  • R.I.P. Johnny Crawford (1946-2021) joins his brother Robert for an Exclusive Interview filmed in 2018. We were blessed to be able to have them join us and now we share this exclusive appearance with their fans. Due to Johnny's early stages of Alzheimer's Disease, his older brother did most of the talking with Johnny jumping in when he was able. You can see that he was still alert and wanted to speak, but found it increasingly more difficult. Johnny and Robert Crawford, Jr, went on stage together at The Autry Museum in September 18, 2018, to share their early show biz adventures. In 1955, ages 9 and 11, the boys were asked to appear on a new afternoon network kid show to demonstrate their youthful fencing abilities. The series was "The Mickey Mouse Club" and marked the beginning of two successful careers. The Crawford boys both ended up in hit western series. Johnny, of course, was Mark McCain on "The Rifleman" with Chuck Connors. Bobby was cast as Andy Sherman, John Smith's brother on "Laramie" with Robert Fuller and Hoagy Carmichael. Ironically, both young actors received Emmy nominations the same year, 1959. We think you will enjoy the Crawford's together and hearing Bobby's own exciting journey. They were, and are, brothers of the saddle! Johnny is a dear friend and it is heartbreaking to see how the disease has ravaged the memories of someone with whom many of us have grown up. Johnny's family and friends have all been there for him. Thank you! Johnny's now gone and is roping and riding with his "Pa" in the heavens. Thanks for so many great memories. Rest in Peace, Saddle Pal.

In my years on earth, I swear that I have never heard anything negative about Johnny Crawford. He always seem to have that sparkle in his eye and that dazzling smile on his face. Those plus his memorable run on the Rifleman will be forever etched into television. He will be a television legend who will be missed. We all mourn together. RIP.

I watched my Mom go through the stages of Alzheimer’s. it breaks my heart to see Johnny face this. Not only does the Alzheimer’s patient need constant care, the family needs to take care of themselves too, because the stress has a negative effect on everyone. Praying for the family, and hoping for a cure soon for this horrible disease.

My Dad has early on dementia also he jest turned 81 in April. It’s a very tragic disease but I watched my uncle back in 2007 get a diagnosis of ALS. That’s one VERY TRAGIC DISEASE TO HAVE AND WATCH UR FAMILY MEMBER CANT DO WHAT THEY ALWAYS DID R TALK AND WALK. He passed less than a year from being diagnosed. He was only 61 at that time. He lived on the family farm up til he had to come stay at my parents house to take care of him and I helped. His mind was STILL THERE JEST COULD NOT TALK AFTER ONLY 6 months of being diagnosed. DONT wish these disease on any of my Worst enemies. Sorry to hear of your loss of your mother and will keep the Crawford’s family in my prayers. I jest came upon this today 10-11-2020.

I've loved the RIFLEMAN all my life. The way CHUCK & JOHNNY 's chemistry blended together was one of uniqueness. To this day, I still watch the show every day in reruns in Chicago at PM. When I found out last month that he past away, I broke my heart & I cried for this very special man. My mom died with Alzheimers in 2000. I'm 66 years old& finding myself forgetting things, can't find something, will get distracted when talking about something; all the things that JOHNNY went thru. As long as I live, I will continue to watch the RIFLEMAN, love JOHNNY CRAWFORD

I'm sad to hear of your Mother's passing😞.
      🙏❤️
I too, lost my mother two days after Christmas, in 2018.
She had cancer. She lived a good long life, 92 years, I miss her so much.
My 37 year old daughter passed away two days after Thanksgiving in 2022.
She got Covid, recovered, but had "Long Covid" symptoms for 2 years after.
The Top Seven Symptoms are :
      Shortness of breath
      Fast heartbeat
      Joint pain
      Hair loss
      Fatigue
      Chest pain
      Obesity
My daughter aged rapidly in those two years after she had COVID-19, she looked older than me, and she gained almost 200 pounds.
She could barely go to work, then home to bed, she was so tired 24 hours a day.
Her poor heart enlarged to twice the size it should be. It had to work so hard day in, & day out. It could no longer support her body, she had a Coronary Heart attack.
She was one of those American Hero's in 2020, that were working during the Covid -19 virus spread Nation Wide.
We stayed at home, but they all had the back bone, & courage to still work even though it was a deadly virus. They were so brave, keeping American's healthy, & fed while the whole country was staying home away from each other, to stop the spread of the virus.
Our heart's will always yearn for our Loved One's.
I am comforted knowing I will see them again one day.
For the moment we pass, we are in the very presence of our Heavenly Father. 😇🎚️🙏❤️

Lucas and Mark McCain embodied the father/son relationship I wish I had with my father. Watching the bond of love and respect which Chuck and Johnny portrayed in The Rifleman became my blueprint for what a man should be; Strong yet Sensitive. Thank you for the privilege of many of life’s lessons learned from the work which Chuck, Johnny, and all the good folk of North Fork brought to this lonely boy so many years ago! RIP JOHNNY💜 🤠

Similarly, Laramie embodied things, too: most important, that people thrown together by necessity and circumstances can bond as something of a family. This occurred twice on the show. Both Laramie and The Rifleman had one thing in common: often, their stories involved people who wanted and needed second chances and who just wanted to not be judged and move on in their lives.

