    To finish my first contribution to your subscribers, I would like to share my experience by telling everyone that big DSLRs don't mean big photos or big photographers. With the Fuji gear I use now I am able to work doing what I really wanted (from studio portraits to night events as well as my real passion; street photography) with much less stress, weight and menus. With more useful and accessible gear. The equiptment I presented below is my perfect combination for what I do and it is giving me freedom to get where I wanted with my photography. One more time, thank you Ted!

      +Lome Roger Yeah Lome, I even find that having a smaller camera makes things that much easier with my clients and models - less intimidating large body and lens pointed at them. The photo shoot experience has a much easier, laid back and intimate, creative vibe. I didn't really expect that but it's a nice addition to what Fuji brings. Thanks again, Lome!

    Hi Ted I’m Howie I owned a mom & pop camera store for 43 years. I have a Fuji xe1 & xe2s and 4 lenses and love the black & whites. I just enlarged a print in color for the Cardinal in Newark NJ it was tack sharp. Keep up the great work I’ve seen all of your videos and love them. I’m taking photos since the late 1950s. Howie G.

    I'm doing the same thing Ted. And it has been your videos that have swayed me to go from my precious Olympus E5 over to a Fuji XT-1. Thank you so much for your videos and inspiration.

    Ted we have corresponded before and as usual this video is very informative and appreciated. I worked for Nikon for 33 years and when I retired at the age of 58 I continued to use it for a couple of more years. Then I wanted something smaller and lighter and wound up with Pentax K10 and 20 cameras which were superb. Then I became intrigued with Olympus four thirds and found the images and glass that produced those images were excellent. Finally I went to micro four thirds and I had no complaints with image quality, but the menus drove me insane. As soon as the Fuji Xpro1 became available I jumped on it and have never looked back. Now it is the Fuji Xt1 with several prime lenses and a couple of adapted Nikon lenses and could not be happier. Small, lightweight, incredible optics, simple menus, versatile controls. Love it.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +ELLIOT STERN Yeah man, I am more and more happy everyday that I made the switch to Fuji. I almost went for micro four thirds a few years ago for just a "fun" camera, but that's when I found the X100 and went that route instead... which eventually brought me here on the Fuji side of life. :) Thanks Elliot!

    Hello Ted! I'm a Brazilian photographer who studied photography in Toronto - Canada but now I live in Japan for good. I want to thank you for bringing this channel "dedicated" to Fuji photographers/users. Great language, great manners, great content, great presentation and last but not least, great photographs. I started as a Nikon shooter and staid loyal to the brand for four years until I switched to Canon. Again, after a long time building a good and expensive setup with my Nikon gear I decided to do the same for Canon, even if I knew I wold put much more money this time. For another four years I was happy with the Canon gear (even more than with the Nikon). When the X-T1 was launched I borrowed from my friend for a week, just to know if that little camera would make me buy a third brand... It only took me one week to decide to get rid of all my Canon and Nikon gear and marry Fuji.

    Tried setting the xt1 to ISO Auto for night shooting - WOW! Never expected to get such wonderful images. XT-1 is an outstanding camera. Thanks so much for all the great advice.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Michael Czahur Yeah man, isn't that awesome!? I go out at night a lot and will with Auto ISO I'm taking shots and 3200, 4000, 5000 and even 6400 sometimes. It's street stuff so I don't mind if it get's a little noisy at all (which is still pretty minimal). One thing I've noticed is that I don't even really mind the look of the noise from Fujis. With my Canon it wasn't pretty, but even the noise looks more pleasing on the X-T1 and X100T. Thanks Michael!

