I put FlatOut in my tires, but I know I'm going to need to do this sooner or later. Thank you so much for this amazingly clear tutorial - watching the brake adjustment one next!
As I worked through the process of trying to remove and then reinstall the wheel as part of diagnosing a break issue, I had so many questions. Every one of those questions was answered by re-watching this video again. God bless you. This video is a life-saver :)
I’m stumped. I’ve had my LECTRIC 2.0 step through since Dec 2021. I put 2500 miles on the original tires, and never once had a flat. Just ordered 2 new LECTRIC tires and tubes. I had a bike shop put them on, along with new brake pads. My brand new back tire has gone flat twice now and stranded me. It’s so strange because there was a pinhole sized leak in the 1st tube. I replaced the tube. Same day there’s a pinhole leak in the second tube. Filled it up with air, and the tube has slime in it. I put the bike in my shed and the tire was flat in less than a minute. We are stumped. We’ve examined the rim and tire. There’s nothing sharp in there, but the leak is in the same spot on both tubes. Has anyone ever experienced this? Could the tire be faulty? My front tire is fine.
Just got my step thru…back tire comes off the bead during turns..35 psi..left me high and dry twice☹️
Update to this post. Wrapped the rim with duct tape and haven’t had any issues. Apparently there was something pinhole size digging into the tube in the same place.
I’ve got 3500 mi on original tires.
I’ve had one flat, on rear. Stranding me once😅. Luck?
Rear tire is now treadless and I have to change it 😮.
Tire liners perhaps?
Seriously best of luck to everyone attempting to remove their rear wheel from their hub drive ebike. Spent a solid 2-3 hours watching videos on how to go about doing it after i caught an unsuspecting flat otw home on my totguard mtb eibke. Changing a flat on a regular bmx bike for years had me spoiled once i realized on an ebike its abit different, and imo more troublesome. My bike is from a different brand but thankfully in this video he actually showed the process of removing the wheel and it was similar enough to where itll help others in a similar fashion. This video is one of the very few that actually shows the process from start to finish.
Seriously though, it was such a pain to actually get the wheel off the first time. Then me being paranoid, i completely didnt pay attention to how the wheel actually came off as i spent an hour tugging away at the wheel due to it being somewhat jammed in place even after taking off all screws and whatnot. Basically panicked once i realized all the loops and whatnot id have to go through to fit the wheel back in once i changed the tube... lol. Then spent another 20 minutes figuring out the best way to fit the wires and wheel through the chain and back in place where it "makes sense", since i failed miserably getting to this part. Fortunately i finally figured it out and after 2 hours, managed to remove the rear wheel while unplugging the electronics, change the flat ( which took like a minute...just my luck), reinstall rear wheel, while readjusting my breaks and stem all in one piece.
I finally get it now when people preach about working on your own bike when trouble arises. You really do gain a sort of bond with it, and begin to truly understand how and why things work the way they do and will be able to troubleshoot in the future when things pop up. So despite it being a pain that i caught a flat on my new ebike recently, im thankful it allowed me to finally learn how to repair it myself since it honestly wasnt so bad in hindsight. Now i feel much better knowing i can troubleshoot my bike without much concern or needing to stop by my local shop everytime a simple issue pops up. With ebikes, i was apparently overthinking things since in essence, they're still regular bikes at the end of the day.
Glad to hear you got it sorted out. 👍 There's a reason it's the Dreaded Rear Wheel.
This is also why bike shops will charge as much as $50 or more, to fix a flat on one of these, plus parts. That's if they are willing to help at all.
My goal is to help show as many repairs as I can so that folks at least have some guidance when it comes to their ebike.
Although I have a bike stand, I use it to adjust the shifting and adjust the break pads. When I need to remove the front or rear tire, I find it much easier to flip the bike upside.
This sounds like a complete nightmare
@@bobthebuilder9416 lol it honestly was at the time when I first did it. But fortunately like with most things, once you do it the first time, it becomes easier each time. But yes, definitely was a nightmare the first time I did it. Thought I broke the dang bike, before finally calming down and figuring it all out step by step.
In the end, it’s much easier than it looks. But it’s one of those things where you won’t know how easy it is, until you go through it yourself, atleast once.
You saved me so much money, time, and stress with these guides. Thank you so much for helping me sell my bike
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve always struggled to learn bicycle maintenance, but really needed to change my tires, and was so intimidated. I’m so glad there was such a detailed video going over it
My son has a Heybike Ranger but I was clueless on how to repair it and no pro in the area would even touch it. Lifesaver. Thank you!
