Enjoyed this video because I just bought a 2015 991 Targa 4 GTS last week for all the reasons you said....life is too short...normally aspirated etc. I absolutely love it. It's as fun to drive at 30 mph as it is with full on sports plus engaged with the foot buried. It's always been a dream of mine to own a 911 - an itch that just needed scratching and I am not disappointed. Enjoy your videos btw!
Congratulations! Enjoy it! Thanks for watching too
have you had any issues with noise with the roof down?
Enjoying the extra production effort, camera angles etc... You've done a good job! Cheers
Thank you
Anything with a targa top (or similar) is automatically awesome in my books
I agree
Agreed
Yea, I love my TVR Tuscan for that reason..... and the noise!
Definitely!
I loved my Turbo Tomcat until I took it flying into a field.
Personally I think the targa is absolutely beautiful, they are quiet rare so obviously not loved by Porsche buyers as much, I see 911's everyday and really like them but if a targa pass me by I certainly notice it more and really admire it and think to myself wow not seen one of those in a while
Great review. Beautiful 2015 carmine red one for sale at Cridfords. Previous owner, (has his own Porsche orientated YT channel) kept it for only 4 months!! Does this particular model tend to have a few owners?
I think all cars of this type tend to have had more owners than you’d expect. For many they are bucket list cars and people soon get bored of them or cannot afford to have them sitting in their garage not used
Brabus104 Does when the owners are trying to keep up with the Joneses, and can't make the payments!! Know the channel you talking about.. Renowned BSer lol
Frank Poole...lmao... That guy takes the no 1 spot!!
@@frankpoole9227 Who could you be talking about!! 😂 👍
@@HighPeakAutos "Shark Attack in Scotland - Fisherman Saved By His Shoe"
Great summary.
I think even the cows were impressed with the folding roof 🤣
Haha I think they loved it
@@HighPeakAutos The cows certainly got their walk-on parts off pat, but as to the folding roof...think it's still a moo_t question...
Forget the car. They stole the show
Porsche is going through an golden age at the moment, they can’t put a foot wrong, I remember in the late 80,s early 90,s they went to Audi and Mercedes with cap in hand begging for help just to stay afloat, hence the Audi RS2 and the Mercedes 500E, they even did some work on the old Seat Ibiza if my memory serves me right, how things have changed.
Thats right. They've come a long way since then. I think their SUV's have helped them out of the financial hole a great deal
@@HighPeakAutos. Your a good and honest reviewer, and haven’t falling under the Porsche spell, keep up the good work and you’ll never be out of work,
@@Shane-zx4ps thank you
System porsche
@@liamcinq ha ha yeah, great memory dude..
I drove a 997.2 Carrara S back-to-back with a 991.2. Carrara. I'd take the 997.2 every time. Slightly smaller and lighter, along with hydraulic steering meant it felt like a proper sportscar. The 991 felt like an excellent GT.
Carrera.
1:56 watch the cow next to the brown cow (on the side nearer the Porsche) as “makes you turn your head is said”. Perfect timing Matt!
*speech marks after head not said😂
Hahah well spotted
Also the full stop comes before the end quote marks.
@@wernerdanler2742 hahaha yes - I’ll redo the whole comment: 1:56 Watch the cow next to the brown cow (closest to the Porsche) as “Makes you turn your head,” is said.
There we go😂
@@automotivania Brilliant! Lol
Am I allowed to say that this is probably the best of the breed truly a spectacular car
That subtle smile when you floored it around 3:06 says it all ... Always like your genuine reviews.
Thanks!
Can see why folk like them, the shape and styling , impressive mpg too. Nice one Matthew.
Out of all the cars in this bracket. This has to be my favourite of them all.Absolutely love them.
I’ve always wanted a targa and finally got one. My previous car was the F-type and before that a Cayman. The jag definitely got up and went quicker because of the super charger but the targa gets a lot more nods on the road.
Great video Matt. Here in Australia, 911s are ridiculous money. The great thing is that where I live, cars don't rust if kept in a garage, although the sun can kill paintwork if they live outside. That 991 is lovely, but while I can afford one and I am fine with driving a 10 year old 911 as a daily, I think I may find more enjoyment going back to an air cooled 80s or early 90s model for weekends and having something sensible like a Camry as a daily driver. Its a bit of a dilemma.
Thats quite right. You’ve got to be in the right mood to drive something so loud and stiff
Im not a Porshe fan but ive seen a couple of these 991 targas recently and i must say they look gorgeous and the rear looks quite modern but classic imo.
