This week, what we consider to be the real hidden gem in the Porsche 911 991.2 generation - the mighty C4S Targa. Steeped in history, beautiful to behold, featuring THAT folding roof, and now packing serious flat-6 twin-turbo firepower.
The Targa used to be the wimpy runt of the litter (993, 996, 997 & 991.1), but this final edition is a serious drivers’ car with unbeatable versatility, and the ability to turn heads at 50 paces.
And it’s a favourite of Jay Kay from Jamiroquai!
Will this Carmine Red beauty work its way into the CarGuys’ garage? Can Jason be converted to modern 911s? Will the roof keeping working? All these questions and more are answered in this week’s episode. Enjoy!
Created by two ordinary guys with an obsession for cars, TheCarGuys.tv is a digital channel that celebrates everything automotive - supercars, classics, quirky, hidden gems and those in the TCG garage.

This channel is the real hidden gem
Aw, bless your heart
Completely agreed
Thanks, Andrew
Deserves a lot more subs.
So far above and beyond the other channels featuring Divs.
I like it alot, no videos in underground car parks or petrol stations!!
My favourite non-GT Porsche, it's just so beautiful!
The Targa has to be the best looking normal 911.
@Young Black Conservative GT3RS I would say :-)
And it always was
“Get down there you slag!” 😄
Made me chuckle that 🤣
This channel slowly became one of my all-time favourites on UA-cam, please never stop uploading guys!
Love the face being pulled at 16:21, during the full bore acceleration run haha!!! The perfect example of just how rapid this beast is.
As always keep em coming gents. Bloody great!
I am not easily amused especially as am getting older, but u two give me a right laugh, especially the taller guy. Love ur videos, even my wife watches em and she don't even like cars.
great vídeo guys , as usual, keep them coming , greetings from Portugal
Always my first watch on a Saturday morning, well done again guys
Great video guys! Keep up the good work👍
Absolutely stunning! Love the fact that they are bringing back the retro targa look on this model.
Absolutely great video lads. You too are still making the best content on youtube. I loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great review, both informative and entertaining. Thanks.😀😀😀
this channel deserves much more subs
This is an old video now, but the value of 991.2 targa’s is going through the roof! Pardon the pun! I have been looking for one, then sell in days and the prices have gone up by £10k in the last two weeks. Watching every UA-cam review you can see why. Damen and Jason you are spot on, in your reviews. Every film is a must watch. Keep up the great work! My quest to find the right targa continues... cheers Rich
Thanks, my friend - good luck in your search
Love the channel gents!!! It's so refreshing to have the presenters of a car show be decent normal blokes. I haven't once felt the urge to punch either of you in the face, the same thing certainly isnt true with Clarkson (and his cronies) and several UA-camrs. Very personable presenters and a great real life car review, done on our not so great UK roads. The highest of compliments I'd say haha!!! I thought your JK and Tiff impersonations were pretty good!!!
Thanks, David. You are officially awesome
Beautiful car ... but still can`t get over you selling the F40. First thing I was thinking about when the Video popped up in my notifications. Will need a few weeks to get over it :-D - Your 1985 Versions looks also delicious.
‘Get down there you slag’ 😂😂😂😂
Saw a detail I was unaware of at 10:25...an air deflector just above the windshield/windscreen. Talk about parts that can and will go wrong! These guys are great and think it's time to hit subscribe...
As the owner of a (older model) Mercedes AMG with a folding hardtop roof, I definitely relate to your concerns over the long term reliability of the Targa roof mechanism. However whilst it is working it is pure magic!
Love your Porsche content so much .... 1 year in to owning a Porsche and want to keep it forever.
Great review, very comprehensive and a fair summary. Tks.
Huge leap forward in cinematography in this video. The first minutes contain very good visual work. The overlap of the roof diagram and the real one opening was outstanding.
Back to the car, I would have a coupe to be fair, but I reckon that the Targa looks much nicer than the cabriolet and has way more personality.
