I love how animated he is while singing. I love to see artists really "get into" their songs to where you can tell they're actually enjoying what they're doing and having so much fun with it 😁.
Dude is an amazing singer! Not to mention pure genius song writing! I can’t stop listening! Every version is great! So positive! Make a joyful noise! Don’t take anti-depressants just listen to this!
Sam Ryder is very fun to listen to. The way he attacks those notes, the dynamics, the push and the pull that are so smooth... just amazing. I wish he will find success and recognition he deserves.
I have seen him in Copenhagen in october 2022. I literally also met Sam Ryder two days ago in Copenhagen and said hi. He is such a nice guy🤩 and so talented
He seems to be the kindest and most unpretentious guy. I assume that really helps. He doesn't care how he comes across. He can abandon himself to the music. Master.
Ehh, it might be quiet and weak at first. It's definitely doable. It's the tiny high voice we pull out to imitate a cartoon. Just not used much by most, so it's weak at first.
Chris...Chris...Chris...I'm so moved by this video. I have no words. I can't even begin to talk about all the things that I see and hear and feel in this video. WOW!! Thank you so much. My biggest take away is that I just have to let go be free to play. Freedom, my friend. I started singing very late in life and I'm getting how important it is to stop being so rigid. Being free to play and explore, I can begin to tease out the technical stuff. Thank you thank you. I just keep exploring new pathways and you've just opened a massive door. Thank you.
Great technical breakdown of Sam's voice, he seems to have a versatile voice to sing whatever he likes, with a brightness to his sound that appeals to me. I've seen him live twice and he has a charismatic way of lifting the mood... Feel good vibes. He's obviously worked very hard to be the singer he is now. You were enjoyable to watch, thanks
I love that comment you made about the difference between striving or experiencing your voice. This experiencing makes a singer look so much more comfortable and also more pleasurable to watch. Glad you found Sam, he's such a treasure here in the UK. Just one of the most joyful and kind individuals you could ever wish to meet.
He said he had no singing lessons until March 2023 it’s all learned from his own practice and experience since he was 16 (he’s 34 now, 31 in the video).
Chris, i’ve only sang for a year so far and honestly, you’ve taught me so much. i appreciate you so much and you help me move closer and closer towards achieving my dream everyday. you’re amazing, Chris!
Well, first of all, where have I been that I am just finding you? I just learned more from you in 20 min than I have in all the time before. (not saying how many years that is). This is by far the BEST reaction/voice lesson on youtube imo. Sam Ryder is certainly one of the most amazing talents I've ever stumbled across. I was fascinated with his 'self-direction' as I thought of it, from the first video I watched. Here's one that will excite you: Fought and Lost live with Symphony. He self-directs throughout the entire performance, but I could swear he is also directing the musicians behind him. It is a tour de force of his range and dynamics. Please share it with us!
Chris, this is the honest comment i'll ever write. I'm right now in a place with my voice, where i'm really motivated to go through the work, to see results on my mixed voice. I've been singing for about three years now, first discovered my chest voice, then head, and somewhat i know what my mix feels and sounds like. The problem is, i'm having hard time finding the support and keeping it up. Usually i strain my jaw in some weird way, right now it's kinda jammed and i have to go a couple days without singing (right on the holidays haha). I'm writing this because i've burned out on singing so many, many times before. I've watched your channel for most of the time when i've been learning to sing, and i find myself understanding better what you're referring to with terms like air flow, compression, tension, support, resonance and registers. It's incredible to find myself in such place. I know my biggest problem is discipline and consistency, not giving up if you fail, and not only singing when you feel like it. Giving yourself some slack and remembering that these things take time. I spent 10 years screaming because when i was younger, i had NO idea how to sing AT ALL. That being said, i know my scream techniques very well, and i can even teach people abit how to scream. So i'm keeping a positive mind on the idea that maybe someday i'll conquer this ostabcle that i'm dealing with singing. If you have any tips how to loosen/relax my jaw better, that'd be great. Love you channel. You give me a safe space to discover my own voice. Keep up with this. ❤️
Well, Chris, after watching & practicing the liberating methods that you demonstrate in you're videos, I have found that YOU, make me feel comfortable!! I am continually asking myself, "How would, Chris Liepe act in this singing situation?" Only by adopting the freedom & non-judgmental mind set that you possess, have I been able to increase my range, grit, tone & care less about what other people might think.... I have fallen in love the sound & feeling on my soul, rather then the noise of others. THANK YOU!!! (20:23)
Chris, A+ listening skills. You pull some fantastic insights from that performance. As a kid who grew up shouting over loud drums in basement bands, I find it’s so powerful to (finally) really listen and understand what a great singer like this is doing. (Ah, if I knew then what i know now!). Thank you!!!
I appreciate so much your ability to explain and show why amazing vocal work is made up of such powerful factors and tools! Much more articulate that I can manage but fascinating to know WHY!!