  • @jayallan-eq4tq
    @jayallan-eq4tq 4 роки тому +1

    Love your work Ted and thank you for sharing. One thing I've found is just by taking your advice of autoISO 200-6400 has made me a better shooter. Set my SS 60 to 120 range and I'm no longer worried about getting a blurry image. I'm getting older/ a bit shaky and was consumed with my stabilized lens. Taking 3-5 photos of the same thing just to make sure I got a sharp one at a lower SS and 100-200 ISO. That all ended after I watched your video and started looking at photos from the past. Grain is good and I'm embracing it.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  4 роки тому

      Hey J W, thanks for your comment, man. Yeah, I know what you mean about getting older. These days I'm shooting manual focus rangefinder film and digital cameras. I'm fine with it for now, but my eyesight isn't great. Hopefully I can shoot with these for many years to come. I've just grown so attached to manual focus. Thanks again.

    I now shoot mostly jpgs, simply because, as you clearly state, getting the shot as you capture it exactly how you want it is so much better than relying on LR, and that classic chrome look is so gorgeous, i now use it 90% of the time, other times i will use astia, which is a bit more vibrant but not so overpowering as the velvia look, which is way too saturated at its base level with nothing tweaked, i usually reduce colour by -1 if need be, and fuji's in body B&W is simply stunning, i have used it several times now and im always impressed with its IQ, and yes, darker shadows are a must! I only shoot on a lowly x-a2 but with that 35mm f2 lens, the camera blows my tiny little mind! I am hoping fuji give us all the new Accros film sim in a future FW update, but im sure i read somewhere that fuji wont be doing anymore FW updates, i cant see that being the case though! Great video, really enjoyed it =)

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому +1

      +Alexandra Starr (photographer) Hey Alexandra, yeah I agree with you on all of that! I hadn't heard that about Fuji, not continuing with FW updates. That's kind of one of the main things that's really impressing people with their brand right now. Doubt they'll change course there. Yeah, the 35 f2!!! I love that lens so much! Thanks Alexandra, have a great weekend!

    • @AlexandraStarr1974
      @AlexandraStarr1974 8 років тому +1

      +Ted Vieira i think they will continue FW updates for the higher end range, the x-t1, xt10, xpro1 and xe2 etc, but the lower end like my x-a2 and the x-m1 will only get fw updates when new lenses are released, with no additional functionality, the x-t1 though, i do love that camera, its on my list of potential future buys, and if the x-t2 does come out this year, the x-t1 will become the bargain of the century lol

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Alexandra Starr (photographer) Yeah Alexandra, those cameras have been a little off my radar so haven't been following what Fuji has been doing there. But I also imagine that in general the people shooting with those cameras might not be as concerned about the FW updates as the people using the upper X series cameras. Yeah, if you can pick up an X-T1 for a great price with the X-T2 drops - man, you'll be getting a powerful camera. The updates that will probably be coming on the X-T2 will be very cool (if similar to the X-Pro2 features), but won't be so far superior to what the X-T1 already delivers. I can only guess about all of this right now though. It will be interesting (and exciting) to see what they deliver with the X-T2 when it actually is announced! Thanks very much, Alexandra!

    Fuji XM-1 for about four days now. Body bought separately from kit lens. Both cost 290. Naturally, early pics are bumping into the camera, getting mixed up, wondering why pressing on the vertical wheel doesn't five me a full digital zoom to help focus, even when the manual says you've picked the right manual setting to get it, and of course early pics are from inside the house, playing around with macro, etc. Today..I walked a couple of blocks with it. Late afternoon around 5. There are a couple of very large flowering creatures across the street. Exotic, thick leaves like iceplant, tall stalks. huge blooms. Decided to try the black and white setting in manual, trying to not shoot above 400, trying to shoot dark, at wide, at zoomed in. I shot black and white because I noticed a while before that the camera had trouble in macro shooting roses next door, as there wasn't enough contrast to help focus. Well, try black and white and see how much better it does. I liked the jpegs. I went home, still hadn't figured out how to open raw in the app, so only had jpegs. About 5 percent of them looked like I had studied Ansel Adams Zone system for years. It was crazy what I was looking at. The leaves had dust on them, catching the light, so I needed to spot these hot particles. And lemme tell you, not much else. I've been in the biz since 1970. This may be the most uncanny day I've ever had. No one is supposed to go out and shoot the kind of images I got on the first day with a camera. I reopened the raw app, finally figured out that after opening a raw pic, selecting Development under File would let me save to jpeg or tiff. But who would have guessed... Now tomorrow, I'll be right back at those giant flowering beasts shooting raw. Trying to get what I got on jpeg. Because prints will be made of these. Ask, I'll show. Crazy. I mean crazy.

