- Torpedo bombers. Just a while ago they were more of a distraction. It was no use flying them in Mixed Battles, and when it came to Air Only... Let’s set this straight: torpedoes are much more finicky to use than bombs. You have to be at a right altitude, right speed and right angle while also becoming a perfect target. Yeah, all of us tried our hand at using torpedoes to sink AI-controlled ships that move in a straight line - but sooner or later we got back to our reliable, trusty bombs. But that was then. With Naval Battles open and available to everyone, a torpedo bomber isn’t just as good as any other aircraft. It is every ship’s worst nightmare.

It depends, really...
E.g. if you crash a heavy plane into a landing craft, it is a kill
If you crash a light bomber into a cruiser, don't expect much
Life of a torpedo bomber:
1- get airspawn
2- rush to ship or boat as soon as posible
3- Get killed before launch a torpedo into a ship
4- repeat the steps 1 to 3 10000000 times

@@JDudek69 That bomb can one shot a base.. As soon as you spawn you should drop and reach a base asap. You''ll have time to destroy it and return to the af before any enemy is spotted. That plane can reach crazy speeds
Gechi999 if you’re down tiered yes. Up-tiered no. I don’t even bring a torpedo then. I either shoot bombers, OR the best do a slight dive to their AF and I can always manage to catch 1-2 109s in their climb. Then the rest get angry and follow me to low alt. This is a huge benefit for the team

Remember.... large ships tend to stay in open water.... so you have to completely expose yourself in open water in order to get close enough to drop a torpedo. In that time, the AI gunner on ships will have spotted you 4km out. While that fighter on your six is 2km out, tearing you to shreds, because your gunners wont engage until 0.2km out.
So it's either get ripped apart by AA from ships, because your gunners wont do anything about the fighter behind you or get ripped apart by a plane because you're trying to dodge AA from ships.

the thing i dont' get with torpedos in warthunder is how they almost always insta kill like i don't think a cruiser would get sunk by a single torp
@@Firewordien they dont. Some do like the type 93 (of kiyoshimo or akazuki with their increased explosive Mass) but a destroyer Wont die of a Single PT boat Torpedo, but to be honest it would be still REALLY BAD
And most teammates are autistic idiots with tunnelvision 90% of the time so forget about teamwork
torpedo bombers would be way more useful if you weren't constantly spawned on ground maps when u pick them.

Hey, are you planning to introduce any advanced torpedo systems that were used during the war?
The Germans had their Torpedo-Kommandogerät, a device that could be used to input target's speed and angle, and then the torpedo could be dropped directly towards the target and the torpedo would automatically turn to intercept the target. If you set the parametres in correctly and the enemy ship continued on course, the torpedo would hit the target.
The Italians had the pattern-running Motobomba FFF torpedoes, and the Allies had some parachute-equipped torpedoes which could be dropped from significant altitude and with very high airspeed, since the parachute would slow the torpedo to space speed for water entry.

@@zrty6512 I was referring to aircraft armaments and equipment. The Torpedo-Kommandogerät for example should be available on the He 111 torpedo bomber, and I certainly don't remember seeing Motobomba FFF or parachute torpedoes as available ordnance either.

@@zrty6512 If you are talking about torpedoes changing directions that is just a visual glitch. because you client sometimes has a different opinion where a torpedo is exactly then the server... in the end the server wins and your client gets updated that look as if the torpedo changed direction but in reality it didn't

Come on, grow a pair - Gibson and the 617 boys did this sort of pop-up/drop-down close range attack from behind cover, using four-engine heavy bombers, with skip bombs! They could do it; so can you!
@@KrillLiberator in Naval battles, it's mostly suicide. Especially because I play squishy japanese planes. Using cover never works just that I get even shot faster

Do not use the aircraft carrying torpedoes in battles of war thunder
It’d be nice if, for torpedo and naval bombers, you got to spawn in command of a wing of three planes, the other two being AI, so that you wouldn’t just be shredded instantly and would actually have a chance of a successful torpedo run.

