When people tell me I’m lucky to be able to afford a plane, I usually tell them that getting the plane is not that hard.. “keeping”the plane is the hard part.
N53182 is 1981 172 owned by a guy in NM, he’s owned it for at least 18 years. Registration is still valid. N737UK is a 1977 172 owned by Alternate Air of Seattle, WA. They’ve owned it since 2019. Registration still valid.
I think alot of these are they cant comply with a AD . Ive heard alot of times theres real paperwork problems. I wanted to buy a piper colt but the owner had died the property had been sold the aircraft abandoned then the current property owner was selling it .....after sitting 23 years ........I pulled the records and the old dead owner still "owned" it ,and the FAA listed the old owner as the owner
@@Antibong There's nothing wrong with the plane unless they had issues the owner didn't want to pay for, or just that they couldn't make their payments. You can be perfect to others, and worthless to some
They’re not necessarily orphaned. But still owned. The owners just don’t have the ability or money to get them airworthy again and refuse to sell them. It’s baffling but very common.
the old Coronado airport closed a long time ago, Sandia Casino, Sandia Pueblo Tribe, bought the land and shuttered the airport, very disappointing. Consequently buy airport properties, they are extremely valuable and a lot of pressure from growing cities to close them.
@@trueairspeed130 I know that NM had a lot of people get "lost" during covid. Some died, others were discharged from the hospital to Beehive and Genesis homes, and the lucky few moved in with family.

Still a cesspool
I saw that tail number - 53182- sounded so familiar. Grabbed my log book, sure enough - Was my trainer back in 1985.
That’s cool
You outta see if you can buy her back!

Worth looking into
I did my flight training at KAEG. Saw a lot of these neglected birds there. Damn shame.
Sure is
This is something that is true every airport
I know, let's make these airplanes known, maybe someone can get through to the owners.
poor little 172. the only plane i ever flew
it is sad to see them like this.
@@trueairspeed130what’s wrong with them? I can’t come up with a reason somebody would abandon a plane unless it was damaged.
@@trueairspeed130 it almost sounded like you said "here at the illegal airport" =p ❤

I'll bet the cost of making it airworthy againe would cost to much ? outherwise i would think thay could sell the abandon aircraft ??
some people just can't let go or accept that they lose money, until they sell it doesn't feel like they lost.
Who is crazy enough to fly them?…I AM ✋😎
👍

very true
I have seen a lot as a paramotor pilot. I think it is just really hard and expensive to keep the FAA required maintenance on some older planes.
That’s a great to be in aviation
Mine sat there in nearly the same spot for a year. Decided to sell it.
good for you. Is it flying again?
@@trueairspeed130 Got her fixed up and sold her. New owner flies her everyday. Im building a RV-7 now.

that N737UK looks nice, not sure if its as nice on the inside though!
I guess I could film closer.
@@trueairspeed130 That'd be nice of you to do so! If they let you get near them, what else do they have there? Any abandoned jets?
This is BODE field, I have just acquired spaced out there for my helicopter 🚁
Yes it is, what kind of helicopter do you fly?
All of them have active faa registration
Click bait
That’s correct
Watercraft are also orphaned. Holes in the water you pour money in to.
👍
They are part, not used as much as possible.
we shall see.
I’d love to get my license one day.

what is an orphaned airplane?
kind of lonely, feeling abandoned. Who knows who owns them... sad.
Sad they sit all alone!
Agreed
He can identify all of them except the Archer II....its written on the side of the plane!
When I was filming I was zooming in from pretty far away so I only had the small screen of the camcorder:)
It’s kinda like the rest of the city a trash pit
land of enchantment or land of entrapment, you sound like you more of the latter opinion

absolutely, I love airplanes and they are in a public space.
After sitting all those years who’s racing to go for a flight? Not me
good point

Abandoned
How do I get information on them
Type the tail number in google and the info pops up.