    Thanks for your reply, Ted. I like the TCL, it's a great addition to the Fuji X-100t. With almost no lost of image quality. Fuji did a great job with both converters. It's nice to have a light travelkit with the classic focallenghts of 28-35 and 50mm. The only thing is the weight, you need the thumbgrip for a perfect balance.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Robert van Heumen Yeah Robert, I noticed the very difference in the 'feel' of the X100 with the TCL. A little nose-heavy, but I need to get used to walking around with it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get out later tonight. :)

      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +TheMobileMan Very cool, man - yeah, I never even considered doing wedding photography, but when I saw Kevin's approach and what he was able to capture with these smaller cameras... I'd do a wedding now, for any couples who would want that style of photography for their wedding. To me it's a much more emotional experience to see that kind of photography than a traditionally shot wedding with a lot of poses and standard shots. The style that Kevin shoots in captures actual memories and personalities and moments. And he does a great job at being able to get those shots. Thanks again man!

    I am also a b&w guy, and i am mainly shooting black and white film, but the Fuji made me liking digital color shooting AND even though i completely abandoned digital last year and sold out most of my Canon gear, i now started shooting digital again from time to time, because i happened to grab a bargain on Fuji X-Pro1 with couple of lenses. I use same settings for my street b&w except i also reduce NR to -1, and for color, i shoot Velvia simulation, also extra punch version (contrasty). It's scary how this simulation looks like a real Velvia! I understand it's a same company but man, it's SO close to the quality and feeling of film - not that i see myself abandoning film in the nearest future, but it's fun to shoot digital with Fuji (never thought i'd say that). Yeah and monochrome modes KICK ASS! I certainly see myself buying X-Pro2 in the future, when i can afford it.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      Yeah Dani, I would shoot color for clients but usually would always prefer b&w (still do prefer b&w for the most part), but since I've been shooting with Fuji I am really enjoying the color I get from these files- beautiful! Thanks man!

    My X100F has such good jpgs (and this was one of the reasons I went with it) that I have changed my LR workflow entirely. I shoot RAW + jpg. I copy all the files into an archive folder from the SD card. Next step is I create a sub folder called RAW and move all the raw files into it. I import only the jpgs in place into LR. If I find that I don't like the jpg during post, I import the raw file at that time and process it. It is painful because there is no linkage, if I delete a jpg from LR, the raw is effectively orphaned in its sub folder. I asked around on the LR forums and I was the odd man out on this (as I expected). LR will like the jpg and raw files, but you will only see the raw after that takes place. I wanted to do the opposite.
    I am looking forward to the new firmware and Fuji raw processing app coming out this November/December.
    On a semi related note, do you have the same settings for your Acros film simulation on the newer Fujis?

      im just about to jump from Canon to fuji with the XT10. Heard great things and it's more in my budget than the XT1. I'm heavily considering grabbing the amazing fuji 35mm f2 lens as my starter, but also heard the 18-55mm f2.8-4 kit lens is amazing too. Any thoughts on which one i should grab?
      Cheers!

