That's great, man. Did you just watch Chocolate Man in Thailand. He just visited his Air Force buddies in Angeles. Cebu Pacific has a new direct flight to Bangkok. Plus Korea? If you want to avoid Manila traffic, check that out
Rizal if you turned right at the traffic circle, 7th street to the left, toward the “jungle.” We visited in 2014, and a lot of this new development was just beginning- it REALLY looks different now.
I was born in Olongapo but left when I was 5. Lived right down by the roundabout on Magsaysay and 7th St. It was nice to see that my godfather’s pizza restaurant still going strong. We used to visit every couple of years up until my mom passed away a decade ago so I got to see all the different changes Magsaysay went through in the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Thank you friend for bringing me back to memory lane. My fondest memories of my ole Navy days have once again brought me back smiles, and good times. As a FilAm Retired Navy Serviceman, I visited Philippines for the first time with my Uncle, who was at the time stationed aboard the USS CORAL SEA CV-43 back in 1981-83. Olongapo was our usual port visit, and of course Magsaysay was more active then, especially with the entire fleet in town. But nevertheless, it is still a big part of my lifetime memory, and I’ve had the opportunity to return to the Philippines several more times via my next duty assignment in 1985-88 aboard USS ENTERPRISE CVN-65. Now in my mid 60s…..I’m going home again with my wife to start a new chapter, and Olongapo will certainly be the place for us to revisit. Thank you for the memories friend 😎😇🙏⚓️⚓️🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭🇺🇸🇵🇭👍
Memories.... I left in 1986 after NGF school. Viewing this video, I'm lost! NOTHING looks the same (especially during the day). Doesn't look exciting whatsoever, anymore.
No Olongapo is just a regular town these days. The fleet is returning to the area. We'll see what happens. Still, it probably won't compare to the crazy 60's 70's and 80's. I also did a video in Baretto, Angeles and the old base. Check them out in the PI Playlist
@@EagerExpat Yep..., with the "new military" i"m sure Subic Bay will not be the same IF they choose to rebuild the base there again. Yes, sir. I'm about to view the base video next.
We might be shipmates - I was on HORNE (DLG-30) 69 to 72, however, I was also on the RANGER during the 83-84 deployment when HORNE was the CG in the Battle Group. So there is no doubt our wakes crossed from time to time.
I think I just missed you. I was on the 84-85 and 87-88 deployment. I think we were with the Kitty Hawk, then Midway & Iowa. Good times. Today, I retired and moved to Bangkok. Thanks for watching.
I was there in 2020. The Wimpy's is still in the same place. At the corner of Hansen & Magsaysay would have been Brown Fox, across from the Police Station & Buddy's. If I remember correctly, Florida Club would have been about where Jade Hotel is. Slim's Tavern would have been down that side street by Sam's pizza. Yes, Shakey's was by where you said. There are 2 malls in Olongapo now, one by where the gate was and another by The High School. Magsaysay is one way, coming out from the gate.

I remember hearing Subic was one of the few ports that if it has too, could accommodate three battle groups. I lived in San Diego most my life. Very few times did I see three carriers in port
The East Coast, West Coast, Play Boy Club and the rest. '83 and 84' West Pac. VMFA-235 and 212. Different times, only distant memories, even my buddies faded away...
Was in Olongapo in June 1969, with USMC 2/26 on the USS Valley Forge docked next to the USS Hornet. Watched the stern of the USS Frank E Evans towed into day dock. Across the shit river to the California Club and the U &I Club at the end of the street. @0.56 is that not the location of the old U & I club?
Sure has changed since I also was there ba k in 87' w, the MO battle group in July of that year, unfortunately we never went back there on our return back frm the North Arabian Sea, instead we went 2 Aus.
Totally different now days. Last time I was there was in early 91 on our way back from the Gulf. Sad to think the Cork Room is nothing but a memory. Wondering if the Georgia Entertainment bar is the old Sierra Club.
It sure had changed. The bases are returning. The Las Vegas in PI might come back to life. I'm sure some in the PI don't miss the craziness. But, they probably will be OK with the millions flowing into the economy. Not just bars, but shipyards, tailors, mechanics, etc.. When we ran off the ship in the 80s hundreds of shipyard staff came aboard. 10 hours later you'd come back and things were welded, painted, repaired. It was the best
I left the base 3 months before they closed it down. I hardly recognize anything you showed. My barracks (BEQ 10) was about a block away from the main gate - I think it's now a hotel.
Yes, it really has changed. I was last there in 1987. I guess everything has changed since then. I retired to Bangkok today, check some of those videos out. This is a great place to live. It's New York City, but it's safe, at a 1990 price
Robert here, San Diego, DOD in Subic Bay from '80 - 84. Foster St, New Kapabae, Olongapo. Great memories, Brown Fox, 125th Street Jazz, Florida Club, Apple Club hallway entrance, Shakey's Pizza, Princess Massage, Megsaysay Dr, Rizal Ave...I could go on. Great updated video bro! Married in '84 a beautiful filipina from Makati SM Shoe Mart, resided in Quezon City, but looking at Barrio Baretto, Subic area for a home! We go back there every 2 years, our kids love it there, spoiled by in-laws! Guy named Rebel on Rizal Ave, "Jungle" nicknamed then, stayed at Princess Massage. Great video, brings me back to the days.
Do you recall the previous Olongapo City General Hospital? Not a lot of people remember that hospital. Where Marikit Park is that has the fighter jet displayed.
My first West-Pac was from Pearl Harbor in 1980. Aw, PI! If I could only go back and freeze time while there. Great people and what memories I can still remember.
In its debauchery heyday, Olongapo was great fun. During SP, I got to walk into every bar and check out each of their themes. The beer was cheap and the entertainment was great fun. There was a dark side to that town as well - organized crime, constant power outages, dirty water, trafficking, etc. I always felt a grungy factor there. I remember seeing sailors who were stationed there and they all looked haggard and thrashed. All those years of cheap beer, heavy smoking, bad tats, and willing women took their toll.
I was just talking with a buddy today. He used to do shore patrol when the battlegroup arrived. The USS Nimitz group arrives here in Thailand today. I think liberty is a little less crazy today. Midnight curfew, etc.. Still, it's always good to visit a new port. Thanks for watching. I'm based in Bangkok today. There are plenty of SE Asia videos posted and more on the way
@@EagerExpat The problems with carriers was long hours and dangerous jobs. So many folks would go hog wild blowing off steam. They even showed the STD films before pulling in but it didn't matter. I love Bangkok, would love to visit again real soon. I also remember stopping in Pattaya Beach. Great times and many old sea stories. I would go back just for the deep tissue foot massages. They were epic. Can't find those here in SD.