Can’t believe you’ve got 190 comments already!! Wow! Well done. Few observations:
1. Your High Peak T shirt! Nice!
2. You made us wait 10 mins for the party trick! Keeping that audience till the end - like it
3. 10:34 - where did those little covers appear from?!
4. Spot on review - the thinking mans sportscar (esp. as a standard c2 or similar - although I would want a manual)
Haha thank you! It’s having a good response so far. Yes I agree about those covers, they appeared from thin air. Thanks for watching
I never got the "Porsche" brand until I worked on the newer models. Absolutely fantastic. Huge fan now. Just love them.
Refreshingly frank as always. I love the fact that you didn’t change your constitution by the end of the video. Good on ya Matt.
My two German Shepherds find the rear seats very accommodating.
They have ridden thousands of miles in them..
Lucky Alsations 😆
I absolutely love it. Watching the roof in action was like a work of art. Just the look along is beautiful.
Glad you liked it!
@@HighPeakAutos evening mat my name was south london i was the car trader from the south we spoke in the past on your older videos I changed my profile name to my proper name
Excellent video as usual that particular model does look fantastic the roof mechanism reminds me of my mx5rf that I had last year..and who knows maybe one day I'll get myself one keep up the good work cheers Phil from Newark
I use to think the 997 was the perfect 911 but this is a massive upgrade
Jersey cow was a nice touch.
Now we're talkin!! My brother has a '17 plate Targa4S , when I asked him why he didn't buy a Turbo, he said he didn't want to die in it lol. Its fast, serious quick in Targa form
I agree! That's why I'd go for a less powerful model
@@HighPeakAutos he's got the little manettino on the steering wheel with some sort of Knight Rider mode, goes even quicker!
7:36 That's a nifty drone up front. Hilarious reference to an ironing board :).
The best part is cow's love it
I don't think that cow was too impressed with the roof opening mechanism
What a fantastic car and great video. Never had a Porsche or driven one but they do look very very nice - particularly that targa top and the way the roof goes down.
Cheers Matt for another excellent vid.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow just wow 🤩😱 absolutely love this channel mat, I love the old skool look Porsche are giving their newer cars these days, look absolutely stunning definitely a car on the bucket list, should visit the Porsche dealership in Stockport near Tesco, always baffles me how they decided to open a Porsche dealership next to a Tesco near a busy junction
Hi Mat, any cars you were looking forward to driving, but didn’t live up to your expectations and any cars you weren’t keen on driving, but were better than your expectations.
All good videos, thank you
Interesting to see this. Have had a 991 c4s for a year (8 yrs old) now and simply the best thing I have ever driven. Not too pricey to maintain (use a good indie specialist) and have a warranty for piece of mind. Come from AMG, XKR and and M6 competition and from an ownership and driving exp just craps on them. Met a certain club group last week and v dull but then a couple of nights ago went to a meet with 60 cars and a great bunch of folks from all walks of life. Porsche for life for me from now on...! Forgot to mention its gone up in price by £10k so for once getting no grief from wifey ;-)
How do you always upload the cars that are quirky and that I'm interested in, it's so consistent. This is one of my favourite cars, yet so many don't even know what they are!
Haha I don’t know. Maybe it’s luck
@@HighPeakAutos the only problem is the names are getting a bit silly in length now. The 991 911 Targa 4 GTS?
@@TheAdWrighty haha I know. Porsche geeks love all that though
Excellent review, really thorough and comprehensive. And very well shot and edited video. Great information imparted in an entertaining way. Much appreciated. 👍
Thanks for watching!
I’m glad I’m not the only who thinks that a flappy paddle gearbox is better than a manual in certain cars
They are definitely. If they're a decent 'box - like this one
Especially for daily driving the car, I'll take those paddles every time.
pdk was the only choice when i bought mine - best transmission i have ever used
A very fair review. As I own a 991S, you hit the good and bad very well. These cars are ridiculous to maintain. Brakes and tires are ruinous. But, I can't imagine driving anything else. Color determines how under the radar you fly. Mine is Miami blue, which gets a lot of attention, good and bad. Every kid in a WRX or a souped up Nissan wants to drag race you at stop lights. On the plus side, some females like them.
Miami blue is a beautiful colour
Great video mate, any chance to have an Audi A6 featured ? The C5 or the C6 version preferably ?
Bought my at beginning of lockdown. 8yo. Good spec. Love it. And the air con is better than my Q2.
