I think the point of these devices is to be psychological; to make a thief consider if it is worth the time and risk of being caught. I don't think they are meant to be unbeatable, just take as much time and added risk as possible to the criminal.
This is something my Dad said all the time growing up. Any lock can be beaten, the purpose of a lock is to make it not worth the effort needed to steal whatever you are protecting.
I think it's also that a lot of these devices are not common anymore, so it's unlikely a car theif will have the tools to beat the locks and will most move on to a different car.
theres alot of risks that come also from these methods. the last thing you want to be doing is making noises so using a drill or in the alarm ones case the noise that produces they will consider that in the is it worth stealing . then all it would take is judging one wrong (like how tylertube though the 1st one on the wheel was going to be a 2 second job) so i think the psychological factor does play a big part i really think sound factor is important. the one with the alarm one i feel that one also is not being looked at in the right way. its not so much about stopping someone breaking it. but its about alerting and potentially spooking someone whos stealing it which can make them make more mistakes (as you would feel on a time limit) or even abandon the steal. on top of this any attached to the steering wheel may of caused the horn to go off ( in the exsample cars case it has no alarm but if you kept hitting it with a hammer that may of caused the horn to go off again causing noise ) the only time noise may not be much of a factor is if your in the middle of nowhere. if your in a town center or car park or theres houses and such around noise plays a much bigger part
Yeah that's one reason they were never that good. Some times you could also get the lock cylinder to come off with just a wiggle or maybe one hit with something stout, didn't even need to be a hammer.
I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t work.your better of trying to take the lock off then to get at a screw that’s covered by the lock. Plus that’s if it even has one. Plus that’s more work then what Tyler did
A car with a hidden battery kill switch and hidden fuel pump switch both in separate locations is the best vehicle anti theft. Get a manual transmission car for even more protection here in the US 😂
Better ideas are out there for kill switches. For instance there is a device that requires a certain sequence of button presses to start the vehicle. Even heard of one guy that turned his cigarette lighter into a kill switch on his classic car. Though that would be irrelevant to a vehicle manufactured today since apparently people don’t smoke and drive anymore.
What? This was not very good... put those clubs on from underneath rather that from on in front of the steering wheel. Now, try drilling out the key hole! Can't get a drill in from windshield side! Just makes it harder and takes longer which may be enough to get the person caught or deter the person from trying to steal it!
A real thief just cuts a chunk out of the steering wheel to quickly defeat the club type anti theft device. They should be called deterrences. Time matters so usually they just pick a easier way or mark
They advise putting the Club steering wheel lock on backwards. This would make it harder to drill out the key tumbler. I think the easiest way to disengage these lock mechanism is through drilling out the key tumbler.
I always put mine on backwards. No way they are going to drill it out. That, and my seat belt clipper and by the time you saw/ cut the steering wheel for those two items, I got another 4 barriers to you owning my vehicle. Hope you packed a lunch/ some beer/ and have medical coverage.
Just saw a facebook video showing the best way to put on the club... 1) *Put club on backwards with lock facing dashboard so it can't be drilled out 2) Put club across the top of the steering wheel to greatly reduce steering wheel movement in most cars 3) IF able, put the club on the steering wheel with the longest part facing the driver side window glass. Then pull on the club until you hear a final click to snap it tightly into place eliminating any wiggle room. On my car the long end of the club extends to about 1 inch from the driver side window. The steering wheel can't be turned more than a few inches in either direction. Turn it left it hits the door. Turn it right it hits the frame of the car. This seems like the best method. If a criminal has to cut into the steering wheel to get the club off most likely they will move onto an easier car. Best practice is to ALWAYS put the club on with the lock facing away from you.

Much better to have the keyhole facing the dash. I put the club on like you do but with the lock facing away from me. Funny that the instructions tell you to put it on with the lock facing the driver when the lock is obviously the weak link. Since the club lock can easily be drilled out positioning the lock where a drill can't get to it would make the most sense.

