- All over the country cars are being stolen, without the keys being taken. Ford Cars use a 'smart key' or 'proximity key' system that allows you to just press a button on the dashboard. Unfortinately, these cars have been reported stolen in many cities all around the UK. Watch this video to learn how it happens and then some simple things that will help you.

Got a disklok and tracker on mine. If it gets stolen I'm going to retrieve it with my baseball bat.
The baddies ripped the tracker out of mine then used glue dots to stick on a cloned number plate. Hard lesson learnt for me.
Disc locks are not a problem. As a security systems engineer I used one many times , daily ! Once you get used to it it takes a couple of seconds to fit or remove. Just stow it behind the passenger seat. Its not meant to be a tight fit. Being loose makes it impossible to steer
Thansk for the feedback David :)
A quite few years ago our local Crime Prevention sold these Disk Locks at a very low price to Vauxhall Cavalier owners. This car was SO easy to break into ! The Disk Lick was highly regarded and still is !
Thank you for sharing your wisdom, thank you
i put my car key in a faraday pouch which is fastened to my rottweilers collar.
Good plan!
What if they steal your rottweiler
@@shadow1x20 😂😂😂
Yes, I've just brought a Disklok and my two keys are in a Faraday pouch, locked in a steel tin away from the front door. My car is a Jag BTW !!!!
@@shadow1x20 they get eaten
We have a 2012 ford C-MAX with keyless push button start. We invested in a disklok from day one. Another thing you can do is put your keys inside a quality street tin. Not the plastic ones the metal ones. Fingers crossed we have never had a problem. Great video great advice 👍
HI, thank you. So many cars are stolen just because bad people use simple technology that exploits the keyless system.
Physical security, such as the disk lock is a simple deterrent. Not perfect, but simple
That's because it's a C Max that's why you still have it.
Ghost immobilser is a good one to get. Surprisingly cheap at around £400, which when you consider the diskloks are £100 anyway is pretty good for something that's virtually bulletproof. The diskloks can be removed with an angle grinder if they have some privacy for a few minutes but as far as I'm aware the ghost immobiliser is pretty much foolproof. Plus you have to remember to put the diskloks on and I know I've occasionally forgotten myself, whereas an immobiliser is on automatically and can even help with a carjacking as you just switch the engine off and throw the keys at them running off and your car won't start and you can be out of there
Hi, yes I'm hearing good things about the Ghost immobiliser. Thanks for the feedback, I'm sure it will be helpful
God its only been a year since your comment and ghost is now £500
Just recently picked up a new BMW & was not happy with the security on it, just told by BMW to buy the gap insurance. After looking around I found the Ghost & spoke to BMW about it. The BMW technician said yes the Ghost is the best & securest option, however BMW said it would invalidate my warranty as the the Ghost needs connecting to the wiring loom, I was disgusted that BMW do little to protect the cars we work hard for. In the end I went for an OBD lock which covers the OBD & can't be broken, a disk lock, Faraday case & box & the Gap insurance to cover me.
Our spare keys are in a Faraday cage box. The keys we use are in faraday pouches. I also have a Disklok on my Fiesta
Good to hear Robert, it's all about making it as difficult as possible ;)
Key less car theft is mainly keyless entry, I.e the door unlocked when you approach, not click a button.....also if you paid 50k for focus you have already been robbed 😂
I always keep my car keys in my bedroom every night and the steering lock goes on wherever I leave it
Good advice
Scan proof case at the back of a terraced house & they still go through my car upto 2 times a week…
Sold the ford s-max & now & have a focus st & that’s more stealable so I had a second alarm/immobiliser fitted & I use a steering lock & pedal lock if it’s not in the garage.
Got the faraday pouch & a Stoplok Pro.
Good job, anything is better than nothing :)
If anyone is worried about your key less system you should try a auto watch ghost system even if they steal your keys the car can’t be stolen
Can you tell us more please Ady? Please feel free to add a Link

Is this 24volt version for commercial vehicles instead of cars?
Awful system. Better off with a cobra 4615 or a 650 blackjax by Clifford.
These cars need a proper aftermarket thatcham alarm/immobilser on this.
Clifford 650 or Cobra Adr 4615 devices sort this problem out.
Hi Stuart, thanks for this. Can you expand on why, and a typical price? I don't have one, but I'm sure viewers would really appreciate you advice, Thanks :)
The Car Key Man the issue with the in built car manufacturer systems is that they are disabled easily. Obd isnt the only way of stealing a car.
