    You have a fantastic ability to summarize difficult and complicated questions into straightforward, clear and inspiring explanations. Good. Saves me a lot of reading time. Just watching a video with you is enough.

      That's not how it works, you simply can't get a comprehensive idea about a subject from a short video, only a general idea.

      A Stoic would wish us the ability to love whatever happens to us and facing it with unfailing cheerfulness and strength.
      Although I obviously appreciate your comment and in a certain sense I wish and hope this for everyone as well we need to walk our path, learn and embrace the suffering in order to grow and learn and become wiser.
      Personally, I don't want a life full of joy but rather..a life full of experiences, good and bad.
      Yes, I do want to worry...in order to grow, test myself.
      I don't want an abundant source of income...I want a fulfilling way of making my income.
      And yes, I hope not to get sick however, might that be the case...I will need to embrace this as well.
      Your comment, which is full of empathy and good is the Christian way of thinking, nothing wrong with that but it is definitely not stoic.
      Amor fati !

    Many philosophies around the world boil down to "self" overcoming and transcending to the "Self". I follow Advaita Vedanta. It's one of the oldest known school of thought and basically just ancient Stoicism.

    The problem I see with this philosophy is what you consider "an inner perfection of the soul" is very subjective, susceptible to personal bias and for sure also affected by "the little men" you are talking about.
    This is why I like far more ideas of polish philosopher Jan Stachniuk, who in his works, gives the men a goal to which the divine instincts should serve, which is growth of the humanity as a whole in order to one day conquer the space and the universe. This gives you a leading sign you can follow, because each action and aspiration is put into the perspective of this ultimate goal.

      @@mikkek7555 Why you think so?
      The humanity was already able to achieve unthinkable, like a computer, nuclear fusion, and LLMs. And all of this was made by people guided only by the more "animal" side of human nature, like hedonism, personal interest and chaotic emotion. Now imagine what would happen, if all the humanity would collaborate as a whole with a pure and conscious goal of pushing the mankind forward. We could reach the stars in no time!

    Small critique.
    I think we need to be a bit more cautious of the language here.
    It sounds like you’re equating our core unchanging Self with ‘the transcendent.’
    While this is partially true, I’ve found that using this lofty language can quickly escalate to spiritual bypassing.
    I’ve found the Buddhist language to be most adequate here… the say that our core self is our ‘ground of being.’
    Lmk what u think!

    • @iamKristianBell
      @iamKristianBell  3 місяці тому +1

      I'm still trying to figure out the wording here. I believe the substance of our being, our superior self, flows forth out of the transcendent.
      The transcendent is intertwined through our essence. Our essence is just the color it takes on
      Ground of being is a great term

    I generally disagree 12:50 you could have never fought in your life and have a warriors persisting spirit. Otherwise both men in every fight would give up, from the beginning, one had to have the spirit to go on. And the other could learn this spirit like Seneca talks about. But some have it from the start. Some never get it no matter how many fights they get in.
    Rising to the challenge and not backing down has really nothing to do with experience. Just character. Its just the beginning of the story is all. The beginning of the training in the school of life, in the section of oppression and self defense.
    You have to have had a spark, to make a fire.

    • @lucky6666
      @lucky6666 3 місяці тому

      It's a choice and an experiment without experience. Experience would tell you when to go again and when to run. Going again with experience is going to take more of a warrior's spirit than just being young and eager and not knowing fully what you are doing.

    • @cam-inf-4w5

      @@lucky6666 many young men think things are worse than they are. And many old men are cowards. So i respect your opinion but still disagree generally. Im not saying the opposite of what youre saying im saying young or old the mentality of the person is the only thing that brings a warrior spirit whether its from birth or cultivated or inspired. And wisdom is ageless completely.
      You could be 5 and see a fly drown in a glass of water and realize the existential nature of the universe and what the will to live means and death and every other philosophical lesson there is to be learned. Just from the death of one fly. The philosophers didnt invent anything but only saw what was already there. Many writers write borderline word for word quotes about life without ever knowing eachother and pre internet in small towns with no libraries or a monk in the mountains or a 13 y/o poet in ancient england.

      @@cam-inf-4w5 Yes, of course it comes from the mind and there many ways and lenses.
      Suppose a person acts like a warrior just because he's naive and does the same thing over and over just because he's always done it that way. Is that spirit?😈
