I loved Final Bout. One of the game modes allows you to train your own version of a character and make them strong. If I recall, CPU SSJ 4 Goku was near impossible to beat in this mode. But if you keep training your character you'll eventually be so strong you can 1 tap him with a weak punch. You could then save this character and play against other peoples trained characters. Fun times when it was all there was in terms of 3D Dragon Ball games. I had an imported version and modded PSOne.
Taiketsu is the best Dragon Ball Z fighting game where Vegeta turns into a giant foot. Ultimate Battle 22 is the best Dragon Ball Z game where Gogeta is named Vegetto. Final Bout is the best fighting Dragon Ball GT game. Ultimate Tenkaichi is the best Dragon Ball Z game with a Rock/Paper/Scissor fighting mechanic. Sagas is not only the best Dragon Ball Z game with local co-op, but also the second best Dragon Ball Z game where Future One-Arm-Gohan is a playable character. Legacy of Goku 1 is the best Dragon Ball Z rpg game where Goku can learn the Taiyoken.
Funfact : Webfoot is responsible for developing two of the worst GBA games I've ever played (LOG1 and Taiketsu) but also my favorite GBA game ever (LOG2)
0:39 And yet he still has nothing on Alolan Exeggutor (which isn't even the tallest pokemon but never fits in frame in Gen 7 at all or in Let's Go's stat screen even though both games have the much taller Wailord, which does fit on-screen at all times)
Fun Legacy of Goku fact: all bosses and enemies - and I mean all of them - can be cheesed if you take them on one at a time. If you are slightly off center from them, sometimes their pathfinding AI will just give up and you can take easy pot shots at them with punches or ki blast. This is how I beat the game as a kid because I didn't understand what solar flare was doing.
It didn't. You just changed your views for the worst. Saying "how poorly it held up" is a purely superficial and detracting way of pointing out how it represents the era in which it was made, a factor that should never be considered an imperfection. You're essentially saying that it's too indicative of its time to be good, which is kooky talk.
@@imfsresidentotaku9699 Your point would be very good in a different context, but here, it sounds like you're invalidating this person by simply saying they don't like the game anymore. Just let them dislike it. Also, yeah. Over a year old response, I know. People reply to stuff I've posted several years ago most of the time, so I just got used to the pattern.
I've never played those bad, older fighting games, so I can't say anything about them. But I have played the other three and for me, the worst one was easily Legacy of Goku. Sagas had issues, but if you weren't trying to cheese things, there was still some fun to be had there (including just making fun of the animations and stuff), and it could be challenging at times. And combos DID feel good to use. But there is basically nothing redeemable in Legacy of Goku. The beginning of the game is such a slog, forcing you to grind out since you can't even fight a wolf without dying. Goku's not saving anybody if he can't beat a single wolf, let alone the dinosaurs they put you up against.
"But there is basically nothing redeemable in Legacy of Goku." Any statement as broad and pessimistic as that is highly questionable and most likely wrong. And if you "never played any of those bad, old fighting games," how can you know that they're "bad"? You can't. That statement self-negates and is therefore impossible.
@@imfsresidentotaku9699 I did say 'basically'. It did lay the foundation for Legacy of Goku 2, which is a FANTASTIC game (if a bit grindy). But LoG1 is bad from start to finish. The art style isn't awful, but the portraits are pretty bad, thought the spritework itself is pretty decent. The gameplay is atrocious: you have no range to your punches, your enemies don't flinch or anything and will almost always have a larger range than you. Meaning your only real combat option if you don't want to get annihilated by even the most weak and basic enemies is a ki blast; but each ki blast uses an absurd amount of your ki energy and even dumping a full meter isn't enough to kill a wolf at the start of the game iirc. So your only option is to sit there and grind on snakes forever to get strong enough that you can kill them without getting annihilated. If I had to pick some things I think were even remotely good about the game, it's this: Solar Flare stuns even boss characters, letting you punch them for a lot of damage. But the FRAME they come out, they will hit you back for massive damage. But still, Solar Flare is a godsend, even if it's frustratingly ki-consuming, so your boss fight strategy revolves around using it, then dealing as much damage as you can, then running away from the boss until your ki recharges. The other thing is flight. The game limits how much you can fly and you have to pick up items on the ground to restore your flight gauge. The limited flight is frustrating at first, but it makes sense given that Goku wasn't using flight much until later. Plus, it lets them do some vaguely interesting puzzles here and there regarding flight. However, I cannot think of anything else that made me feel good about this game. Goku's not even IN the majority of the Namek saga, so it literally skips straight to the Ginyu Force when you beat Vegeta. Which is so absurd and jarring that it's actually kind of funny~
Oh man I remember abandoning legacy of goku in that pyramid maze. Couldn’t figure it out as a kid. Got legacy II the following year loved it and when I was like 15 or so went back and with internet hints was able to get out and finish that game. Also, sagas, fun in theory but wears off fast.
