"A+" got me in tears
Mike mentzer king of hypertrophy training
Compare this to yelling, moving around like an animal, jumping and swearing. Mike is the ultimate motivation. Steady voice, always on point, proper language. The music is irrelevant, any tune would do. It's Mike's show. What a boss he was.
The clarity of his rhetorics. One and only.
Been following this style of training for the last few weeks and have had amazing results. I get better results in two sessions per week than when I did 5!!! As a natural lifter I feel this protocol works much better than the high volume which is clearly better for enhanced lifters and which I stupidly stuck to my whole life. Can’t believe more people don’t train like this...
2 days a week?
I see this has been a year ago now, have you kept using this method of training? How has your progress been? Injury free?
even when an bodybuilder athlete is enhanced, it will be always better to do high intensity training.
actually the enhanced bodybuilder should less workouts and take more rest as its easier for them to get overtrained
@@user-cp7yw3lh5s yes but an enhanced athlete does recover faster than a natural athlete. Enhanced athletes just might overtrain more than a natural one because they think they can go to the gym every day which is obviously not true even though they recover faster than a natural athlete. And you also need to understand the fact that on anabolics it is more fun to train when you are pushing heavier weights so that encourages to train more often.
After Mister Olympia in 1980: a journalist asked Mentzer if he trained 6 hours a day to have that massive physique and Mike responded "..I train 3 days a week, 1 hour a day.." this video CONFIRMS that Heavy Duty is LESS is MORE!!! INTENSITY is everything and NOT volume.💪🔥
This is not heavy duty, it is HIT, with an interval of 5 days.
@@pavinivfxHeavy Duty = Hit = High Intensity Training.
Well that back machine is rare now
Sadly its not a common sight in Gyms anymore. A decent substitute is a straight arm cable pulldown with a wide bar.
dumbbell pullovers too
What is the best equivalent to the nautilus pullover machine please ? I know you guys have suggested two good subs, but I’d like to know the best alternative options .

are there regular style deadlifts after the 2 back exercises? Because in the video there are only 2
Ray looking deep into his soul 😂
@@Operahditzwhy if you now something tell me please ?
@@GeorgeForeman. NGL, it appeared a bit cringe seeing my comment from a year ago, but let me enlighten you about what I know regarding the events at that time.
Mike was building his personal training business at Gold's Gym, and over the next few years, his progress was steady and impressive. Since 1999, Mike’s younger brother Ray had been on kidney dialysis, waiting for a transplant. Mike offered to be the donor, but doctors found a serious heart problem that ruled him out. This meant Ray had to wait longer, and in response, Mike moved in to take care of him.
On June 9, 2001, the brothers were working on their new training DVD called HIT (High Intensity Training), which is the video I’m commenting on below. After a long, tiring day, Ray went to bed, but Mike stayed up late, pushing himself despite his heart condition. Ray was worried about him, knowing the risks, but Mike wouldn’t listen. Finally, as exhaustion set in, Mike decided to get some sleep.
The next morning, on June 10, 2001, Ray found his brother had passed away in his sleep from a heart attack at the age of 49. Heartbroken, Ray had to handle the funeral arrangements. Just two days later, on a Tuesday morning, Joanne Sharkey, the general manager of Mike's business, got a call from Ray’s dialysis unit. He hadn’t shown up for his appointment. When she went to his apartment, she discovered Ray had also passed away at the age of 47, just days after losing his brother.
Taken from another video based on the topic.
Mentzer! Brilliant man and his dry humor is hysterical. I’d be working hard to refrain from laughing so much.
While on vacation in Vegas I met Marcus for a workout. Probably the most intensive I've ever had.
How much bigger was he by then?
@@mertonhirsch4734 I don't understand the question. How much bigger was he compared to what
@@crashkorey How much did he grow up to wherever he peaked at compared to in the video? Did he got to the Olympia?

Great vid.
Love the way he bothers to explain fully for those not familiar with technique
Y’all we can’t let them take this golden 100% life changing devotion 💪🏽🦍 away frm us
The last 3 weeks has given me new life in my training routine. More recover time and less sets and time in the gym has provided results I hadn't seen in the last 5 years of the usual 3-4 sets to 10-12 reps a body part. Great for this 56 yr old!!!
Thanks Mr. Metzner(RIP)
for this HIT method.
Hey i wanna ask you how does mike workout for 30min when he does like 1 set till failure?im confused on this part and still didnt figure it out
@@mistywoods6560 Mike Mentzer preached to usually take atleast 4 seconds per repetition in order to assure that pure isolation and stress is placed on the muscle your training.
No explosive reps and occasional holds (for example: at the end of a set on the last rep for as long as possible or just short holds in between the set for 4-6 seconds) on the positive movement of the excersise and slower negatives.
If you train with such an intensity the average individual will need more rest time between sets. Mentzer said to only rest as long as you feel to as your muscles aren't dictacted by a clock it should be done by feel. All tho if you rest far to short in between then you could just guide yourself by taking 4-5 good breaths through the nose and don't forget to drink carbonated mineral water in workouts for the CO2.
Including all of this in a workout which usually should consist of no more than 4 excerises will definitely pump up the length of the workout.
Bodybuilding isn't about endurance but intensity and effort. It does not matter if your workout is only 20 minutes as long as your upmost focus is set on actually building muscle then you will make progress.
Start each exercise with 1-3 warmup sets, really low weight, only to go through the motions and get warmed up in the muscles. Then do your 1 and only working set with a weight that allows for the technique and duration you saw in this video. Lastly, only 1 or 2 exercises per muscle, that is how you get it done so quickly.@@mistywoods6560 Oh, and the working set needs to be taken to momentary failure like mentioned in the video, you really need some grit to pull it through
The thirty min includes the whole warmup @@mistywoods6560
This video already feels nostalgic even tho i found out about these old videos july last year...
Training heavy duty last 3 months, best results ever. Training only every 5,6 days
It works yeah
Indeed, I hit hella PRs
5/6 days before training that body kart again or before your next body part? Thanks
@@shanefox6016 the next body part
@@filipnajev8449
Thank you. May I ask for advice/feedback.
I started HIT doing 1-3 sets(3 different exercises) beyond failure about two months ago.
Because I am going beyond failure(negative reps after failure) I am finding it very difficult to do more (progressive overload) the next time I do the same body part. I am probably waiting 1.5 weeks before doing the same body part again so I am allowing plenty of rest.
I feel that because I am murdering my muscle beyond failure, it’s just so hard to murder it more than last time when I do that body part again. Have you experienced that?
I just feel like if I cannot either increase the reps or weight, then I am not progressing like i should. Making me wonder if I should go back to my traditional training? 44 year old advanced lifter. How can I grow if I cannot progressive overload each workout? I was able to add weight/reps each week when I did traditional workout 3 times/week.
Thanks in advance
SALUTE his energy clearly describing the on going method.