Man I really hope you receive more premium cars like this, probably one of like 3 reviewers who are worth staying for the entire vid for. Keep it up
Thank you! I appreciate it
I think this is probably one of the nicest looking models since Porsche ditched the whale tale.
Definitely think the ordinary 997 Carrera or Carrera S was the best Porsche to own.
It was classy conservative vehicle and normally aspirated.
Porsche is a bit common now.
For something more exclusive I would opt for a Lexus LC500 V8 now.
I'm completely with, Matt. I like the Porsche but I don't want to own one. When I hit my mid-life crisis (still ongoing), I plumped for a Bentley. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. As you said, for me, it was a value decision. I could get a lot more car, with a lot more practicality (and space) for a lot less money. Sure, it will depreciate more and cost more to regularly service and maintain but I understood that going in. I also didn't want to look like some sad old man, having a mid life crisis - although I am. Thanks for sharing.
Nice comment, John! I feel the same! ;)
Matt you’ve answered my Question
DBS / AMG Gt v Porsche totally agree great review
I am no a huge water-coooled 911 fan, but if I was ever tempted a 991 Carrera 4s Targa would be the only one that I would choose. Better looking car by far than the regular coupe.
Good vid Matt.
Another great video, I really want to see some sort of Maserati on this channel, preferably the Ghibli
Me too
You’ve outdone yourself and just look at the high peak weather this last week !!!!. Left Poynton / Bramhall for Bournemouth week Friday gone. Home sweet Cheshire tomorrow.
Sounds great!
Great review Matt, always entertaining and informative 👌
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
3:21 here is Matt doing ‘some’ miles an hour! I’m like you Matt, never been that bothered about 911’s but probably one to tick off the list in due course. 👍
Yeah exactly
Totally agree.
When I test drove a Panamera (Porche’s luxury offering) it was noisy and hard - settled for a Range Rover (the opposite).
I’d buy that so I could watch the roof movement! Fantastic engineering. Another honest, informative review Matt, thanks.
It’s a piece of art
Nice motor Matt.
Excellent review, fair and unbiased opinion.
Evolution does sometimes beat revolution- the 911 has seemingly evolved really nicely through the years - do think Porsche now do a fantastic job with their interior quality and design . I’d love a 997 targa 4s at some point
Thank you for that Matt. Even though I love Porsche's, it's great to see a review from someone who is not a 'fanboy'. Although.. is the 'Binocular' button not actually a picture of a twin Exhaust??? 🤟
I think the binoculars button looks more like a twin exhaust which probably makes more sense.
One of my favourite current cars. If my back wasn’t so bad I would buy one
“That is............................pretty quick!” 😂😂😂😂
i can hear him thinking about whether he should say out loud his illegal speed and if he could get into trouble :D
4:44 the cow seems to dig the car. Very important when choosing a car. Cows have to be attracted to it 😆
Love the targa, both the classic and the new model, simply beautiful. Saw one today, crayon with a red targa top, simply stunning!
They just look way more special than the coupe or convertible
@@HighPeakAutos exactly, they’re unique. The targa mechanism is incredible, there was a small huddle of people stood around watching it!
Love the Targa look but the clear tail lights are very "last decade" eBay Chinese add-ons. Maintenance scares me to death, and spending $50k on a 10 year old car is not enticing.
£65k sterling for this one!
I am a Porsche fan , I have a cayman S. and I love it ...I have drove a 911 and I enjoyed it ...but happy with my cayman porsches are not for everyone , as many hate them as many that love them ..
Great video you summery of this Porsche is spot on - Very desirable, looks amazing and is a hoot to drive but value for money not so much. 60k is a large amount for 7 year old car particularly when there are so many other cars out there that offer a similar experience for a lot less - all a bit academic for me but Hey ho! Used car prices seem crazy at the moment.
Nice review - I drove a Boxster for a long time and loved it but could never justify the jump to the 911.
Love the ironing board comment.
Officer: Do you know how fast you were going sir
Matt: It was all in the name of science 🧪
I'm basically a professor
@@HighPeakAutos ..... : "No, officer, I was rather hoping you could tell me, as my eyes were firmly fixed on the ever approaching bend by the Cat & Fiddle ahead."
... you could tell how fast you were gong by the "silence-of-concentration" muted presentation... my wife says I also go rather quiet above certain speeds.
The thinking man’s super car, always been in two minds about a 911. On the one hand I love them, they’re iconic, they do everything really well.