To be fair I played 🤣 dragonball finalbout despite how teribble it was and is now. I enjoyed the meteor move combo, build up mode and trash talk was top tier at times. Goku after beating an enemy: Come back after you train some more 💀

Almost everyone's positive review for Sagas comes from a nostaglic lense. The concept, and memories of the game was great. Before online gaming became popular, playing co-op offline with people in real life, in story mode felt so magical. Great concept on paper.
I remember having such high hopes for ultimate tenkiaichi.. and played it for maybe an hour and put it down to never pick it back up. It's exactly as you said and I remember having whole arguments with friends who dared defend this game. Visually, it's amazing but everything else was God awful!

ultimate battle 22 and final bout were great. The real issues for them were that they were designed for a set of controllers that were pretty rare in the west and worse still, all of the move combos were only included in the original booklet that came with the game. If you lose that booklet, you have nothing. Said booklet also includes the cheat code to change the game into Ultimate Battle 27, which includes 5 more characters but in order to do it, it takes a REALLY FAST input time. For the time, both games included a unique feature that allowed you to custom-train your characters, so if you played long enough, you could max every stat on every character.
I have some hilarious stories to share about Final Bout. When I got the game as a kid, I only watched the show up until Cell. So I didn’t know any of the characters from Buu’s arc onwards. So I made up my own stories about them. In my stories, Kid Buu was Frieza and Cell’s DAUGHTER for some reason (Buu was a girl in my mind because he was pink of course). Also since I didn’t know adult or Ultimate Gohan yet, I thought that cool guy in the intro was Yamcha, and I was like “oh so Yamcha is powerful now?”
ultimate battle 22 was the first DBZ game I ever played and my brother and i would play it constantly. back then, it was a fun game, totally legit. Now it's a piece of hilarious nostalgia
Oh man, being a kid and playing Dragon Ball Final Bout for the first time, such an amazing intro for the absolute worst Dragon Ball ever, I remember those times!
In Sagas, collecting all the dragon balls and speaking to Dende at 7:52 are mandatory to reach the boss, but when I was a kid I deliberately collected the Dragonball behind dende without walking into his trigger zone. What happened when I tried to progress was an ultra rare dialogue of King Kai (instead of Bulma?) telling me to find dende first.. No where else did I hear King kai in the game
The strat for the LoG game is to get hit when your about to start flying. It automatically locks you into the fly mode and takes your health bar away. Ur basically invincible until you try to fly again.
I wasn’t the biggest DBZ fan as a teen, but I played Tenkaichi 3 on my friend’s Wii, and I knew was hooked. I asked him if he knew any other games like it cause I couldn’t find BT3 anywhere, and he gave me his copy of Sagas on the GameCube. He said he “played it enough” and that he “wouldn’t miss it” and while I was confused initially, I accepted because idk why wouldn’t I. When I got home later to play it, I finally understood why he gave the game to me for free… Although admittedly, I did have some amount of fun with it at the time, what with how bad it was.😂
Taiketsu and supersonic warriors I was addicted to bringing them every where and playing them. I guess I don’t hate the game as much as other people because I took time learn in and understand the pros and cons of it haha!

I remember right after HS dragonball GT final bout came out for PlayStation. It wasn’t the best but it was all we had at the time. The beam struggles though 😂
The story of DBZ is interesting, but I can only witness the birth of a Super Saiyan and beat Frieza on Namek so many times before it loses its charm. I wish they'd give an all new story or something because the gameplay is fun in games like Xenoverse 2, but having to trudge through the same story for the 50th time makes it feel more like a break between chores than a reward for getting so far.

A crossover I didn't expect but shall relish in.
The narration of DBZ Legacy of Goku's filler is so hilarious !
Oh my god I had so much nostalgia for Legacy of Goku, then when I decided to replay it a few years ago I was so disappointed by how poorly it held up
No fucking kidding. It was always crazy to me how bad that game was, even as a child. I even had to use a Nintendo Power magazine to finish the game.
Man that’s some great theme music you got there. It’s like music to my ears. For an idea maybe you could rate rare games from order of release
The music in Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout was really good because Kenji Yamamoto plagarised a lot of music.