Forgive me as I am somewhat new to this tactic in game, but how fast (airspeed) do you have to be flying when you release the bombs for an effective skip - bombing attack on enemy ships?
@@Avus95 depends on bomb type and size, but 400km/h is a good speed to bounce. More important is the height and angle your plane is at. A level plane at 20m above sea level or lower is ideal.

Coordinate with your team mates?! I’m sorry gaijin but the only teamwork present in naval forces is that of destroyers against other destroyers. Light cruisers and patrol boats just rush in and pepper spray the enemy with fire till they die and trying to get a random friendly player, be it a ship or aircraft, to distract an enemy player whilst you try to line up for a torpedo run on said player??! Yeah good luck with that.
Teamwork is a big IF in any match. You have to find a competent wingman and squad up long beforehand.
What are you guys talking about?! The He-111H-6, and especially the TBD-1 Devastator, are both GREAT torpedo-bombers in naval RB!!
If you use the torpedo in the he 111 instead of the FritzX, you should rethink life 🗿
Will you add torpedoes for the JU88? and will you add the FW 190 with a Torpedo? You also talked about the japanese (and in a bit about the italian) navy and their torpedo bombers, will these tech trees come soon? You already showed some of their ships and boats in the CBT.
More FW-190s - more fun for me! One with torpedo would be a nice addition for my FW-190 only lineup.
I think the most feasible would be the Ju-87 Torpedo Bomber variants made for the incomplete Graf Zeppelin.
The FW-190 would have too much of an offensive armament for a bomber.
The Ju-88 could work but it's just another twin-engine Torpedo Bombers which Germany has two of already.
That's why i love FW-190s.
They can do almost everything.
They have really good cannons, they can be equiped with 210mm rockers, bombs (from 50kg ones to a 1000kg one) and they can be used as normal fighters, most planes can't do all of this.
@@cloroxbleach9222 to be honest the Ju 88 is way faster then other twin engined bombers. The naval Ju 87 is a good addittion, but the fi 167 might be usefull too. And the he 115 floatplane would be nice aswell
Now that they have the se les shown a photograph of the torpedo armed ju88a4 they cant keep dodging the players asking for the missing ordnance.

My next door neighbor chum’s father was Torpedo Bomber Squadron Commander , Edward J. Montagne . Their F-U Corsairs were fitted w / torpedos aboard the Carrier Vella Gulf in the Solomons . He passed away in 2019 @ 100 yrs. old !
HE'S FLYING TOO FAST AND HE'S FLYING TOO HIGH
One of the best sensation I have in this game is when I fly in my he 111 at 3 meters, avoiding AA fire and drop my torpedoe before pass over the ennemy destroyer who explode a few seconds later

Out of all of the videos on this channel that I've watched, this is the one where he is the most exciting
I feel these planes need a buff. From RB experience, my soviet IL-4 can get 2 kills easily using the 2x500 and 1x1000kg loadout but really struggles with using it's torpedo. Even when the torpedo hits it doesn't guarantee the kill whereas I haven't had a single bomb strike not kill a destroyer in the il-4. Not to mention all torpedos are hard to aim so you HAVE to get close to score a hit.
Since ships already get a torpedo aiming indicator in RB, aircraft should get the same.
Fritz x... it’s there if you don’t like the torpedoes. Plus you can be safe and guide the bomb!

Torpedo bombers are only a threat as long as you don't aim your MGs at them. With target tracking even in RB, shooting down incoming planes is easier than ever before.

Launching a torpedo at a ship that just released its smoke cloud is a good cover for lineing up you're shot from longer distances because by the time the cloud dissipates your right on top of them ready to release the torpedo then fly through the smoke over top of them then turn back with your rear camera to look at your handy work, i love that part

Another thing that is very rewarding is when you use a SBD 3 Dauntless dive bomber the correct way; diving from roughly 10,000ft and scoring a direct hit on the torpedo tubes on destroyers, then using the smaller bombs to finish off PT boats
Will italy get any additional CAS aircraft for when the italian tanks come out? They are lacking quite a bit, with only the SM79's being a valid option

the BR.20 DR is a good option too it has 2 800kg bombs. A bit slow but it could be useful beyond it BR
F6Fs weren't designed with torpedo bombing as even a secondary mission. It was briefly tested for the role late in the war, but nothing came of it.

