- 7 days to die is an extremely addictive game that when hooked, will keep you coming back for more. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with the vanilla version of the game, some aspects of the game-play may be slightly annoying to deal with, depending on your play style.
Luckily the fun pimps - who are the developers of 7 days to die, have openly encouraged fans to create and release mods that will give players more versatility and replay-ability. In this video I am going to showcase the 9 quality of life mods I always have installed before starting a new game in 7 Days to Die.

Vanilla does have a food and water bar. They are right under your toolbelt items. Very thin lines.

I like that a lot of UA-cam vids point out the same issue, but they are right about one thing: those bars are so dang small, you may as well be blind!
3:12 - You can disable the repair feature if you want (I don't like accidentally upgrading stuff, so I turn it off). There's some file in one of the mod's folders that you can edit with a text editor and disable it (you change something from "True" to "False", iirc).
I might actually need to do this. I repaired parts of my base to steel by accident during my last horde. That's super helpful thanks 👍

Good video. I use most of these mods. The GNS weather mod, just drop it in the MOD folder like the rest? That one sounds nice, the wasteland will be more enjoyable now. Also, maybe it will cut down on the rain in the desert. Some playthroughs I've done it rained everyday there.
Thanks mate. Yep! Just place the folder in with the others. I had another weather mod that stopped rain in the desert completely, but I like the GNS version more. The clear wasteland and less fog on horde night make it a winner for me. 👌

Another quality of life mod (at least to me) that I like to use is the "Pick Locked Doors" mod by aedenthorn. Any door or other things that are locked that would normally have to be destroyed can now be picked with a lockpick. I always thought that should have been implemented in the game natively anyway.
Oh that's a good one!! I haven't seen this mod around but now I want it. This may need to be in my next Quality of Life mods video 👍 great pick up mate.
You already have a food & water meter on your HUD, it's the *very* thin lines under your quickbar. I use a different HUD mod that groups Level & XP, Food, Water, Health and Stamina together - since getting everything except XP in the one spot annoyed me with other HUDs

Personally I prefer SMX to other UI mods as I love the redesigned concept it adds. I wish it had the books checkmark feature tho, it is also difficult to play other nods with it cause they need to add SMX compatible UI to run them together (research table is the one I had a problem with)

Is there any type of mods that remove the crosshair bloom(aim cone effect on guns? I just wanna aim and shoot not having to worry about spread and having to wait for the aim cone to tighten to actually use guns

that repair block.. 2 questions...can you use more then one? and say you have a cube of blocks. will it repair the ones you cant reach?
I haven't used the repair block a lot as I don't often get enough repair magazines to unlock it. It's pretty expensive to make so I'm not sure you would want more than one per base, however I can't see why you couldn't have more. They repair any damaged blocks within your claim area, even the ones you can't reach. As long as you have all the repair materials inside the repair block. 👍 it's a super handy block. While I was recording this video, I could hear the block repairing sections that I couldn't see.

I also use one that let's me craft arrows to bolts or bolts to arrows. Not sure if it is really quality of life but i know it annoys me to get steel arrows instead of crossbow bolts and vice versa.

Hello everyone. I have a question. Im currently playing 7d2d in my low end laptop and i cranked all the options to the lowest possible so i can reach an average of 30 fps. My question is: Will these mods affect my overall gameplay and fps? And secondly, are there mods to boost my fps?
Great question. I have pinned this just in case anyone else knows more. I would imagine mods won't affect fps as it's the hardware that creates the frames, but I'm not an expert at this topic. Do we have any game developers here?

@@brunomerkoSome mods will effect FPS. Some wont. I would read descriptions of the mods. Try them out. Note the FPS. Obviously if it decreases then drop the mod. But most QOL mods wont impact performance.

Does the HUD mod work with mods that increase backpack and chest slots?
The mods featured in this video? Yes. I had all mods running together and didn't notice any problems. However, installing mods always has the chance of causing conflicts. Worst case you may need to remove one to get the other working. Give it a try 👍
I wish there was a mod to let you:
1) fit multiple small items in the same block space, i.e. place small chests closer together (like Raft), place fences/ poles inside the same space to create a border, etc.
2) freely place small items inside a block space rather than it locking into position (i.e. place chests or fences in the centre of a block), especially since it already lets you do that w/ turrets
Not a bad idea. You could always ask one of the mod developers if they could do something like that. 👌
I'm pretty sure this is impossible, since it's a voxel based game and one voxel (cube) can only be one item. Like the thin walls, you can't attach anything on thin walls without the item floating in the air, because the thin wall has the exact same (invisible) space as every other block.
This makes a lot of sense. The block still occupies the same space regardless.
@@Rick_Jagger What about the turrets though? You can place turrets freely in the game - at weird angles inside a block space, between two blocks, with 2 turrets extremely close to each other, etc.
Also, I thought you *could* put decorations flush with walls (i.e. light bulbs, candles, posters, picture frames, etc)?
I also have turrets floating in mid air a lot of the time too. I think it's just a limitation with the system. It would be difficult to place unlimited 3D items in any possible position. You would need 3D rendering software just to Play the game.
I just installed 3 of these mods to my Gportal 7dtd server and now it won't load :( I tried to use Ocb Stop fuel waste, Quick Stac, and Craft from Containers. could it be the War of the Walkers mod making them not work?
Oh right! I haven't tried running any smaller mods with the large overhaul mods. I would imagine War of the Walkers has a bunch of custom files that could clash with additional mods. You are essentially trying to mod a mod. So it gets messy. Maybe remove one at a time to see if you can work out which one is affecting the game?
@@damnzambies i did and nothing worked. sadly some how my character was lost. started at level 1 again. not even sure how that happened as nothing really affected character save.. but I'm admin so np there lol

@@damnzambies lol its ran through Gportal. 15$ a month for 10 player slots. loading Mods etc is a pain but can be worth it. War of the Walkers plus a PoI mod has made it really fun. only got 3 to 5 of us that ever play. if u ever wanna try it out let me know PM and I can toss you info.

