i just want the game remastered, thats my only wish, I saw this account called Z Hacks create some new sprite character and it looked amazing. WOuld love to get the game with those mods on the emulator
Currently playing Legacy of Goku II and I’m absolutely loving it. The one thing I think people forget to mention is how good the music is. Obviously it’s Dragonball Z’s score but god damn the Gingertown soundtrack as well as Southern Continent and Warlord’s Territory are straight up 🔥
Honestly it makes sense why Legacy of Goku 2 didn't sell as well as the first, it was marketed as a sequel to a piece of shovelware. I mean what if they called Budokai 1 GT Final Bout 2, I don't think it would have sold well. I doubt people skipped over 2 because they didn't care, they probably just didn't want to get burned again.
I agree because that’s exactly why I chose not to buy it. I remember having seeing legacy of goku in gamepro magazine (showing my age), and thinking finally an American dbz game. It was so bad I tried to convince myself it was good. I skipped the second one but played buu’s fury which I enjoyed
@@Joltstor I started with LOG 2, having no idea how bad the first game was. I remember, as a kid, having to choose between LOG 1 or FF Tactics, dodged a bullet by picking FF Tactics.
@@fullwindman8380 you definitely did. Like I grew up on fighting games and once I got introduced to dbz you knew there had to be a good one around the corner. There was such a gap between my introduction to dbz and the first budokai that I was willing to take anything. I played final bout and it was ok but I did not know what was going on. I really wanted LOG1 to be something it was never gonna be. So much disappointment lol
@@Joltstor I was really young when DBZ blew up here, by the time I was a bit older, and got into it, Budokai 1 was already out. Since I was still playing through that at the time, LOG 1 wasn't as appealing compared to other GBA games.
My first play through of Buu’s Fury as a kid I had no clue you could allocate stats and played through the whole thing raw. I relied entirely on the equipment/gear for buffs. It feels like the correct difficulty level, a grind but doable
Buu's Fury was my favorite of the three. 2 was very good, but I wasn't a fan of the way they did the SSJ transformation, I liked how BF gave it it's own energy bar on top of the normal one. I also HATED the bit with the eggs. Every single time I tried doing that, it took me way longer than I thought it should have
Exactly why it’s an easier game. I love 3 as well. I’ve played it like 15+ times I’m sure. Just don’t use the stat points as much and the game can be more difficult
nah, they made it too easy. its actually more balanced in Log2, since it means you cant spam SSJ and have to be more strategic on when to use it. Buus fury is fun, but Log2 is alot more rewarding and a better polished game
@@eyecontrol4900 I actually don't think it has to be like that. You can have all the improvements and extra things that Buu's Fury added, like equipment and separate energy bars, and still have a challenging game, they just didn't. I'm not a fan of arbitrarily limiting the player in random ways like having to keep the energy meter going off RNG food in rocks i n LoG2, lol. Give us a solid system like Buu's Fury's improvements AND test our mastery of the mechanics, we can have both!
@@eyecontrol4900 It made LOG2 more difficult but it also ruins the power fantasy element of transforming into super Sayan...I don't remember transforming into super Sayan at all by choice in LoG2 cause I would burn through my ki and for me it was easier to not use it and rather use it to attack. A good solution. There are problems with buu's fury as well mostly the fact that the enemies feel way weaker because you can corner them and beat the living hell out of them...they shouldn't have removed the wall bounce, charge attacks and the exploding enemies and maybe made the enemies more difficult all of this is nitpicking...if you want to make the game more difficult you can by simply not utilising your stat points
Overpowered for buus fury is an understatement. During chapter 3 I missed gotens location and found the 140 door for Gohan and like an idiot trained to 140. Took me weeks and I STILL didn’t find goten but Gohan killed everything in his path after that
Lol, this happened to me also! First time i played it back in 05, i trained like 3weeks to open that stupid door. Gave the game to a friend, since I was stuck, and he blitzed through up to the world tournament stage. There was no arrow or indicator to show that the lv65 door was north of those trees.