Cannot explain the perfect timing of this video. My friend just got his car stolen last night. They found it (luckily unscathed) and he got it back but I wanted to buy him something so that this wouldn't happen again. The problem being, I was concerned about the durability of some of the products I was finding and my first thought was, "I'm going to see if TylerTube has done a video on some anti-theft lock devices..." Haha.
@@lillykatediaz The standard steering wheel lock with the red on it in this video. Mainly because it wasn't unbreakable but the amount of time it would take to remove it should stop someone from wanting to take the car. It seemed to be one of the hardest/took the longest to get off from the video aside from the actual tire lock, which seemed inconvenient for the car owner as well. Haha.
Best antitheft ive ever seen..my uncle had a k5 blazer, he put a coil and buzz box in the bottom of console, wired to a foil strip under seat cover..if you powered on the ignition without flipping his hidden switch, you got about 2000 jolts a minute of hei spark voltage to the genitals.. i own the truck now..without the antitheft..because i know me..i would have forgotten to flip the switch at some point..
You put both clubs on wrong... The longer part is supposed to go towards the driver door so it bounces between the door and the a pillar, reducing the steering radius. Plus, turning the lock inward makes it extremely difficult to drill out.
I don't think they're meant to be impenetrable. They're just meant to be too much hassle and time to bother with. The longer a theft takes to do, the easier the thief can get caught.
I hope your hand isn't hurt too bad. I think with an angle grinder you can probably get them all out... Had fun watching this video. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Tyler, you are so fun to watch. You have an uncanny level of mechanical knowledge mixed with a charisma that is compelling and entertaining with an icing on this cake made of "I'm very uncertain if this man is dumb as all hell or just a really good actor." And all this means at the end of the day you may have been born specifically for this job. Not fate, but instead, manifesting a fate into existence so that you yourself could fulfill it. Keep up the good work. I love this channel.
I wish they'd make more "interesting" antitheft devices, or more along the lines of defeating the thieves after its stolen. I've always thought inventing/putting a throttle control device that simply wouldn't let the throttle/car decelerate once pressed... basically the pedal stays down as far as its pushed and won't come back up. Baitcams would be way more amusing.
Till I have at least phoned the police ( if they show up that is) and go out and see if I can help out. For the paperwork, the ambulance drivers all need before going up to emerg. They say you can have a normal life with no gonads, but that will be up to 'HIM' & how fast he can run ...
8:22 & 24:36 The Club was the original steering wheel lock back in the 90's. Anyhow, criminals would use a hacksaw to cut the steering wheel in around 30sec and then bend cut parts back sliding the cub off. Anyhow, all of these could work, most criminals don't bring drills, hammers, and saws to steal uses with. Even the easy to break device would help. The idea is to make your vehicle more trouble than its worth. Criminals probably don't want to spend 1-4 minutes trying to disable a steering wheel lock. Now me personally, I use two devices, a steering wheel like and foot brake if I have to park a vehicle outside. Double up on the annoyance.
Thanks for this helpful video! I'm gonna use the steering wheel bar until I get time to properly install a fuel pump switch on my 1984 Toyota Pickup truck.
Dude, I had one lock exactly like the one on 12:17, and my car was stolen at night, on november. It was no problem AT ALL for thief. I watched on another video how the probably broke it, just using a pipe as a lever for bending the hook to your left, and just in a couple of secods man. You are not a good thief or you are just too worry of not damaging your wheel and car. They don't give a f... they just insert the pipe on the hook and use it as a lever to bend it as strongly as they can. If they weren't able to do it, they will cut the wheel. They don't care about anything. You are being too soft.
