That helped...thank you!
Can I replace heavy cream with something else?
Southern Living you forgot to list butter as one of the main ingredients.
I saw BUTTER how many grams was it
@@ramonecampbell1268 And they say to use vanilla but the demonstration didn't show when to put that in.
Please tell other youtubers to go straight to the point like you... Others could make this a 10min video

Especially women.

It’s kinda funny, really.

I don’t even need caramel I’m just bored lol. Good tutorial though

I want to thank you not only for the easy recipe, but for your honesty and professionalism jumping straight into the method, unlike some youtubers who their vids are pain to watch.
We're so glad you enjoyed the video, Alia!
@@southernliving can I use this for caramel apples?
IKR, someone was able to get their video to like 10 minutes
It being less thick makes it better for mixing too
@@vi0829 lol I was about to ask that I’m making caramel apples and I wanted to see if they were able to be used for them

- 1/3 cup water
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt
how many butter i have to put in? i see her put some butter.
Unsalted butter ?
DO NOT use vanilla extract! It makes it have a tart bitter taste. I tried it and I only used ONE teaspoon not 2. So just use 0 teaspoons. You’re welcome.
cales I LOVE U THANK YOU
That's
Just so you know it works fine with milk instead of heavy cream
Just a tiny bit less thick but it works the same.

My god thank you so much
Do you think you could thicken it up by adding more butter?
@@CardinalTreehouse yes, i did that and it came out hard, but a little chewy.
This video was able to help my ten-year-old sister make caramel.

200 gr sugar
80 ml water
240 gr heavy cream, if you're wondering !!

I made it with 150ml sugar, 50ml water and 150ml table cream. Any volume as long as they're 3:1:3. And I measured all of them with one measuring cup. Just do them sequentially. It's really easy and no fuss at all. Success at my first try ever!

Used this recipe tonight 3x!!!! It was so easy and the caramel was really good! Thank you...I definitely will be using this recipe again.
This was a great tutorial! The caramel turned out SO delicious. It was my first time making it too! I love how the video is to the point and so simple! Thank you so much!💛
Gotta say this turned out lovely! Only thing i did was exchange the milk with molten Iron, bit harsh in the beginning that taste, but it will grow on ye

Will that help with my iron deficiency
@@glentydrich9135 same xD
I just made this today for the first time and my caramel turned out perfect. Thank you!
Love it. Didn't know it was so easy. I usually do the can way.
If i could like multiple times i would. Not even for recipe, for duration. Straight to the point.
Great video! I tried one other video, then came back to this one because I had more success on the first try. So - got it right after about 4 tries. Use the lemon in order to ensure that you don't overcook the sugar. I used a cast iron skillet which help maintain even heat. Thank you very much Southern Living!
Dude I love how straight to the point this is
Short and to the point. Loved the way you explained. Thanks a lot!
For those who hand squeeze lemon: 1/5 of a lemon would be sufficient. Or squeeze into a cup and measure with a tea spoon.
I hand squeezed 1/4 of a lemon and is too sour. But I'm putting my tangy caramel into my chocolate cookie batter anyways! Smells heavenly!
Says two teaspoons lemon ??
best recipe ever.....!!!! so amazing
I will have to try this way.... so much easier and quick! I'm so used to doing it the old fashion way with evaporated milk .. family tradition.
Thanks for sharing!
Made this with bourbon in place of vanilla and it’s so tasty and wonderfully pourable. Thank you!
My stove caught on fire and now I’m in a hotel waiting for my insurance to repair the damages

@Maddy Grayson yayyyy i bout cocunt cream just to try it out
Thank you for this recipe. Made it twice already. It was perfect. My madam and her niece thought it was ready made caramel sauce from supermarket.