You know what's truly heartbreaking ? Not really knowing a whole lot about a person, then, only 'months' after their very tragic loss, -becoming a truly ardent fan, - only learning just months, or even weeks after, - that the person you loved had 'just' passed away, only weeks before.
I know that you'll rest in truly a gifted peace Johnny. With so very many true fans and admirers of you and your work, along with so many people who really love you, - you could never do anything but.
    We'll all see ya later

I vaguely remember watching reruns on Saturdays in my gradeschool years in 1973. The opening scene with Chuck glaring eyes into the camera after firing the rifle always made me scared like I was gonna be next!! I would turn the channel immediately!! I started watching the show again as an adult,as its on MeTv weekdays and Saturdays. I have seen every episode and most more than twice. I keep hoping there may be an episode I missed but not so far. Johnny Crawford was a very talented actor from a young age. He was quite believable at such a young age. As he grew, the character maintained his youthful innocence. His pairing with Chuck Connors was almost like he Was Chuck's son in real life!! Child actors often seemed contrived and hard to believe as their character personna. For example, Family Affair's Buffy and Jody seemed like they were just reciting their lines, as did Arnold and Willis on Different Strokes. My 3 son's kids were initially in the same category but grew into their roles,as did the Brady kids. Johnny was unique in his ability to make you believe he was really a kid in a wild west setting. He rode horses for real, and his emotional scene ms were seldom corny or campy. Im an adult in my early 50s but I feel like Im a kid growing up along with Mark McCain when I watch the show. That is a magic that NO disease like Alshiemers can ever take away from him!! Johnny is now at peace and rewarded for his efforts making so many people happy who've watched him over his career !! God bless your soul and condolences to your family!!

It is sad to know that even someone who was successful as Johnny was, and due to the high cost of medical care for certain things that he needs to reach out and ask for help with it. My question is why is it so expensive to get the medical care he needs? There is something very wrong with that imo. My mother God rest her soul had started with the signs of dementia and Alzheimer's right before she died. It's a hard thing to watch happen and you try to find out all you can that can help the afflicted fight it. I grew up watching all the old western shows and movies because my dad loved them. My sympathy on your mom’s passing, to you. My own dear mom( blessings to my beloved mother & your mother too, in heaven!❤️) had dementia just before she passed as well. It is so heartbreaking to see. I want to add that you are so right about medical treatment & medication! I can speak from experience myself on that! A case in point, I had a prescription I was taking, prior to my husband’s retirement, that was “covered mostly by insurance.” I paid $30.00 each month to get it & necessary for me, just like medicine is for everyone. After my husband retired & before I got a supplement plan( still trying to get my husband PART B & beside myself w/ worry for he had a major heart attack prior to his retirement so no insurance for him) I went to pick up the same exact medication I desperately needed at “CVS PHARMACY.” I almost passed out & had the clerk at counter repeat the price 4 times to me because I kept thinking “THIS CAN’T BE CORRECT!” I must be misunderstanding what he is saying!” The cost for 30 day supply was:
“$1,050.00!!!!!!!!”😱They wanted to know if I wanted to “half the prescription” for 15 days for........$499.00???😳How ludicrous is “THAT?” Needless to say, I did not buy my much needed pills & did without until I could buy coverage but that cost is outrageous under any circumstances! Cost of good care, prescriptions, hospital care & nursing homes has totally gotten out of hand here on the United States ( been going on for decades now!) & “SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE...NOW!” So many are going without the care they need or medication they badly need, due to lack of money( my husband is one) & praying something is done past!!! I feel helpless trying to get my husband the medication ( we pay full price but Good RX prices still are expensive ,if you are retired & unfortunately on limited income!😥)he does badly needs. The whole health/medical system needs a complete overall”................ “ONCE AGAIN, I AM SO SORRY ABOUT YOUR DEAR MOTHER!” ❤️”God Bless!”

It doesn't just happen with dementia. My husband fought cancer. It took almost everything we had. There were months we couldn't even pay our utilities. Our house needs and needed all kinds of repairs and we didn't have any way to get them done. We got told to contact the American Cancer Society and that organization is a farce. They send you a list of places to contact and if you don't live in the right place, those organizations can't help you. The American Cancer Society doesn't help anyone other than that. I always contributed to them. I no longer contribute and always let people know about our experience so they don't waste their money either. Luckily our bank loaned us some money so we could go for his treatments and my local hospital gave me a part-time job so I could buy food.