Buu's fury makes you feel like one punch man if you allocate your points to melee attacks. Also there was a wall bounce mechanic in LOG2 in which if you cornered an opponent to the wall they will bounce away. It was missing in Buu's Fury, which means pretty much any boss is dead if you are able to get them against the wall and mash punch.
Honestly this is easily the reason why I prefer LOG2's combat system. It felt a lot more engaging/challenging and you couldn't cheese your way out of fights.
You made a mistake actually The golden caps enable flight from any point without the flight map, the scouter upgrade allows you to see the greyed out unexplored areas.
These games are so precious to me. I remember getting LoG1 with a gameboy advance and LoG2 with an SP. I always thought 1 was so hard (not realizing it was just bad lol) but I adored 2, still do. These and the Budokai games are really how I got into Dragon Ball because I wasn’t much of a tv watcher and it’s hard to get all of the story when you miss episodes lol
A little tip for buus fury that I even did as a kid: Distribute your stats evenly and the game won’t feel like one punch man. You’ll feel more satisfied. Specials will still be weak though sadly.
The one thing that i loved that the Legacy of Goku games did and something that made them unique compared to all the other Dragonball games was that they used the Funimaiton/Falcuner soundtrack.
11:31 The stats points can be allocated in Endurance (Decreases damage taken), Power (Increases special moves damage) and Strength (Increases basic attacks damage), if your basic attacks are doing more damage than your supers is because of how you distributed the attribute points, not because of the game itself (When replaying it i rarely bother with Strength and usually keep power to 1/2 of the character lvl to keep things entertaining). Also something else that the game added was different levels for special attacks, with similar the attacks having a different look/effect after reaching the max lvl (An example of this is the Kamehameha, shared by Goku, Gohan and Goten, it looks the same at levels 1 and 2, but 3 makes them take different attributes, Gohan becomes yellowish, Goku gets shiny particles in his and can't remember Goten's but i know it's different).
Put the same points into Power and Strength and tell me specials aren't weak. It takes the double or more stat points to match special damage to melee. Plus, melee has a crit chance and is not limited by meter. Specials should've been way stronger or melee way weaker (since difficulty is kind of easy anyway)
I have played this game over 30 times and basic attacks are by far more powerful its not close it doesn't matter how many points you put into specials they can't compete
Kind of hard to believe we spent so much time on the three Game Boy DBZ RPG titles that we are only now ranking them. Goes to show that even the handhelds did offer quite a bit of content (the 2nd and 3rd ones anyway).
I have the bias of playing Buu's Fury first as a kid, so less concerns about it challenging me, but going back to LoG2 made me miss so much about Buu's Fury. Beating LoG1 was hilarious though, constantly abusing solar flare and running. Ultimately, I think due to the style of the games, the Buu Arc lent itself best as the narrative, with the constant new forms and character jumping and having a whole cast of saiyans to play and distributing points on them in different ways to adjust your playstyle. Being Piccolo is always great but he works better in games where his fighting style can shine more with more melee options and some degree of battlefield manipulation.
Log2 has better balance and less grinding compared to Buus fury. The lv85 gohan door at babidi's ship gets me every time, since theres no warning you have to grind him. Same with the two lv140 doors near the end. There isnt a single fight in Buus fury as challenging as SSJ trunks v Cell or the final Cooler fight. It gets way too easy during the mid to late game.
I’ve never played LOG1 and was lucky to see LOG2 on clearance at GameStop in ‘08. Ten years later I got Buus Fury, and I love that aswell, but BF was incredibly easier because of the point system with leveling up and made it a walk in the park if you upgraded the strength stat to the max, which for me made BF not as good as LOG2, but both were amazing.
