I had these adverts on a video when I was a child. I would watch them over and over again for hours, especially if I was sick. I would make myself a bed on the dining room floor and watch them on the TV we had in there I love these adverts. When I need to smile I come find them

I remember most of these as a kid rolling around with laughter very entertaining, but looking now and it makes me wonder how much manipulation and abuse these chimps had to endure 😢
I remember some of these TV ads from years ago. However there is one missing which is the one where Shirley buys the pyramid shaped tea bags from PG Tips and after enjoying a nice cuppa Geoff says "Say Shirl, these pyramind bags make a Pharaoh cuppa, pyramid?, Pharaoh? Ha ha ha!" And Shirley cringes in embarrassment and puts her hands over her face.
John Rinder you can also hear the voices of Su Pollard and Caroline Quentin in these ads and apparently Miriam Margolyes as well, although I don't know which chimp Miriam voiced.
Who remembers the mountain climbing one where they got hit by an avalanche, and one says "hold on Simon" " I'm OK, tents ruined " surely I never imagined that one
I have the fridge magnets with Geoff and Shirley. Those ads were the best on TV and we all enjoyed them. The monkeys had fun too despite the animal lefties here complaining.
We have PG Tipps tea here in the USA and it’s a very refreshing tea! The old ads with the chimps are quirky and cool. Way better than the sock monkey used in modern ads. The Ada and Dolly ads and Maternity Ward are my favorites

I remember one from, around the late 70s/early 80s, where the chimps were climbing a mountain or skiing or something in Scotland and an avalanche wrecked their tent, so they had to buy a new one. I can still remember the "joke" at the end: "Ye'll be needin' a big bag for yon tent Jimmy?" "No thanks, we've got 72!"
Why cgi? The original chimps loved acting. Saw a documentary about the trainer and owner of the apes, he made the USA tv series Lancelot Link Secret Chimp before Pg Tips found him.

For those who are capable of rational perception and basic logic, the only real problem with Ad #1 is that the tune is only three notes away from being a commercial for "salt peanuts"! The golden era (so to speak) starts, in this comp, with Ad #3 - and then the highlights pour forth as if from a filled kettle...04:06 the Channel Tunnel, 05:00 the French grand pricks, 05:28 Mr Shifter (he said carefully), 05:56 the M.O.Tea, 06:28 Mr S Bend, 08:21 trouble with his trousers, 08:50 Robin Twickers, 09:49-11:26 aha, here we have "Kelvin's favorites", meaning "My name is Bond, Brooke Bond"; 13:10 the microwave, 14:07 Dogger Bank... But of course this isn't a complete collection - no sign of "Papa's got a brand new bag" (ua-cam.com/video/NCLzBOMft_s/v-deo.html), parents (ua-cam.com/video/-FJwXXEqQ5Q/v-deo.html); or the last one to mention Mr Bond aka "this machine's gone ape", plus two instalments of The Wapping Great Company...and some more.
In the advert where the chimp is playing the piano, The chimp was using a real piano in rehearsals, But in the video they used a fake piano for safety . Unfortunately because the piano was fake it made no sound so the chimp wouldn't play it. 😂

Was telling my 15yr old about these ads ... she couldn't believe they were real chimps, but loved the tongue in cheek comedy. (I also introduced her to "Carry On" films a few years ago.)👍🏻 We both said that updated CGI versions would be a great idea!
