The camera market is simply rigged: Every review of a Pentax which I have seen was positive and mentions the great features (weather resistance, and all the cool stuff that is possible just because of the in-body stabilisator, to name a few), but when it comes to raw numbers, they always make sure that the bigger manufacturers keep a slightly better rating. The best explanation I have for this are the huge advertisements from Canon and Nikon you usually see on the pages surrounding the test... Don't get me wrong, many professional photographers may have good reasons stick to one of the big brands - but most customers simply are not informed well enough to choose the camera that would be the best for their needs: They never spend several ten thousand bucks for gear that might be superior, and just pay a hefty extra for stuff which has much lower quality than what the pros use; or they buy Canon, because their buddy said that this is the best brand (of course, it is also the only brand he knows...). Pentax isn't strictly superior, but if photographers would be better informed, the marketshare would be much higher than it is now.
I saw Mattias Burling review of this cam and said finally some good words. I honestly didn't expect Kai to do the same especially some time passed since it's came out. Always wandered what's wrong with people who dislike it. Lab tests showed BRUTAL image quality compared to high end APSc DSLRs. Got a Pentax K-5 a bit over a year ago as my first 'proper' camera, and it's been a blast to use. Pretty much only use M-series lenses with it. I love how flavorfully the older lenses render images, especially the 50mm F4 Macro with its pentagonal aperture; just something you don't see anymore. Hi again. Thanks for a bit of Pentax love. I mostly use my x100f because of its size and weight advantage over almost everything. But, when I want /need/anticipate a different focal length I go back to my K3 and Ltd lenses or longer DA* lens. Also when my x100 is back at Fuji Aust for repairs I have plenty of time to reaquaint myself with the K as the repair time for Fuji is between 2 and 4 weeks! Is that the same every where? Anyway, thanks again. If the new APS-C camera is significantly better than the K3 I may change up, but the K3 and KP and so good that I will most likely keep it for ages to come. Have you tried mounting the Pentax lens' on a fuji camera?
I've been a professional Pentax photographer for over 30 years. Great (if quirky at times) gear. I've been delighted the entire time, and so have my clients. I'm a lifer now.
I learnt photography on a spotmatic and a k1000 and my last film camera was an ME Super . All of my film cameras were either Pentax or , ironically , Ricoh (which shared the K mount . I will always have a soft spot for the brand , but I am too heavily invested in the Canon systems , APS-C and full frame to ever go back . The K1 mk2 is tempting though .

Been using Pentax since the SP500+ (1971), ES, LX, 6x7 and now K-3, K-1. I have tried several other cameras from 4"x5" and 6x6mm to 35mm including Toyo, Camera (both 4"x5"), Mamiya 6x7, Hasselblad's 6x6, Leica, Olympus, Canon, and Nikon 35mm, but prefer the Pentax as the best equipment for the money, love that all my many lenses work on the K3 and K1 (some require adapters) so I did not have to spend 1000s of dollars on new lenses when I upgraded from film to digital. In the digital I like that I can have two storage cards at the same time one in JIF and the other RAW, and that I can do full spectrum from full auto to manual.

16 years ago i purchased my first DSLR, a Pentax K100D Super, I went on to purchase the following: k10D, Kr Kp, K5 MKII, K3, all three models and a K1 MKII. With the newer bodies starting with the K5, i started adding event photography to the different subjects i photographed and from the age of 60 to 65 most of my photography work were events, Memorial day events, weddings, Baptisms, family photos, retirement and birthday parties, i even photographed a motorcycle club function. Once i started photographing the Memorial day event at the Correctional facility I worked at, i found that I really enjoyed this type of photography and took on any and all types of events, mainly used Pentax DSLR's as my main cameras the last years shooting events my main cameras i used were the K3 MKIII and K1 MKII a great combination and many of the lens that I used i could mont on both bodies.

