I can throw a Thinline Telecaster on and then a big heavy Les Paul and hanging from the strap it's not a big difference in feeling. Not something I would notice bothering me even over an hour or more. There is a massive difference in weight between those guitars. Tele is a little over 7lbs and the Les Paul is around 11lbs. Might be because I'm a pretty big guy, 295lbs 6'4", so a few extra lbs on a guitar isn't really noticeable enough to even think about. It's not something I've ever given a thought about when shopping for guitars for sure. I've got enough trouble making a decision when shopping for a guitar, I'm glad weight isn't something extra for me to think about lol.
He repetatively says so many positive adjectives about each guitar, that it delivers the message , that he does not know what to say about each one and just randomly reads these words from "top 10 positive adjectives list" . So main takeway is : If you have too many guitars , you will have no time to play all of them and you will barely remember from where each one came from.
I think if Phil didn't have the channel he'd be selling off at least half of his collection. When you're recording, in a band and whatnot you tend to accept having more guitars haha !
Thanks for showing your incredible collection. One question, though. Wouldn't your American Standard Strat with the dent in the neck be a good candidate for a dent repair video? It's the technique where your place a wet towel on the dent then apply heat with a clothes iron tip or soldering gun to steam in moisture to make it swell and lift the dent out. Wouldn't this be possible because it's a basic satin finish on the neck and not painted?
Great collection of guitars !! I love your statement "I'd buy another guitar for wall art before I'd buy another painting !" I've said the same thing !! Great video , thanks !!
Man the best thing I ever did was pick 2 out of my fifteen and sold the rest. It literally makes me tired seeing that wall of guitars....dusting. strings changes.....God forbid you have to put them in cases and if you do.....I am certain you will forget one or 5. I like picking up a guitar to play without choosing. I go back and forth as I change strings. I have had the two for over 30 years.....true family. That's the reason I don't have one. Love the channel Phil.
I had 10+ guitars and didn't play many of them so I had a clear out and sold a load of them. Problem is, I spent ALL of the money made on new guitars. Oops. Anyway, great to see this collection. Something to aspire to!
I use to have an all-white Danelectro, similar to the one in the video and it was stolen from my room while I was in the Army stationed in Germany. All I have left of that guitar is the memories and one picture. ...(Sigh) I miss it.
Killer collection Phillip! I have a fairly large collection of guitars myself we actually have very similar taste in instruments. I can tell just from what I see in your collection that you have been doing this a long time and are very thoughtful on witch guitars you keep in your collection. I've owned hundreds of guitars and really love the 80's shredder stuff but the one guitar I've always wanted but never got around to getting is the Alvarez Dana Scoop, seeing yours inspired me to finally try and track one down. Thanks for sharing and I really dig your channel!
18:00 - Fender American Standard Strats in the 2015ish range are THE absolute BEST Strat for the $$ you can find! I got a Hercules guitar stand that claims it can hold 10 guitars (I currently have 5 electric guitars and 2 basses on mine), it's great, I can see all my guitars, and it's so easy to grab one and play it.
I'm guilty of owning to many , in my defense I've been adding and subtracting since 1975 and 1/4 of my collection cost under $50 even one for $15. Then I have a bunch under $130. I do have very few from $1200 -$3500 and they don't sound better than some of my cheapos they just play easier and relieve so much hand pain (quality build). Just sharing.
“Even” the Suhr? Do you not like em? I think they’re very well made knock offs but, what never understood was, for that price tag, why wouldn’t you just buy the real thing?
@@shaneb1313 nah, Ive never been in ones presence so have no perspective. It was a statement in jest as Phil was a little dismissive of its percieved greatness throughout the video when discussing similar guitars.
Beautiful collection Phil. I was scared that my wife would see this I realized we're neck and neck. Wife and I are moving (not far from Austin), but what made us laugh is when I starting packing gear, I was like "whoa", when will the guitar straps stop having babies! I have so many toys on my list, I don't know what's next. Gotta say that my three EBMMs have impeccable. Newest (yr ago) is my G&L ASAT CLASSIC Fullerton Dlx (adds belly carve). Ugh, love it! Light too!
I only own 3 guitars. The last one I got is a Fender Lead 2. It weighs exactly 6 and 1/2 lbs. Now I'm obsessed with lightweight guitars! The lack of weight with all the body contours...maximum comfort! I'm interested in a Mira now...I didn't know they were that ridiculously light.
Very impressive collection Phillip! My favorites were the Suhr, the EVH, and the LP custom. I love your presentations, if it wasn't for you I never would have known about Harley Benton, I recently purchased a DC junior with a Roswell P90 in it. I never had a P90 before and I just love playing that guitar and that fire breathing pickup! Best off, it only cost me like $260.00 shipped to my house. Thanks again Phil and it always fun watching you play, you do kick ass, but you never disappoint with your selection of amps and pedals too!