Some of my inventory has red frame on it today.
And when I use quickstack, things in those slot won't move.
I checked the mod page but I can't find why, seems like those slots got locked.

Red flame!? That's weird. Something is very wrong there. With quickstack, if you don't have items in your storage already, the loot doesn't know where to go. Try placing one of each stack in your storage and try again 😊
This is a locked Slot. Hold ALT and click any slots to lock or unlock them. Locked Slots (red border) will be ignored when you click the store button. BTW ALT + X is the hotkey to store anything with QuickStack.

We do not want to see hunger and thirst indicators as a percentage. Because it doesn't say on the food itself, "It satisfies your hunger by x%" or "It satisfies your thirst by x%." HUDs that show numbers rather than percentages are better for us to understand more easily.
I like the mod that allows you to disassemble ammo and swap crossbow bolts to arrows arrow to bolts

Hrmm i dont know if it bug on multi verisons on my 7dtd but the loot bags dont despawn in 5 minutes in my experience they just dont despawn.
I have had the same. I think the times are random (I could be very wrong though). The longer lootbags mod seems to give it a more predictable timeframe. I agree it's hard to test that though. I just feel better knowing that the bags won't disappear in the minimum timeframe of 5 minutes.
For those that will try this with a21 b16. Don't use quickstack. Doesn't work and crashes at "creating player" when loading world making it to lose all data about the character(level&items).
I definitely have never had that issue. Are you sure it's the mod?
@@damnzambies tested it again and again. As soon as i install/copy that mod files this happens everytime. The missingmethodexception method not found xuic_itemstack etc. Error appears and stops loading the world no matter how long you let it. No other mods were installed and it happens everytime.

Yea I was playing the latest game version and remembered about Quick stack. Downloaded the latest version from Nexus mods and it corrupted my Character profile.
I had the same problem, it come from the version of the mod. Nexus will make you download the lastest version which is Quickstack 1.6.4 and it's intended for the a21.2 exp version of 7d2d. You can manually download the 1.6.3 version (of Quikstack) which works perfectly well with the a21 b16 of the game.
When is 7 Days to die coming to Consul? The new updated version
A date hasn't been officially released by The Fun Pimps. However, there are whispers the new console version will come out with Alpha 22 in around 6 months. 😉

This game actually runs on a 6 year old laptop. Not even a gaming laptop. Its not pretty but its smooth. Great video and qol line-up.

I just want to point out, the vanilla hud does have food and water... it's just below the hotbar :P while hard to see, it is definitely there.
You are correct mate! This has been pointed out many times in the comments, although I will admit I never noticed the bars before making this video. ;) Thanks for the heads up.
To anyone having issues with this list, make sure you are not using the latest version of quickstack UNLESS you are on the latest experemental (21.2), the latest quickstack files WILL NOT WORK with the current stable build of 7 days (21.1)

There are two ways to have a third person view. The first is the way that I use, and that's to put your character into fly mode and go outside to get a third person view. @@damnzambies All the stuff on me disappeared, and my lvl got reset. I'll get it back using creative mode and commend though.
Most of the mods listed do alter gameplay. Things like not having to rush for the loot in horde nights, not having to gather resources to craft/upgrade or having blocks automatically repaired do alter significantly parts of the experience. Those are not quality of life mods.
I disagree. Mods like darkness falls change the game completely. But it's all about your preference in the end. Many people Think mods are cheating, so it's completely subjective. It's my opinion these are quality of life mods. But If you think they aren't, that's fine too. 😊
@@damnzambiesIt's kind of weird using an overhaul mod as Darkness Falls to disagree with how much you have to alter the experience to alter the gameplay, because it seems that the only way to alter gameplay in your view is actually changing the whole experience.
But anyway my point wasn't arguing the meaning of quality of life (although it would be nice if you could state your definition in the video if you know that people use different ones), but pointing out that some mods change the way you play so much they remove the need of certain actions/precautions, and that's a bit too much change in the gameplay to ingore it, at least for me. People should use them if they like it, of course, but just pointing out that they have more impact that they seem.

Yeah. I'm not a fan of Nexus to be honest. I much prefer to stick to 7daystodiemods.com 🧟♂️ my feature mod videos going forward won't include mods from Nexus. The good mods are usually found on both sites anyway. 👌
There are some great mods out there, but we need to remember that the modders are just tinkering with the base game files the developers have already produced. The modders aren't making the game from scratch. I think it's very brave to give the world access to your life work for free. And many of the best mods are rolled into the game. The amount of freedom we have with 7 Days to Die is rare 🧟♂️ especially in terms of UA-cam content.
None of these are necessary or even improove quality of life ...let me put it in another way

Some people find sorting loot and inventory management to be calming and relaxing, offering a change of pace and a time to reset between other game activities.
Others find inventory management to be a complete insult and waste of time activity that is energy draining and game experience destroying.
As someone in the second category, I do appreciate the refinements to maximize gameplay and get the most out of my limited gaming time.
Very true. Sometimes I find myself in either category. When recording for a video, I need every second to be productive so I don't have time to sort my loot all day. In my current series I'm not using a loot management mod, and I'm finding I can organise my loot much faster. Some of these mods are best for new players that want to cut down the grind a little. 🧟♂️
Half of these are just lazy mods... lol.