On the other hand, because they’re so good at everything and they’re a jack of all trades, it defeats the object of a super car, lacking abit of character.
Absolutely agree with you
The funny what you said about price rises - cos that’s me. 17 years of MX5 then a cretin at the Main Dealer and the thought of COVID later and I got myself an M240 last September - do it now or forever hold yer piece
Great review as always. The roof opening mechanism is worth the entrance money alone.
Great review, makes me want one even more after watching this.
In my opinion, even if Porsches are marvelous pieces of engineering that can handle like no other, in most cases you would be driving them slowly and very rarely take them on the track, as the average person does not really have the skill to go fast around corners. Porsches are cars made for the rich.
On the other hand, Hyundai, that now produces performance cars gives them enough power to make people feel like they are driving a fast car but at the same time fast enough that most roads can take. Where is someone supposed to unleash 380 horsepower, if he doesn't have the autobahn on his doorstep? The 911 is a dream car only because it's unaffordable for the average person and even when someone has 50 grand to waste on a car, 50 grand is a lot of money and from my experience such people would rather buy a luxury sedan or SUV to make their trips comfortable.
Great review as always, great, honest and simple content as always. I would love to see the i30N one day in your channel.
Very good points there. They're a dream for most people.
Think the road noise would get quite wearisome over time, but I do like 911's. Might as well get the 992.2 Turbo S and see what it is like to be strapped to a rocket :)
I just love the way the roof opens on the Targa. Probably the 911 I would get. If I had deep pockets..
Me too - one of the best roof mechanisms
Such a beautiful vehicle.
10.30 the cows both watching the targa roof operating.
They were impressed.
🤣🤣
Haha yes they were
Smart casual fits your style and videos far better. Just a visual observation.
As an answer to your question...... definitely a huge "YES". Specifically a Targa 😍 . Thanks a million for the video.
Thanks for watching
Thank you, an awesome sound and a good laugh with great shots, much fun👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Like you Matt, I like these and can appreciate the engineering and performance. Also like you, I don't have an overwhelming urge to own one. I'm not sure why tbh but I'm far more drawn to Aston Martin although I know they can be spectacularly expensive to maintain.
Another great review, top of my short list along with the AGM GTC. Just hope I can find the right spec at the right price when I finally break open the piggy bank. 🤞
I love the AMG GT. I’ll have one one day
Germany designer had a fetish for the rear end of a jensen interceptor- A cool review 😎
That’s a good point, that rear dome is very intercepter-ish
German
yes i see that also
lol, that "binocular" button 8:32 is an exhaust :)
Yes i know, it was a joke. Last video I called it a sunglasses button
@@HighPeakAutos Damn, I checked and checked to see if it was an inside joke but didn't catch anything, I should have known!
Looks lovely. They stopped making 911s with the 993 however.
Loved the video and did you have a think about the 2 questions
Which questions?

Another great and thoroughly entertaining review. 👏🏻
I think guys but into the novelty aspect and link of a Targa. But once they get caught in the rain a few tribes with nowhere to pull over to close the top.... They feel the regret. Better to buy a Cabrio if looking for that open top experience
Hi Matt, hope you are well and not been locked up for speeding! 911, my fave car of all. Beautiful. Never had or driven one...tell a lie, i have a few die cast models. Does that count? I look, then think, 'you only live once', but decide to stick to my soft, quiet LS460. At least I can get in and out of it! If I fell into a 911, not sure you'd get me out. Not sure I'd want to. Always the non-turbo base model for me. White, grey leather (maybe), '911' on engine cover only. Dammit, I feel a YOLO attack coming on! That's your fault. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Hi, I love the LS - good choice!
I pulled up alongside a Porsche last week in my London Bus and asked the owner if he wanted to swap; "you can use the bus lane" I suggested. He refused but when I asked if his Porsche was any good he said "buy Japanese".
Just bought a targa GTS. Can’t wait to get it :)

Another great review Matt, but could you please include some costs of an average service, dealer & specialist and insurance costs so that your subscribers don’t spend too much time checking out cars that’ll cost them a mortgage payment to run. i would take one any time but they have a tendency to be heavily guarded.
Even the cows were very impressed with the roof operation…😎
I’d agree for the price point DBS all the way, I don’t care if it’s slower I’d have it over any Porsche!
Great review as usual. As much as I love 911's, I don't think🤔 the Missus, would let me back in the house, if I told her that I've just spent 100k💷 on a car that hasn't got a boot and the engine sounds like her mum's Volkswagen.