Very nice collection, Phil. You seem to have imposed a weight limit of 8 lbs. Very sensible! If I'm not mistaken it was only the LP that crashed through that ceiling.
Love the Gretch guitar! I bought my first Gretch a few months ago. I have been adding to my collection, especially the last 6 months. I will not have anywhere close to yours. Awesome!
Wow that was alot of guitars and not a clunker in the bunch!! I have 26 guitars but still have like 4 clunkers i keep messing with, maybe one day i will love them ? Ha. This is my favorite utube channel, I have a crap ton of gear because i don’t have time to sell stuff. Rock on!
You have a wonderful collection of beautiful guitars. If I had the opportunity to choose just one; it would be the ES 335. I've been in love with that model since I first laid eyes on one hanging in a pawn shop window in Gary, Indiana way back in 1961. Although I've owned and gigged with several other guitar types through the years; the 335 is still my main squeeze!
Phillip, growing up I always thought the heavy weight of a Les Paul was one of the contributing factors to its amazing tone and sustain. Is that a myth? I’d love a lighter weight Les Paul but worry I’d be sacrificing something. I’d love to hear from your experience. Thanks and subscribed!
Just being honest I prefer the sound of the heavier Les Paul because the weight relived ones are chambered (basically meaning they're a semi hollow body guitar). That being said removing the wood although it makes it lighter and more comfortable to play it affects the tone because of the removal of the wood.
Heavier guitars generally have a really great resonance not necessarily sustain. Semi hollows have a great presence but heavier guitars are great for tone
My PRS weighs about 6.4 lbs and easily blows away my 8.8 lb LP on sustain and tone. I almost never touch my LP anymore because of how much it weighs vs my other guitars that are much lighter and sound great. That said, I’m clearly in the “heavier is not better” camp.
Terrific video ... must be a daily joy to grab this one or that one to play. Thanks for doing this video; 30 mins. very well spent. Was sure we were going to see at least one Tom Anderson.
Damn you have a lot of guitars! I wish I still had my main 3 from when I was younger... a mid 80's single humbucker red Charvel with maple neck, early 90's black HSS Jackson, and a late 80's BC Rich Warlock. The one I miss the most is that Charvel. Paid around 300 for it brand new back then, now used they go for around 800-1,000.
Man, that’s guitar heaven right there. I have 2 guitars. A 2005 fender deluxe strat, and a Taylor gs mini. Thinking about selling the Taylor and picking up a Martin, but they are so darn expensive! The one I’m looking at is the Martin d10-e and that sets me back 1000 bucks if I would go for it. So far I just cant justify the purchase since I feel like as an intermediate player, I won’t get my money’s worth out of it. Especially not since I already own the strat.
Phil, I really love your channel.I'll admit some serious envy on the part of your collection. I don't know how old you are, but I started playing in the late 70's when I was in Jr. High school. I was around 14 yrs old. But I always had to rent guitars back then. When I finally bought my first guitar, a bass, I had been saving up money by working on a farm in between my sophomore and jr. year in High school. I bought a new Rickenbacker 4001 and a Peavy Mark IV bass head with 2 10' and on 15' speakers. I only paid $650 for the bass, and wish so bad I would have kept it because now a good condition one is worth around $5k - $7k. It was a top end version with Grover tuners, checkerboard binding, and everything. I sold it to help pay for my oldest son's birth, but didn't get much for it. Anyway, I now have 5 guitars and 1 bass (a highly modified Squire Jazz bass.) I've got at least three or four basses on my list, and countless guitars. But I also have to knock off a few priorities before I even attempt the quantity you have. I love EVH brand guitars. I really wish they would start building basses like Wolf was playing when he was touring with his dad. Of the three EVH guitars I have, two have discontinued finishes. I barley got one of the last royal blue with maple fingerboard guitars. I do have an EVH Frankie that I got at the 2020 price; which is at least $200 cheaper than the current price. I don't know if you've done an amp version of this video, but I would like to see what amps you keep around. I recently purchased an EVH 5150III LBX-S and I absolutely love it. It's the only guitar tube amp I've ever owned. I've always just had small solid state combo amps simply because I could not justify the expensive tube amps. I've been raising 5 kids and that's a pretty tough job. Although those new EVH ionic amps are more reasonably priced. With my bass amps, I've just used a pre-amp, like a Sansamp RPM or the Sansamp Geddy Lee 2112 powered by a GK 700 watt head. Sorry for blabbing on, but like I said, I really love your channel. I've watched it a lot more than I've commented. I hope to be around 20 guitars by the end of 2022. I want to get most of my must-haves out of the way by then. Have a good one and Rock-on!!!
EBMM guitars are one of the best out there, in my book, and after owning a JP-6 Majesty BFR, pulled the trigger on Cutlass RS SSS and the necks on these guitars are so comfortable that it has made me a better guitar player!
