It's great to hear from Dr. Sowell again at 93 who intellectually is as sharp as a tack. His many books over the years; should be required reading in all Universities, before a student could graduate. He has this uncanny ability to teach people how to think critically on just about any topic he chooses to write about. Thank you Dr. Sowell for your latest book and the wisdom you share with all who are open minded enough to hear you out.

I like his words but a lot are outside his wheelhouse. He doesn't understand why some people lack ambition. That flaw and others just reveal he is human. I still enjoy hearing him as he put critical thinking behind his words.

Ambition or lack thereof can be learned through social circumstance but also due to developmental issues. Nature (DNA and selection) and nurture (nutrition, core family, religion) are both important in encouraging persons to strive for better. What is interesting is that Nurture can drive Nature (if your family has healthier habits, better living conditions due to life success you are likely to produce healthier children, and so on...).

@@kerwinbrown4180ummm..if I were you I would go back and read Sowell and actually comprehend what he is talking about. Sowell at no time addresses why some people lack ambition or whatever. Sowell uses empirical evidence to show that all these feel good govt policies and ideas have failed miserably no matter how good the policies sounded. He isn’t pontificating on psychological theories or whatever. He has been showing us for decades that the consequences of allowing politicians and race hustlers to decide how we think and what we should do about things. Take the minimum wage law for example. He has been showing for decades that the minimum wage law affects low income and minorities the most all while claiming that it’s the reason that unemployment isn’t worse….

Will these people vote with Biden again because they lack the ability to look objectively at his term? Biden means four more years of an open Border(his action today was laughable), more uncontrolled spending by the government, leading to higher inflation and more important...prices? An appeasement foreign policy and weakness? And a Green Agenda that hamstrings our economy. We could not only be energy independent, we should be supplying the world with our energy. Too many reasons to list here, but one of the most important ones, from my perspective, is that he’s more interested in uncovering the actual truth - be it ugly or not - and going to the root causes of socially-related economic topics/issues instead of going for the easy way out by scoring political points. Although he’s been like that his entire career, it’s even more important in contemporary times given so many journalists & authors take lower roads…
If all his works, “Conflicts of Vision” is certainly my favorite, but am looking forward to reading his latest offering.

@@bradlee2594 So the definition of "earn" is that someone richer than you felt like giving you money, but if they don't feel like it, then you didn't earn it? Seeing as how people can be born into wealth, I don't see how they're entitled to power and moral authority too.

@@dudermcdudeface3674 - Sorry, you lost me with your question - and entire comment. The quote I offered does not attempt to define the term, "earn". The term is used with the dictionary definition intact. Rich people earn their money or can be born into it. Regardless, social justice endeavors to take their money and give it to someone else and somehow is absolved of any form of greed. Conversely, social justice assigns greed to those who desire keeping THEIR own money. Of course, rich people will criticize this aspect of social justice. And rightly so.