I played through the series a few years ago and I refuse to believe that it's possible to complete Legacy of Goku in 3 hours, it took me a whole afternoon to play through the game up until defeating Raditz, and to this day it's the only game I've ever quit as an adult for being too challenging lol. I had Legacy of Goku 2 as a kid so it's nostalgic but imo Buu's Fury is by far the best in the series
Update. I don't know what I was thinking when I said LOG1 was 3 hours long. It definitely isn't, took me way longer to beat it. It is much shorter than the other 2 games though, something like 6 hours or so, assuming you don't get stuck looking for what to do. The only explanation I have for this mistake, is that I've played all 3 games before writing the review for LOG1. At that point, that detail elluded me. I saw "3 hours" on a random review and ran with it because "it sounded right". Upon reviewing the footage I had, it's closer to double that. But to those saying "it's not possible"... the speedrun is close to 20 minutes. Just sayin.
As an early gba game, legacy one was memorable because it actually had sean schemmels voice and an animated cutscene. Both of those things were witchcraft going from gbc to gba back then.
@@DreadBoi504 It's not just about the saga. The game has amazing side missions that enhance your progress. You get to interact with NPCs, making the experience even more immersive. Legacy of goku 2 is a masterpiece!
-----------Thats why Buu's Fury is my absolute favorite, from the intro. the ambience, the side story and main plot until the end of the game were all intriguing. the equipment and stats along with even more collectibles really made it feel like the fleshed out gba rpg that the series always wanted to be.
Every games more fun with a friend. But as is sagas is actually terrible. I wouldn't recommend him playing. The surprise Brody unlock was cool as a kid tho
@@pretentiouscarrot4292 I like Sagas, it is too short, too easy and has too many bugs, but i still visit it from time to time, it should have gotten a continuation/sequel, its base is really solid.
@Manuel Emilio Novas Gómez there's alot more problems in the game then just how t runs. Combats boring so is exploration. Also the presentation was gross. I can see a coop dbz adventure game being really cool. A reworked version of sagas that'd go all the way up to super would slam. I'd be okay with them making Kakarot coop
One thing he forgot to mention that was very integral at the time to 2 and 3 were how accurate they felt to the show. Opening with compressed video files from the show, the games had GBA remixes of songs from the show that was on TV at the time, with cutscenes using the same script. Every kid growing up with the dub felt like they were playing the show itself.
Man, Legacy of Goku 2 was always my favorite Dragon Ball game, and even one of my favorite GBA games honestly. It was soooo impressive for that little handheld and showed just how mucha game could do in handheld form factor back then. Legacy of Goku 1 was actually my first Dragon Ball game ever, and while I enjoyed it as a kid and getting to explore that world and play through iconic moments, I also remember getting very frustrated throughout. I still wanted Legacy of Goku 2 though as soon as it came out, and I think that also just enhanced my love for it so much too, seeing just how much progress was made between the first and second game. I still haven't played through Kakarot, just played a little bit of the beginning, but I'm hoping it can live up to my idea of a modern console Legacy of Goku game. It seemed like it was going to be a great time, and I love Cyberconnect2, so I'm thinking it'll be up there as a great Dragon Ball game for me.
LoG 2, Buu's Fury, and Dragonball Advanced Adventure are my top 3 Dragonball games by a mile (not counting fan games), the GBA has a GOATed library honestly.
@@Globku ya I was 10 😂. It wasn’t really a problem until I fought those robots in the desert as Adult Gohan . They where hard to kill and have very little exp so I knew something was wrong
@@jgbenji7979 to my experience, even if you extra leveled up before fat buu, the game remove gohan's transformation and gives you 90 more points instead as the mystic training. wich sounds cool and overpowered, but in reality gohan is the weakest of the characters (even goten and trunks without fusion have better stats). that desert will be always hard, especially with super buu boss, for some reason yakon and super buu have huge stats compared to all the bosses. the cyborgs are good exp, but the giant flame robots are useless, give no exp, huge hp and the flame easy kill you, that part is hard by default if you don't put all on atk
@@valentds They should've given Gohan the mystic transformation (blue aura instead of yellow), like they did in Budokai2&3. Buus fury does feel rushed compared to Log2, and its a shame the devs couldnt refine or polish it like the prequel.
Piccolo is more of a good step father as if it wasn’t for goku then gohan would be far faaar behind in power. He’s the reason ssj2 gohan existed when it did.