Heybike is china bikes....for the price you might get the summer out of it...not worth repairing after that
@@seas1nbv318 BS. Still going strong. Yes it's made overseas but it's been a good bike and still serving it's purpose
what would cause a shimano shifter to not be able to go back down to one? First it wouldn't go back to 1 then it was 2 now 3 is the lowest gear i can put it in... ITs a brand-new bike is it a design flaw?
Thanks so much!!! I have the 3.0 and this translates to it perfectly nonetheless, next time im hundred 100% spending the money on a stand lmao cause i spent an hour doing it without one just now and I will never do that **** again lmao. For anyone doing the 3.0 the cable is a bit shorter for power making it much easier to pull free.
Excellent guide, good enough to be used by Lectric for reference! I put re-usable zip ties on my RadMini, and got rid of the bash guard as well, so it's not so bad. When you find the wheel jammed or hard to remove, it's usually because the position of the axle rotated a bit due to motor torque, and the axle got wedged. Pre-loading the axle rotation by tightening the left nut first usually eliminates that, but in some situations I'll use a small adjustable wrench to pre-load it (opposite direction of wheel rotation). Props to Lectric for using double safety/torque plates, and thanks for the video!
Thanks for the added tips! Always appreciated 👍
I couldn't figure out how to loosen the axel. I banged on it with a hammer like i would on a regular bike and it did not work. Finally i used a monkey wrench to grip the axle and turn it in the opposite direction to jog it loose. To clarify, if it looks jammed in one direction, I would turn it in the other and it popped out. I would add to be careful not to bend it too far, just enough to loosen it.
I can’t get the damn tire back on 😡 the stupid chain thing is just forcing me out and I can’t push it any further to reach the slots HELP
I can’t get the damn tire back on 😡 the stupid chain thing is just in the way and I can’t push it any further the tire to reach the slots HELP
I got flat rear tire by a staple last week and my local pro shop don’t patch it. Replace inner tube plus labor $45. Asked to add Slime for extra, he said waste of money. Exactly a week later I got flat again. This time I learned and patch myself. Will add slime or flat out soon. Thanks for this video. I’ll have to replace both tires soon with road tires. Hope I can do it on my own. Thanks for this helpful video.
I had removed the wheels and I try to put back and the wheels got hard resistance to spin..whats the cause? Is it the motor problem? Coz I try to change the planetary gear inside but everything looks good
I dont have a safety washer on the gear side. lThe company insists that I lost it but thats impossible. I would have t remove everything to get it off. I asked them to send me a safety washer. But everytime I do this I spend many hours bahging onthe axle with q hammer. I get it done but It involves lifing it up readjusting until magiclly in finally goes all the way into the slot. I dont see how people just drop the axle in the slot I would pay somebody 50 bucks to ido this infront of me
Hi, you forgot the Ice cold "40" !!! Brand of your choice.🤣
I have a 3.0..got a rear flat.. thought I did good..motor runs bike woohoo..but I can't pedal..and it won't roll backwards..what I do wrong?
Thanks, excellent instructions, but you forgot one warning: When pulling the wheel out, be careful not to bend the derailer and break it off. That is what I just did. 😱
Bummer. Thanks for the extra tips!
Holy crap a $250 stand, how does anyone afford these things, anyone know a cheaper but also stable option ?
I always turn rear motor bikes upside down to make it much easier to install the motor. I also sometimes remove the disc brake adapter (caliper attached) to make it easier to install the wheel....I charge a premium to work on rear motor bikes...some shops won't work on them at all...PITA!
I think the cable where it goes into the hub on mine is damaged.....what the heck is that part called. Noticed my derailleur cage is AWOL.
I got the wheel back on but now my derailer wants to pop the chain off the smallest gear. I have no idea how to fix that now.
very cool, however, I took my rear fender off, it will be trick holding tire up
Make a video to show how To replace your bike latch set On the bike frame.
Thanks for the help! Don't think I could have done it without your video.
I'd probably just prefer to replace rhat zip tie with a velcro tie so that if i ever do this again, I can just reuse that velco tie.
This is good idea for preventing bike theft ,
Take rear wheel wherever u go and to work ,
How does it take to take off the wheel , and put back on ?
My Tenways bike doesn’t have that little clip for the wire making it a pain in arse
This video was very helpful in putting in a new tube in the back tire. I also installed a tire liner to prevent future Flats.
Thanks for another awesome tutorial! Chris. When you get a chance, can you make a video about how to straighten the handlebar? When I straightened the front wheel, my left side handlebar seems to be farther away from then my right side handlebar. My XP 2.0 arrived in such a condition. TIA.
Thanks, check out this video - ua-cam.com/video/G-dPjys6N3Y/v-deo.html
There is a 6mm bolt when you fold the handlebars that you need to loosen to straighten them out 👍
@@PedalWithPower Thanks Chris. I will try that!
I literally had to BEAT my axle out with a sledge hammer and a wood block!