I sent those to Johnny maybe 15 years ago through his fan page, he responded personally, and he got a kick out of them, told me he would share them with Bobby. I was only 13 at the time they passed through on the AJRA rodeo circuit.. Bobby started me playing harmonica and guitar. I doubt Bobbie would remember me, but I know he would remember his time with us in NM. I wish I could reach out to them now. I would love to contact Bobby, I know Johnny no longer replies. @@AWordonWesterns I hope Bobby reads here. Maybe he will remember they drove the Cadillac and horse trailer off the road heading south to Roswell. No one was hurt, they came back to Fort Sumner and ate breakfast at our house early in the morning, or late at night. They were sleepy eyed. That was in 1964 or 65. Then we all headed to Big Springs Texas to a rodeo. Where I ended up in the hospital with a broken leg. I last saw them when they visited me in my hospital room before they left Big Springs. I think they were really visiting my sister...lol.. and all the nurses were happy to see them of course.
Hello Bobby. If you read this. Hug Johnny for us, and you too. you guys were so kind and down to earth. My folks are gone now, but my sister and I will never forget your brief friendship. I watch you on Laramie now, and the rifleman is on every day on one channel or the other. Always fun.

I can't tell you what a thrill it has been to watch this interview. I am a newcomer to watching The Rifleman. I am going to be getting two knee replacements and I have had to spend many hours sitting in my recliner with splints on my knees to make them straight . I discovered The Rifleman through me TV. The Rifleman has gotten me through many hours discomfort but I am comforted and distracted by watching this wonderful TV show. I have even gotten my 17 year old daughter into watching the show too, plus my husband. I lost my grandmother to Alzheimer's and my dad had dementia, so I know the pain of watching someone's memories disappear. As soon as I can I'm going to donate to Johnny's GoFundMe page. Hopefully Johnny's brother's show will come to me tv and I will become acquainted with it as well. Thank you Johnny Crawford for helping me through my time of pain with my knees. May God find a cure for dementia some day. Johnny Crawford you look like the nicest person in the world. You have an awesome brother too, who looks like he looks after you and loves you with all his heart!

I'm not as familiar with Laramie and wasn't aware of that Bobby was Johnny's brother. The few 'Laramie' episodes that I have seen I really enjoyed and could not imagine anyone else playing any of the roles, so I'm glad that Mr. Fuller held out to get that the role that could only be filled by him. 'The Rifleman', of course, was part of my childhood experience as it's been in reruns almost continuously throughout my lifetime. Who didn't love Johnny Crawford as Mark McCain, marvel at his acting skills, and wish that we had a dad as brave and upright as Lucas McCain? I know that Johnny's struggle is with a progressive disease and was really worried what I might see and hear in this interview, (my grandfather shared a similar fate) but was pleased to find him clear in his interaction and recollection at the time of this taping. Clearly, the brothers the best of friends and I'm happy to know that Johnny has Bobby in his corner and that their bond remains solid. I know that two years have passed and things have changed, but thank you for giving us this interaction and the chance to see Johnny once again.

This is Awesome!! Brother's coming together again! This is amazing & I so appreciate you sharing this with us! I must say, this Alzheimer's disease, it just absolutely Angers me to no end!! I know we all get old & deal with pains & aches of getting older, such is life. However, this one, Alzheimer's in particular is just so horrific to me. Like robbing us of our very lives we've lived even while we are still breathing! These loved ones, our elders, have been there & done that. They just have (in my opinion) one of the very best gifts life can bestow upon us & that is the Wisdom of those who have gone before. Life's hard knocks University! Yes, we all grow old & have ailments & our old bones creak just a tad, or maybe a lot. Life is constantly changing & we make room for the youngsters & so forth. Its just a crying shame that one of the greatest resources of life, of this world is our Elder's & this disease rapes the Victim's & leaves us with empty vessel's to care for. So, so sad & angers me greatly. This just should not be, just a crying shame. Not only does it rob us of their wisdom but it robs our elderly of their lives & memories that could have been formed in the twilight years. With grandchildren & even great grandchildren. They are still living & within reach but unlocking that stored potential has baffled us thus far. I hope & pray that a cure would come soon. I tell ya, the look on Johnny's face a couple times there was just precious.☺️ You can see the twinkle in his eyes as he so desperately tries to get the words out! Just sad but extremely endearing as I watched his 'big brother' take the lead in telling the stories. What a good interview & so glad you were able to get these brother's together for what is truly a blessing for us to see. Thank you so much for posting this Mr. Word, thank you indeed. My prayers go out for these very talented brothers & their families & for you too & these interviews. I feel as if they are a labor if love. It appears that they not only bless us, they are encouraging to the many who are being interviewed. They enjoy telling us the stories & reminisce as they share. That means a lot.👍 These gems of video may not seem that much to some but their wealth, I feel, will be revealed perhaps long after we are gone. Keep up the good work. 👍😉
    Bless you.
