Marley; I have been knitting for 78 years and no one has been able to show/teach this to me! Honestly as a Continental knitter who knits every (honestly) day of my life.I’m so happy that I found. You !!! Anne (1 happy knitter) on Ravelry. Now, back to my test knit sweater. happy
It is a delight to watch your demos. They are clear, concise and extremely simple to follow. Thank you for sharing your expertise on knitting backwards. Dolores Ungerleider.
Great lesson. It was on the verge of giving up as it seemed nigh on impossible to get the yarn over the right hand needle (continental style) & then suddenly it clicked. It is still no where near as elegant as yours but has really helped with getting the hang of entrelac. Hoping to do knit your beautiful cowl as a Christmas gift for my aunt. I’m in the adventurous beginner category and loving your videos. 🙏🏻❤️
What is wrong with purl? By the time I've learned to do this, I'll have finished the purl row. Isn't this just a way of making knitters lazy, losing skills? How does this work with lace knitting and things like nupps?
Nothing wrong with purling. And no, it does not make for lazy knitters. It is just another tool to add to your Knitting tool box. If you find you like to knit backwards on short pieces of fabric (like Entrelac) then you can use it. :)
+elisamcs1 I see what you are saying and I do think it is a bit of 'lost in translation :)' When I say out I am making the left needle, with the new stitch, that was created with the yarn over, come out of the stitch on the right hand needle. But you are absolutely correct if you want to say that I am having the right needle with the stitch go over the left. We are actually describing the action in two different ways but achieving the same outcome. Which ever way works for YOU to better understand the technique is what matters. I hope that help.
This is the best video for knitting backwards continental. The only one I understand. Thanks so much.
This will make entrelac so much easier and quicker..Thank you so much

Fantastic!
This is so easy! I don't mind purling, but I wanted to learn this for bobbles.
I’ve watched a few videos trying to learn how to do this, and yours was the easiest to follow because you did it slowly. Thanks. Now to practice.
WOW! So simple!
At least, you make it look easy!
Practice will MAKE it easy!
Thanks.
Blessings!❤️
Ahhh thank you!!! The repetitiveness you do is so effective!!!

Best video..simply put clarity in the video shes happy & bubbly an clearly articulates!!
So cool! I did this on a sample, just messing around. Now I can see doing it for real, it makes much more sense now. Thank you Marly.
OMG this is awesome! Thank you! I can't wait to try it.
Ty this is so cool! I always wondered if knitting backwards was possible, now I know it is! 😌
An amazingly clera video- the best I can find THANK YOU!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much, I will learn to knit backwards so I never have to purl again.
Fantastic!
I'm going to have to try thIs. Very cool. Thank you.
Gosh Marly this so reminds me of when my mom taught me to knit. She was left handed so her purls weremy knits.

Thanks what a great idea
Wonderful, new to me 😍
Is it possible to also do k2tog, ssk, and yo knitting backwards. I’m wondering how to work a chart without turning at all.
Cool video thanks. Can you backward knit if you have knit and purl stitches in the same row like in a seed stitch?
+LittleLambsCrochet Yes, it is possible. You would have to Purl Backwards. I will do a video on that as well soon.
Ok thanks:)
Will this work for the Big Comfy Sweater pattern with the stockinette portion and the sleeves?
awesome
So happy this video was included with the #bicraftybootcamp week 3
Does this work with seed stitch?
You are not letting go of your needle when you do the backwards Continental, the same principle can be used with Throwing going forward too.
courag1 yes I know, that is called flicking :)
Is it only using circular needles that you can knit backwards?
No, you can use straight needles as well. I just prefer circular needles.
But, purling is fun! ☹️

Great video and a very cool technique. But your words don't match the action. Consider: in, around, over and out.
+elisamcs1 how so?
+Marly Bird Maybe it's just the way my brain works, but on the third step, you are making the right needle go over the left, not out.