The link for how to adjust rearbreaks is not in the description. 😂
My front wheel squeals bad since new.
Can you show the order of the bolts on the 3.0 rear tire? Thanks!!
What do you recommend for a tool kit and tire repair kit for my Lectric E bike?
Hello, great video! If I don't have this bike repair stand, can this be done by putting the bike upside down while putting the handles on blocks to protect the screen ? Thanks again!
installing the rear wheel is much easier if you flip the bike. Gravity is working against him, that why it gave him such a hard time. With a flipped bike gravity works for you. Rotate the screen out of the way so it won't touch the ground.
Just wondering if it would be easier to turn the bike upside down and let gravity to seat the wheel back into the slot especially when you work by yourself and without a bike stand?
Hi Eric, you can do that. It's just harder to work on your bike upside down. Fine for changing a flat, but you plan to start doing any mechanic work, I'd invest in a repair stand.
I will be doing a video with some tips for flipping your bike upside down soon, still working on it 👍
@@PedalWithPower Looking forward to it.
Looks to me like bike upside-down would be a lot easier.
Do they sell any of this garbage anymore?
Wait the safety washer is inside on one side and outside on the other side?
Great video, thank you!
My two safety washers, that line up with the frame, one lines up and I can get that 4mm bolt in, but the other side will not line up... it's a few degrees off, and since the axle is straight-through, I can't get the one side's safety washer in... it was when I took the wheel off, but not sure why it's off now.... hmmmmm.....
Flip the safety washer (Lectric calls it "torque arm"). Flat side faces in on one side, out on the other side.
Great video! Thank you 😊
I was just worrying about doing that this morning! Thank you so much!
Just take your time, re-installing the rear wheel is kind of a pain
where buy this tire and how much it cost
where can I buy the back hub motor with tire
hello sir this tool is 8mm wrench or 18 mm wrench?
This video was a life saver! Got my first flat on my XP 2.0, and of course it was the rear tire. Staring at all the wires, chains, spacers and bolts, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed... But after this step by step simple to understand video, I was able to do it all in under 20 min. Thanks again for making these!!
Thanks Patrick 👍 I'm glad it helped, the rear wheel can be tricky.
We have a lot of Mesquite with big thorns here in Tucson so I had endless flats a couple on the front & more on the rear tire. Finally a complete blowout of the rear tube. I bought an $83 foam liner & tube to match, new rim & motor assembly from LECTRIC. I made a DIY liner with an old tire (trimmed down) & trimmed down old tube. It's probably not as good as the foam liner but the front wheel is not so much trouble to take off & put on. With slime this arrangement should do for front & rear.
I'm watching the video how to R & R the rear tire. Seems like it should be just as good to put the bike upside down (on a pillow for the handlebars & a block under the rear carrier?
I couldn't figure out how to loosen the axel. I banged on it with a hammer like i would on a regular bike and it did not work. Finally i used a monkey wrench to grip the axle and turn it in the opposite direction to jog it loose. To clarify, if it looks jammed in one direction, I would turn it in the other and it popped out. I would add to be careful not to bend it too far, just enough to loosen it.
Great tip Dao! Sometimes the axle can get jammed in the dropout and needs to be twisted a bit before the wheel can come out.
Also when twisting it with a wrench, be mindful of the threads on the axle so you don't strip it 👍
very detailed... just what I need for my first flat after 300 miles
Thanks Aron! Flats are no fun and dealing with these rear wheels is even less funner (funner?)
Glad this helped you get sorted👍
@@PedalWithPower Do you have any thoughts about Tannus Armour for tires? I'm debating myself with the cost of it.
@@pretor706 I prefer Tannus instead of using Slime or Flat out. Nothing will stop every flat but both of these options will stop small sharp objects.
However, if run over something big enough to puncture through the Tannus it will also be too big for Flat Out or Slime to stop.
With the Tannus you can replace the tube and keep using the same Tannus Inserts, with Slime or Flat Out you will have a big mess and have to buy more Slime or Flat Out for your new tube.
Tannus Armour can also be transferred from tire to tire as you wear out your tires.
Here is my Tannus install video for Lectric - ua-cam.com/video/hHIjGFf9kRs/v-deo.html (sorry, it was my first video and not very good) I'll update it soon.
Here is my install for the Rad Expand 5 - ua-cam.com/video/r2oFP3yMJT8/v-deo.html
I also have Tannus in my Haibike 👍👍
@@PedalWithPower Thanks for taking the time and reply thoroughly. I appreciate it.
Same didn't get 300 miles before my first flat. I took it on a nice trip. Bout 20 miles. Within a week I got another flat on the way to work.
What are the options I have if I need further assistance
Thank you. Good video.
We need more like this. 👍👍
I'll keep them coming!
