👍🏽💃🏽now that's wonderful. Cause some of us jus don't hve the equipment to grind the dhal or even have the time for all that. Thank you for posting. I can't wait to try this
Young man. You. Are. A. GODSEND! Long story short: I am Cuban-American and my good Trini friend put me on to dhalpuri roti, and I bought the split peas at a well-stocked Shoprite, where I ALSO found split pea flour. I also wondered what your viewer did about this very possibility you crafted and conveyed and illustrated SO beautifully! I am floored at how well this, my first try at ANY roti, let alone a stuffed one, came out! Also, this is the first time I have followed a recipe video in my life, and seeing that you hacked the split pea flour shortcut made me decide, at 11pm, mind you, to give it a go, this after watching your oil roti video and first thinking I should try that. Anyway, the dough is soft perfection, and every single roti puffed up at least a little, and some a lot - ON MY FIRST TRY! I salute you, and I thank you profusely for perking up a slightly gloomy evening!!! I dont know if you'll get this in time to answer my question but I'll ask anyway: how should I store these babies? Should I freeze them? My mom will devour at least two tomorrow, but I want to keep them as nice and close to fresh as possible. Thanks again SOOOO much! Having done this simplified recipe, I now feel ready to try the full on dhalpuri roti recipe!! Lord bless you, stay safe, and keep on making culinary magic! Lastly, thanks for being so open and generous with your cuisine, instead of hiding and hoarding your tricks of the trade. All the best! ileana
Thank you so much for your kind and lovely comment. You can keep these wrapped and put in a ziplock in the fridge for about 3 days. Or in the freezer for about a month or 2
In a world full of hucksters and charlatans, it's so refreshing to see genuine, honest ability and skill (hence my gushing, which is also because I loooove roti heehee!).
I'm afraid I will like this dhal puri better because my biggest pet peeve with dhal puri is when it break up the dhal explode out of the roti. Lol that why I like oil or aloo more.
I just did this today! wow! 1st time ever making dhalpuri roti (2nd time making dough from scratch) , and my fiance who is Trinidadian, was impressed! I honestly was shocked too! Your instructions are great. The dough is suuuper soft and wonderful. Thank you for doing this with the ground yellow split pea powder as it makes it easier for beginners like me.
This is a game changer. What I love the most about this is that it looks like it has virtually no dhal spillage. I'm going to have to test this one out but thanks for the idea. Genius!
Thanks for sharing. My mill was broken last Christmas day en my kids expected dhaal puri en my deegh was already mixed en my only option was te used pea flour. Just the way you did en it was good. No one believed. Anyways i love it because the ground split pea burns my stomach. I taught i was the first to know dat. Thank you.
Ahh..I was folding over my dough for both roti and bake and somehow they ended up having a stiff texture when rolling out and after ten minutes of cooking. I will try this punching method.
Very interesting, , was thinking of making dhalpaurie an channa an aloo tmrw cause it’s my fasting day , an i only have dhal mixture for 3 roti, but I do have grind dhal I’ll try it
@@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 I tried everything recommended but mine ended up turning out looking like a roti doubles hybrid lol. It still taste good but the presentation was not like yours lol
I use the publix unbleached flour and Argo baking powder. But any flour will work (I stay away from Gold Medal because I find it doesnt make everything as soft). And any baking powder works I've used so many brands.
Hello Matthew you usually post enticing recipes on your channel but for this one i give you a 4,i love the original dhalpurri you posted on here awhile back,i understand you are showing variations in making the Guyanese delicacy dhalpurri but the one with the freshly grind peas along with the geera etc hmmmmmm is a force to reckon with✌
@@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 thank you. I made it and i got 8 because my tawa is kinda small. But it tasted almost the same. I was kinda busy so it worked out wonderfully.
Wow! I am going to adopt this method for making 'Puran poli', a sweet delicacy made in India especially during festivals. Along with gram flour, jaggery, a pinch of green cardamom & nutmeg powder. Alternatively, for those who do not have a sweet tooth, after the filling has cooled, add salt & powdered dry cummin & coriander seeds, a little red chilly powder & a teaspoon of lemon juice. Further process - the same. This will make the process much simpler & definitely less time consuming! Thanks a lot. :) God bless!
Last Sunday I cooked a duck and wanted dhal puri, too lazy, in a hurry, to go grind dhal etc. so I had my duck with rice and plain roti. Did not satisfy, and suddenly today I stumbled upon this recipe. Would definitely try it. Can you post the address for the tawa please. Thanks, you now make my life simpler
This is fantastic..what an idea Mat..you're so clever...made it and it was flawless and tasty and less time consuming...don't we love easy, special and tasty at the same time...thanks much you are the Shinning star!!!

I got that request and found it strange also... testing it out atm.
Yeah I didn't think it was possible but it makes a delicious dhalpuri.

I was looking for a recipe from you as huzzie just brought the powder home. Laws have mercy lol
Wow those look so good, I love how you explain everything so precisely. Thank you
my question :-is it the same taste? i am definitely gonna try this recipe
I would say it taste 90% like a regular dhalpuri lol
That is such a good idea. I have nothing to grind the spilt peas. I will definitely try that! Thanks.

Matthew, boy, you are a genius. Just like the fast potato roti concept.
We can do this with the instant mashed potatoes I’m sure.