20 years ago we had same issue with hot hatches. To resolve this. Insurers applied minimum security by asking for a thatcham category 1 device to be fitted.
Clifford 650 , Vodaphone 4615 Adr , have separate immobilsers and alarms that cannot be deactivated via relay or obd. They also have warnaway flashing leds.
Regarding the discloc. Thieves have a way around that.
Price 400 pounds onwards.
I have a modified 300bhp fiesta st. Have used both cobra and clifford and not had any issues with car.
Hi Stuart, thanks for all this info. Do you fit them, if so, what area do you cover?
Also, do you have a blog, or a YT channel etc that I can point people in the direction of?
The Car Key Man i do not fit them. Im a ex underwriter. Worked in insurance industry over 20 years.
Theres loads of ways if getting into cars. And without damage.
There is two types of keyless systems with Fords. One has keyless entry. One does not. An ST3 for example has keyless entry. An ST2 for example only has keyless start.
Thanks for the info Richard
My 2017 St line got nicked. No glass outside 2 sets of manual start keys in the house. Car was locked. Don't know how they took it.
Got it on my Ford Focus RS great product
Good to hear some positive feedback , thanks
Not a great product against the angle grinder , your better off unpluging your throttle or taking the ecu with u , both 30 seconds jobs which will save your car
I think that you will change your mind about that once your 20 000 pound car gets nicked of you driveway in less than 30 seconds because you didn’t choose the non keyless fob instead.....🤔
A lot of steering wheels are D shaped nowadays. Are these still secure with a disk lock?
Hi Les, yes as long as the lock is the correct size for the wheel
@@TheCarKeyMan Thanks. I thought they would fit but just over checking 👍😂
About to take delivery of a new BMW m135i xdrive, im led to understand they are hot for thieves to steal so the cost of buying one of these is not an option.
My view is if there are two identical cars parked next to each other one has a disk lock the other does not which one woukd a potential thief go for
Hi Mark, agreed. We all need to make it as difficult as possible ....
Get a ghost immobiliser aswell. The diskloks are good visual deterrent. That's what I did after some tramps tried to snap locks to my home to get keys to my new Audi last week.
Faraday pouches work well to block signals.
Hi, thanks for that, can you post a link to explain what you mean, or where to buy them, so that other people know what they are please? Thanks :)
Oh, for example : ua-cam.com/video/MdyS5QetVfo/v-deo.html
Thanks for this, really helpful
Pouches won't do anything u have to take it out the pouch to start the car we can just hide the gadget next to car when u ușe the key we get the signale come Back and done
@@ramonatan4406 "we"? 👊 (punch punch)
To be fair it isnt just fords!!
Its all key less modern cars
Yes I agree, it's just we have so many of them here in the UK
@@TheCarKeyMan my fiat talento van has keyless entry but the system has been updated to stop remote electronic theft. When you deadlock the van with a second push of the lock button, on the remote and after you leave the car's radio proximity, the central locking is disabled from that moment on, until the key body is placed into the key dock. The car can only be opened by the remote control function on the key, until it is docked. If the dead lock is not applied ie only one button press of the shut button the central locking operates normally. Even though it has this added security, I still use a wheel lock and my key always goes into a farraday pouch, taken to my bedroom away from exterior walls when not in use.
Doesn't matter if the keys are upstairs or in a normal drawer the theives can get the signal from the so called smart ford key. my brothers car fiesta ST got stolen before 12am last Wednesday within 1 minute!! not sure if they used the obd port but they did have the relay device.
THE KEY HAS TO BE IN ANY METAL BOX OR JUST BUY A FARADAY POUCH FROM AMAZON ETC.
Thanks for the comments, great advice
No tracker No?
Make a box out of cement that will block signals
TOYOTA KEYLESS ENTRY KEYS CAN BE POWERED OFF BY HOLDING DOWN LOCK WHILE CLICKING UNLOCK TWICE. You will see the tiny red light on the key blink twice two times.
they dont need keys to steal a ford...they just put a device into obd port and tricking the car n start it...best to thing to do is relocate the port
I see a fiesta ST parked near me with one of these
Yes Joe, Keyless Ford Fiesta ST are really popular with thieves
The Car Key Man you think😂
I hate keyless entry especially mobile phone linked entry. Totally stupid idea.
