It's a tie-clip, keeps a tie from moving around. Beautiful work as always.
Thank you James. I had no idea what that thing was
I was watching and said the same thing!
I like it. I think a mix of paint and stain looks interesting. Never figured out why people think it’s their place to tell others what to do with their furniture. Talk about a 1st world problem.
Thank you. They would rather say something negative but never see them say something positive
I like a painted/stained combo. I usually try to leave the most interesting grain unpainted. I’m not a fan of a oool gray with the warm wood tones. I probably would have chosen paint in a dark chocolate colour….but as long as the customer paying for it likes it, that’s what matters most.
@@catherinebiermann7940 thank you so much for your input
It’s a tie clip
I thought so too.
I was just gonna say the same thing!
Thank you. I had no idea
Neat, efficient, effective and to the point. Love your videos!
Thank you. I’m glad you do
It's gorgeous. I prefer wood stain over paint, but it's not *my* dresser; I am sure it is everything and more that the customer wanted. Truth be told, my dresser is painted also, but it's veneer on a suite from 1968. It's what I wanted, and I love it AND saved it from the landfill.
Thank you so much for your positive criticism and sharing your opinion. Take care
You do good work.
Ultimately, you work for your buyer. The people who peek over your shoulder at your work on YT have no accountability to your customer.
I agree completely. Thank you for your understanding
I personally prefer oiled or lacquered woodgrain as opposed to paint, but it’s always interesting to see what other looks and combinations people can come up with. Nothing wrong with up-cycling and modernizing, and the final product here looks fantastic in any case.
The whole point of restoration to me, is that it’s a creative outlet - it’s an opportunity to reimagine these pieces, to make them your own, and to give them new life. The possibilities are endless, so why not explore them?
Getting angry about other people ‘not being true to the original’ or whatever is just dumb, territorial behavior.
Thank you so much. There are definitely a ton of ways to skin a cat and every approach is unique in its own right. Thank you
Hot happy with the base color, but the rest is fanstatic
I wasn’t either but in person it matches the handles
Nice! The grey handles was a meh for me, but everyone's taste is different! Don't bother with people being hateful, everyone do what they want with their furniture. Or their customers in this case! Love your videos!
Thank you so much Emma. I really appreciate it
They call that thing a tie clip. The patch looks Boy Scout. That came out dead sexy.
Thank you for the compliment and info on the stuff I found.
As always Samuel You Killed this...I too love the two toned look as I believe the Paint actually Brings the wood grain to life and makes it Pop....well done and you are absolutely correct with removing paint can be done If needed in future... actually paint removes Easier than stain...and Your clients Wants As they're Buying and going to Love this piece for many years to come is Extremely important as to What colors etc is done to their furniture...always love your work...hope your Thanksgiving was amazing with your family..stay blessed 🥰👍
Thank you so much for the compliment and understanding deb. I really appreciate your transparency
@@CedarPineDesigns always...Your work is amazing 😊👍
New Subscriber here. I like the way you work...and your explanations of each product/step. I think folks sometimes just look for things to get upset about. This turned out beautifully! Blessings from Texas! 🤠🤠
Thank you so the support and understanding. I’m glad you enjoy my work
I know this is an older video, and since I haven't yet watched all your videos, I don't know if you've tried it already. Try the Behr Alkyd paint, it's very similar to the paint you used but at a better price point. It can also be tinted to any Behr, Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams color.
Thanks for the tips! I actually started using BM acrylic enamel cabinet coat paint
Do you delete critique or comments that aren't 100% positive? Cause you mentioned getting som hate from people for painting midcentury pieces, but I can't seem to find a single one. Well... there's me, I'm the one, then... I'm sorry. I can't help it! It hurts my soul a bit when these gems get covered in paint, and they're not that easy to restore after either. The harsh machine sanding that burns through veneer, getting rid of original parts, spray painting handles and the use of synthetic paints/varnishes makes it hard to fully restore to its original state. I don't say it's impossible though, not just as easy that you make it sound in the video. But I totally understand you have to listen to your clients and what they want. Have a nice one!
I don’t delete anything. I leave all the comments
Yo Yo Yo Sam!!!! Finally getting some down time & first thing on my list was getting to this video. Already know it's not gonna disappoint. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Thank you brother I appreciate the compliment and support.