Probably why it was good.
Perfect cell theme in UB22 still kicks ass
3:09 - The pitched up beginning of Trunk’s theme kind of hits.
I was stuck in that temple for 6 months and randomly stumbled across the invisible wall to get the green artifact. Lol good times
Taiketsu literally looks like im watching dbz cutscenes in robotchicken on adult swim
To be fair I played 🤣 dragonball finalbout despite how teribble it was and is now.
I enjoyed the meteor move combo, build up mode and trash talk was top tier at times.
Goku after beating an enemy:
Come back after you train some more 💀
I would love to see a video maybe on your favorite ps2 titles? I just recently have picked one up at my local thrift store and I've never played anything related to the ps2 seeing as I grew up with the xbox 360 and ps3! I would love some recommendations or just games you enjoy today, or have enjoyed in your past! I love the content as always, I appreciate you and your videos dearly.
taiketsu proudly had "first time playing as BROLY!" as a selling point on its box lol. he wasn't that much fun to play as either.
I rememeber that! Lmao. He had the most op special in the game though as it did half health. I rememeber spamming it on the ai.
Almost everyone's positive review for Sagas comes from a nostaglic lense. The concept, and memories of the game was great. Before online gaming became popular, playing co-op offline with people in real life, in story mode felt so magical. Great concept on paper.
I remember playing Final Bout on a emulator it was a momentous occasion when we did a super move
Wow, this is a great video. We should collab sometime! (Thanks for having me ♥)
I remember having such high hopes for ultimate tenkiaichi.. and played it for maybe an hour and put it down to never pick it back up. It's exactly as you said and I remember having whole arguments with friends who dared defend this game. Visually, it's amazing but everything else was God awful!
Lol 😂 I would be that friend you would be also arguing with as well, because I love the game. Sorry it didn’t live up to your hyped though, I know how that can be sometimes.
It's weird to look at Legacy of Goku but now Kakarot on the PS5.
I can understand why these dragonball games aren't so great, but i believe in my opinion that Ultimate Tenkaichi is one of my favorites! Again i respect all what taste they have! Thank you for allowing me to express my opinion!
I played final bout back when block buster was around. Also the original had the opening song and get this steve Blum voiced goku.
The US always took out the vocals for the intro in games 😮💨
1:19 While he doesn't have one of those on account of namekians being anthro slugs with skin (and presumably skeletal structures, it's not very clear), that _is_ pretty on-brand for #18
0:59 i lol'd so hard 😂
Legacy of Goku was so clunky and weird but I loved it, so much nostalgia for that one!
ultimate battle 22 and final bout were great.
It's funny how at this point PS1 Hagrid gets mentioned in every video.
ultimate battle 22 was the first DBZ game I ever played and my brother and i would play it constantly. back then, it was a fun game, totally legit. Now it's a piece of hilarious nostalgia
Facts!!!
4:40 Fusions are supposed to be greater than the sum of their parts so I'm guessing the "half goku" is "little goku"
I grew up playing the absolute hell out of Ultimate Battle 22. ❤
Dragon ball final bout was fire back in the day. We played it in the 90s on a modded ps1
Tbh Chichi being on the cover of an adult makes getting on Gohan to study and get a good job make a lot more sense
I played the crap out of Ultimate battle 22 and dbz final bout growing up. The character select screen was awesome to look at lol.
I remember thinking Sagas was a fun game as a kid. Then I got Budokai Tenkaichi 2… 😳
Ultimate Tenkaichi had awesome gameplay and I love the 3D graphics,
I hope the game is remastered and improved on!!
Big rock paper scissors fan then?
Just discovered your channel dude, I'm hooked! Nostalgia city. Keep up the great vids 😎
When I got home later to play it, I finally understood why he gave the game to me for free… Although admittedly, I did have some amount of fun with it at the time, what with how bad it was.😂
Kids today have no idea how lucky they are. Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout was all we had, and they SUCKED BALLS
You should've talked about Battle Of Z as well
I never really got to play the Budokai tenkaichi games when i was younger but BOY did I have ALL of these
The craziest thing about this is the people who made Taiketsu then went on to make Legacy of Goku.
Ultimate Tenkaichi was basic and barebones, but I have really fond memories of it. Especially the banger menu music.
I grew up with Taiketsu, Ultimate battle 22 and Legacy of Goku. Despite their flaws, still love those games.
Taiketsu and supersonic warriors I was addicted to bringing them every where and playing them. I guess I don’t hate the game as much as other people because I took time learn in and understand the pros and cons of it haha!
