point: Stay with Nikon. (Saying as a Pentax owner). You won't get better TTL flash then what Nikon offers. Nowhere. If that's what matters to your photography there's no comparison elsewhere. Especially if you are invested in lenses. Switching system only really matters if what you get will do a lot for your photography; but I'd guess you wouldn't gain much and lose some here. Bit longer answer: Just as with video, Pentax cameras can do TTL flash but it's not much to write home about, especially in comparison to Nikon. The current flagship Pentax flashes are weather sealed, too, which is cool, but don't have wireless triggers built in. Can use them in Slave mode, or use third party wireless triggers. I'd say Godox third party flashes (rumours there'll be a Pentax TTL compatible version of their wireless trigger eventually - but that's really just a rumour) are more interesting than what Pentax themselves offer. What Pentax does is build rugged good quality camera bodies, that are durable and that a lot of thought went in - but that are behind in the AF / Flash / Speed aspect. I.e. always a step or two behind the bleeding edge of the technology curve, but pulling more out of that slightly older technology than others do, in comparison.
+D Ch creativity is opposite to ttl...creativity means full control of light, u can easily buy manual flashes and radio command. also pttl is good enough for automatic when u need. nikon is better but you can easily use any brand today for flash photography.
+Jonatha Borzicchi I don't know what you are referring to when you said creativity is opposite to pttl. Nikon has a Creative lighting system (CLS) where I can remotely adjust flash output in different groups of flashes with my camera without having to walk up to each individual flash and adjust it there. This function works in full manual or flash compensation in TTL mode. Does pentex have this function? Hearing from other pentex user. These functions are quite limited and I don't believe the flexibility of the aftermarket support is readily available.
+Christof Häberle Thank you for the heads up. I'll probably stick with Nikon. I use wireless triggers and Nikon's CLS alot and it will be a deal breaker for me if Pentex is limited in that regards.
I love the landscape, the nature and the timelapses, I come from canon with a 70D, before, I had a canon 1100D, and before some other litle cameras, I always wanted to go to the full frame world with the 6D canon, but I wanted to wait for the new model, so I expected a lot of time for the new Canon 6D mark2, but I was quite disappointed for the price it has and what they offer, and one day I discovered the Pentax K1 and I fell in love with it all, because for the same price it gives a lot more in everything, more quality, more ISO, more shooting speed, dual SD slot, more than 300,000 shots of useful life, stabilized from the sensor, technologies, like astro tracer, or pixel shift, center horizon with the sensor, it is simply a tank of how robust it is, if one day I left it at night during a timelapse and it rained I would worry very little, with the good seal it has Thank you very much for the video, thanks to him and other reviews, they have made me change to pentax, and I'm in love
If you guys didn't have polar bear maulings every 5 minutes, I'd love to move to Canada - the opening disclaimer is everything I love about Canada in one sweetly smart-ass joke.
Cheers for the tip about enabling the histogram in image review Chris, that's genius. Works just the same on my K-01 (which is a beast of a camera if you've got vintage Pentax glass). :-)
Thanks for the wonderful review, loved it! It's definitely an honest one, like all your other reviews. There are so few surprises with a Pentax: excellent (still) image quality, solid build and handling was guaranteed even before its release and (unfortunately) so probably was the sucky continuous shooting and video capabilities. Pentax has always managed to bring out the best in any sensor (the legendary K5) and this is no exception. And so, perhaps the fact that it performs 0.5-1 stop better than the D810 was not a surprise either. Add to that the excellent in-built image stabilization, we have a beast in a FF camera and esp. at this price point. Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to, I'm not able to invest in one right now. I'm happy with my K-3 at the moment. Will perhaps wait for another 6-12 months and hope for the price to come down (as has been the case with most Pentax flagships in the past). BTW, nice humour in the initial disclaimer! --- A happy Zentaxian.
After the disclaimer I was expecting a critical review but it was more like watching a 18 min Pentax advertisement.. This either means that TCSTV's good words are easily bought *or* that this camera is actually really *really* good.
+fsociety Pentax users are pretty defensive of their brand but if we dislike something we say it. The disclaimer is just a bit of fun but in truth we couldn't find anything to really dislike about the K1. Its an amazing camera overall with stunning image quality and ruggedness. I want one now as I usually do after reviewing Pentax SLRS. My only real complaint about Pentax cameras is that they can seem intimidating to new users due to the sheer amount of customization and features thrown in. Once you get past the learning curve they usually excel. Chris @ TCSTV
Chris could you please comment more about Pentax K-1 auto-focus & Live -View abilities? for instance- Does it recognizes faces like Nikon d750 & D810 ? what about speed and accuracy? Thanks!
+Photo2015 Liveview was good - I used it consistently with the ND filters. AF was totally up to the task. Just not super-fast in track, say the way a 1Dx2 or a D5 would be.
