Waltz of the Flowers isn’t actually a Disney tune it’s a piece written by Tchaikovsky. You recognize it because it’s from The Nutcracker ballet, but it is used in one of the fantasia movies!
"Old Lady Daisy" is actually Elvira Duck (née Coot), better known as Grandma Duck, Donald's paternal grandmother who runs a farm in the outskirts of Duckburg. She was introduced in a newspaper comic strip in 1940 and is still to this day a mainstay in Disney comic books. But she very rarely makes appearances in other media, so it's very cool to see her appear here. Morty and Ferdie, Mickey's twin nephews, also have their origins in old comic strips, but have been seen semi-frequently in animation.
@@DOC_951 The Duck lore goes very very deep. They are the best selling comic books worldwide, and are popular almost everywhere except for their home country USA. To anyone who wants to give them a go I absolutely recommend the works of Carl Barks and Don Rosa, the latter has even made an epic chronicle about the life of Scrooge McDuck, detailing his family history and all.
nah he legit played DDR just before Starcraft. But it took him a long time to edit the Starcraft video, he even worked on parts of it with viewers on stream. It's going to be a very long one
I've been competitively playing DDR for 20 years. I've been following this series for a long time and I can't tell you how much my face lit up when this video dropped. Brilliant video. Cheers!
Never knew DDR had a release on N64. Fascinating stuff. Also StarCraft 64 was the way I played StarCraft at all back in the day. I did not have a gaming computer at home, so I learned on the N64 controller. This next one should be interesting.
Mickey is wearing tabi socks, dressed for a matsuri (Japanese festival) and he's playing a taiko drum, which is behind him. He's holding drumsticks. From the background it looks like he's supposed to be at the 五山送り火 (gosan okuri-bi) mountain fire festival in Kyoto where five giant kanji characters are lit up on five mountain faces around the city of Kyoto.
Yes, quite. *Pushes up weeb glasses* It looks like he's somewhere along 鴨川 (Kamo river) facing west, with 比叡山 (mt. Hieisan) and 大文字山 (mt. Daimonji) in the background, Mickey's head having replaced the lit up kanji character 大 (big) on 大文字山.
@@crism8868 I've not played or seen it so I couldn't say for sure; but there are a lot of things that are very common at lots of festivals around Japan. Taiko drums and Mickey's outfit and lots of other things are quite common.
I recognized some songs. The Mickey Mouse March was a remix of the Mickey Mouse Club theme song from the 50s/60s. Electric Parade is a mix of the parade music at the Disney Theme parks. Waltz of the Flowers and Russian Dance are from the Nutcraker ballet, which were featured in Fantasia. And Tiki Room is obviously from the Tiki Room attraction. Mickey Motion was a song I heard a few times, but I don’t remember where. I looked it up, and apparently it originated on Mickey’s Rock Around the Mouse album.
Two things: 1-Konami already made a game for Arcade and PS1 called Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix that used eurobeat remixes of Disney songs (search for the Mickey Mouse March Eurobeat remix it's awesome) so they already had the licence to use them for games. Why they didn't use them? Well... 2-This game was aimed at little kids on a console that wasn't easy to develop games for due to the limited space of the cartridges, so probably they didn't put much effort into it. Case in point, Konami didn't release another DDR game on this console after this one.
Were these pop songs recorded by Disney Records? They were probably promoting gamers to check out their other idiom of the time. Waltz of the Flowers was a Tchaikovsky tune used in Fantasia. This is the Michael Eisner era, so I doubt that any tune was selected for convenience.
Super excited for StarCraft. Funny enough, I found out about the StarCraft/Warcraft series from playing that on n64 as a kid. Then found out it was on PC and became a life long fan.
There are also a Disney Themed DDR game on the PS1 known as DanceDance Revolution Disney Mix, and the only reason I own it is because of the Soundtrack, there is completely wild stuff like "It´s a Small World (Ducking Hardcore Mix)" on that thing, and it´s as ridiculous as it sounds.
A bit more about Para Para: Para Para (パラパラ, "Para-Para" or "ParaPara") is a synchronized dance that originated in Japan. Unlike most club dancing and rave dancing, there are specific synchronized movements for each song much like line dancing. Para Para has existed since the early 1980s when European countries started selling Italo disco and Euro disco, and in the mid-to late 1970s, new wave and synthpop music in Japan. However, it did not achieve much popularity outside Japan until the late 1990s. Para Para is strongly associated with Eurobeat. Dave Rodgers, a Eurobeat artist, has described Para Para as the only way to dance to Eurobeat, which is usually "so fast".
Waltz of the Flowers is from the Nutcracker Ballet by Tchaikovsky, which is really weird to be in a Disney game, but guess it makes sense due to this being a DDR game.
I love me some DDR. Was in high school in the early 00's and that's right at the height of it. My friends and I would play for hours on end, collecting tons of user made songs in Stepmania on PC. Have so many good memories playing these games and just the sight of a dancepad or hearing a menu sound effect instantly takes me back to those days. Would give anything to go back to them again.
I just got a new DDR pad recently and have been playing stepmania. Highly recommend L-tek pads for anyone interested. It's been great dancing again. Nice to see this came up about the same time I started playing again lol
I always enjoy your family-friendly delivery in your videos. You also seem to genuinely have fun with just about every game. Your positivity is contagious. Keep it up! Oh, and keep up the "What's that?" catchphrase!
"Waltz of the Flowers" was written by Tchaikovsky, for The Nutcracker Suite. The Disney connection is that they used this music in "Fantasia". I'd have to investigate the pop tunes on this game, but if I were to take a guess, they probably belong to whatever Disney Records produced at the time.
8:44 - During Mickey Mouse’s Ondou(?) he’s playing taiko drums (or whatever kind of drums you play in the game series Taiko no Tatsujin). They are huge traditional japanese drums =)

Funny how Disney is such a huge company but didn't allow any license any of their actual good well known songs.
Then they’d have to pay royalties to the songwriters again, even though they’re Disney produced films. And they’re too cheap to do that, apparently.