    • @iamrichlol
      @iamrichlol 8 років тому

      +Nathan Baldassero the 18-55 is nice but it's not really for me as f4 at 55mm isn't good enough for what I like to do. If it was a consistent 2.8 then I'd be happier, but I'd rather just have only primes all under f2

    • @NathanBaldassero
      @NathanBaldassero 8 років тому

      Good point, that was actually my concern but figured the great ISO on the camera would soften the blow a little. But I think I'm leaning to all primes as well. Cheers

Same for when I'm looking for wider shorts I just keep the28mm on and I don't even think of changing it. Right now I find myself doing street photography with my 28 mm more than anything else. Had to go back and watch this again. Decided to set my X-T2 the same way so I can go out and shoot some Acros and Chrome and see if I can rely solely on jpeg output. Hey, another excuse to get out and shoot right? I find myself using the exposure dial a lot. Love that dial.

      Hi Anthony, sorry for the delay, just getting caught up. Since I made this video I've experimented with different settings and will adjust for specific situations. But most of the time will return to these settings. And yeah, I use the same settings for any of the film simulations. Thanks man!

    Thanks a lot Ted. Really great stuff. I was a RAW shooter until recently but then discovered just how good the JPEGs can be. If you can get it right in camera then it's a no brainer. I'm on Pro Neg Hi but I'm sure that will change to Classic Chrome when I upgrade from my X-Pro 1. Your pictures are spot on. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for the video; but I'd like to ask you for further explanation:-
    it's clear to me that there is a lot of confusion over the Tone control settings - both Highlights and Shadows.
    I'm confused and looking round the forums, I think a lot of other people are confused too.
    I'd be really grateful for a short, clear explanation of these settings
    (more detail in highlights => minus setting, blown highlights => plus setting??)
    thanks

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +David Shire Hey David, actually it sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on it. Yeah, you'll still need to adjust your exposure settings accordingly with how you've adjusted the shadows and highlight settings. And actually I'm not always too concerned if I blow out some highlights or loose detail in the shadows. It's on a "per image" basis, but I almost think it sometimes adds to the feel of the image. Thanks man!

    Now I don't own any other digital cameras other than my X-T1 and my X100T. I was happy that all the money from my previous two brands were enough to buy the eight more important lenses for the X-T1 and also the 50mm and the 28mm lens converters for the X-100T. I even had some money left to get two ThinkTank Retrospective 30, one Fuji Instax Mini printer SP1 (I give install pints as part of my service during events and also to strangers - for free - when I'm doing street photography) and a monster Canon Pixus Pro 1 printer (the Japanese version of the Canon Pixma Pro 1 - they have different names for Japanese and american markets but the printer is the same).

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Lome Roger Yeah man, you're set! I love the Instax printer for the reasons you just gave - really makes it a fun experience. And very cool about the Canon printer. A friend has a Canon Pro9500 and he doesn't use it so let's me keep it at my place - I love those prints! How do you like the TCL and WCL for the X100T? I've been considering picking up one or both. I used to love the 23mm focal range, but now I either like to go longer or wider. Let me know how you like using them. Do they effect your DOF? Thanks Lome!

    • @lomeroger4101
      @lomeroger4101 8 років тому +1

      +Ted Vieira Thanks for asking about this Ted! Both WCL and TCL work perfectly. So far, no signs of chromatic aberration or lens vignette whatsoever. The TCL, with its 50mm focal length makes the X100T a very good tool for street portraits or even for portraits during small events when companies hire me to photograph business dinners in very tine restaurants (very common here in Japan). The WCL with its 28mm focal length is also a great toll for the same reason. Both lenses are great when I'm doing street photography for street portraits (50mm) and when I'm shooting in narrow streets so I can get very cool effects by shooting from low angle or even from the hip. It does get in the way when using the OVF however, you can focus and see with no problem. I believe it will be a great addition to your setup. I would like to tell you one more thing. I also use the LensMate thumb grip and a soft release button and it works perfect and also makes the camera even more beautiful. As a case for both X-T1 and X100T I couldn't be satisfied and happier with the Gariz half case with the metal plate at the bottom and the leather straps form the same brand. Its beautiful and functional. Cheers!

