I am so glad I happened upon your channel in this video! I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the squeaking to stop on my Lectric 3.0. Honestly, it made riding not that much fun… But thanks to your suggestion and this great video, problem has been solved! Thank you!
Ordered the No Squeal and it is a really good product. Of course it is for pads that are only slightly glazed : Removing and scuffing the old pads or replacing them when worn down or just in bad shape is the only real solution then. All your posts are clearly spoken and well produced..Thanks !
Tip for surfacing the rotors…loosen calipers, wedge the 100-120 grit sandpaper, tighten calipers a bit, spin wheel and apply the brake. If you really want to get into it, have a clean cloth on the disc as it spins inwards to keep it clean from grit
I just bought a Lectric Xpedition. I tried the advice offered on Lectric's webpage of cleaning the rotors with alcohol, but that didn't help. Then I tried every kind of brake pad, I.E. Metal, semi-metal, ceramic, and organ resin. They didn't make a difference. So I shined some light through the calipers and saw a lot of empty space on the side of the rotors facing the axle. When I squeezed the brakes, only the caliper on the axle side of the brake assembly moved. So I loosened the two bolts on top that are positioned vertically (on the Xpedition) which allow you to reposition the calipers along the same axis as the axle. I positioned the calipers as far away from the hub as they would go and locked them down. There was still no daylight to be seen between the outer caliper and the rotor, but the gap between the inner caliper and the rotor was much less. After doing this, the brakes went from very loud and annoying to completely silent. Also, I can detect no rubbing when the brakes are not engaged so it seems to have worked perfectly.
Wow, third rebuke and I never even heard of bedding. I just thought squealing was just part of the deal. I'm going to sand my rotors and brakes and do this process. Thanks.
I found this extremely helpful, especially the close-ups of the process. As a woman, I'm a very visual learner, especially when it comes to mechanical maintenance. I can do it, but I gotta see it first.
Wendy, I understand your comment all too well. As a very visual person too, I need to activate as many senses as possible - especially visual. Off-topic, the same with names. I need to hear, write the name and say it aloud before it sticks. Regardless of the comment recieved, "As a woman???" , I get it. Good luck on all future bike repairs.
once again, another awesome video. Great explanation! Great job! I'll definitely be doing this. I do have a slightly bent rotor on the back of my bike and it causes my brakes to rub and I cannot get it straight so I definitely will be replacing it. can't wait for your video to show us how. thanks again for all your videos
Thanks for the videos they sure are well explained and knowledgeable I just followed these steps but not going out riding until tomorrow any tips advice or helpful stuff with taking the battery out and or the throttle cable and main source
I love your videos, you've already talked me into buying a new derailleur, freewheel, and maybe a few more things lol. One thing though, while isopropyl alcohol is just fine to handle and spill on your skin, it is incredibly toxic if ingested. That's really only an issue if someone tries to drink it in place of liquor, but its worth noting.
I would recommend using brake clean rather than alcohol. Another thing you can try is spraying the back of the pads with disc brake quiet and maybe that will help. If you're going to hand sand the rotor I'd recommend a sanding block to keep it more true than your fingers will.
I bedded mine in right when I got the bike, but my wife didn't. Her's screams mine doesn't. Now I can fix hers and she'll have one less thing to scream about!
I gave up. Cleaned pads and disc numerous times. Sanded the pads, finally replaced the pads. Still screams like a banshee. People jump out of the way….great safety warning. Learned to live with it.
Hey Chris, after using the sandpaper trick on the rotors, would you then recommend cleaning the rotors with rubbing alcohol, etc or would that be counter productive? As a side note, let me know what you think of the shimano BRM375 disc breaks as a potential upgrade to the XP 2.0. Thanks again for all the effort you put forth in your content.
Yes it's good to wipe off the rotors after sanding them. 👍 I wouldn't consider the br-m375 shimano brakes an ugrade. They are about the same. I will be trying out the Juin Tech, cable pull hydraulic brakes next week and see if those are worth it though. I'll post videos on how they do!
Mine were making an assortment of noises, from growling to eep, eep, eep, when rolling it into the garage. After a simple alignment, almost all the noise went away. All that is left is from the pad material itself, which can be dealt with later when I change them out.
Hi Chris - What brand and type of (material) pads do you use or recommend for the XP 2.0 - I added a 180 mm sram rotor on the front of mine and it definately stops better but squeals - after sanding rotor, cleaning, adjusting many times. Usually it is OK for about 5 hard stops then the squeal comes back, I have been cleaning rotor with alcohol after every ride and it is clean. Back brake is stock and does not squeal. Think maybe a different brand or type of pad may help and maybe a shimano rotor ?? The brand of pad I have on now is called POZDOZ and package says they are ceramic. I have taken them off and sanded the surface and cleaned pads a few times too. They stop fine just noisey. Thanks and "ride on"
Hi Will, Good call on the bigger rotor, that will definitely give more stopping power. Some pad and rotor combinations can make noise. You can try using these Tektro organic compound - amzn.to/3tftY7v (this will come with 2 pairs) Organic pads tend to be quieter, just don't last quite as long, but you'll have an extra pair! Ride On Will 👍
Thanks Chris I will order some. I REALLY appreciate your professional videos, they are to the point, very precise and easy to follow. Everyone needs to support your channel because it saves us all time and money.
@@wcc1945 Thanks Will! Your feedback is always appreciated 👍 I'm working on making these tutorials easier to follow and more interesting. The more of them I do, I keep learning better ways to film them. I'm glad it's helping. Ride On!