Yes, I'm not keen, a good old fashioned key is hard to get past, whereas keyless takes away most of the security
Get a roll of bacofoil from a supermarket, wrap your keys in it as soon as you get out of (and lock) your car. O.K., in time the foil goes yucky but you've got a huge roll of it, so just use a fresh bit. Once indoors, you can put the "wrapped" keys in the microwave (obviously, check inside before using it...duuugh!), this might seem like a faff but you want to protect your car, right?
Hi Gerry. Do you have a keyless car?
get all locks i say for the gears for the wheel they wont even bother breaking in your car they will say this is waste of time plus the noise aswell breaking in locks its not even worth it to them
Someone unlock my car last week and got stuff stolen...I parked my car in the driveway and I presumed it is safe enough
Hi Ahmed, sorry to hear this. What car is it please?
Ford CMAX@@TheCarKeyMan
I had my fiesta stolen 2 weeks ago. I live 10 storeys high!
They break in via the door lock and then get in via the boot. The door locks are very easy to pick that opens the boot access They climb in there and then probably plug into the obd port. They don't always use the keyless entry system to steal these cars.
Just take your steering wheel off at night.
That would work...
Or a simple lock on your steering wheel might do.
Just switch the keyless entry off.
My car trunk has a button that opens from the outside. Anybody can just climb in now.
That's not good!
I keep my keys in a biscuit metal box at all times the car is not in use.
Nice one, good thinking
It needs to be aluminium not steel
Maybe just cover your key overnight in Aluminium foil or put it in a Aluminium foil covered drawer.
Yes thats another way!
The Car Key Man simple yet effective
Covering in aluminium foil won't make any difference.
asimsparks oh yes it will my key less entry won't work with foil around the keys
I thought it was only keyless entry that could be got in to
Hi Paul. We're told about both keyless and traditional cars that are stolen. Ford Custom and Transit vans are a good example of vehicles that get taken. Some kind of extra protection is a must with these.
The gadget is the same size as a wifi modem. Look just like a WiFi box ,my boys got 3 of them
Thanks Ramona
In the United States, pickup trucks, SUVs and certain Hondas are a hot target to car thieves.
What methods do you have to stop it in the US please ? Any top tips?
@@TheCarKeyMan Hide your valuables, lock your car without the key fob, install an anti-theft system if possible, and if you have a keyless entry system, wrap up the keys fob with aluminum foil. Most cars stolen in the United States is pickup trucks including the Ford F-Series, Chevy Silverado, and the Dodge Ram.
@@TheCarKeyMan TOYOTA KEYLESS ENTRY KEYS CAN BE POWERED OFF BY HOLDING DOWN LOCK WHILE CLICKING UNLOCK TWICE
@@TheCarKeyMan buy a gun ? 😂🤣
What about if they have a mobile battery angle grinder ?
I would say they'll probably get it off, if they make enough noise..
@@TheCarKeyMan Yeah they do best to fit a cat 1 alarm and imobliser and have it sorted best to be safe and sorry . Bless .
Put it in a broken microwave if you don't want to destroy the key fob.
Not thought of that! Nice idea
steering wheel locks! OH MAN looks like we gone a step backwords. no way too inconvenient for me, faraday pouch £5 will have to do and good car insurance if it goes
Hi Simon, I do agree. It's a big piece of metal and to put it on and take it off every day is a pain. I think the pouches are the way ahead, but won't be suprised when reports come out of them being beaten. We'll see
Just dont buy a car with a keyless entry.
Agree Andrej, I wouldn't have one
Have you ever heard of a Faraday pouch, available on all car accesories shops and also Amazon for about £10-£15
Does this damage the steering wheel?
Hi, no not ours...
It can leave small scratches on leather steering wheels.
Most automotive engineers I know hate them and wouldn't have a smart key. 🤣
Hi Lee, agreed, they are terrible, unreliable and expensive
Mine got stolen and my keyless key was about 50meters away from car in signal blocking pouches and it still got took
Sorry to hear that Scotty
@@TheCarKeyMan they are real scum bags that don't deserve to be breathing
Did u have a steering lock
Just wrap the key in thick tinfoil, and put it in a metal box. Or get a Faraday bag on Amazon.
Hi. The other way of stealing these cars is to programme a fresh key in while it's parked up. Normally in the dead of night. With a keyless car, it can be coded and stolen in just a few minutes.
