The Mooney Mustang: The Rarest Production airplane?

- The Mooney M22 Mustang is an amazing airplane, it looks like a tankified version of a regular Mooney. The first Pressurized Single Engine airplane.
Read more about it here www.planeandpi...
This is most likely the lowest time Mooney M22 still in existence. if you are interested in Kevin's airplane text me at 505-515-5800 and I will pass your interest along.
The pressurization outflow valves were overhauled in 77-78. the door seals were always an issue. used sprayable proseal on the door frame to build up a flexable sealing surface that helped the problem. the Baron yokes were installed because the original wheel cracked and just didn't exist. we had to flight test the aircraft with the new yoke and do control force measurements to get the engineering approval from the FAA.
The thing is a rhinoceros, but she goes.
awesome information, I am sure this will be very helpful to Kevin and others.
I'm old and love airplanes but 1st time seeing this model. Very cool. I agree, it could've used more powerful engine. This is nice though. Thanks for posting. Got to get a flying video of this aircraft. I learned to fly on old gages like these. Glad he still has it original.
Thanks for watching!
We have a Mooney Mustang here at my home airport that just got moved from a hangar to “derelict row” about a year ago. It isn’t airworthy at the moment and I have no idea what all is wrong with it but I hate to see it’s demise sitting outside to rot.
thanks again
Where?

What a fantastic airplane. My dream airplane. It's great to see she's in good hands!
thanks
I love the old style cockpit. From back in the day when pilot's were real men!
Haha couldn’t agree more
In 1969 a local surgeon had a Mooney Mustang. I thought it was the greatest airplane.
Cool
That's pretty wild timing, I'm working on a new video which is a compilation of "obscure four-seaters", hoping to launch sometime next week. Low and behold, the Mustang is one of the planes in the mix. I'm glad to see this weird and wonderful Mooney is getting some more exposure!
I know, you did one on the Questair Venture as I was going through some bad experiences and ultimately lost $80K on one of them. Definitely not for a non-mechanic
Please please please show us a running/ flying video with it!!!! Please!!!
will do, suppose to meet again with Kevin when he flies it.
@trueairspeed130 sweet!! I own a 1967 m20f and absolutely love it. I don't mean to overstep my boundary, but I would love to fly down and be a chase plane. Maybe get some aerial side by side shots or something... just throwin it out there!!
Wow. What a cool plane. Thanks for posting this.
you're welcome
That's a big Mooney.
My dad had a Ranger. This is like taking a Ranger and converting it into a commercial airliner.
indeed.
Fantastic plane
indeed
What a beauty!
agreed
This Mooney would be awesome to purchase and completely restore from top to bottom ! Put a nice glass panel in and your set !!
right, maybe another $100K :)
FWIW: I never got my PPL, but I soloed in November of 1979.
That instrument panel IS what I think of as an instrument panel...😊
old fashioned indeed
Bro also has an ssr and a jag e type, this man has good taste
Yes he does
That thing is huge
indeed
125k? For an 1100 hour M22? Even with the door seal, that is low. Insurance must be stratospheric.
On the door seal, a vacuum cleaner blower is only good for a fraction of a PSI. The seals have hardened over the years and there is insufficient bleed air off the compressor to compensate.
Thanks for the input, I’ll pass along to Kevin
Love it!
Thanks!!
Interesting. I have seen several of those at airshows and they all had 8cyl Lycoming 720's under the hood.
hmm, I only know of the Commanche 400 with that engine.
Nice to see a Mooney mustang video, really not much if anything out there on these things
👍
At Basel Mulhouse airport there were two of this airplanes operated in the nineties and early 2000.
wonder where they went? can you track them down?

@@rhenus2625 very interesting.
One of the coolest Mooney’s ever built!
Turbo and Pressurized…. 😃
It was Mooney’s first step on the way to the TBM700
The next step is known as the Mooney 301. The 301 never made it into production….
Mooneys are designed and built for people with Long Bodies…. 😃
great feedback
Can you do a video on the pressurized Cessna 310P? It's even more rare than the Mustang!
If I stumble on one
Is this the one in New Mexico that has been listed for sale for some time??
correct
I am somewhat familiar with Mooneys, but I have _never_ seen this model before.
*EDIT→* I am 5'5" {165 cm} tall. That thing REALLY IS BIG.
plenty of space
I would own that.
If I keep wishing......
First time I heard of this bird.
I learned to fly in a 1970 model PA-28 140 Cherokee in 1972.
After 1973 all I can afford to fly are simulators.
nice
Where is the paint shop in Porto Ricko ?
It’s actually in the Dominican Republic but not sure where
Pristine too.
👍
I was wondering why such a beefy aircraft didn't have a 3 blade prop? A 6 cylinder, 310 Hp engine, certainly wouldn't have any problem turning it.
The door opens like a garage door! lol
Well, the tail says Mooney, no matter the size!
Just like an old car, this thing is well built, which is probably why it's still around. The paint could use a freshening up.
And if you were going to use this aircraft, in a modern setting today, the panel would certainly need to be replaced.
No use in carrying the weight of electronics that are no longer in service.
And then, modern avionics would certainly be much lighter than what's in the panel now...
Saving weight and adding to performance is always a good thing, I'd think anyway.
But... Keeping it in it's original, 'classic,' form might have an aesthetic quality, more modern instrumentation would lack.
good ideas.
$125k and 1100 total time? THAT'S CHEAP. I'd have to check the cost of operation, but if I were still flying....
That’s what I thought
I’m interested in the plane,
feel free to text me at 505-515-5800
And on Friday night, drag night, at your local shindig
,how tall are you then?
not sure I get it :)
Rare old airplane; the gear handle looks like it’s out of a B52
indeed
Mooney pony it is.
The 310 hp engine is a standard rating. It’s not derated.
The flaps are not slatted😂 ( only Americans can deform meanings ) but they are named slotted flaps that’s the correct name. Check the wing spars on corrosion
only Americans can build something like this :)
@@trueairspeed130 So right, well the Russians build something similar but way way uglier.
The French build something it would be too slender.
If the Dutch would build it must float.
@@MonkPetite wow monk, you bring so much warmth to the conversation, in such a friendly non-American way…. 😃
The 310hp is a bit light for such a large plane…. Short runways are not your friend.
But, the turbo keeps this power alive into the flight levels, where it shines…
All old planes have corrosion concerns… don’t skip the pre-purchase inspections.
😃
lol $125,000 😂 No low balls I know what I’ve got.
Everyone is negotiable it’s all about how you go about it