I wish people would stop with the judgmental attitudes as it relates to painting wood. Painting is a perfectly legitimate thing to do to furniture, especially when done right. The Egyptians were painting wood thousands of years ago. It's also sometimes the best solution for severely stained/damaged wood and veneer, or those of lesser quality that don't have an attractive grain. Plus, quality paint jobs (like the ones you see on this channel) look amazing. And like Samuel said, it can be removed in the future for a whole new look.
Not liking paint on a valuable/priceless antique is understandable, but a reflexive rejection of all paint on all wood strikes me as kind of silly.
Thank you so much for your understanding. I really appreciate it
Question for you. What sprayer do you use for paint and what size compressor do you have? I currently only have a small pancake compressor and for painting I use an airless sprayer, but it's kind of bulky to get into the small spaces and I want to go the HVLP route.
I use one from Amazon and it’s only like $40. I use a 10 gallon California air tool’s compressor. I have everything linked in my description
Bruh...$72 dollars an hour x 1 and done ✔ but filmed, scripted and expertly edited UA-cam video PRICELESS!
I appreciate the compliment
I really like this makeover. Customer had great taste and trust in you. Fantastic work. And that was a tie clip.
Thank you so much. I had no idea what it was
Wonderful job again. I like your comments about people being upset that you are painting real wood furniture. I see their point. However it is not Granny’s cherry wood credenza. The pieces you are painting is not antique furniture. Most appear to be from the 70’s era.
Exactly. Nothing antique and If I can save unique wood grain I will. Thank you for your understanding
I am new to old furniture and I absolutely love this.. I am just starting out and watching your videos are helpful. I am redoing some older end tables to start small.. I hope I can make some $$$ and have fun in my spare time.. I am almost 4 months smoke free. 😁😊
You are so welcome! Thank you for stopping by and I’m glad I was able to spark some inspiration in you. You’re going to have so much fun being creative and making a few bucks in the process
You find the most awesome pieces to begin with, and then you transform them into something truly beautiful.
I really appreciate the compliment Adriana
And then he covers them with paint... ;P sorry, I'm that one person I think he mentioned in the video that cries a little when these beauties gets painted. Ah well, to each their own.
I think you did a great job. If you hadn't made it desirable in today's market it could have ended up in landfill. Subscribed.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support
If you had used a spray on wood sealer on the leg assembly it would have had an even stain, instead of the blotchy appearance. You can buy it a spray, like spray paint.
I really want to get some. It’s called toner and it would have looked so much better with it. Thank you for your input
I would have painted the base and the legs in the same grey, since the wood is a different color there. Good work!
Thank you. That’s a great idea as well.
nice result and I know it was for a customer, but I stopped watching in real time when you mentioned paint.
That’s fine
That’s a magnificent piece and I like what you did to it. I watched earlier. Just watching again.
Wow. Thank you for the compliment and support
First... I think the 1974 patch looked like a boy scout patch (my thought) and the metal bracelet thingy is actually a tie clip. Second... this piece turned out beautiful. I am torn about the middle drawers being painted gray. That makes it almost look like 2 pieces of furniture side by side. I might have stained them myself. But I completely understand that was what your client requested. Overall... stunning!!
Do you clean your entire spray gun in between coatings and waiting for piece to dry until the next coat goes on? I just got one of those guns and I’m still learning how to use it
It depends on how long it takes for the coat to dry. If it’s a bit warmer you can leave the paint on between each coat. Just don’t forget it because it will need a deep clean
I watched this video because I picked one up exactly like it on a curb. Gave me an idea!! Thx
That’s so awesome. Glad I was able to help spark to ideas
Gorge. Do you use pre stain conditioner? I find it makes a big dffrence.
Thank you. I do use it sometimes depending on the application
"how dare you paint wood! Wood doesn't grow on trees!" -Everyone who comments
Exactly
It's A tie clip!
Thank you for the info
You should definitely wear a mask and gloves for that degreaser. im not sure what the exact chemicals are in the particular degreaser you used but a common degreaser has recently been associated with 500% increased risk for Parkinson's Disease and also a higher risk for certain types of cancer.
Thank you so much for the tip and your concern. I’m switching to dawn dish soap and water
@@CedarPineDesigns You're welcome. Health is wealth!!!
Hi quick question just found you, I furniture flip myself. I’ve been wanting to start a UA-cam, do you just use your phone to film and iMovie? Love your content! Thanks a ton!
