I'm glad you removed those. They really made it look like you were entering a business instead of a home.

I’d have kept the doors as it made a cozy reception area

@@MewDenise I’m fully conversant with that fact, but the doors created a cozy entrance way, it would be the perfect place to “contain visitors”

I wouldn't have taken the doors away because it would destroy the Charakter and charm of the house.
When buying an oldand historic house, the goal should be to perserve its charakter and history, not renovate it to death.

I wouldn't have temoved the doors starwells aren't normally heated. Without them there would be more heat nececcary.

    What were the doors for?

I’m gathering it was a commercial use property previously. The doors would’ve created a reception area infront of the lobby space. However the main reason would’ve been to reduce the draught between the front door& bay window and the stairwell+ all those corridors leading off.

Removing a dirt area where you can store, coats and shoes isn't a very smart idea. In Winter is this room a total win. The victorian people weren't stupid. No one wants to live in house with air flow all the year around.

@@lavieestduresansconfiture3912 these doors are a 1950 addition from when the house was used as a doctors surgery. This was the waiting room. We’ve taken it back to the original layout