At 25 I still think about my experience and how unique this game was on the game boy advance. Db games nowadays on much more powerful hardware lack any creativity and experience.
Looking at the sprite art, if this game series somehow got a remake/remaster, I’d like them to take the approach that the first two Star Ocean games did (First Departure for the first game), in that during battle, it transitions into a special arena, and then you’re given some free reign for DBZ: Kakarot style combat but in 2D. Think of it like in the Butoden games, with a bit of FighterZ, but in a 2.5D arena. Also, the second game was so good it actually got a Japanese release.
Legacy of Goku 2, and Buu's Fury are my favs. So much that I stsrted playing these when I was 10 years old. Currently, I am 19, and I still play these (currently playing LOG2) from time to time.
My ranking is the same as yours. I played all 3 games in sequential order. As an old school gamer, I never found any of the 3 games to be all that challenging but the third one was definitely the easiest one and having lazarus crystals along with tons of useable item boosts just made the game a complete breeze. As for the first game, the bad controls along with all the boring side quests just made the game a complete chore. Overall the second game had the best balance between difficulty and all the features in the game.
Dragon ball z legacy of goku 2 was AMAZING....between the story, gameplay and music it was so great....it was my favorite childhood game......the only downside i had to it was how long it took to get to level 50
Just played all 3. Buu's Fury is the best easily and most meaty with better character portraits, expanded dialogue, world, etc. Want to know why it's less regarded than Legacy of Goku 2? Cause it came out closer to the end of the GBA's life cycle. It's a common thing with games like Ghost Trick on the DS, Buu's Fury on the GBA, Perfect Dark on the N64 which is infiinitely superior to Goldeneye. Games that come out later in the console's life cycle don't get the same adoption in the culture that mid-generation games do. Yup I'm a veteran in the industry with tons of insight. Buu's Fury > Legacy of Goku 2 although both are great.
Also Buus fury has alot of small glitches and oversights that prevent it from being a true classic. Still a fun game, but probably 7-7.5/10 for me.
Yeah I remember LoG to be really clunky. But LoG2 was such an amazing game. It would be really amazing to get remakes of those. Like a topdown story game in 3D
I played all three and I liked 3 and 2 the most. Especially after beating 2 you feel like progression is better and streamlined. Everything seemed slightly better. Legacy of Goku 1 was fun but the least fun if the three games
I used to have the first 2 games as a kid! loved em but could never finish the first game, it was so hard!!!, years later I found the third one on the ground walking to school, found out it was a friends he dropped, so i asked to borrow it for a week and couldnt hop off!, now at age 30 I want to play them again haha
Played 2 and Buus fury as a kid. Picked up 1 as an adult. Shocked at how bad it was. Good to know the rest are good and it wasn't nostalgia. Gonna go find those games now!
I feel Legacy of Goku I is a little bit underrated. Though rough I find it enjoyable considering the devs didn’t have much funding they made do. But the sequels absolutely improved that much upon the gameplay.
I always wondered how you unlock gogeta. I bought the game used at a flea market when I was a kid around the time of it's release and someone had unlocked him but I deleted that save for some reason and could never find him in the game again. I always thought I just had to max out every Z warrior. Now I gotta get this game again and beat it for the 100th time 😂
idk, I only had 2 and 3 and I distinctly remember wanting to play 3 way more then 2 (it just has soo much more content in it...) also these were like my first db experience and it was really confusing, it made me think legacy of goku 2 was a sequel to buus furry, only magnified by trunks being older in 2 and me not being able to read all the context
Now that im older, I only go back to Buus fury once a year or so. Its way too much grinding and difficulty drops too much, compared to Log2. The lv doors are complete overkill and ruin the pacing of the game.
Dope video man, never played this series but it looks really interesting. Would love to see a modern day Dragon Ball RPG in this style for PC and modern consoles
@@davidmuller6011 Kakarot is nothing like LoG, anyone who goes into Kakarot expecting to feel something similar to LoG is going to be terrible disappointed (Like me), Kakarot resembles more Xenoverse and DBO that it does LoG.