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Lome Roger Thanks again, Lome! I think will check both the TCL and WCL out. I'm really loving the 35f2 on the X-T1 and am missing that angle of view when I shoot with the X100T. Think I will order that one this week. Thanks again!

      ***** On very cool thing I forgot to mention is that somehow the images come out even sharper then with the native 35mm. After I realized that, I did some research and I found some "old" videos of the Fuji Guys and some real life photographers saying the same thing. I'm glad I figured that out before I found the videos because I probably wouldn't believe. Let me make it clear that I am not sponsored by Fuji whatsoever. I wish... I am just a very UNKNOWN photographer based in Japan and I make tons of CENTS with my photography. I'm glad I have a full time job cause my photography only covers my gear... lol

    thanks so much ted for your prompt reply.
    i also have a canon 580 flash (have only one)....so im not heavily invested in flashes...i also dont mind using the flash in manual. and since im thinking abt getting the xt2, i thought it would b a good idea to get some off camera flash/strobes, when needed.
    i was looking at the cactus and cheetahstand (godox)...
    if fujifilm will eventually make the 23mm lens with f2 (the compact version), that would b awesome....that is what i have in mind....by the end of this year....now i have a canon 1d mark ii....which is heavy and outdated....and i think its time to get a newer camera....and so far i like the fuji cameras....especially i read that it renders amazing jpegs (sooc)....which is awesome.
    thanks again ted.

      +Ted Vieira One more thing Ted. When you have +1 o +2 (like Kevin Mullins) don't you see some weird artifacts on the edges, like people glasses or fine lines get distorted when you watch at 100% I know if you print or watch the full image you cannot see any of those artifacts.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Juan Kis Hey Juan, I haven't noticed any issues. I have to admit though I'm not really a pixel peeper and often don't get in that close for a look. Things like that might get by me now and then. Now these in camera settings only effect the JPEGs and if I print something, or if it's a photo for a client, so far I've always used the RAW files. I'll have to check that out.

  • @bleuswiffer
    @bleuswiffer 8 років тому +1

      +bleuswiffer Yeah man, we're pretty much the same there. I'm imagining that the longer I end up shooting with Fuji I'm hoping to move more towards making minor tweaks and adjustments in-camera so I can just start going with the JPEGs more often - for now the majority, I'm still editing the RAW files. Thanks again, man!

    Hello Ted, nice videos thanks for sharing, I have the X100T but I'm thinking to get rid of it and move to the XT1.. What do you think? Cheers from Mexico

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому +1

      Hey Christian, thanks very much! Man, if possible I would try and keep the X100T and also get the X-T1. Would that be a possibility? The only reason I suggest that is that, while the X-T1 is a very good camera and would give you the option of switching lenses, the X100T is really an amazing street photography camera or very good for situations where you really need the quiet shooting that the leaf shutter provides. Even though I'm shooting the X-Pro2 most of the time these days, I still really appreciate the shooting experience that the X100T provides.
      That being said, if you really want to keep to one camera, the X-T1 is a pretty fantastic camera. And it's really about the same size as the X100 series. It would give you faster auto focus speeds which is always a good thing. Also offers weather sealing which is nice, and then of course gives you the option to use different lenses.
      The X-T2 is coming out later this summer. If you can wait until July or maybe August, that could really work in your favor. The X-T2 will really offer a lot more camera - the 24mp sensor and new processor. That'll be very nice! But even if you don't want to go for that, the X-T1 will probably really come down in price, so you could go for the new X-T2, or really get a good savings on an X-T1 (which will still give you fantastic images and shooting experience). Anyway, hope this helps somewhat. Let me know which way you end up going. Thanks again, Christian!