Seems if you used a ratchet strap through the wheel and up over the rack, it would help hold the wheel up while you adjust everything.
Good idea, that could work 👍
Okay but what if i dont want to😂
Your wheel ist spinning right
Hate these washers 😩. Thank you for the video because wow I had so much trouble on replacing tire back on frame
It is challenging, no doubt
This looks like a nightmare
It's way easier to do upside down!
Hey nice vid thanks, can that repair stand hold the weight of a scrambler style e bike? one that weighs prob 75+ lbs?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Can I use this method for the 3.0
Thanks for a great video, I put my XP upside down and it was a breeze. Although the chain got tangled up on me. When you flip the bike over, put the rack on a firm chair.
Great advice James! Since having the bike stand, I sometimes forget about working on the bike when it's flipped over
Is this the same with the xpedition?
Very good video my wife just got it not long ago finally rode it too work gets a flat good video easy to understand step by step thank you!
You're welcome, David! Glad it helped 😃
Nice explanation! 👍
Do you have to torque the axle
Can you do a video on chinging the freewheel?
looks like you found it 👍
Nice work
Thank you so much. Detailed video, was able to follow step by step, still waiting for new tube, patch on the first did not hold, I think I need training how to put patches on, nevertheless tube is not much and since more work is needed on back tire better just to replace tube..
Stop
Ok
❤I really enjoyed this video about Ebikes I have to fix mine ! I've been fixing my other bike 4 years learning 2 fix this 1 I have now
This video really demystified this whole process for me. I think the biggest hurdle for me now is not owning a bike repair stand. I'm jusy a little leary of spending $250 on a repair stand, but I can tell it's worth the price. I'll probably buy it in a few months.
Thanks man; maybe some low key background music is all I would suggest, great video and much appreciated 💯
Just had a flat on my ebike back tire.. not looking forward to this.. 😭. Great video though! Thanks!!
Someone removed the outer circlip from my ebike wheel. And it is bent and neither do I know exactly where it goes. Will it be ok to ride my bike without the circlip ?
Thanks for this. It was very helpful.
I can echo what someone else said. If you don't have a stand, turn the bike upside down to reinsert the wheel. Obviously remove mirrors and move the display out the way etc first. Before I did that I was struggling with it balanced on a box. That would have worked, awkwardly, except for the fact that you really need the pedals to rotate freely otherwise the chain tightens which prevents you from pulling the wheel up tightly which gets very frustrating. Once I turned it upside down it literally fell into place quite easily.
I had to replace my wheel because the speedometer stopped working. Apparently it's the sensors inside the hub which you can't easily replace separately. The new wheel came with new nuts and washers. I noticed that only one of the new safety washes has the hole with the flat sides. The other has a simple round hole so it doesn't lock in position on the axle. I don't think it matters once it's all screwed up tight but I don't know if that was intentional or a manufacturing error.
Thanks bro
Thank you
Gracias
Plan on buying an e-bike in the very near future. My first investment in accessories is going to be a repair stand like you use. I have several standard regular bikes in my garage that I have to stand upside down on their seats to remove wheels. The repair stand looks critical in making repairs easier. Thanks for the video.
Will need to watch. On my 3rd rear flat tire in just over 300 miles. City street junk. I'd really like to put a better tire on the rear wheel and/or tire liner. Recommendations?
Nice
Nice
This video saved me from hours of being pissed off. I changed my flat in about 30 minutes. Thanks so much 👍
The rear wheel removal seems more difficult than it actually is. I Patched my Lectric 2.0 rear wheel with no issues except I didn’t have a 19mm wrench. Lol thought I could use a socket lol. Great video.
Chris, is the axle on the gear cassette side hollow and the motor wire go through from the inside of the motor to where it connects? The plastic cap has no function other than cover the nut?
I just hit a curb and notched / bent both rims. is it supposed to be repairable ? if not where do I get new wheels ?
Your vid is the best one...right to the point.....thank you
excellent Guide. Thank you for explaining this. :)
Thanks for details it really helped..your right getting back tire in was a pain
Where did you get the bike stand?
I got mine from Amazon -- Park Tool Repair Stand -- amzn.to/3imtWoQ
It works great for electric bikes and regular bikes, very stable and it folds down when not in use.
Excellent video!! Replaced mine today following your video!
Nice video you should show us how to do Wheel removal out on the trail with no stand
Thank you for this video! Super helpful, i had to replaced my tire.
Great vid. THANK YOU so very much.
Thank you SO much for this! I finally fixed my flat tire.
Thank you for doing this. Most of the videos seem to only want to do the front wheel.
Thanks man, huge help with showing where that slotted spacer went
Best explanation video on how to remove the rear tire 👍🏼
Excellent teacher! Thank you.
