Take a walk with me around Olongapo City in Zambales Philippines. Once known for being called Sin City during the 60's and 70's to now called a Model City from the 80's until present, this place has had some huge changes. This area where I walked in Olongapo City Zambales Philippines is near the Olongapo Public Market. Feel free to watch my other video where I walk around Magsaysay, which if I'm not mistaken would be considered the Sin City area from the 60's and 70's. Enjoy!

I was stationed in the Philippines in San Miguel about 40 minutes from Olongapo. We had a scuttle bus that would leave every hour for a Olongapo. What a wild place it was! Nothing like the 007 Club where things happened!

They still are. I was in Cebu in January of this year (2024). I've been all over Southeast Asia and I may visit other countries but I stay in the Philippines for any extended period of time. It's also nice to not have to fight the language barrier. That's a big deal for me even though I enjoy learning new languages.

The last time I was there was in 1991. It had been 6 years since I was last there and it was just after Pinatubo blew its top. Clark was gone and when we pulled into Subic Bay, the mountains all around us were grey with all the volcanic ash. The base was still digging out and so many of the buildings had lost their roofs, including the little greasy spoon restaurant halfway between Alava Pier and the gate. Once we got out in town it was apparent that the ash had taken a large toll. There were several bars and restaurants that had lost their roofs to the ash. One place in particular, 168 bar, was destroyed. Only the outer walls remained of what was once a thriving bar and grill. Across the street, the Mariposa Inn had sustained major damage and if I remember correctly, (it's been 30 years), it was closed. Around the corner, the building housing the Rufadora Snack Bar and the Cordon Blue club was still standing but the roof had caved in on the Cordon Blue. How the Ruf survived is anybody's guess but it did and walking through that door felt like coming home. There was a bar at the corner of Gordon and 6th that was called The Tiger Lady in 79. Can't remember the new name, it changed owners by the time I came back in 81, but it was also still in operation in 91. Olongapo sustained quite a lot of damage from all the ash, but that is as hearty a city as I've ever seen. The people there reminded me of the cities and towns in Tornado Alley after being hit. They shook off the shock, took stock of what was left, dusted themselves off, and got on with the task of cleaning up and rebuilding. I visited Olongapo a total of 10 times between February of 1979 and June of 1991. I fell in love with the people of the Philippines in general, and Olongapo City in particular. Along with Japan and her people, I will carry a special place in my heart for the P.I., and Olongapo, forever.

I was a young sailor in olongapo in the mid 80's, the Filipino people are better off without us there. At that time it was a bunch of bars and bar girls along Magsaysay Dr. I loved every minute I got to spend in the Philippines. May God bless the people of the Philippines.

It’s mostly poor drunk dudes that eat dog. Some poor laborers who only make 200 php a day would come home of 12 hours days work and drink with their buddies. When they get hungry they’ll go out and hunt a small dog to kill, cook and eat. Its only these type of dude I seen there eat dog. Most people don’t eat do because of the stigmata that it brings. Especially when you’re walking around The neighborhood. If you eat dog, People can tell right away that you eat dog because all the other dogs in the neighborhood can sense this and all the dogs go crazy all at the same time, like ready to kill crazy not just giving warning barks whenever someone who has eaten dogs passes by

@@Ironic_JihadI lived next to a Apartment compound where mostly poor Laborers where living in there in Olongapo. At the End of the day especially on Friday nights, They would get drunk off their rum. Afterwards they would all get a big rice sack, a club and pile up in a Trike (Tok-Tok) to go hunt stray dogs. First time I witness this was my first week living there. I moved to the neighborhood got invited to drink with these guys. I declined to drink but stood there to talk to one of the guys. As we were talking I notice all the dogs in the neighborhood was going crazy. Non stop crazy barking from all the dogs in the whole street one end to the other. The guy I was talking to told me the dogs are barking crazy because we just ate a dog. It was something I never witnessed before.

Olongapo has phased out since the volcanic Mt. Pinatubo exploded in 1991, and destroyed the whole region. Appreciate it if you could address it as such -- San Sebastian City next time.