I sold all my canon 40D, 5D mk ii etc kit and havent looked back. Im with you on everything and im just glad the myth of bigger is better has been exposed with the fuji x series. Im just about to purchase the 35mm f2 to compliment the 23 and 56. 2 questions please. 1. The wedding photographer you rated -were you stating he shoots jpeg only now? 2. What make trigger/receiver do you recommend for xt1 (seems flash is the weakness to fuji system at present)

      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Craig Baron Hey, thanks very much, Craig! Yeah, Kevin Mullins - very inspiring work. The interviews in which I've heard Kevin talk about this issue, he talks about how the bulk of the images he'll give the customers come from the JPEGs. He mentions that if the light is a little sketchy he's shoot FINE + RAW just in case. If you haven't seen his work, you really ought to check it out. Here's his wedding site (beautiful stuff!)
      www.kevinmullinsphotography.co.uk/
      I'm shooting FINE+RAW and a lot of the time, if the photo is for a blog post or I can't see anything I need to do to improve the image, I'll use the JPEG. For most of my portrait work and street photography I will still edit the RAW files a lot of the time.

      +Victor Dellepiane Hey Victor, actually I made a conscious decision when I moved over to Fuji that I would stick to prime lenses, so I don't have any experience with the 18-135, but I've heard pretty good things about that zoom. +Adrian Congrats on the X70, Adrian! I haven't had a chance to play with one yet, but man, so much power packed in such a compact system! I love that they put the leaf shutter on that one too. I love that on the X100 series. It's one of the main reasons I'll always have one of those cameras in my kit. Thanks Adrian!

    Great videos. I'm interested in getting into the Fuji system and I appreciate your thoughts and perspective. Very helpful. Oh, and you look and even sound just like my barber!

      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      Ha! Oh man, that's great! (the barber thing!) Yeah man, the X100 series is a great camera, even if you're already shooting something else like Nikon or Canon DSLRs. Even with all the other great X-Series cameras that Fuji is creating these days, the X100/s/t is such a unique experience. Man, you'd love the leaf shutter - barely audible. Still makes me smile when I take it out to shoot. Anyway, let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Jon!

      +Ted Vieira Yeah, Louie (my barber) is a cool guy. I have a LUMIX GX7, which is great, but I really like the images and retro styling of the Fujis. I'm considering the X-T1, X-Pro2, and X100T. I know the X100T is a fixed lens, but how would you rate the three in terms of image IQ, usability, and just fun to carry and shoot with? Thanks again for the great videos and advice.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      Hey Jon, out of those three cameras, the X-Pro2 is clearly in the lead. That new sensor and processor, joystick and viewfinder make this camera so powerful with great IQ. Or if you like the X-T1 body style better I would wait for the X-T2. Then you'll have all the new features of the X-Pro2 in the body style you like. Man, the X100T is in a league all it's own. No matter what camera I use as my primary, I'll always want an X100 series camera to shoot with. With that hybrid VF and silent leaf shutter - man, I still think that's the best street camera around. Let me know if you have any questions along the way, and what you end up with.

    Hey Ted. Big sale on Fujifilm lenses and cameras. I get my gear at B&H. I see a 16mm f1.4 in my near future.

      +Michael Czahur Oh man, you're right, I just looked on B&H and there are some fantastic prices there. Yeah, this would be a great time to get that 16mm! The 56f1.2 is only $799, and good price on the 90mm too... Very tempting. I just ordered the TCL for the X100T this morning but unfortunately it's not on sale. Thanks Michael, let me know if you get the 16!

    Thanks for this, very helpful. One question: The green filter seems like an unusual choice. What's your reason for that particular setting? Why green, not red?

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Johannes Labusch Thanks very much, Johannes! Yeah, I know what you mean. I know red would probably be a more obvious choice - lighten skin tones, etc... For some reason I just really like the way the tones appear and the contrast of the green filter. Just one of those things where you take a shot with each of the filters and go, "Oh cool, I like that one!" :) Thanks again, Johannes!