Thank you 🙏 I do use my iPhone. I use the iPhone 14 pro 256gb and I use iMovie as well as InShot
@@CedarPineDesigns thank you so much!
@@carlagarthwaite4958 no problem
What are you mixing with the paint before putting it in the spray gun?
It’s just water
Great choice on painting the upper wood handles. It makes a huge difference and the combination of the paint color and stain is fabulous! Show stopper!
Thank you so much. I really debated wether to paint them or not and I to am glad to have painted them. T
You did an outstanding job! I’m not particularly in love with the colors/tones, but I know it wasn’t your idea, it was the furniture owner, and you’re right, the legs came out a different color. So those are my only observations. Again, please let me know which state you have your business to contact you for my furniture. Thank you
Thank you so much for the compliment. I’m located in California
@@CedarPineDesigns me too… in LA
@@SCSC-qz7rr nice. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area
I think the patch was for a boy or girl scout uniform.
That’s what I’ve been told. I think that’s it
That is a very interesting piece. Benjamin Moore is one of the companies that has excellent products. The dresser looks great. Any markings on the piece telling you who manufactured it? Carol from California
Thank you so much. The maker was basic whitz
@@CedarPineDesigns I didn’t recognize that name until I looked them up and found out they were bought out by Stanley Furniture in the 70’s. A name I do recognize. Stanley was making Spanish style furniture which was in fashion at the time. It was fairly good looking, make fairly well, but heavy for the guys to move. They particularly make a Spanish bedroom and DR set with a distressed green stain that was very popular. That set came in a brown stain too. Macy’s sold a lot of it.
Very different from the Mid-Century piece you worked on. Carol from California
@@caroltanzi29 wow! Thank you for all the great info. I had no idea.
Gorgeous! Love the two tone. Very classy!
Thanks so much!
Why did you use an oil based primer as opposed to a water based?
It blocks bleed through better the water based
I just bought this same dresser haha stripping it today
That’s so awesome. What do you plan on doing to it
Where do you find people to buy at a retail price??? Most sites people are not trying to pay that high of a price in my experience.
I just post locally and people gravitate towards them
Thanks for the reply
I was almost disappointed. I thought for a minute that you weren't going to leave any wood grain exposed. So glad you did this combination 🙂
Thank you so much Sarah. I had to keep what I could
@@CedarPineDesigns I agree. If you can save some it add so much beauty to the piece. I really have enjoyed watching your transformations 😁
@@sarahjoyce5041 thank you. I really appreciate that
Another great job! Where do you find these pies?
Thank you. I search Facebook, Craigslist and other local selling sites

Thank you
Very nice
What you called a little bracelet is actually a tie bar.
Thank you for the info
I LOVE walnut! You did great!
Me too! Thank you 😊
Gorgeous.
Nice looking piece.
What cleaner have you found works best to clean the greasy grime off old furniture?
So far I’ve only used TSP but I’ve heard great things about krud kutter and dawn dish soap
@CedarPineDesigns
Thank you for your response. After I watched this video, I watched a couple more of yours and you mentioned the TSP in every other one! I appreciate your reply!! Really like your videos and how clear and concise you are. Thanks!

So glad!
What a beautiful dresser!! I thought it was teakwood and surprised to hear it wasn’t. What a gorgeous design.
You always do such beautiful work with these old timers. Love the way it turned out.
The owner was happy and that’s great!! I bought a small dresser that was stored in a back shed after wiping it down and sanding it, I painted it a similar grey but the drawers, I painted a nice baby pink. I love it!!
Great work once again!!👏🏻👏🏻😍
Thank you so much pam. I appreciate the compliment and for you sharing your story
Ufortunately the paint did this beautiful MCM dresser no justice. It looked better before it was painted.
I’m ok with it
Very striking piece. Wood/paint combo looks great. Tie clip! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you 🙏
Really beautiful piece! The base and details of the original piece were pretty and you emphasized their beauty by painting parts of the piece. Thanks so much for sharing
Thank you so much. Not a problem
Beautiful paint and stain are perfect combination. It’s modernized
Thank you so much Rosa. I’m glad you like it
Something to consider. There is a barrier spray that I’ve seen Angie from Transcend furniture use. It saves the wood in further projects, when the pain is removed, it doesn’t go into the grain.
I’ll have to look into that. Thank you
Awesome job. Love that stain color. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Leslie.
תודה על הסירטון, אך בצביעה שעשית לא הפכת את זה למודרני.