I have the best anti-theft device in America...A manual transmission. I had someone try to steal it and they made it to the end of the street and that's where they left it 🤣
My neighbor asked to borrow my car for work one day when hers wasn't working, I handed her the keys. Couple minutes of silence went by and then she came back and asked if I could drive her 😂
There is nothing more fun than watching a professional underestimate a device that they originally didn't think it was going to go the distance, but really out performs expectations. When I was watching him work on the 1st one, I honestly thought he almost had it off a couple times, but it was just sliding around making it harder to take off. I cannot believe after he bashed the key hole with a hammer and wedge it still worked! Very Impressive!
I really hope he has the airbags disconnected in that car I've heard too many horror stories about airbags going off when someone is near it with a screwdriver
Or just put them all on? That gives you like what 5-10 minutes to catch the thief? Lol! Then again, on regular days, you’d always be late for work because you have all those locking mechanisms and have to fiddle with keys.
I mean, if you want to say something negative about the first product, it's very inconvenient to use. And, if a person is elderly or handicapped, they're not intentionally getting down on one knee. As far as that 2nd product goes, there are quite a few 2024 base model trim vehicles that still use an old-fashioned parking brake handle.
I used to do this when I had to park in shady parts of downtown. Just the fuel pump relay though. The thief would have to be very dedicated to diagnose and fix it while the alarm is going off.
@@briangereau788 That's your only hope is that they don't have a $5 hand saw and decide to move. Otherwise, you're missing a car if you think one of those steering wheel locks is going to be any sort of security.
@@Arahknid that's why they're theft-deterrents and don't claim to be theft-proof. Any smart thief is going to look for the path of least resistance instead of trying to take an extra step. Unless they really want YOUR car for some reason, they'll usually move on.
First device is actually quite good, given the fact that the main goal is to make life harder for the thiefs. Especially that they won't spend too much time trying to steal one car in particular. Except maybe in Europe where a certain kind of scum in particular steal in broad daylight because they face no consequences.
The first device when a burglar comes and sees it on the Wheel he’s just gonna tear it off by getting your car started and try to break it off by moving the car forward and tearing up your car at the same time.
He used the wrong tool. A large crowbar on the tire leveraging against the prong will bend the wheel lock prong out far enough to remove the wheel lock from the tire. Other UA-cam videos have shown this. 15 - 30 seconds.
2013 Ford fiesta, my e-brake and shifter are in the correct position for the lock but I park in gear because the brake sticks, I can't use it, so that's a no go for my use - also part of the no horn club but I bought an air horn made for boating 😅 ...FUN VIDEO!!
Suppose the Club is installed on the back side of the steering wheel with the lock facing the dash. That would at least add to the effort. Can't get a drill in there.
This was pretty enlightening. I think though that the purpose of these devices isn't to make it impossible to steal a car if you have a bunch of tools at your disposal. but to make it less quick and convenient to do so. I think most car thieves want a car they can grab in a minute or two.
Easy ways to bypass these security measures: 1. remove the whole wheel and replace with the car's spare; 2. unscrew the shifter knob and lift the whole assembly off, then replace the knob; 3. Cut the steering wheel, remove the lock; 4. Undo the seatbelt clip and the whole thing comes off 5. Cut the steering wheel (again) 6. Cut the steering wheel 7. You probably actually found the quickest way. 8. Cut the steering wheel