Last time i was there was in 1979 while still in the service.. i used to hangout at a little restaurant below Brown Fox club beside that Duckpin bowling alley along Magsaysay avenue … that was a long long time ago…
Last time I was there it was in 85'. What a difference. I'm sure the base closing had a lot to do with the clubs disappearing. Had some wild times in the first couple of blocks:)
I was station dito 87-89 Where is the Rolling Stones club? Looks like a vacant lot maybe? It was same side as Mariposa (now David salon) just next a little further. Maybe at the 6:51 in the video
Is the Brown Fox still there or kongs restraurant,or the American Leigion it was all on Magsaysay even the fire station & police station I was stationed in Subic Bay back in the 70’s thru the 1990 & 1991 after pinatubo erupted
I can't remember much. I know we had a party at the Florida Club. Plus a smaller bar. I was with the Kitty Hawk battle group in 84-85. In 87-88 we went over with the Midway and escorted the Iowa back to California.
@@Sgt_MoDog_USMC That was crazy back in the day. A young friend of the family is on a cruiser in the Med. One rule after another. Breathalyzer on the quarterdeck. Not sure what the limit is, but I'm sure we would have never passed. At sea it's time to work, but liberty is a time to party

Has surely changed since my last time there in 1986. I remember Sams Pizza and the Circle
Thanks for watching Ted. I also made a video of the base. There should be a Philippines playlist.
Thanks for watching. The PI is great
First time seeing that little roundabout since 1974, city has changed.
It sure has. I was there in 1984-1988. My dad was stationed there in 1960. Great to see the old area. Thanks for watching
Can't believe the change from 1974-1976 the good old Days !!! Lots of ❤❤😊
I know. I guess the whole world has changed. But, it's strange to time travel from 1985 to 2024
OMG Welcome back! I live here in Olongapo and yes, many things changed! There are less clubs now (My grandmother told me)
Thanks. It was great to visit the area once again. I'll be back in the PI soon. I live in Thailand today
Told now have go up the hill to Barrio Barretto!
Thanks shipmate for watching. I hope you have a great visit. We had some great times there back in the 1980's. But, it's still a great place to visit
5;50 Yes you are at Magsaysay drive. it did change a lot. thanks for showing us around Magsaysay drive.
Yes, I didn't recognize the street at all. Of course the last time I was there was 1987. Good to visit again. Thanks for watching
You are doing a great job shipmate! I like the interviews you do. I'll be back there next year..

Yes it's really changed. However, it looks like the fleet is returning soon. Tension in the area. So the PI is becoming more inviting to the area

No worries - Horne was a favorite - I made two deployments on her during Vietnam... @@EagerExpat

Good info. Thanks for that.

Across the shit river to the California Club and the U &I Club at the end of the street.

Was there in 1976, nothing looks familiar 😂. Used to frequent the Blue Parrot. Fun times 😂.

Its Magsaysay olongapo city.... Thank you Eager.... My house is just next to the school of westley

Olongapo City National high 😍 my high school year 1976 to year 1977 🥰 I left year 1977 to Honolulu Hawaii 😍
Nice, thanks for checking out the video