A pleasurable drive, shared. A dream car and the bantering... 👌🏻 Thanks.
👍🏻👍🏻
I love the Targa. Your comment about the possible longevity of the roof mechanism really struck a cord with me as I have a 14 year old Mercedes AMG with the folding metal roof and I dread the day it stops working😬
Your channel just gets better! Your funny, I’ve learnt something , car is cracking , I got a nice watch shot. The car has an analog clock!!!
I never knew the old targa had a plastic removable back screen, Vintage is great!
Thanks as always I’m now always looking forward to your Friday uploads
As usual a fantastic video!! I really like the Targa. Beautiful design 😎
Best duo since morecome and wise. When I watch one of these posts it takes me back to the eighties. Half expect my old man to come through the door with the fish and chips bought with luncheon vouchers. There is a metal Mickey era about this channel and it works. Keep going Lads. Big Fan.
Er , thanks
Its fantastic its a proper Targa once again.Porsche just keeps upping the game with the 911.
Simply breath taking. What a piece of beautiful machinery, elegant wow I'm in love !
It's funny seeing my local area, Bournemouth and Poole, in a popular UA-cam channel. Keep up the good work!
yeah ,spot on guys good video. well edited and shot. love the car.
Great honest review of an splendid piece of automotive art.
What year was your 911 C4S Targa? I watched your UA-cam video and I have a 2018 911 Targa 4S and it does not have headlight washers while your model had them. I know mine was made for the U. S. market but the elimination of such an iconic item was disappointing because I previously owned a 1984 911 Targa and it had this feature. Also, your concern about the functioning of the roof may be of concern, but I am not worried about it as an owner. My dealer tried to get me to upgrade to a GTS but I chose to keep it simple since I was not intending to race the car and there are only certain areas where one can open this car up and I have felt that the 4S has plenty of power in those instances. Thanks for the review, and by the way, I have tired the LAUNCH CONTROL but not the instant acceleration from the center button. I will try it on my next trip later this month.
I went for a test drive on the strength of this review and ended up buying a yellow 991.2 Targa 4S about 6 months ago. It really is a lovely car. Great video and great channel.
Wow, awesome ! Send us a pic 👍
Great video. I own this car with a manual transmission since June 2016 and happy to report after 20k miles and countless of targa roof use, the wobbly roof is still functioning reliably and as wobbly as ever but is still working after almost 3 yrs. Great car and do prefer it as my daily driver to my 2017 Macan GTS, my 991.2 GT3, 991.2 GT3 RS, 991.2 GT2 RS, And my GT4 and I drive on all weather conditions including heavy snow and of course on track and autocross. Shortly after I got it, I remember shattering the egos of few GT3 991.1 owners as this car beat them both on track and on autocross on standard P zero tires and with a manual transmission. Imagine if this beast wore cup 2 tires like my other GT Porsches... Lovely Lovely car. Only complain the exhausts note. Mark
Good to hear, Mark
Talk about a dream garage,if you're telling the truth. You are a very fortunate individual... Good for you!🙏
Great videos guys, enjoy your vlogs, more please!
More?
@@TheCarGuysTV for sure! More of the crack, more regular vlogs!
As ever chaps as superb video. I attended OPC Wilmslow last night for the launch of the new 911. What a piece of design and engineering that is! Possible review of it coming up???? 😁👍🏼
Hi Dibbs - yes we will be getting one in the next month
You guys speaking again after the f40 bombshell! ? 😁 I think the new 911s look to bulky.. 997 was the sweet spot
I think it’s all down to personal taste, I much prefer the new 911’s, they look sleeker with better styling details.
every generation before 991 was too small. i'm glad they made it bigger in 992.
@@garyhsu9935 interior similar.. Body bigger... A smaller car is easier to place on the road
Yes the Targa is the coolest car in Porsches line up, but I would say that wouldn't I 😊 great video once again guys
Phew, so we pass the Bailey test?