Pats Pentax 67 comfortingly:"It's alright girl. I'll always love you. I know what you are capable of."
Years ago I was working at Bletchley, Uk - the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and in their archive room was a Pentax Spotmatic and a load of black and white landscape stills - I said to the engineer in the room - they are fantastic photos, and he said - yeh, the cameras not bad. It left a lasting impression. I think Ricoh owns them now, and I just wonder how much enthusiasm they have for the brand. Great stills though. The Sony video was a bit shaky in places...
Dayum, after Mattias Burling's review here comes a second price hike
Got a Pentax K-5 a bit over a year ago as my first 'proper' camera, and it's been a blast to use. Pretty much only use M-series lenses with it. I love how flavorfully the older lenses render images, especially the 50mm F4 Macro with its pentagonal aperture; just something you don't see anymore.
So yeah, I agree full-heartedly with the message of this video. Use the camera that gets you to go out and take pictures!
I just bought a brand new K50 with the 18-55 wr lens for $180. I think it's a great camera for the price.
Kyle H I have a 10-20mm f4-5.6 from sigma if you’re interested. I switched to Fuji and it’s been collecting dust. I’d let it go for a fair deal to clear some space on my shelf
You two guys together are well working combo. Keep it.
And yes, PENTAX!
I've been a professional Pentax photographer for over 30 years. Great (if quirky at times) gear. I've been delighted the entire time, and so have my clients. I'm a lifer now.
Lok: ''Who actually even touched Pentax''
me a Pentax user since 2012: ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ BOI ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
edit: Pentax bois assemble
i own one since 2010 K20D ...picture qulity is outstanding
Me since begining '11
I began with a K-m back in 2017 and i don't regret a single bit!
I've used Pentax SLRs & DSLRs since 1979. I've never found a reason to change and I can still use any Pentax lens made since then on my K1.
me...since last century 90s...with Z5 and Z1... with k30 for 6 years
I learnt photography on a spotmatic and a k1000 and my last film camera was an ME Super . All of my film cameras were either Pentax or , ironically , Ricoh (which shared the K mount . I will always have a soft spot for the brand , but I am too heavily invested in the Canon systems , APS-C and full frame to ever go back . The K1 mk2 is tempting though .
Actually a cool guy from Sweden named Mattias Burling does review such cameras but you're right: Pentax is underrated and it's unfair! Great choice anyway and thanks for sharing!
Mattias is a class-act.
Pentax will always have s place in my heart. Took me years to let go of my lenses after I sold my last pentax body.

The most beautiful camera ever.
I'm so happy you're reviewing this
I love the old Pentax lens I actually use the old 60s / 70s Pentax-M and super Takumar's adapted to my Sony A7Riii

I have the same Spotmatic camera too and I love it. That's my main film camera. And it's fantastic. You should buy it
This was nostalgic for me, like the good 'ol days of DigitalRev! I got into photography while watching you guys back in 2011.
The boys are back!!?!
And so is Pentax?!!!!
Great to see the both of you:)
wow kai (barely) speaks cantonese at 5:38
Even I can speak more then him and I have been in HK for only a month.
@@andrewbow271 You've missed the point.
We know Kai can speak Cantonese. But he hasn't speak it in front of the camera for so so long. So many viewers would like to see it.
@@NicolasChanCSY He actually comes from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk UK (I think). His family must come from HK. I heard him count "1,2,3" in Mandarin/Cantonese/Korean (same).
@@jojosfotospc It is "1,2,3" in Cantonese. I know Cantonese.
Working at one of pentaxes biggest dealers I appreciate this!
omg, the boys are back
I am also switching to Pentax from Nikon, early this year. Also a YT channel called, "Cameraville", is exclusively Pentax. Lee also reviews Pentax vs other brands.
When I first saw the title, I though this was the video from 4 years ago. 😅😅😅
Looking forward to the next flagship DSLR from pentax. Hopefully in the coming months
hoping to see the new pentax announcement too. k3 mark iii?
This video reminds me of the good old days, Lok on the Camera, Kai on the streets of Hong Kong
48/5000
this episode was so marvellous.
when two laugh, makes the third smiled. i smiled most time of the show. it was fresh and unconventional. thanks.
by the way, i switch to kodak.
I started years ago with the Pentax MX and a Pentax 24 - 50 zoom - amazing gear for travel/street.
The only pentax I've touched is film 😂
My Spotmatic is always ready! :D
Kai and Lok, in Hong Kong, just walking around joking about camera, it's kinda a drug to me
Look at the SIZE of that Pentax logo
I'm a Fuji guy, going to a camera shop in Japan, grabbed almost every flagship model from every brand, and about build quality...nothing top the Pentax K-1
"I'm a professional tosser" - Kai W 2020. LOL
I just got the Pentax K1ii, now I'm going to have to get the KP, you're sending me to the poor house, I'll take pictures of it when I get there.
Oh shoot. That makes TWO PENTAX shooters in the world including me now 😂

Ahem.... +1
I have a Film Pentax 645 so +1
I know this an old video but I covet this camera.
"I will even have a bit of Pentax"
Canon, Nikon, which one gives you a...
I just switched from canon to Pentax...
I clicked this faster than I did when Fro betrayed Nikon for Sony. Because I just didn’t care. But this. I need this.
Thanks for the Pentax love!
"How many people own a Pentax, let alone touched one..." I suspect almost every viewer over 40 owned a Pentax at some point in their lives. And I have a sneaky suspicion a few of us still have it stuffed away in a draw somewhere 😁
Not me Olympus till the 1980's then Nikon
Mine is on a shelf 😎
Though, I'm not 40 years of age yet 🤔