I pre-ordered a Gibson Les Paul Custom ‘68 reissue on Guitar Center. Arrival date says next week, so I’m giving them a week! It will likely be my heaviest guitar, but man do they sound ever so sweet. 😎
I can appreciate the joy of having a huge collection, and no one asked me, but I would consolidate big time, while upgrading at the same time. Get one great SSS vintage style strat, one great HH or HSS strat, keep the Gibson Les Paul R9 get rid of the others. One t style, one great SG. One bass, one hollow PRS and one solid. One shredder Ibanez. You get the idea. Bank a few grand and have a manageable collection that you will play and keep up with string changes. There are only so many hours in the day. I have 6 and it is difficult to play them all enough.
I actually agree. If i were super wealthy I’d have a very large open music room with high ceilings, guitars on one wall and a collection of great amps. I might even find some local tech to come and change the strings on all of them once a month and check for truss rod adjustments. That said, I would only own so many guitars that I could still feel connected to all of them. That number for me is probably 15 max with the least favorite couple of guitars getting switched out every so often.
I used to have 30+ guitars and agree 100% with you. I feel guilty that guitars SHOULD be played and I won't play it so I reduced reduced reduced keepin it around 10. Might seem excessive still, but I am a diehard gearhead lol. Way better to trade in a guitar you barely play for something you will!
Love those guitars, gold top les Paul is favorite, I just bought a Fender player series Strat Hss, plus top, sienna sunburst maple neck, fell in love with it, I also have a 92 epiphone les Paul standard , special edition mattalec red, black tuning keys and hardware. Got it for a steal. Great video . Really liked it . Love that prs.
From a distance, your shirt looks like it says "Know Your Scar"!?!? That "drop d device" on your gorgeous purple Peavey Wolfgang is super cool! I'm sure that device has been around for years but I've never seen one before,
Purple Peavy and Framus can be upgraded with really great Deusenberg / Goldo / Guyker / GuitarFetish tremolo without any drilling or alignment issues which replaces the stoptail.
Hey Phil, Would love to see a video where you talk about buying acoustics and what you look for. Particularly, any advice you have for buying them online. Thanks and keep it up!
should've named it the Less Paul instead of the Les Paul Lite

Sorry for blabbing on, but like I said, I really love your channel. I've watched it a lot more than I've commented. I hope to be around 20 guitars by the end of 2022. I want to get most of my must-haves out of the way by then. Have a good one and Rock-on!!!
I LIKE YOUR SHOW VERY MUCH AND YOUR GUITARS YOU ARE A WILD AND CRAZY GUY 👦
That Warwick bass...ooof is that BEAUTIFUL! Your dead on the $ with "dream bass" I REALLY want the Stuart Zender model....don't have the $ though lol.
Sweetwater please pay this man to do an extended multi hour director's cut
Phil, great collection! But how about some more offsets? What about some Jazzmasters , Jags, Firebirds, Mustangs, Ibanez Talmans, Fanos?
If you like offsets, check out the Framus Televisions
Cool collection Phil. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I am very surprised that I didn’t see a schecter, but none the less, very nice collection phil.
With the hardtail Wolfgang, you should get one of those stuff mount Kahlers. I have always wondered what they are like to install.
No EBMM JP6 with the Sonic Ecstasy’s? Killer collection, Phil! I love that sparkle Charvel, Swirl N4, and the Parker Fly!
EBMM guitars are one of the best out there, in my book, and after owning a JP-6 Majesty BFR, pulled the trigger on Cutlass RS SSS and the necks on these guitars are so comfortable that it has made me a better guitar player!
Some nice guitars there mate. Very diverse too. Some brands we don't see down here in Oz. Makes my 6 guitars seem dull. My wife doesn't think so...
I pre-ordered a Gibson Les Paul Custom ‘68 reissue on Guitar Center. Arrival date says next week, so I’m giving them a week! It will likely be my heaviest guitar, but man do they sound ever so sweet. 😎
Speechless! That is an amazing collection.
Seriously, love ya Phil, keep doing it, I’m with ya
Super cool, man. It's a really nice, diverse collection. I spy the ones with the strap locks. ;)
Oh crap, here we go! Exciting!
I'm shocked that, visually, the guitar of yours I liked the best was the Kiesel Theos! Will have to check it out. Great video Phil
lol the intro sounded more like: "they made me do it" lol. Thanks for the content Phil!
Awesome vid! Love seeing all of your babies!!!!!!
Ha! I had one of those Alvarez scoops. Also had the one cut out under the bridge like Reb Beach's Ibanez.
You are a man, rich in guitars!
great video some really great guitars in there.
Hey Phil,
Would love to see a video where you talk about buying acoustics and what you look for. Particularly, any advice you have for buying them online.
Thanks and keep it up!