      +Ted Vieira A good reminder that "the rules" are made to be broken. Thanks, Ted. I'll be sure to try it on some of my shots. One of the many great things about RAW, you can see the difference after the fact.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Johannes Labusch Yeah, that is one of the cool things about RAW! Do you apply any of the film simulations to your RAW files in Lightroom? (if you use LR) I'll usually add Classic Chrome regardless of whether or not I'm processing as color OR black and white. It gives those nice dark tones to the shadows that I really like.

    Hi Ted, great video, thanks!. If I may I would like your comments on two issues. First, regarding your xt1 companion, the X100T. Why have you selected that instead of lets say XE2 for more flexibility and use of the several lenses you own? I am struggling with this buying decision since I have an XT1 and several enses, but then a lot of buzz about X100.. Finally, you mention that you go darker in order to keep the ISO down, but that is exactly the contrary of the common "go to right" suggestion for keeping noise down in post. Could you expand on it? Thanks!

    Hi Ted, Just love your videos. I recently got myself an XT-10 with an XF18-55mm kit lens and have also bought an XF 35mm F2. Hoping to do some B&W Street work. Do you have any suggestions for me apart from the settings you mentioned in this video to get the kind of night & day pics that you get ?

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  7 років тому

      Hey Russell, thanks man! When I'm shooting street stuff, night or day I usually use auto ISO these days, then I just set the shutter speed and aperture to get the kind of look I want - whether it might be shallow DOF that I'm after, or I need to pay more attention to shutter speed for different kinds of shots. That can all change on a case by case basis, just depending on the kind of shots you're looking to get.

    We use very similar setting except for the variations I use in my custom settings. My C1, C2, C3 and C4 are dedicated to Classic Chrome. C5, C6, and C7 are dedicated to B&W. I setup C1 to C4 going from deeper shadows and strong color (starting with C1) to less contrast, less shadows and more desaturated colours (ending with C4). For the B&W group the idea is the same however, I use yellow, green and red filters for each one. I keep the strongest, more contrasty and more dramatic settings on C1 and C7 because it makes easy and fast when I need to switch from my favorite color and B&W film simulation. This way I just need to go one step back or forward with the selector. I'm very confident and relaxed with the auto ISO and WB. I keep the DR on 100. I also got a set of three Nissin i40 flash for Fuji (native TTL) but I find myself not using much since the cameras handle low light with mastery.

    • @TedVieira
      @TedVieira  8 років тому

      +Lome Roger Wow, nice setup! I can see how that could make things very quick to change your settings in one place - nice. How do you like the flash? I'm using my Canon 580EXIIs, but just for off-camera flash, and I shoot manual flash anyway, but there are times with it can be handy to have TTL.

    • @lomeroger4101
      @lomeroger4101 8 років тому +1

      Hi Ted! I sold my Canon heard but I kept my Canon 580EXIIs however I felt attracted to the "little" Nissan i40 because of its size as well as for the little constant list that the flash has. In reality the light is meant to be a video light and I was wondering if it could use it as a constant light, at least for positioning the shadows and than shoot with the flash bulb... I decided to give it a try and guess what!? It worked much better than I expected. In studio and on locations it is perfect cause I can kill the ambient light by closing my aperture without worrying about the precise position of my shadows and highlights. In this case, I don't even need to use the OVF to be able to see and focus. I keep using the EVF to see how my exposure and effect will be. If I really need more power for full body shots I use the Canon setup. When I use the i40s with my X100T I bring only one (usually for street portraits) and to use it off camera I use the FlashQ transmitter and receiver setup. It is very very tiny, inexpensive and extremely functional. As a conclusion, the Nissan i40 in conjunction with the FlashQ transmitter and receivers is a very good setup for my work.

      +Ted Vieira Hi Ted. The I40 is a very nice flash but when it comes to the Fuji X cameras compared to the version for Nikon and Canon and Sony, important features are missing. Zoom control, wireless Ttl, etc. are not available on the Fuji version.
