@@RetroSpectives man, they really must have. They programmed us into thinking, "I want what those chimps are drinking." Lol. So creative. All the adverts were back then. It's definitely becoming a lost art. Although, I get that we shouldn't be doing this kind of stuff with animals anymore. I had no idea that the Chimps had problems in later life. That was sad to hear.
You are very welcome! It was nice this time to be able to feature comments from a few different platforms. I don't usually get much response on twitter.
With seasoned insight, I'm just as alarmed at the potential danger to handlers and technical crew. Chimps are very powerful and can be prone to petulant and jealous rage. There are numerous UA-cam uploads on the theme of chimp attack.
"Ah Seamus, I hear they're looking for a good man with a pick, to dig the channel tunnel!".... I wonder how all of this compares with the harm done to chimpanzees during NASA's early space flight experiments, or the Soviet Union's experiments involving dogs and other animals in space. I guess we'll never know the full extent of the harm done (except for the Russian dogs, whose lives were taken in the name of science) to any of the animal victims. At least now, we live in (hopefully) more enlightened times. Even so, chickens have been hatched in space, and kittens traumatised by zero gravity, as recently as the ISS.
I can't begin to image the harm and abuse that goes on worldwide, behind closed doors, to animals (and humans too, for that matter). I wish we could all just treat each other with dignity and respect.
@@RetroSpectivesThey sure we're Retro Spectives ! Maybe PG tips could find a way to bring them back and make new chimp adverts using either CGI or puppets and make them in the same style and humour of the old chimp adverts.
@@RetroSpectives Not forgetting another series of PG tips adverts featuring birds 🐤🐦🕊️🐓🐔 made using claymation which reminded me of the TV series creature comforts, but those adverts and the Johnny Vegas and monkey 🐒 adverts were good, but they weren't as iconic as the ones with the chimps but I'm guessing the chimp adverts were stopped because of animal rights, but if they go with my idea I suggested in my previous comment it could boost sales of PG tips and people could bask in nostalgia.
They were great comical adverts.
It was master stroke from from PG Tips.
I bet they made an absolute fortune in profits as a result of those ads over the years.

To be fair, it was news to me too. It would be nice if the PG Tips company shared a little of those decades of profit with the chimp sanctuaries.
Fabulous!! Interesting about animal interaction.
Yay, my comment was mentioned! That's made my day - thanks, Steve 😊❤️
Awesome video! 👍

I loved them adverts in the 80s
They were a massive part of our culture for such a long time.

We did get the Johnny Vegas / Monkey (soft toy puppet) adverts afterwards.

An advert that says it's only fit for monkeys.
👍
Was a good joke, though. 😂
@@RetroSpectives glad you liked it.
Humans and monkeys are kind of similar in some ways now that I think about it.
