- Опубліковано 13 лип 2024
- Tier list of the used and new AMD & Nvidia graphics cards reviewed by Iceberg Tech during 2021.
Iceberg Tech has reviewed 29 graphics cards this year, some of them highly sought-after current-gen models, some past masters, and some I might rather forget. Which is the best? Which is the worst? In this video I’ll be ranking the cards in a standard tier list to share my feelings about which you should buy and which you should steer clear of.

As someone who carried over my 290X from my old build, I am head over heels in love with this graphics card. Driver support may have ended, but it still runs BF2042 at an easy 60FPS on medium, as well as Forza Horizon 5. I'll put off getting a 6800XT until my 290X catches fire and burns to a crisp, which it'll have a hard time doing since the Vapor-X model has such wonderous cooling.
I had a vapour X 290 and it was by far the best built card I've owned
Only other card that comes close is my 980ti Zotac amp
Agree fully. I will preface by saying I AM a huge AMD fanboy, hence why I own a flagship from every gen back to x850 xt. They have always seemed to on average perform a small measure worse than Nvidia. But IMO they age much better, and can be found at much better prices currently than the competition.
The only flagship I owned from ATI, was a 9800 pro 256mg bought at release for Half-life 2 (great card) and currently a modded X1900xt for an old powermac G5 Quad (one of the best card for ppc mac).
Great video. Think you were a too kind to the GT710. This is probably something you can revisit every 3 to 6 months or so. Would love to see where the GTX 970 fits in, prices seem very reasonable given the current market, and I would think they'd be an easy B tier, probably an A tier.
Great content as always sir! Keep up the great work! 💪
I still am rocking the RX480 8GB from my first build years ago. It is insane that I could sell for more than I bought it for way back then including inflation.
Great video quality, hope to see more great content!
Happy holidays. Good video.
Love the unique content, please keep it up XD
He has his place with the like of Gamers Nexus.
Amazing content as Always
Thanks for driving up the R9290x prices up Iceberg - just when I am looking for one too..... 😀 Love the candid tone of you delivery Keep it up and I look forward to your 970 review ;-)
In my defense, my 290X video is only the third most popular of the year about that card (though one is a comparison to the RX 570 and GTX 960 for some reason, and the other is in German). Still, I'm not ready to take all the blame here!
@@IcebergTech I don't blame you really. They are just the best option without paying stupid money. I will also look forward to the modded driver feature. Merry Christmas to you and yours and stay safe.
R9 290x are going for around 200-300 cad which for what it is is not too overinflated especially the fact that due to the driver support going down (exception of mods) its probably gonna stay at that price range. For what it is it's much cheaper and more powerful than a 1050ti provided you have a decent psu
Watching this video I realized how much the Scalper Pandemic™ has changed PC culture. It has definitely shifted from a mindset of focusing on what you don't have and how must faster your computer could be if you just had newer parts. To instead focusing on what you can do with what you've got and I find that really refreshing.
For example despite how good 12th gen Intel seems to be, I don't really see people lamenting they don't have it, there is less of an urge to just buy new things because they are more powerful regardless of if you're able to utilize that extra power. I also like how UA-cam tech channels have changed, I think the content is far more interesting and creative than it was 2 years ago. People are thinking outside of just benchmarks and finding new and novel ways to test parts and make content. I secretly hope that things never return to how they used to be.