As an early gba game, legacy one was memorable because it actually had sean schemmels voice and an animated cutscene. Both of those things were witchcraft going from gbc to gba back then.
They are all great but legacy of goku 2 is the one that blew my mind. The story line was amazing!
Tbh….the android saga in dbz is my absolute favorite. Really the favorite section by the mass majority of dbz fans so it’s really no surprise.
12:07 I remember getting stuck on that fight when I was younger 😢 then I accidentally stumbled on the stats increase screen after all my playtime 😅
I will never say voice acting as an automatic improvement in a game. So things are just better through text
Talking about RPGs, when playing DBZ: Sagas please play it with a friend (Not because it is hard, but because it is much more enjoyable that way).
yes, hope he doesnt make that mistake
Buus Furry was the hardest for me because I didn’t realize until I got to ultimate gohan that I was suppose to be manually increasing my stats
Oh wow. There's a big arrow next to your health bar and everything though!
Up, down, left, right, b, a. The invincibility cheat for Legacy of Goku that I remember to this day
To me Buu's Fury ws just legacy of Goku 2 but better, all the new mechanics just improved the overall gameplay for me, and I still loved LG2
Piccolo is more of a good step father as if it wasn’t for goku then gohan would be far faaar behind in power. He’s the reason ssj2 gohan existed when it did.
That milk tea you had during the ad break was one of my favorite drinks to buy from vending machines, when I lived in Japan
I've been dying for more ranking of Dragon Ball games!!!
The best Dragon Ball Z RPG is Legendary Super Warriors for the game boy color and it isn’t even close.
my man, was looking in the comments for the OG. Im replaying atm and looking for my next one but DB:LSW is goated fr
Dragon ball z legacy of goku 2 was AMAZING....between the story, gameplay and music it was so great....it was my favorite childhood game......the only downside i had to it was how long it took to get to level 50
I played all 3. Beat all 3. Legacy of Goku 2 been the classic forever. Buus fury was so cold when I was 3rd grade
LoG: E
LoG2: A+
LoG3/BF: B
Potentially the biggest jump in quality from Original to Sequel game I’ve ever seen.
The legacy of goku 2 and buus fury are one of my favourite games of all time❤
Loved log tho kakorot was like a proper remake in an extreme way
The music of 2 and buu's fury is soo damn good.
we waited 5 months for this. And it's worth it
It’s a crime you didn’t talk about the music
If you think Legacy of Goku looks bad due to being on GBA just wait for Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure, that game still looks awesome to this day.
Yess the ranking of db came back 🔥🔥
Legacy Of Goku 1 had a Invincibility Code you put in during the intro
Up,Down, Left, Right, B,A
Buus fury had the zensu bean glitch too which made it basically impossible to die
I've been looking for the title of the game I used to play when I was a kid, turns out it's Buu's Fury! Can finally sleep now 😊
8:22
Goku: Going Super Saiyan the first time (Freeza/Namek Saga)
Piccolo: Protecting Gohan (Saiyan Saga)
Gohan: Idk
Trunks: Idk
Vegeta: Idk
I remember playing part 2 to the point of 100% good game
You did forget about wieght trening equipment that gives you additional exp when we wearing it in buus fury
I played all three and I liked 3 and 2 the most. Especially after beating 2 you feel like progression is better and streamlined. Everything seemed slightly better. Legacy of Goku 1 was fun but the least fun if the three games
Put all your points towards super attacks. It makes Buus Fury super fun.
At 8:02 I don’t remember getting to fight 18 as Gohan. I did the cooler fight and hercule finish.
I only played legacy of goku 2 at my friends house, good memories !
I remember having all 3 games I remember beating legacy of goku 1 in under 2 hours when I learned about the unlimited health cheat (Konami code)
log2 is worth playing without cheats, is enough well balanced overall. for 1 i could let it pass, that game is coded very bad
I played the first and second. Got stuck on the second one where you have to get the dinosaur/dragon eggs down the mountain
YO GLOBKU, I NEED YOU TO REACT TO THIS: Codename Jump MOBA
If it comes to the West it's gonna be huge!