Unfortunately, the Faraday cage or metal box won't stop this.
But thanks for the comments
The Car Key Man best thing in the case is toove the odb port to somewhere else in the car.
I put keys in the microwave, forgot they were there, kids turned microwave on and fried both keys. Microwave burst into flames. Microwave meals have never tasted more luxurious.
ouch...
My s3 was stolen and I had one of those disklok’s on 🤬didn’t stop the thieving bastards
Sorry to hear that, Did they steal your keys and then drive it off, or some other way?
The Car Key Man yeah broke in to my house and stole my spare keys
so they unlocked the disklock using keys? I guess the moral of that story is not keeping disklock keys with car keys.
Are you 'avin a laugh? Is he 'avin a laugh? No they drove the car with the disk lock on
I DON'T SEE HOW THAT'S POSSIBLE ???????????
WTF does that title even mean?? 🤔
Man, you made me laugh with that :-D
Thieves spray expanding foam behind the disklok then drive off after a few mins
Disk locks dont really work . They can easily be removed with the Correct Tools .
They will always find a way to steal a car and Im not sure what can be done to stop them .
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.
I agree 👍🏼
Obd needs to be hidden
Agree, we forgot to mention that.
Your tips are brilliant keep up the videos on any more thanks
whats obd?
Amit Kumar Chopra its called a on board diagnostics
It needs to be cut, use a 6 pin connector male & female take your original obd and place a dummy :-)
Keep your keys in a metallic box.
I roll my key with a aluminium foil work like a treat
Nice ;)
No It won't stop your car getting stolen 🤣🤣 see these opened up with a grinder in 3 minutes
Make your car more secure then your next door neighbours . They will take theirs and not yours. 😂
Very true...
Not when you have a focus st/rs and your neighbours have Hyundai i20, old Opel corsa, Fiat panda and so on.
Not a great product against the angle grinder , your better off unpluging your throttle or taking the ecu with u , both 30 seconds jobs which will save your car.
I agree that an angle grinder will beat this. The Disklok is aimed at the residential night time thefts where a grinder is going to attract attention. But as with anything, hardcore theft can be hard to stop. Nice idea about the ECU, but not sure how many people will want to do it to be honest. Thanks for the comments
And how much noise are they going to make using an angle grinder? its too much trouble for them and they will just move on to the next car.
I can open these disklok in a minute or so, not very hard for a locksmith, I’ve had to do unlock several of these over the last few years
Hi, Pete, I think it's part of the picture. There's pedal boxes, deadlocks, trackers and all can be overcome by a professional. Most of the thieves who are stealing cars won't waste the time when there are so many cars that can be stolen more easily.
Thanks for the comment
This could of been explained in 3 minutes or less
Always appreciate the feedback David, thank you
Just watched some take 3mins to get one of them disklok off
Good to know
They wont get a bullock pedal lock off
The disk lock is shit they broke our one and took our car
Oh no, do you use a different one now?
My dad had one of those disclocks on his van. They still broke it off and took his van. Disclocks r useless.
Sorry to hear that Rowena. We've not heard of them being broken off before. It's about slowing people down really and making them choose a different car. Did your dad find something better to use?
It’s not the keys that you have to unlock the car with that are the problem. It’s the keyless entry ones as it tricks the car in thinking the key is outside of the car thus unlocking it for them to get in. I’ve heard of the arm being cut off the disclocks and then being driven. The best solution is a ghost immobiliser
na tin foil works that blocks the signal
Disk locks are useless cordless drill and a lever !! Off in moments !!! More of a visual deterrent than they are able to stop a serious car thief !!
Hi Lee, thanks for the comments. Can you make any suggestions for us all about how you'd prevent this happening?
Thought I saw a documentary or car programme where they tried to drill it, they used former car thieves too?........times moved on since but thought these were pretty robust and thatcham approved
Easier with a Ramset Gun
Maybe...... but these are Tech thieves they may not waste their time.
Wrap your key fob in aluminum foil.
Hi. Yes that would work. But there's another problem. These are getting stolen even without thieves grabbing the signal from the keys that are programmed. These can be opened and a fresh key coded in under ten minutes. Physical security or an OBD protector?
Yeah, that's in no way weird or uncool as a daily practice.
Bells and whistles -- Disklok, Ghost and relocated OBD socket. Replacement OBD can easily have a surprise added when scum plug thier lap top in. Oh and plus Ezekiel 25/17