TheCarGuys.TV yes you may one day even qualify to join my team 😂
hello roger bailey
Like nice glimpse over Seiko; and actually I like you do it in every review. Well done. Would you daily Targa GTS?
Yes, you'd easily daily a Targa GTS
991.2 is the best looking gen of 911s imo
Every 911(of 991.2)from the turbo s to the Gt2rs look absolutely stunning !
Curtis Upperman Carrera GT will always be my favourite Porsche too!
The Gt3 in a pastel gray spec is second
Gt2rs for its sheer speed
Tubo s
Now coming to non street legal Porsches
919 evo Lmp1 car
911 rsr 2018
What about you are there any other brands that you like ?
Curtis Upperman I’m also a big fan of modified Porsches like Singer, rwb and ruf
Curtis Upperman you 2 man ....been a long time since I met a like minded petrolhead on UA-cam ,do you have an Instagram or Twitter ?
Curtis Upperman I’m not a fan of recent Ferraris tbh the 488, 812(specially from the front those headlights look hideous!) plus they all lack in performance when you compare them to their competitors like Lamborghini and Mclaren and of course Porsche
The modern Ferraris I like are F12(still the most beautiful modern Gt car) ,La Ferrari, 360 challenge ,430 scud and ofc 458 and 488 pista maybe
And ofc I’m a big fan of f50,f40 enzo and 250 gto you know the classic Ferraris
But at the end of the day it’s lambo for me
Curtis Upperman I agree the 812 sounds amazing and I bet it would be great fun sliding around on track and burnouts .....sad to see we won’t see v12 Ferraris or any v12s for that matter anymore in the future..then these UA-cam videos will remind us the drama and emotion of these glorious v12s when everything has gone electric ⚡️
I remember someone saying that ,”Car guys are just nerds who though PC building and comic books weren’t an expensive enough hobby “lol
Very tempted to part ex my 991.1 GTS for a Targa 991.2 GTS in Black.
Love that transition when you moved from the tech drawing to real life. Class.
Thanks, Paul - you are the first to comment on that - it makes the effort worthwhile when people notice the detail 👍
You guys are great. Please keep the awesome content going.
Thank you
Great video guys ! Keep the 911 reviews coming, a GTS perhaps?
How about a 992?
Delighted to see a proper Targa video, don't see many on these. Love the look of the Targa, I'd have one.
Two great mates reviewing amazing cars. Lots of laughs and so insightful. Top channel guys..
Paul Kippax Thanks, Paul
Loving the humour guys.... :-) and you made some very interesting points about the model... I particularly liked your red example.....
Nice one guys, thanks
Really informative video,thoroughly enjoyed it
I really enjoyed this video, would love to see a turbo s review, keep up the great work guys!
Been waiting all day for this video! :-)
Car guys you are brilliant . Superb machine a great review thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
after having owned a Mk1 Elise in the past.. there is a certain charm in having to put a roof up manually and getting slightly wet in the process.. Beautiful car though (C4S Targa) and a great review as always!
Awesome review !!!
Another great real world review. Thanks guys.
You’re most welcome, Antony
Targa is still the best looking 911 ever!
Love the Targa.
Was hoping you’d show the roof movement. It’s a joy to see.
Don't worry, you can check the same roof movement out on the Mazda MX5 RF review. :)
I'am digging the Targa. would love to see it in black with those wheels.
"Roof off, what do you think about rigidity?" Yes, I'm definitely getting it.
Enjoyed the video. Loved the car.
Targa, henceforth known as the Jay Kay Hat Top. Super good fun. The throwback wheels are a true delight. Cheers, chaps.
Brilliant video again chaps. I’m still not a Targa convert, but I respect them a bit more now. Turbo S Coupe every time!
Nice one, Rich
Great vid as usual, thanks. Yes that retractable glass roof does look a bit worrying for long term ownership.
Excellent video gentlemen, you are great 👍🏻
Thanks as always, Geof
may I ask what the relationship is between Damian and Jason? and are the cars co owned between them?