yeah I'd rather have different youtube content than a better gpu too. /s
Totally agree for the first position: R9 290X is such a good card for the price in this shitty period😍😍
Obiuvsly i have one in my main PC 😉💪🏻
my son has the 290 with modded drivers. that fine wine mmm mmm good
I 2023, I have r9 380 8g paired with an 8350. I'm going see how much life I can get out of this combo. I will try the custom drivers
Well the Crypto crash is here, would love to see you test a lot of the pascal generation cards, i always loved them especially for the OC potential
Why did you put the r9 270 in the c tier iceberg that’s my graphics card 🥺
It’s personal. You know what you did! 😫
There are 2 or 3 "hidden low end" great performing GPU's that nobody cared about back when they launched, but proved to be extremely good value in retrospective and can play all the most demanding games in a mix of medium/low settings with 30+ FPS
The HD 7850, kinda sucks at stock speeds, but with voltage tweaking you can easily overclock it to 1200+ Mhz on the core, and get the same or even superior performance to the GTX 670 or R9 270X while using less power, since card makers greatly underestimated the importance of raw pixel throughput back then. The only drawback is the FL 11.1 and poor tessellation performance, The prophets said in 2013 that this would match or even beat the PS4 GPU and they were right. They just didn't predict that games on PC would have to render a lot more stuff than console versions...
R7 260X or an R7 360 with OC: This card over time proved to be faster than the GTX 750 Ti and the stock HD 7850 due to improved tessellation and geometry performance in complex world games, it also fully supports DX 12 FL 12.0, The catch is that you need to stay away from 1080p and anti aliasing, it is great if you have an older monitor that can only output old school res like 1440x900 or 1280x1024, those still look a lot sharper than trying to play at 1080p on an 27" monitor.
The GTX 950 is also good since people think that the 1050 is better when its not, and it also has good OC potential, matching the 1050 Ti and even the 960.
And 2 GB cards are not useless just yet, the trend of modern games having built in TAA has increased the VRAM usage a lot on higher resolutions, PCGamingWiki has a lot of tutorials on how you can disable it on some games trough an hex editor or console command, this will greatly improve performance and stuttering issues.
I would rather have these GPU's than pay the 250$ pathetic price people are asking for an used GTX 970!
I'm not in a rush to cover more GCN 1s in 2022. I'd make an exception for something more unusual, like a dual GPU HD 7990 (one of which I bought this year, but alas turned out to be faulty), but if I got a good enough deal on a 7850, maybe I could find an angle. Something like "1GB of VRAM vs. 2022" perhaps?
I'm certainly still interested in covering more GCN 2, for the reasons you give- the 12_1 featureset in particular is going to become more significant as time goes on IMO. The Bonaire/Tobago cards are on my wishlist, and hopefully I'll get the chance to test one later this year. I'm planning on starting the year with a video testing Nimez drivers, and if everything goes to plan I'll be using those drivers for all my legacy AMD tests in 2022.
I'm making it my personal mission to cover Maxwell 2.0 this year- in fact, I have two lined up already! The M2000 is one of my primary targets, but I'd settle for a 950 if I can't get a good deal on the Quadro.
Don't think anyone's paying that much for a gtx 970 (looking at ebay sold prices). Last one I bought was for £140, got one previously for £120.
Why is there no GTX 1080 TI or non TI ?
if you trying to game in ps5 xbox 1 this list is grate but new stuff ripping the 4gb any thing
Ahem. I don't really have anything to add. Just commenting for engagement. Lol
Another good video brother. Have a great morning, well afternoon, across the pond.
Hey Burg! Can you do the R9 360 2gb?
Sorry, I can’t really do requests; if I find one for a good price I’ll pick it up, but even then it might be a couple of months before it gets reviewed!
the best isn't the best if you can't buy them for a good price and if its available in our neighborhood. Anyways, I agree on this teir list and just hoping next year is going to be a gpu rainy season.
Take a look at the quadro m2000 or 4000! They are great as of now, because you can find a m2000 for 150$ on eBay even though it's got 4gb vram
They’re on my shopping list!
Is it good to buy r9 290x 4gb because I lost a deal with 8gb version someone bought it before me
Yep. I’ve actually never got hold of an 8GB 290 or 290x, my reviews have been of the 4GB models so I don’t even know if there’s a huge benefit to the extra VRAM.
@@IcebergTech ok I will get the 4gb or I will wait because I'm not finding any good deal
As a guy currently running his old RX470 4gb while waiting on the arrival of a 4090, I was shocked to see this card show up
i just bought a 6500xt from sapphire for 170€.
would be even happier about it if it had 8GB, but its fine for older games like eso.
