      The Gobelin school is one of the (if not the) best 2D animation school in Paris (and in France too actually ^^). But it also means that to be accepted into it, you need to be GOOD. So even if initially it was meant to teach people about animation, now it's more students who already have a degree in animation (ranging from 2 to 4 years of practice, and I don't count the art foundation years) who come into that school to be able to freely create their films + get the school name on their resume. So yeah, "students" made these films, but they could be considered professionnals...
      That being said, I love watching their films, it's always a delight :D

      @@xana1406 They could be considered professionals, except they are not... I mean yeah ofc Gobelin is probably elitist, but still, these guys never worked in a studio, and their experience is quit limited.

      Well, I think if they're still studying animations then most likely they're not really professionals yet, even if they has some work experience. At least I guess so.

    I think "the clan" might be a metaphor for the cycle of violence the father has had to deal with his entire life. They ask if he thinks he can really escape it, and often times for people who live in environments with little opportunities, they can't. He wanted to hide that from his child so that they could have a better chance at escaping that cycle too, but it still caught up to him.

    • @ShadeScarecrow

    • @legina
      @legina 7 років тому +154

      I do not disagree with your message, but the fact is, that he wanted to stop to be a Yakuza for his family. "In case of breach of the code of honor, it is customary to cut one's finger and offer it to its leader. The prosthetic market is well developed in Japan, because Yakuzas who want to leave the organization and return to a normal life are constraints to erase their signs of former belonging to the mafia." well apparently he did not do it, so the other Yakuzas looked for him for killing him. Because that's the code. (and if a Yakuza did a real mistake, he had to do Seppuku).

    • @Wengier15
      @Wengier15 7 років тому +156

      I wonder if these guys really were Yakuza or just some random guys. Yeah, it looked like they were pulling out guns for the boy, but it wasn't shown if these really were weapons or just wallets. Maybe the father was so paranoid about escaping from violent life that his mind just snapped.

    • @DeathnoteBB
      @DeathnoteBB 6 років тому +77

      Cab Yeah, honestly if that was the intention this was extremely well-made. You can understand the fathers paranoia but with how easy the men went down you don't know for sure if the father is just that strong or they were regular dudes and his paranoia got the best of him.

      Because most Japanese studios are practically animation sweatshops. They mostly adapt the work of others (manga, light novels, etc.) and the pay for the artists is terrible that they must make quantity over quality to survive in the business. There's no comparison between the singular vision of passion and effort that is a student film to assembly line stuff like TV anime.

The fact the little boy wanted strawberry ice cream is such a small detail that I want to analyze all the layers of meaning behind the title. Great animation, but I thought the kid should bring the dad some ice cream at the end because that's what heroes get. Maybe the vendor would give it to him for free for beating up the bad guys. Robot was good, though.

    Another interesting thing i found. The Childs name is Kazuki. Kazu means peace in japanese, ki means enegy. Kazuki= peaceful energy. The mother and father wanted to simply live in peace. Even after her death, the father still lived a peaceful life. Ironically this peace was not achieved until he got rid of those making war with him.

    A child will make a difference to man who lived by rules of violence and activistm.
    The father want to leave a clan of yakuza to protect his loved family. End up being hunted by consequence. More than just rhetorically viewing, is a vivid portrayed message of how can a child change things and the consequences of things done.
