also, 2004. Half-life 2, Unreal tournament, far cry, Halo 2, GTA san andreas, WoW, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, and many more games. The 2000's was the BEST decade for video games EVER, there will never be something like it ever again. Absolute peak.
Burnout 3 takedown too. seriously impressive looking game for a 2004 and still has better destruction physics than most racing games today (Probably for liscensing reasons but still...)
While not exactly 2007, 2008 was what I argue was the turning point of indie games going mainstream. Microsoft's XBLA Summer of Arcade was a huge turning point for indie games, because it was the first time indie games got top billing by a major publisher, where they showed off Braid, Castle Crashers, and Geometry Wars. World of Goo, Audiosurf, QWOP, and Mount and Blade also came out that year. That period of time was wild for gaming.
I’d argue 2004 was the best year in gaming Halo 2, Half Life 2, Pikmin 2, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, & Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater just to name a few Name more if I missed any
It's always a good day when my favorite UA-camr releases another banger video using more banger music. This day is even better cause I just finished my exams and now am on Break :D (Thank you Htwo)
Plus infamous 2, Bastion, and driver san fran. Pretty good line up. My personal fav is 2012 tho, Dishonored, Walking dead, Far Cry 3, Xcom, Spec ops the line
Also Mass Effect 2, Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Gears of War 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dead Space 2, and the Metal Gear HD collection and Ocarina of Time HD - not separate games, but remasters of amazing ones
2009 had Angry Birds, Assassin's Creed 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Bayonetta, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age Origins, Uncharted 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Infamous, Halo 3 ODST, STALKER Call of Pripyat, Plants Vs Zombies, X-Men Origins Wolverine and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
To recap 2024: A player named IFC Sairyou has managed to defeat the Hardest Boss in all of gaming after 12 years since the boss’s release. NES Tetris players have achieved the “Rebirth” screen Someone got Borderland’s rarest drop this year I managed to get a potential but uncertain world first myself Along with many other amazing gaming achievements this year! What a ride!
IDK I think the topic is more contentious than "2007 is inarguably the best." 2019 had Sekiro, Baba is You, Outer Wilds, Katana Zero, A Short Hike, etc. 1998 had Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Pokemon Red/Blue, Half Life, Baldur's Gate, etc. 2004 had GTA San Andreas, Half Life 2, World of Warcraft, Halo 2, Rome Total War, etc. Hell, even the year I was born had Planescape Torment, System Shock 2, Super Smash Bros, Age of Empires 2, and Roller Coaster Tycoon. All either critically acclaimed, incredibly influential, or cult gems. I also don't think the staying power of the games mentioned is inherently a good thing because this was right before some of the worst trends in gaming would start to take root and flourish (excessive serialization and micro transactions come to mind) and I think 2007 was more the last year of the "old guard" of game design (and arguably the last year of consistently good triple A game design) more than it was a herald for positive future influence.
Halo ruined the shooter genre. Making you cower in cover to reload ur health rather than med packs scattered around or any other mechanic that makes you engage with gameplay rather than literally making you do nothing. I do agree those are some banging years tho, 2012 is my personal fav.
Not sure if 2007 was the best year in gaming history, but it was a pretty dang good year with some really good stuff that I liked, such as Halo 3, Unreal Tournament 3, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Painkiller: Overdose, and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. Fun times.
I would not call 1998 the best year in gaming history, but it had some awesome stuff like Unreal, Half-Life, Starsiege: Tribes, and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.
2007 is my pick too but honestly honorable mentions go out to 1998, 2004, and 2011 imo all those years have earth shattering releases but I don’t think it quite stacks up overall. 98 for Ocarina of Time and Half Life is insane in terms of sheer industry impact imo, the waves those two games have to this day seriously can’t be overstated
I would have said 2017 as it had Mario Odyssey and hollow knight, A hat in time, Zelda breath of the wild, cuphead, night in the woods, Little nightmares, Brawlstars, persona 5, crash bamndicoot the trilogy, Bendy and the Ink machine, Doki Doki literiture, resident evil 7 , Mario cart 8, Rocket legue, Binding of Issac after birth, Assassin's Creed Origins, Fortnite, Horrizon, Rain world and of cource the creation of the nintendo switch! And so much more! In my opinion some of the best games ever made and it's also surrounded by years with great games! Year ago Undertale, year before that Fnaf, year after God of war 2018, 2007 may have had good games and amazing games that have inspired other games, but 2017 had the games that stood out and I garrantee you one of these are your top favourite games of all time! These games also have graphics that sometimes are outstanding! And will probably outlast 2007 games
Too bad I missed out on this year and 2004 (I was born in 02 but mostly grew up on halo reach.) at least from what I remember. 2007 also had The Burning Crusade expansion for world of Warcraft. 2007 and 2004. Times I will never get to experience, and times that will never be recreated.
For me it will always be 2018: Detroit become human, Hitman 2, Assassin's creed odyssey, God of War, Spider-Man and of course Red Dead Redemption 2. All great games with amazing stories.

Me personally it depends. Its better to classify them in eras. I think fps died after battlefield 1 and can be argued with titanfall 2 being a year earlier. They were the pinnacle of their genres with battlefield 1 being very enjoyable an somewhat accurate. While titan fall was the best movment shooter and revolutionized the industry. Older times were good for AAA gaming but indie gaming has blossomed and wouldnt if these companies didnt get worse.