For all the slagging of the award winning cinematographer, Jordan you absolutely rocked this video. Fantastic camera work!
BTW on the focus point moving comlaint... no biggie. Pentax lets you change that.
To enable:
1. Mount a lens and press Menu.
2. Go to Custom 3 menu
3. select ''Change AF point button options'
4. Select 'Type 2' for "Press AF point change button to set the desired shooting settings marked on 4-way controller"
Now your 4-way controller will by default move the focus point around. easy :)
+Tom Ohle Thanks for the tip! Nick will be grateful!

Also editing the hell out of raw is not "Dynamic range" what a freaking commercialistic moron. I could do that with an old Nikon D40.
I'm a Canon user for twenty years but I'd move to Pentax without question for the K-1.
Thanks for giving the Pentax K-1 review the respect it deserves, nice job.
As a Pentaxian, I loved the disclaimer. So true :D
+AGH331 That's why we made it! We knew the Pentaxians out there would see the humour in it!

will u do one more
limit test video on here?
Bruce, Pentaxian HK
Great, thorough review, and thanks, Jordan, for the tip on processing Pixel Shift mode photos!
www.flickr.com/photos/muzzlehatch/27072943041/in/photolist-HfkUL2
Can't wait for your K-1 review also! Looks like you guys are in a great area for testing.
I hope you'll get your review loaner soon. I hope Chelsea will appear both behind and in front of the K-1. It would be a shame if she didn't! :)
hey Tony... i perfer you reviews.. i was just hanging around here, didn't watch the vid
Since you're already hanging out here, might as well watch our K-1 video until the Northrups publish theirs, right?
Jordan @ TCSTV
Sincerely you guys, Tony and the mentor are the best in UA-cam..... I learnt a lot from you guys...
Thanks you guys for this review... proud that a Canadian store is taking Pentax gear that seriously... Hope that my local stores will follow. They seems to neglect Pentax for years.
Great pics! So sharp!
congratulations to 200.000 subscribers
If Pentax can produce a camera with the apparent quality of the K-1 at this price, it makes you wonder why the similar models from Canon, Nikon and Sony are so overpriced? Thanks to Pentax for bringing more competition to the full frame battleground!
You can buy the K-1 and a 24-70mm f2.8 for about the same price as a Sony a7r ii body only. Sounds like a good value to me!
oh and pentax has always been good value.
8:30 Fuji is actually moving to joysticks for AF points, on the XPro2/XT2 changing the AF point is extremely quick
Fresh cup of coffee and a new episode of TCSTV, lovely stuff!
Terry Wyse i left drtv after watching that crap review.
Excellent review! I was particularly impressed with the quality of the K-1 macro shots.
+Mr Lurch Yup.
Interestingly, CRK is out of K-1s right now. Pre-orders cleaned 'em out.
Awesome. Clem must be stoked. In saying that tho; I wonder how many/few they actually brought in to begin with.
+Mr Lurch
I'm much the same. Although, I have to say that I'm disappointed with the lens pricing here in Aus. It seems like the prices for the new lenses are jacked-up more than the K-1 price. It is still tempting though. Maybe I'll pick it up when I'm in Canada next year...much more reasonable pricing there.
Wow! Just wow! Pics are unbelievable.
Great full review, this should bring many new users to appreciate Pentax, which makes great products for a great value.
Does anyone else want to see those stainless steel skewers in action?
It's form 2:24 to 3:12
Another great review. Interesting camera. Big thumbs up for the great audio on this video too.
Pentax users always seem to be a cool, laid-back bunch. The disclaimer is really necessary for Sony reviews.
Not really, because it's hard to find a negative Sony review.
sony overheat issues and user interface complains are all over the web.
zeebazu I didn't say there were few complaints.
Loved the review. As a Pentaxian, thanks so much for the unbiased opinion!
"Alright you gorgeous hunk of a man, let's do it" ... "Is there somebody behind me that's gorgeous? I~~" *starts running HAHAHAHAH
Did anybody else notice the great focus pull @2:27 ?
Thank you for another great review and video. The thing is I get used to an electronic viewfinder. I can not go back from the Sony’s. I love using ‘zebras’ on landscape photography. It seems to be a great camera but I think the Sony A7Rii is best for my kind of photography. Thank you guys and cheers from Portugal.
I got my first Pentax 4 months ago (K-3) and I haven't looked back since. Next stop k-1.
thankyou both for the video. I'm already in love with the camera although I don't think i could ever afford one but you can never know.
looks ace - with so many crucial gaps recently filled in the lens department, and with the release of this awesome FF, i think many will convert to Pentax.
Different script from the "usual" - playful Chris was fun. Great filmmaking and editing, Jordan!
Damn i love the warning at the start, couldn't stop chuckling to myself..great work guys :)
Great review, finally, had no doubt, you guys know how to do it right.
The images from this camera are gorgeous.