@@yolandanelson8987THIS lol but I think it would still get in the way. Plus driving with the door open around a cop should be a red flag LOL especially if you have all of these deterrents
Steering wheel locker + GPS tracker (many options) +noisy car alarm + kill switch (or 2: for baterry and fuel pump)!! This is not very expensive and take a lot of time to pass all this.. If u have an expensive car it's worth it, or regardless if u go in rough areas in the world u definitely need to combine more security stuff.
Strong guns the way he broke the wheel lock in half bare handed lol
At least we know your not a criminal. Lol your videos are always entertaing.
You are a cool guy!
Hello kitty stickers all over the dash should do it.
@@christienelson1437as someone who had cutesy stickers on it (including plushies), I can tell you that that was not a deterrent for a thief lol
What did you end up getting him? :)

Yep... True on both points.
I don't think they're meant to be impenetrable. They're just meant to be too much hassle and time to bother with. The longer a theft takes to do, the easier the thief can get caught.
All crooks are lazy. That is why they steal things and like going to jail for periods of their miserable lives.
I hope your hand isn't hurt too bad. I think with an angle grinder you can probably get them all out...
Had fun watching this video. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍

He gave me a much needed laugh with that 😂
Tyler, you are so fun to watch.
Most lock cylinders can be drilled out in a few seconds with an ordinary drill bit.
A towing company did that to my truck, had to replace the steering column
I was kind of curious about the seat belt wheel lock. Some of the others were pretty interesting to see, especially the shift to parking brake lock.
You place the club on wrong, it should go on like the backward slash symbol, that way the steering wheel cannot move.
One of the most informative video, thanks for spending the time and effort.
21:25 - Brother, you just found the BEST protection in 2023 for anti theft... The dreaded THIRD PEDAL.
Are you referring to a stick shift?
@@ernestjackson5812 Indeed!
Just remember, a good lock is never gonna be pick proof. It just has to be a good deterrant.
I was always told that locks are for honest people, to keep honest people honest.
locks only stop a honest thief is how I've always heard it
"I bet by beating this part down, I can probably then bea-uh... bend it off." A lifetime of thinking happened in that instance of pause.
I always appreciate your content, thanks Tyler and cheers from France)
Tres bon, mon amie,
😘 😊 😘
19:36 you didn't put it right, it must be in a steering wheel radius so it cannot be turned towards you...
Pure comedy well done tyler
Thanks for this helpful video! I'm gonna use the steering wheel bar until I get time to properly install a fuel pump switch on my 1984 Toyota Pickup truck.
That second device, i bet you can just unscrew shift knob and take it of without any tools.
We need more videos like this, this is pure gold lmao
Soooo, did you give any thought to how you were going to get these off if you destroyed the lock mechanism without getting it off?
Couple minutes of silence went by and then she came back and asked if I could drive her 😂
Don't even really need a key if you have a hill and can pop the clutch
🎉🎉🎉🎉! I would think that the combo of all those would very much slow down the thief! Cause he would have to break through all those devices!!! 😂😂😂🎉
Just imagine he loses all the keys after putting all the devices in and then has to explain why he wants him to remove twenty anti theft devices
For a car looking like that
@@vcknol2538🤣
You should send the ones with locks to lock picking lawyer!

The Interior looks nasty too. lol
Just take the starter and fuel pump relay with you
I used to do this when I had to park in shady parts of downtown. Just the fuel pump relay though. The thief would have to be very dedicated to diagnose and fix it while the alarm is going off.
The distributors rotary Arm is a good one too.
The hillbilly rigged 12Volts on the side of center dashboard is what got me 😂
Any sort of a steering wheel lock needs to be made so that you can't simply cut it off by cutting through the steering wheel
Not really. A thief is just going to move along to a car that he doesn't need to cut the wheel to steal.
I lived and worked in the bronx when the club came out. That's exactly what thieves did hck through the wheel.

I love this channel so much it's has interesting experiments with items
Those manual shift noises tho 👌they sounded crispy🤤
And that 5-speed transmission is the most effective anti-theft device of them all 😂
Tyler, you are the BEST on youtube! Smart, proffetional and so out of the box thinker, I love you
Watching him smash that alram with the hammer brought me more joy than it should have.
My man has the greatest anti theft device right in front of his face, a manual car. Lol
you could also just screw the shifter knob off and then slip it over the shaft and remove it. LOL
When i would remove the club in the 90s it was going to a chop shop anyway. Cut the wheel once and you can bend it open enough to remove the club.
Suppose the Club is installed on the back side of the steering wheel with the lock facing the dash. That would at least add to the effort. Can't get a drill in there.
I just discovered a new gem... put playback speed to 2x and watch the parts where Tyler speeds up his video. It's so funny, especially the hammering 🤣
This was pretty enlightening. I think though that the purpose of these devices isn't to make it impossible to steal a car if you have a bunch of tools at your disposal. but to make it less quick and convenient to do so. I think most car thieves want a car they can grab in a minute or two.
Easy ways to bypass these security measures:
1. remove the whole wheel and replace with the car's spare;
2. unscrew the shifter knob and lift the whole assembly off, then replace the knob;
3. Cut the steering wheel, remove the lock;
4. Undo the seatbelt clip and the whole thing comes off
5. Cut the steering wheel (again)
6. Cut the steering wheel
7. You probably actually found the quickest way.
8. Cut the steering wheel

The best anti theft device you have in that car now days is a manual transmission. So many people have no idea how to drive and operate one. Hilarious.