The next set of games that would be good to play through would be DBZ supersonic warriors
Gonna go find those games now!
the lg2/3 flying around is cool
Budokai 3 and bt2 it's always cool when db games did if for the story
Dude I see you on every dbz videogame video
I literally just finished DBZ legacy of Goku 2 yesterday for the first time
Lol a bit of mistake, but the golden capsules makes it possible to go back to the world map from anywhere you are and fly (except when in buildings)
Can't wait for you to play dragon ball origin, a real gem
I actually enjoyed playing LOG1 despite its flaws. It's the hardest game out of the trilogy and that's what makes it fun.
Walking around, die, lose progress, retry
This series is so goated and underrated
Man, I love this series, I've played it so many times
I feel Legacy of Goku I is a little bit underrated. Though rough I find it enjoyable considering the devs didn’t have much funding they made do.
But the sequels absolutely improved that much upon the gameplay.
I never realized LoG 1 was badly recieved, i adored it as a kid and didn't particularly like 2 when i got it and im unsure why now.
That would be really cool to play as cell on his own missions.
I played DBZ LoG2 first :) and I absolutely loved it.
I completed this 3 game this is my most favourite games ❤ I playe this game in 2010 I miss childhood day 😢
Buu, fury is my favorite game
So for buus fury it depends on how you spend your points
More physical damage STR
More blast damage POW
Less damage taken END
WE HERE !!!
Also the different characters have different stat growth in LOG2.
I loveeeeeee the 2nd one and Buu’s Revenge
I always wondered how you unlock gogeta. I bought the game used at a flea market when I was a kid around the time of it's release and someone had unlocked him but I deleted that save for some reason and could never find him in the game again. I always thought I just had to max out every Z warrior. Now I gotta get this game again and beat it for the 100th time 😂
Yeah I will never get over Guru's torture chamber, also how did beat it in only 3 hours I remember this game having crazy Grind.
in LOG2, i grinded vegeta to 50 to go through his barrier because i thought that was the way you had to go, i didnt know about the switches
Globku, you need to do my hero one’s justice 2 new tier list with all dlc’s pleaseee!!
Definitely wanna go back and play these
Crazy how I missed a legendary take on these games?!
idk, I only had 2 and 3 and I distinctly remember wanting to play 3 way more then 2 (it just has soo much more content in it...) also these were like my first db experience and it was really confusing, it made me think legacy of goku 2 was a sequel to buus furry, only magnified by trunks being older in 2 and me not being able to read all the context
I played 3 first and yeah I think Buu's Fury is much more fun if you play them when younger, you crave a challenge much less.
Now that im older, I only go back to Buus fury once a year or so. Its way too much grinding and difficulty drops too much, compared to Log2. The lv doors are complete overkill and ruin the pacing of the game.
bro said im so ready for new years you know this was made days prior
The best gba dragonball game for me is dragonball advanced adventure
Dope video man, never played this series but it looks really interesting. Would love to see a modern day Dragon Ball RPG in this style for PC and modern consoles
The closest you can get to a modern RPG.
Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans on DS
lol we already have one, DBZ Kakarot. It's literally just the legacy of Goku but with modern graphics and controls.
@@davidmuller6011 Kakarot is nothing like LoG, anyone who goes into Kakarot expecting to feel something similar to LoG is going to be terrible disappointed (Like me), Kakarot resembles more Xenoverse and DBO that it does LoG.
@@MENGGMS lmao no, it resembles legacy of Goku in pretty much every way
I used to like The Legacy of Goku II as a kid.
Until I started playing other DBZ games, the GBA trilogy doesn't feel like DBZ games at all, it felt more like it was trying to copy Secret of Mana.
I Play only Lagacy of Goku 2! This is my Favorite!
It's ok when others habe another Favorite! 😉
My Ranking:
1st Legacy of Goku 2
2nd Buu's Fury
3rd Legacy of Goku