Great review guys! I love the Targa. What a fantastic car. I’m with you about the roof mechanism I would be worried about it out of Porsche warranty. Hence I would plump for the coupe money dependant maybe the Turbo S?!
Surprised with the roof. Cant understand why they didn't make a removable bit you can put in the boot rather than all the mechanical drama.
Still a great car and i like the metal roof band
i just bought a 2017 in Night Blue in lieu of buying the more $$ and more complicated 2025 Targa GTS. i think this is the best looking 911, better than the 992 and certainly better than 992.2.
Get down there you slag! I’m laughing my ass off, my daughters asking “what’s so funny daddy?” Lol
Just a brilliant and entertaining road test on a beautiful 911, well done Guys👍
Thank you, Peter - much appreciated
I think Porsche should make a special "RS" version of the Targa 4S by deleting the mechanism of the roof top and use a manual hop-on T-top and possibly going through a 'GT3' light weighted treatment to make it a more desirable sports car with Targa top. Tks for the video!
I'd be up for this - I'm always scared of that electric roof.
I can't believe you're ragging it around the back of 3legged cross Wimborne etc at these speeds without the rozzers picking up on this video :D fair play though and thanks for the footage.
If you are using a lot of the steering wheel do you bang your fingers on the mode actuator? Looks like an unusual design oversight by Porsche...?
I love it, truly sexy targa and I never thought I’d say that
Great real-world coverage. I likewise would want the full-fruit Turbo S simply because it exists! Admittedly these new 911's have all the beans you'll ever need however.
Nice review Guys. Think you will find that there is one company in Germany that make the roof mechanisms for all cabriolets and convertibles irrespective of the manufacturer and have done for decades, so it should be perfectly reliable. BTW if you think that roof mech is heavy and cumbersome then you should check out the ones Mercedes use on the SL... 😀
Well done gents. The overall length of a 991.1 compared even to a 2004 Carrera 4S is very similar. A significant difference is in the length of the wheel base and this is what I believe makes the 991.1 models feel more un-Porsche-like. I believe what improves the sensation is more lower -end torque via the turbos in the 991.2 models. Great channel.
Thanks, Cabby
Very good video 👍👍👍
Thank you
Holy Sh**! When I came back from the training this evening I was listening to Jay Kay in the car :-D - I call that "Virtual Insanity" - The GTS Version of this car would be one of my favorites right now.
I wanna hate the Targa because I can't locate a used one within my budget/city. Fuck this, it keeps getting better!
Always loved the Targa. Forgot the turbo, I’d have the previous NA model 😎
This is the car review that I expect from a Brit. Really enjoying it!
Sound is excellent
Great video, think my favourite 911. Never thought about the roof, probably right so I think before buying would check out cost to repair. But great chemistry guys. Right amount of information in entertaining way. Shame one of you looks a bit like Mike Ca§hley won’t hold that against you.
If ever there was a reason to go on a diet... 😂
you are so good guys 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Jay kay put some timber on it looked like he was trying to smuggle a Christmas turkey😂Love the Targa it’s the model I would choose, living on the Costa Blanca for 6 months a year it would get lots of use with the roof off
Great review guy's, that car looks da bollox !
Love this type of video, love Porsche
No need for the overtake button! Sheer brilliance 👌🏼💪🏻👍🏻
Along with something like the GT2 RS, this is the model I would have from the current 911 range.
Glad to see you found some more narrow bridges to go over !!! 😱
You spotted it 😃
EXCELLENT VIDEO.!!
Cheers
Excellent as always chaps....
Cheers, Alan
This channel is so enjoyable
Thank you
Just two lads talking Porsches, love it 👍🏼
Good stuff - glad you enjoyed it
Best review on you tube by the way, quality.
Thank you very much, Gareth - glad you’re tuning in and enjoying it
Cheers guys.
Love the New Targa 4s and the sure footed ability the AWD provides. Thoughts....Did you find the awd a bonus feature to put all of that power to the ground?