@@midsectionmark8956 Exactly! I played both games a ton!
Buying UT was the saddest moment of my childhood after being hooked on raging blast 1
Flandrew I been a subscriber to your channel since the star wars episode. Been a huge fan
I live in Vegas should you ever go to Vegas for Vacation I'll treat you and your brother out to a arcade or something.
Thank you
@@Flandrew you rock man, continue with your channel. You very clever writing and scripts and I can totally relate with you growing up poor and having nostalgic feeling towards video games we played because that is all we had back then so I totally respect you for that
I remember asking for a dragon ball game for Christmas, but I got taiketsu. I was so happy and disappointed all within like 15 minutes 🤣
I remember Taiketsu being bad but I can't believe i forgot how insane those visuals were 😂
I had ultimate battle 22 when I was a kid. I remember trying to unlock the characters and it being really hard. I also remember playing sagas as a kid and enjoying it.
0:58 Eh, I prefer Beyblade swordplay like that one large sword class in in MapleStory 2 (forgot which one and the global servers are dead now so I can't check) or Slayer in PSO2NGS. Now THAT'S Beyblade.
the crazy thing about legacy of goku is how good the sequels were. i’ve never seen such a huge jump in quality between two games
I am still a huge fan of GT final bout love this game !!!
nah, it's just the nostalgic memories. The game actually fucking sucks, and I played it A LOT as a kid. Literally the only good thing about the game is the opening cutscene (oh and the soundtrack is awesome too)
@@davion4777 i still like it because its a 3d super butoden 2-3 and i like those game too !!!
@@davion4777 I 100% agree and I still wouldn't mind going back to build up mode just because. Broken game, broken mode, what's not to love besides all of it?
Agree i remember play vs with my friend and broke so many joy stick
Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout are actually fire.
I wish they’d attempt something like Sagas again. I feel like the lessons learned from it and the additional content super and GT provided could do well in a Sagas format.
DBZ sagas sagas is a game you had to have in the era of friends coming over to play multiplayer at your house lol I can honestly say I enjoyed every moment played with my friends
I completed Sagas as a kid a few times (bad game, yes, but cheap at gamestop and it had dragon ball z). Playing as Bardock and Broly almost made beating the game worth it. But yeah, whole reason I'm leaving this comment is to let you know that the thing Gohan was doing to try and fly to dende does work if you wiggle around enough. I never bothered to learn the actual way you're supposed to get there.
Frandrew I bet you will reach the 100k subscriber by the end of this year. You deserve it. And I recommend Monster Hunter, you will love it. Monster Hunter United is the best in the series and world , iceborne
I had a Dragon Ball game on a blue floppy disk. You only could play as Goku or Krillin, and we swore we unlocked Piccolo somehow.
Ultimate battle 22 is actually pretty good if you take the time to figure it out. Also ultimate tenkaichi is great if you want something you can relaxe to. Its amazing to watch.
Look dragon ball saga may not been the best but to me this is where I got into the whole franchise thanks to my uncle so it has a special place in my heart
Ultimate battle 22... That has to be the worst waste of money I've ever spent. Pisses me off more than the money I've downright lost on online scams.
For those who don't know, ultimate battle 22 was released in 1995 in Japan and Europe.
Final bout was released in 1997 in JAP and EU also... at that time the baby saga in DBGT was already over, in Japan, as it started in 1996 😉
Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout was decent back then. It was one of the few Dragon Ball games you can actually enjoy.
1:47 I think reused that frame for the tenkaichi 2 cover
I promise you the only nostalgia of Sagas was the utter disappointment we all felt 2 minutes in to playing
No mention of Legendary Super Warriors for the GBC?
Can't believe you're talking smack about Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout,
loved them as a kid lol
Love your channel though
As someone who has played most of these, the worst one is a contest between LoG1 and Final Bout.
I bought "Sagas" for $3-$4. I was 15 in 2005. Me and my boy beat it. We smoked and couldn't stop laughing.😂
That's a f**king beautiful memory lmao. 🤣 I have similar stories of smoking and playing the Tenkaichi games.
I know nothing about DBZ and I found this video entertaining!
Final Bout might be bad for today's standards, but oh boy it was the most fantastic thing ever when I was a kid
I remember right after HS dragonball GT final bout came out for PlayStation. It wasn’t the best but it was all we had at the time. The beam struggles though 😂
I wanted final bout so bad as a kid but could never find it
Legacy of Goku? This game was awesome. Best sound track, mechanics were awesome, even with the filler, this game is awesome