Sony fans are worse than Pentax fans when it come to negative criticism.
I enjoyed the rapport with Nick. I'd love to see him in more videos.
Nice video and I liked the old dude! Bring him back sometime. Regards from Sweden
18:00 - The Disclaimer at the beginning did not warn us of the EnviroPorn at the end.
+Christopher Woelfl negative feedback? glad i missed that. i love my pentax camera(k-5) and my pentax mf lens collection. such a good deal!
Does Chris realise he takes better photos with pentax then nikon? Those shots at the start were amazing!
I'm sure that's related to the camera manufacturer and everything
+Luke Well, yes. Kinda. You get more inspired with tools you love using ;)
Chris, you had some really beautiful shots in this video.
Nice video. That thing has some features my D750's jealous of!
I couldn't care less for these high-end cameras but I love the reviews anyway, they are funny AF! (not autofocus)
Chris good to see you getting under the skin of Pentax and appreciating them for what they really are.
Awesome images Chris, definitely your reviews are always unbiased love to hear your words on any product you review ☺😊 Thanks
Been waiting for this for a long time from you guys! Would love to see a 70-200 comparison video like you did of the 24-70.
Really excellent review -- especially helpful information on the pixel shift functionality.
I've always wanted to try/have a Pentax, but if you live outside the "major countries" it's very hard to get hold at one and then support it with lenses accessories etc
I wish Pentax would have a follow up on the K-01 for video shooting .... :(
yall should put a portfolio of the test shots in the description!
Thank you for this video. The K1 (I or II) is on my short list as I finally plan on entering the full frame world.
I'm a long time Pentax user and this is a great video
Awesome review! I love Pentax!!!!
Excellent review, lovely pictures. Very interested in this camera.
Great review guys, thanks for sharing it.
cheers
tony
7:19 why is there even an OFF button for shake reduction? Is it logical to make it off ever? I do not understand.
Looks great. I started with a K1000 screw mount and am glad Pentax is still innovating.
@Steven - the K1000 is PK bayonet mount, not M42 screw.
@@paulmdt1 mine had threads. Maybe I remember wrong.
Nice review. I just wish they had gone with an articulated screen for the k1 that is articulated like the one on the k-s2.
+D Ch Briefly and to the point:
Stay with Nikon.
Bit longer answer:
Just as with video, Pentax cameras can do TTL flash but it's not much to write home about, especially in comparison to Nikon.
+Jonatha Borzicchi
I don't know what you are referring to when you said creativity is opposite to pttl.
+Christof Häberle
Thank you for the heads up. I'll probably stick with Nikon. I use wireless triggers and Nikon's CLS alot and it will be a deal breaker for me if Pentex is limited in that regards.
At 8:30, Custom Menu 20 Change AF Point Button :)
256th! Love the warning guys! lawlz
What's the best adventure camera between this and the Nikon d810?
I really love the Pentax but want to buy the better camera for my style.
I love the landscape, the nature and the timelapses, I come from canon with a 70D,
before, I had a canon 1100D, and before some other litle cameras, I always wanted to go to the full frame world with the 6D canon, but I wanted to wait for the new model, so I
expected a lot of time for the new Canon 6D mark2, but I was quite
disappointed for the price it has and what they offer, and one day I
discovered the Pentax K1 and I fell in love with it all, because for the
same price it gives a lot more in everything,
more quality, more ISO, more shooting speed, dual SD slot,
more than 300,000 shots of useful life, stabilized from the sensor,
technologies, like astro tracer, or pixel shift, center horizon with the sensor, it is simply a tank of how robust it is, if one day I left it at night during a timelapse and it rained I would worry very little, with the good seal it has
Thank you very much for the video, thanks to him and other reviews, they have made me change to pentax, and I'm in love
+kashisman That’s why we do it! Enjoy the K1, it’s a fantastic camera!
love your reviews, keep up the good work guys.
If you guys didn't have polar bear maulings every 5 minutes, I'd love to move to Canada - the opening disclaimer is everything I love about Canada in one sweetly smart-ass joke.
+Sean Tomlinson Yeah, those are the one downside.
Jordan @ TCSTV
+TheCameraStoreTV I lost another buddy overnight to a rabid arctic fox. #whenwillthecarnagestop
This either means that TCSTV's good words are easily bought *or* that this camera is actually really *really* good.
or that pentax users are very delicate...
I am extremely hungry now. It is true.
+chris What do you shoot?
Chris could you please comment more about Pentax K-1 auto-focus & Live -View abilities?
for instance- Does it recognizes faces like Nikon d750 & D810 ? what about speed and accuracy?
Thanks!
+Photo2015 Liveview was good - I used it consistently with the ND filters. AF was totally up to the task. Just not super-fast in track, say the way a 1Dx2 or a D5 would be.
+Nick Devlin Thanks for the info Nick!
the k1 is everything i want the sony a99 ii to be
