When you say cold how cold does it get? I live in Northern Minnesota and it can get -65 below with windchill so that is why I am considering Midland. I don't party so I don't care about nightlife. I lived in Colorado Springs for 8 months and hated it. It was beautiful yes but so many people. I needed a GPS everywhere I went. I lived right by where Norad was by Pikes Peak. Currently my city's population is 14,000.
Cold is relative for sure. Cold would be low 30’s. That’s cold when you have triple digit highs. Nothin close to -65, I think you’ll be ok. I lived in the Springs for a while, it has grown quite a bit since I was there. There’s about 150,000 people in Midland.

Things have definitely slowed down since 2014/2015. Things are still a little slow in the oil filed due to supply chain in issues. Come on back! The oil field always pulls you back.

I don’t want to be the buzz killer but I’ve lived in Midland for 3 years. I have had some great opportunities and some not so great ones… it is a bit of a struggle here to get proper services and your basic needs meet through the people (workers). I have lived in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, California and other cities in TX. Midland is a different creature all together. Just my opinion. NO NIGHT LIFE is 100% correct! When oil is down the ENTIRE city shuts down.. NO WORKERS NOTHING! The prices for services and food are extremely higher here than other places including California. This is before COVID. They charge you “oil” prices! Ridiculous! Traffic is a joke here… they complain about traffic.. unreal! This place is great for a native Midlander but someone new to the area be aware!

Looking to relocate to Texas and have no ideal which city to move to. Would you stay there’s alot of blacks there like is it diversity? Also do you know if Lubbock a good area to live in for blacks?
Hey April based on your question you probably want to be somewhere like Houston or The DFW area. Give us a call and we can shoot you in the right direction. 432-231-0787
April you're best bet would be to move to Houston or DFW area as Jacob pointed out. I've been in Midland for 11 years. The only thing great about this area for me is my wife, which is born and raised here, and the church I attend. I moved here from Bryan,TX which is about 80 miles north of Houston. Lubbock is also an area I would avoid moving to if I were you. Do some research on the crime rate and car accidents/deaths in the Midland/Odessa area. That alone will change your mind.

You couldn’t pay me enough to live in this place , maybe sometime back in the day, it would have been nice to live here but not anymore. Have a lot of family that has lived in this area for years, not to mention Fort Stockton, Odessa and the list goes on. I feel sorry for my family and the people that live in that area because it’s going to get worse With crime because of the Biden administration not caring about who crosses the border. Been here for a month and this place is an absolute hell hole. Many oil companies will either force their employees to move here or try to sell you on “future opportunity” of working here. If you have any choice, don’t move here. This is quickly becoming the most miserable time of my life. Be careful about who you listen to opinions of Midland from as the main people that defend this city are either from here or have family that has moved here. That makes an enormous difference when moving to a place that has nothing to offer for quality of life.
Sorry to hear about that. Most of the companies here offer great incentives to come here, especially for relocation that’s why so many people move here. I will say no one is ever forced to be anywhere. We all make choices where we live. There are lots of opportunities here. There’s not much to do compared to DFW or Houston but it’s made up for in opportunity. It’s not for everyone for sure. I hope you get to move on to a place where you’re happy.