Mannn, I love his voice so much. It’s so inspiring for playing around with dynamics going from falsetto to mix to compression 😎 It’s not about sounding just like him, it’s about using his voice to play more with what you have naturally 🤘
So emotional song is Stranger in Moscow. One of my favourite. I heard somewhere that "How does It feel" was the question police asked Michael in 1993. And then He wrote this song in his lonely September in Moscow. So sad. Thank you so much for this video
OMG thank YOU!I I've watched amazing artists get picked apart When they move their jaw While really in their art, OR raising their Chin too high, or closing their eyes, and Ijust never understood how the performance was completely ignored by picking details.
I think you make brilliant analysis, the things you notice and make us notice are super useful for singers. And the point I appreciate most is your genuine joy in listening the beautiful things other singers do, that's passion!! And choosing Sam Ryder, boy, I believe he is one of the most talented singers of all times, with all the respect for Freddie, Cornell, Steve Tyler, Bono, Conor Mason. He is at the same level, the top. Thanks for the video ❤️
This is an amazing reaction video i keep watching it! I used to be god awful singing, but i kept on an kept on and now i can hit notes that most people cant!
I am a VERY loud singer! I practice doing the higher notes in rock to me doing it butt falsetto or head voice when I don't wanna be loud and it really really helps me!😁 this is for anyone that belts!😅 I am learning this song for when I go to the voice!
There are not enough ears on this song. The thing that I will always take away from a Sam Ryder performance (apart from vocal brilliance) is the sheer joy he sings with.
Hey Chris! It's only been three days that I discovered your channel, and I think it's a real gold mine for everyone, from beginners to long time singing vocalists. I do appreciate the joy and excitement new voices brings to you, and it's very positive for everyone. I am a big fan of Leprous, a prog rock band from Norway, and Einar Solberg the singer has a very great voice. Have you heard Castaway Angel, from Leprous: it's one of their greatest moment in studio Cheers from France
Appreciate your enthusiasm and insight. Great vocal track. Makes me wish that the music would give him some more interesting melodies to work with, but the vocal work is impeccable.
These 'one takes' are usually lip synced. But I say he still did it, so...its still his voice and he does reveal some of his technique in the process.. I dig it.. 👍
These are teaching me so so much about vocals, I really appreciate you making these videos! If I may make a recommendation, you should really look at Cemetery Sun's Josh Doty or Giants Among Common Men by Jamie's Elsewhere Aaron Pauley is such a great vocalist, both clean and screaming.
His hands are also showing some of what his embouchure is doing to make those noises, i.e., the widening showing the more Cornell/Vedder-esque open throat, nasal twang
I love these videos. Motivational, inspirational, and educational! If you have the time - please do one on Teddy Swims - he currently came out with Lose Control and the live version is fantastic.
Haki surely 😢 watching from Kenya and am just like have got it but no way, ilove the way you do it ,I would like to be a good singer though I have horse voice, what can I do??
Chris, thx for one more amazing video, pls chek out Einar Solberg vocal, from Leprous. His transition between head and mixed voice is enormous. Something like "The price" or "Nighttime disguise" maybe)
Hey buddy, you need to check out Travis Meeks from days of the new, he is a genius. Try songs like freak, where i stand, enemy etc. all the different vocal colours are really amazing.
Hey Chris! I think you would LOVE analyzing and listening to 'show' by ado. Her freedom is out of this world. I would love to see a first reaction from you.
How I didn't find your channel earlier??? You should check out 'Believer' by Son Jin Wook (손진욱) (he made a cover of 'Tiny Riot' too). He definitely can make some extremely powerful high notes :)
@@tyroneevelynsome of the notes and lines when he distorts the tone in a high note in a line with emphasis on certain words reminded me of an mj sound and style too. There are little snippets of influence a major MJ fan like us can pick out
Hi Chris, please do one on Jim Carrey, he's a genius in every way! There's many clips available on UA-cam where we can see him sing. You can look at a clip from the show In Living Color in which he does a very funny but amazing Michael Bolton. There's also his performance of I am the Walrus by the Beatles where he demonstrates all the incredible facets of his voice.

Sam Ryder is very fun to listen to. The way he attacks those notes, the dynamics, the push and the pull that are so smooth... just amazing. I wish he will find success and recognition he deserves.
Wow I hear some MJ in that high distorted mix of his. The guy has impressive control over his voice and range
Master.
BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!! BOOOOOOOM!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!! No words needed!!! Thanks Chris, you are a light for all of us!!!!
It’s disgusting how much agility and dynamic range both Sam and Avery Wilson have. Makes me want to hang up the mic 😩
Ehh, it might be quiet and weak at first. It's definitely doable. It's the tiny high voice we pull out to imitate a cartoon. Just not used much by most, so it's weak at first.
Sing along to Kate Bush, the Beegees and The Darkness and you'll be powering through on that falsetto in no time.
Sam Ryder is most definetely a world class singer. And he also has some kick ass songs too.
