Essentially, all or nearly all of these discussions comes back to reparations. Way back when, the promise was forty acres and a mule in exchange for black votes.
Today, diversity and inclusivity can be found in this their main narrative: "We're here for you. You had it bad as slaves, and here are all the perks we Dems are giving you. Vote Dem, and your lives will get progressively better."
All lies of course, but the lies from the Repubs aren't any better. Independents like Bernie? Not helpful. LSS, it's a broken system. Help is a long ways off.
I'm commenting about something else other than voting. I'm trying to examine the narrative that depicts all American blacks as being members of this endlessly put-upon demographic. Constantly elbowed away from "the good life" today, and yesterday, and the day before that, and, well, it goes back to their slave days.
      Or does it?
The main (only?) "what slavery was like" narrative includes nothing but whuppins and massa graping black women. Non stop. But you can get more ants with honey than with vinegar. So was it all vinegar and no honey?? Was slavery really one beating after another, one snuggle/struggle after another for all the black women?
Every time we look at very dark/black African Americans, and they claim to trace their roots back to the slave days, what we are seeing in their skin tone is evidence that their great great grandmothers were not graped by massa. Moreover, their great grannies were also not graped by massa. Their grannies? Not graped.
Making beautiful, sweet music in the bedroom is often considered honey. If you were a buck, and you did your chores, often you were rewarded with some bedtime snuggling with that hawt piece of honey (if she consented, too, of course).
So yes slavery was awful. But part of the con job is that slavery was all vinegar. And the Dem's con job continues today.

Specifically AfroAmericans nexus to the evolved aggregate financial and social status standings without assaying the adverse generational consequences of AfroAmericans from the historic experience of AfroAmericans in United States due to enslavement of AfroAmericans. To the obverse in the generational benefits of Whites unique experience in American History. Sowell thesis is an underlying specious conclusion all adverse generational consequences of slaveries are amalgam of parity. Which is an absurd specious conclusions.

Did you say Thomas Sowell is a voice of reason? The central thrust in the premise of Thomas Sowell's writings is antithetical to Thomas Sowell's own life. As a child Thomas Sowell's family relocated from the Jim Crow South to New York. Had not Thomas Sowell's family relocated to New York from the wretched constraints upon AfroAmericans lives growing up in the Jim Crow South. We would had never known Thomas Sowell as we know him today. The Jim Crow South imposed significant adverse suppressive generational consequences upon AfroAmericans. Unfortunately the enormity in the multitudes of AfroAmericans in the Jim Crow South were unable to flee or relocate from the Jim Crow South. The suppressive adverse generational consequences to AfroAmericans from the Jim Crow South was due to the ramifications of AfroAmerican slavery that benefitted generational consequences of White slave holders. Did you say Thomas Sowell is a voice of reason? With astute probity it can be extracted Thomas Sowell has mastered the art of polemics. Thomas Sowell could have taught Socrates a thing or two on the Socratic Method. Thomas Sowell is a voice of polemics.

No some of his delivery is absolutely terrible, tone deaf,; subject’s too bothersome to refrain from generalizing, and not fully informed. He does have some points but this is one of those mfers who go create something in AI and that AI would still somehow come out not recognizing a black personality as a person. See so many are alllllll looking for done answer and flaw in black ppl so they can ease their own mind that they mass lack of hiring/promote qualified black ppl, signing only black artist who spew toxic culture and undermine black parenting being effective. Not giving aid/loans to black farmers, keeping quality primary school education at bay in black communities mainly. Failing even in merited black dominated professional industries such as the NFL and NBA, not allowing qualified black athletes to advance to coaching. The amount of acute economic warfare against this community by racism is wild, whether it’s from Taraji P Henson having the number 1 show on tv in 2019 but getting paid 10 times less than the Friends cast at 1 in the 90’s! Or like that recent scandal with Navy Federal credit union that seemed to turn down home loans for equally qualified black ppl, -if it’s not that, then it’s appraisers grossly undervaluing black homes in great condition, in good neighborhoods.
Yet we have to sit through ppl like this guy, generalizing in a very poor manner things about black ppl in a manner that reveals several times, he’s not even interested in the subject he’s trying to explain. Without zero black person present I might add.
Racism is your problem ultimately, not black ppl. So no. Racism doesn’t stop black ppl overall but it sure does slow them down from progression in many ways but that you all sit here like oooh this is so great while your consciously part of the problem… is… interesting

Even Thomas Sowell has written that the war on drugs needs to be ended. Black men get harsher sentencing for drug charges, and with that they become institutionalized, their children go without fathers, they have a much harder time finding a job upon release, and they lose their alibility to vote. I love Dr. Sowell's preaching of personal agency, but there's more to the struggle. The American judicial system uses tax dollars to farm poor people into free labor through the drug war, and black men suffer the most from this ongoing process.

