Awesome videos! I own Standard Libelle #27 that still has the fixed gear, SL is amazing good work! great videos i know how much work they take, keep it up! stop flying in mini tornados! Curious, where is a good source for libelle performance modifications? aileron and rudder improvements as well as zig zag tape modifications...??? if you're ever in California and want to hit up the sierra Nevada let me know! I had 22 knots on the average climb a while back, you ready?
Hey Josh, thank you! The best modification of your Libelle would be a retractable gear ;-) I have installed a smaller tail wheel to reduce some more drag. I don´t know if there is anything to improve the aileron behaviour, but perhaps the winglets will help a little bit. I also have installed the zig zag tape at the lower side of my wings, but there are different opinions if it really helps to improve the performance. 22 knots on the average climb is at least as bad for the glider as flying in my (very) mini tornado :D
Stefan Langer thanks for the information! I like the stock setup and the history of the fixed gear/early standard class ships. I tuff tested the rudder and it’s stalled completely past half deflection, that would be nice to improve. I was going to look into the lower wing surface turbulators, above 75 knots I hear things fall apart down there.

Sehr schönes Video. Und als Abschluss die Abendlandung. Es gibt nichts genialeres, als "oben" den Sonnenuntergang zu genießen und unten fahren die Autos mit Licht.
Aber einen Mini-Tornado so nahe anzufliegen ist schon sehr sportlich. Auch ein kunstflugtauglicher Flieger hat seine Grenzen... :-)

Yes, something between 12 - 15 m/s and it was a mini tornado or funnel cloud. So no dust ;)
Nice! That sure must feel "bumpy".
PS: Dust-devil is by definition the name for a mini tornado (even if on water no dust required).

Once when with my paraglider one of these funny things lifted me off take-off and unceremoniously spit me off downwind. Seeing you having fun in one is awesome. Videos like yours make me want to transition to gliders. Thank you for sharing these videos!

In this video I flew a Std. Libelle, which costs about 15.000 € to 20.000 €. But it's an old 45+ year old glider and you can still have lots of fun with it.

Genau so hätte man es gerne öfter. Nicht einmal in Namibia hatte ich so starke Steigwerte :D
Bin an dem Tag genau da geflogen, hab das auch gesehen! Aber mit einem alten Twin und guten Respekt vor solchen Wetterphänomenen habe ich mich dann (leider) doch nicht rein getraut. Grüße aus EDMU. :)