I made homemade caramel twice and each time it came out delicious......Thank you!
Thank you! I tried few recipes but only yours worked! Really nice! 👍🏻🙏🏻
Thank you for the recipe. I tried making caramel for the first time and it wasn't bad for a first try 😅
If you're using butter, here's the measurements I used: About 2 table spoons is fine, although if you think its not thick enough you could add another table spoon or so. Also, make sure it's softened.
Petpurrveyor thank you
Great recipe! Used this recipe when I made caramel for the first time, and it worked perfectly! I added some salt in the end, and plan to add ginger the next time! Thanks :)
I just did it and it’s perfect!! Thank you
After watching 2 other videos and 2 failed attempts of carmelizing sugar, this video saved the day. The instructions were clearly explained and the tidbit on using lemon juice was the key to my success. Good instructional video.
Great to hear, Arden! Glad you enjoyed.
Great! Did you use butter? I don't see it in the description.
Oh snap! I'm so adding this into my macchiato... thank you💚
added to my latte!!!
OMG, this is really great recipe. Thank you very much! Our kids love this!
Quick , well explain , simple and effective tutorial .this is brilliant
It's important to remember temperature when you're working with your ingredients. Your sugar is likely to be stored at room temperature but you cream may have been refrigerated. I think it's best that the cream is room temperature before you add it in or it may spoil the process. *I am not a candy maker* by any means.
Imo, i reckon the cream should be cold so it slows the cooking process of the caramel
Southern living, thank you so much for this fast, easy and delicious caramel recipe. Because of you I got it right the first time around and it is truly delicious! Thanks again for this keeper!!! ❤️
I'm making Homemade caramel sauce for my sister for Christmas. So this is perfect. Thank you for the recipe. My sister is going to LOVE this!
I don’t think this recipe is for sauce. Just heat a can of Eagle-Brand milk for sauce
Amazing recipe and so quick . Thanks for sharing
I'm stoned out of my gourd and I just made this. If I can make this while stoned, without burning it, to put on top of brownies, y'all can too.
bro this shit did not work and im sober how in the hell did i do it wrong
@@ceciliabrooks7936 Have you tried repeating the recipe while stoned?
Took me 2 attempts sober, super high heat!
Thank you for the instructions! I made excellent caramel sauce using your recipe.
Can I use regular salt??
hi
I screwed up a batch of caramel having never made it before, and this video saved my life for batch 2, thank you, I am in awe
I made this recipe but used milk (lesser amount). I got my desired results. Thank you!
Here in Hawaii I make wet caramel like this with a little fresh pineapple juice instead of lemon and condensed milk with a touch of sea salt.
I use a Pyrex pot with a lid to help avoid crystals.
This is the fastest method I know of.
Right before the caramel is dark enough I remove from The heat and add the condensed milk .
Do you use a cup of condensed milk to a cup of sugar? Is there any heavy cream or is it just the condensed milk?
Here's an easier life hack for caramel:
Step 1: Kidnap a professional chef Step 2: Force them at gunpoint to make the best dang caramel or ELSE
Step 3: PROFIT
Reminds me of a film where they kidnapped the grandma, she burned her own "SNAPS" liquer and was a fantastic cook. In the end they didnot want to give the grandma back. Hugs.

Thank you. I just got so annoyed when I typed caramel sauce in the search box and found a ridiculous amount of 10 minute videos.
I understand this is a full time job for some people and I definitely support working hard for your family . I’ll get over it....definitely my own issue....but thank you. Thank you for for providing a quick easy video as it’s 3 on Sunday morning snd I just want something quick and simple. 👍🏼
Easy; step 1: boil sugar and water.
Step 2: throw sauce pot away.
walter kersting 😂
Pour water in the remainder of the pot and boil it. Makes your life 100x easier.
The key is to NOT STIR it will crystallize n stick to the side when water is added to sugar stir lentils to not hit the sides then leave it to boil when brown gently wave the pot to stir it once again . Dont wait to long cause it continues to brown even after off the heat
Worked amazing thank you!!
It sounds sooooo easy. I'll give it a try!
I like this recipe a lot better than one of the ones i previously used. A few months ago i was making caramel and once i finished making it i poured it in a bowl to let it cool. The caramel ended up going all over my fingers. I immediately rinsed it off. The only person home with me was my brother. And neither of us had anyway to go anywhere. So i had skin that was peeling off and burning. And i had to take a hammer and smash an ice block cause thats all we had. And then i found out your supposed to use water. So then i sat for 7 hours with my hand in water. And yes that may seem like an extreme. But the only time i left it out of water was to go to the grocery story when i finally had transportation. And even with pressure on it the whole time. I still managed to be screaming in the store. When i got home i put it back in water. and slept with my hand in water. when i woke up my skin looked awful. Currently im still healing. So just a warning. When the caramel is done being made. The after steps could be dangerous.
Mental Purge : I am sorry to hear that. Hope you are ok now. I used today workglasses, ffp2 mask and hand gloves😀
In the recipe u give the butter amount is not mentioned.

First time trying and my Carmel came out perfectly.
That seems.... easy.... Until you're actually making it 😂
Looked easy but I failed miserably... Lost a pot in the process to... XD
"lost a pot" ? it stuck/burnt to the bottom? or it just kinda said "nope this persons cooking is horrible i'm outa here!"?
if the first then chances are its possible but difficult/work intensive to salvage.

I would think it would be cheaper to just go buy the caramel sauce that run a stove for 3 hours...
Its called dulce de leche not caramel
That is not caramel.
I'm Filipino as well.
What you're saying is dulce de leche. And we also use condensed milk as another way to make yema. :)