Hello, thanks for the great video! However, the MDXSB PV Bike Works Squeal Out Anti-Squeal Disc Brake Paste is out of stock and Amazon says they "don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." Do you have another recommendation? (And THEN I'll buy you a coffee! LOL)
Just converted my bike to 4 piston caliper hydraulics and couldn't get rid of the low speed squeal on front brakes. Did the routines of sanding pads and rotor. No fix! I did your WD-40 suggestion and ....boom!.....noise is gone! Thanks for the tip!
It may have been said already, but just to be sure your viewers know: Isopropyl alcohol or “rubbing” alcohol is highly toxic if ingested. You indicated otherwise.
I wish I had the V-brakes on my ebike, these pieces of crap are so unreliable, maybe it's the discs themselves that need replacing or something, but I've tried countless methods to stop the squealing and nothing works. I'm just getting my bike to a professional, I'm done fighting this annoying problem
These brake pads are a planned rip off! The brakes on my 40 year old bike are great. My brand new ebike after 400 kilometres needs pads! Hey, it’s a real fucking!

No worries, to bad about your rear brake rubbing. Sure can be annoying. I'll get that video up when I get a chance
Very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to slowly explain it.
No problem Pedro, thanks for watching! 👍
I don't have an ebike yet but I will. Subscribed. Gonna order a couple 3.0s. good info.

Good call, don't drink rubbing alcohol folks 😁
In the old days you could drink the alcohol in hospitals. Those were the days 😂

Not a commercial but I'm impressed by Muc Offs disc brake spray cleaner.

Yep Bruce, bedding them in is the key! Just sand them back down and start over 👍
Thanks for help friend
to resurface the rotor I believe steelwool would be a much better option than "sand papper"...
I gave up. Cleaned pads and disc numerous times. Sanded the pads, finally replaced the pads. Still screams like a banshee. People jump out of the way….great safety warning. Learned to live with it.
That's a bummer William. Have you tried replacing the rotors? The stock rotors are not the greatest.
Try putting graphite powder on the rotor.
The product is not good. You shouldn't have to mess with it all to grt it to work properly.
Great video! What kind of bag or pouch do you have on your handlebars?
Can you use vinegar to clean your brake pads and rotors
Really helpful tips
Me in Seattle: "Oo, I have that Banshee noise problem. Oh nevermind. It's normal. I commute on my Lectric, so I bike in the rain regularly."

Run the pads under hot water for like 30mins then soak it in a degreaser liquid

2 questions. I have a heavy 110lb ebike (Grizzly) How many miles should my pads last and should i only use steel pads because of the weight?
I was very excited trying this squeal out but it's sold out everywhere~!!! :( Good alternative maybe?
Great video thanks!
You're welcome!

Will the squeal out also sand down the break pads?
Brilliant ....thank you....
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
How about adjusting the Brakes is it the same as Bicycle Brakes?...
Please discuss delivery schedule
So far I haven’t seen any instructions on how to remove my rear wheel on my Lectric cargo bike.
Thank you!
Do you have any experience working in the trike ?
I always heard you weren't supposed to come to a complete stop while bedding new pads.
Does this work even if my bike is constantly making squeaking noise from the brakes while riding?
Yes. Just be sure to bed them in again
Wow, easy enough for a girl who knows nothing about ebike mechanics. Thanks.
What about a brake adjistment
No problems yet. Nice job. Thank you.
Sandpaper on the discs???
Putting WD-40 spray works well. Do it once a week to keep them quiet.

What about when it comes out of the box squealing? 😂
Mine did too. There was crap all over the rotor. Alcohol cleanse fixed it
Same
A little copper grease on the rear of the pads😊😊😊 hey presto!try it!
arent you not supposed to touch the disc or brake pads?
I tried rubbing alcohol several time to no avail.
Mine too. Bad brakes, bad product, and bad customer service.

100 grit sandpaper? 😂😂😂😂

I find noisy brakes are useful in warning people you are coming. Kinda like a bell. So you might want to leave than alone.
I'm on Team Bell 🔔
Don't come to a full stop while bedding--release brake once slowed.
Just get some Allen wrenches and adjust them hello
Sand paper and FULL THROTTLE gets the disc resurfaced in seconds!
should all be good to go.... squeak! lol