I remember Thomas Sowell from the late 1960s. There's a small circle of intellectuals went to college during the late 1960s to the 1970s and were engrossed with acumen in the sociopolitical economic polity of the United States and zeitgeist during this era in the United States. Have an in depth perspective of Thomas Sowell. Unfortunately we're diminishing in numbers due to age. We have an acute crystalline perception in the origins of the crafting and architecture of Thomas Sowell for the consequential purposes. Individuals among this esoteric circle are circumspect to the manufactured imagery of Thomas Sowell. He has mastered the art of sophistry in polemics. It's effective deflection to distract. Sowell meanders sundry historic disparate occurrences of slaveries in time and place avoiding elucidation of insular "specific" adverse mid and long-term generational consequences from the the ramifications inflicted by slave holders and their beneficial generational advantages absolving slave holders. In effect implying the amalgam of slaveries have parity in consequences. Sowell's underlying cryptic intents are stridently cognizant to the aforementioned scarce esoteric circle. Of course you don't have a clue in the central trust of my asseveration.
Well, remain oblivious in the dark to the intrinsic depiction of Thomas Sowell.

There will be a great sadness when Sowell passes, a sadness that can only equate to the feeling that we may never have someone of his caliber again for quite some time.

Sowell is not just a national treasure, but an international treasure. He's been criminally overlooked for his entire lifetime. For someone to just crack on in doing their best work and pursuing truth, education and exchange of ideas which they know full well are all totally out of step with the current cultural fashions and ideological possessions of the day (and which are not easily received by the general population nor by the powerful cultural and academic architects in our societies, more critically), really is a wonder. I agree with other commenters: Joe REALLY needs to get Sowell on before Sowell passes away (crikey, or before Joe does...touch wood).

Anyone should be suspicious of a thinker who claims to be objectively thinking their way through various social problems but always somehow arrives at the conclusion that the conservative solution to those problems is the correct one. That's Thomas Sowell.

@@georgesprat9697 I agree with your comment-- all partisan beliefs or an ideological bent patently infecting or guiding so-called critical thinking is a cause for deep scepticism. I don't get on with most American conservatives as everything seems to go back to their Christian morality and restricted, parochial, socially homogenous upbringing. If Jesus keeps popping up in disguise between the lines to keep the author company I'm out. The truth of most things lie in the crossover, the nuanced grey areas where most rational, honest, freewheelin' and inquisitive folks who love camaraderie and laughter live. Which is the terrain and climate in which most good academics, journalists and socio-political commentators ought to dwell and explore but do not. Such ideological possession in our era...tsk. Difficult for academics today to go against the tribal orthodoxy of the woke brigade and just go off-piste entirely in their research and presentation of theories and viewpoints. I'm interested in brave, transgressive creative thinkers who are really well integrated psychologically and have the guts to decline taking their peer groups temperature constantly. Sadly, the publishing industry is not championing these sorts of personalities in our era. Interesting, thorough historians are even thinner on the ground. The incredibly ugly, brutal and complicated history of slavery is just something none of them seem to want to touch-- or are able to get published or commissioned as a TV documentary.

@@ciganyweaverandherperiwink6293 Well as long as you're reading (or listening to) Sowell with eyes opens (i.e., knowing full-well that he's an arch-conservative and views the world through that ideological filter) then you could get something useful out of him. Namely, understanding that perspective and its arguments, then figuring out for yourself if they hold up when compared to their alternatives. I haven't read him, but I've seen interviews on UA-cam and his tendency to make poorly reasoned arguments and rely on logical fallacies convinced me that there was nothing more worth looking into with Sowell. That being said, he articulates his views well. As a speaker, I think he's compelling. It's just a shame that you have so many Americans who think he's an intellectual titan, like the ones in this comment section. It tells me they lack the critical skills to properly evaluate such things. Sowell has the aesthetics of a deep-thinking intellectual, but ultimately I find that he's ratifying conservative's prejudicial views instead of looking at things objectively. It's also no coincidence that he's a black man who is popular with conservatives. They claim not to put value in identities... until it suits their needs.