So jealous of the pullover machine.
This music makes my balls go into hyperdrive Testo production.😅😅😅
Dudes bout to 🥜
This is it
if you think about it it makes sense..
the body is a brilliant machine, it will ONLY rebuild its structure under HEAVY stress and if it has a big reason, the main focus is always to maintain energy (so we dont starve easily)
by pushing to the absolute max and beyond, the body MUST increase muscle growth to prevent injury
the 4-6 days rest give enough time to make it sustainable and give the body time to regenerate
That’s why Mike mentzer was the best
It would be nice to even find a gym with this pullover machine
Yeah ive never seen it before
Wish I was rich, I’d buy all the old school Nautilus machines from the late 70’s.
Flew to Vegas to train with with this guy being trained by mike. His name is Markus Reinhardt, and well.....disappointed sums it up! That being said he am still a HIT Advocate and think it the best way to train. After 15 years, not one injury. Thanks Jay
What happened why disappointed? Do you mind explaining your experience with markus.
Mike advocated trying different ways , but both these guys are true Mentzer fans, nothing wrong with a few tweaks and your only doing limited sets @@krazus2036

Where can i find this Plan of him with including the Pullover?
What can I use instead of Nautilus pull over?
I dont have that machine they were using for the lats(not talking about lat pulldown machine). What should I use as an alternative?
Never been to a gym with a nautilus machine like this.
mike has german blood in him also
How huge did Markus get? I can't find out what happened to him.
if i dont have a pull over machine, can I just use dumb bell pull overs?
I believe you could do lat pullovers instead, atleast ive heard it works similarly
How awesome would it have been to have Mike train you?
Hi, I have a question : Does rep speed matter if the end result is the same i.e. A certain amount of tut to failure ?
So if I do 30 reps for 2 second reps will it give the same results as doing 10 reps for 6 second reps ?
Thanks, cheers.
If carried to true muscular failure, yes. The difference is that 30 reps for 2 seconds is far less efficient since you are not generating continuous load on the targeted muscle area. Moving that quickly recruits momentum to assist the movement and disengages the muscle tissue. also, moving quickly will generate higher peak forces which risks injuring connective tissue. The purpose of moving slowly is time efficiency and safety, which for some reason people dont care about when it comes to exercise but they care about it in almost every other aspect of live. Mind boggling.
OK, thanks for your answer Jay
Think tension under time. I work as a high intensity trainer and use a 10 sec protocol. 4 sec positive 6 second negative without letting the weight stack touch. Less is more.
And he finish back exercises for 7 min
What is the correct product name for that Nautilus machine? Is it Compound Back? Also, did you notice how quickly he made the transition to the pulldown? That truly was "zero rest." Finally, does the current Nautilus company produce compound machines or approximations of them? Thanks.
Hmm I’m not sure what that machine is actually.
@@JayVincentFitness Since posting the question I have learned that it was called the Pullover/Torso Arm machine. Also, I understand that the late Arthur Jones considered it the upper body equal of the barbell squat for building size and strength in its respective region of the body. Thanks for your reply.
@@JayVincentFitness The PureHIT2008 site has a video in which a middle-aged - but exceptionally strong - male trainee starts the Pullover exercise and then immediately proceeds to the Torso Arm; then, with no rest, he quickly walks to the Nautilus Double Chest and begins the Arm Cross; after his last rep he uses the foot pedal to access the handles for the Decline Press; after he reaches failure he walks quickly to the Compound Leg and begins Leg Extensions; he takes those to failure and again without rest, pulls down the movement pads for the Leg Press and- incredibly - uses the entire weight stack for a final set of 10 reps! The entire workout takes slightly less than 6 minutes.
Please reply. Im doing this for the first time in a week when im finished with my regular program. If you dont have the machine in the second set, what is the best workout machine or exercise?
You can do straight arms pulldown instead of nautilus machine and superset it with close grip pullodwn.
regular pullovers
Drew Baye would get triggered by Mentzer's motivational talk.
Whats with the music?
So is there no lower back set?

Dumbbell cross bench pullover or cable pullover are good substitutions
That machine he's setting in ove never even seen, what can we do to substitute
I think pullovers with db could be a good option, i have been doing rope pulldowns to replace it
The music is too loud
Is it weird that Mike and Ray looked very similar when they were young, but as they get older, they looked nothing alike?
What is Marcus’s last name?