Please give the Night fighter Hellcat the 1944 model of the Mk14, the standard version is useless. Also the TBF is better than the Helldiver.

"If I drop a torpedo from a high altitude, maybe it will explote like a common bomb"

@@TheGunningPony Because Germany really doesnt have many options for Torpedo bombers. Plus since its a 190 it has maneuverability on its side compared to a HE-111 or a DO-217

One of my war thunder stories is: I was once a torpedo plane flying over a POWERFUL enemy. When the person fired at me I tried to get out, but I could not. So I went underwater for like a second and came out and managed to dodge a lot of gunfire. Idk if it was a glitch that I went under the water or what. But I still won. And I had one piece of my wing blown off... And used my tail gun to gun down the ship. And then went in for a torpedo attack. I flew real close and then dropped it and juked the ship VERY hard.

I cannot agree more with the video. When you aim to be a Torpedo Ace, US or JPN are your best bet. They have the highest drop speed, angle or altitudes. Most other nation's torpedo bombers lack the hand-... er... airbrake to get your speed down to drop speed. I still fondly remember the old times before bombers and torpedos had the limitations in AB. Dive in with a Beaufort, with exceptional energy retention at 900 km/h, drop a torpedo, rinse and repeat and have 3 ships sunk before the enemy knew what happened to them ;)
Seriously, rewards for sinking a ship with a torpedo should be a tad higher than just dropping a bomb on them since it requires more skill to do it.
And, don't forget that the Bismarck could only be sunk with the aid of a valiant Swordfish, which's torpedo demolished the Bismarck's rudder. ;)
My preferred method of approach is a shallow dive with full power in the B-34 Lexington, then, in Air RB, I try to hit Japanese Carriers dead on. The early US fish are practically useless, but the 1944 Mod can be dropped from more than 500kph

you have to be at about 300km/h to drop the torpedo without it drowning, which is at the point where you can barely stay in the air without stalling

I will rarely use Torpedoes but when I do I make sure I'm a total of Two and a Half km away from my target add an altitude of no higher than 1,000 ft.I also make sure I have enough energy to pull up and away usually banking left or right if there is an enemy fighter ready to intercept me.
With boat torpedoes I fire all in a choke point that looks like a lot of boats pass through

Using teamwork to attack ships in Air RB is about the most utopian thing I have ever heard about WT
Heres the thing; in a hellcat with 1 torp, I can get 1 enemy. In a hellcat with 2 bombs and 8 rockets, I can (and often do) get 3; 1 per bomb and an extra with the rockets.
My tactic : low & slow , drop and out 😉
When the enemy starts shooting their aa guns wiggle waggle the wings it helps a lot to dodge enemy fire
I tried hiding behind the mountains to sink a ship, and the gunners shot me through the mountains.
They were really Good in Simulator Battle tough. Cause its much easier to hit with them when your in Cockpit mode.

Stuff like B-34,The Catalina's,H6K,H8K TBD-1 and BTD-1 stuf in this direction but also the AD-4 Skyraider with rocket's+Torpedo
Its funny cuz the Ventura handles like a heavy fighter more than a bomber. Its speed and maneuverability is ridiculously good..

1: grab a SBD dauntless
2: load a 500lbs bomb

the c key is a good helper, also when in doubt become the torpedo
i get to an high altitude then when in reach of an destroyer i dive down but behind an island then go around and do it quickly then make an hard u turn and boom you got an Torpedo bombers dream
tip face your bow to the torpedo so you can doge it better and it depends of the armor of your ship and if your a torpedo bomber do zig zags and drop those fishes make sure not to target heavily armored ones too like battleships
WE NEED MORE FLOAT PLANES! THERE IS OVER 100 MORE THAT COULD BE ADDED, MAKE IT HAPPEN!