Fun fact: a 5500xt is basically a 6500xt with 8gb
I see what you did there with the graph...😄
I found an R9 Nano for about $250, is it a good buy?
You can find 290X 8GBs for $190 in the US, so not really.
@@AugustGreen_ I'm not in the US, but 290x's do cost about 190 here as well
It’s certainly a good card for relatively current games, with some caveats I cover in my review. As for being good value… I don’t know what GPUs cost in your area. It’s in a performance class with the RX 480, 580, 5500XT, GTX 1060 6G and 1650 Super. Whichever you can get cheapest is the best option!
No nitro R9 390 in the lists?
I got tired of waiting my XFX RX 480 8GB to die I decided to get an RX 6700 XT even though the games I play aren't so graphically demanding and the RX 480 could handle them with ease. Great card
you should make a tier for these cards if you already own one vs buying one at current price
i got a nano for 80 euro a month back. it is loud
Modded drivers are available for out of support amd cards
Yes, I've been hinting over the last few weeks that I'll be looking at modded drivers in early 2022. Look out for it next month!
@@IcebergTech I"m mostly just posting that for those still unaware, really liked this video and looking forward to the next!
Oops I think I bought the entire UK stock of 290Xs. My bad
Please redo this list ignoring price - as if looking at "should you keep one you have?" Just rate on Performance, Driver Support, VRam, Game Support.
so im S and S crossfire 290x 6600k 4.6ghz still run my game
Why 1060 3gb and 6gb at same tier, it's litteraly different gpu's
The gtx 1050ti does not deserve the c tier it got. It was terrible value when launched. The 4gb rx470 obliterated it for just a bit more.
And if you needed the 75w limit, just get a 1050 or a 4gb rx560. Even on laptops the 1050ti was pretty bad value.
Also, the 1060 was EXTREMELY impressive. Much more impressive than a rx480. For starters at 80w it was still trading blows with the rx480 desktop. Something the rx480 never did and can't do. Not to mention due to the 6gb 1060 aged quite well. Infact, that 6gb vram really does carry it. And the fact that its quite efficient.
700 What!?
I Bought a Sapphire Vega 64 for 180 Euro 2 months ago.
In a country that has most BS taxes on tech in Europe.
That's because the crypto crash he was hoping for at 13:50 has happened in September/October 2022
Vega 56 and 64 were exceptionally good for mining, however due to Ethereum becoming unmineable and the energy prices skyrocketing these cards suddenly lost almost all demand on them.
I'm currently trying to get my hands on one of these cards, might get an absolute bargain, not too many people seem to be interested in those currently.
3060 Ti in D tier? Huh?
If you get the chance a 980ti could be interesting
Last time I checked you could get them for £200 on eBay auctions
But their prices bounce from £200 to £270
Yeah, fingers crossed I'll find one for the right price. The annoying part is, I picked up a Titan X Maxwell for £280 from CEX in the autumn but it grey screened after a few minutes of Fortnite, and hard crashed in Warzone.
the Rx 480 8gb is waaaay powerfull then the R9 290x ... even the 4gb version is way more powerfull and the performance is not similar to each other.
I have an RX 550 2gb. I’ll trade it for literally anything else at this point. Wanna do a review? 😂😂😂
I got an R9 270x 4gb refurbished for around £30 last year and it's still holding on.
Nice! I've been looking for one of those for less than £70, no luck so far...
@@IcebergTech The guy i got it from had 2 of those and something was telling me that i should've taken the other one too but welp. That GPU is still a solid deal apart from the fact that you don't have any driver updates, but still holding on lol.
I just upgraded from a 380 but would never recommend it. It can't play Halo Infinite. That's a massive drawback to me.
it can with modded drivers
@@livingthedream915 Where can one get this driver?
That did nto age to well lol
3060ti below 1050ti? That's a new one.
literally the worst gpu tier list
