Avatar Generations NEW 1 Year Anniversary update is available NOW on iOS & Android here: iOS: app.adjust.com/77qz0jw Android: app.adjust.com/77qz0jw_k53wg86
I still think they should stick to the martial arts fighting. It gave the magic system (bending) so much realism because it had rules. It wasn't just "fling your arm around and stuff happens", there were clear rules on which moves did what and it was consistent throughout the series. That made the series so much more immersive
And im glad it carried on in korra, but I am worried this new avatar will be more like dragon ball z fights, which avatarist stated were "boring". he even then says the creator aims to make it more like dragon ball z, that is a step in the wrong direction IMO
@@uncannybook581 I think he also said the creators wanted the bending in atla to be more like Dragon Ball, but due to budget they weren't able to do that
I think it would be damn cool if the next avatar would rediscover the old bending styles from Aangs time and gain advantage from that. A general rediscovering of the old times would be pretty interesting, maybe through the spirit world and Iroh, or descendants of Toph or other old Masters.
A very interesting aspect for a futuristic setting would be Spiritualism, or rather the lack of it. As fighting styles become more and more refined and efficient for real life usecases, as in defeating opponents as quickly and easily as possible, a lot of what martial arts represent gets lost. That is the aspect of not only mastering fighting but rather mastering yourself, and, through discipline, controled movements and rigorous training learning the limits of your mind and body, and how to go past them. Bending is similar, in a vein that to truly master bending you must understand the flow of energy within yourself, the philosophy and meaning behind the art and the movements used to control your element, to be in touch with your inner world so to speak. And the lack of that is exactly what ive been noticing in Korra. For example the lightning that repuclican benders create and control appears to be far weaker then those produced by Benders of the past, who could, using their Lightning, on a good day explode the side of a mountain. The reason for that i believe is that while, as said, bending as a martial art is becoming more efficient as a means of fighting the spiritual and philosphical roots of the arts slowly become lost over time, as benders stop seeing it as a way of life but rather as a means to an end. So, while more people become more competent at doing things barely anyone takes the time to truly delve deep into what is truly possible, besides that which can be easily picked up and learned, and so, while more versatile, modern bending is rather shallow, and barely anyone is able to create acts of truly grand bending anymore. So, what id imagine for that setting is this: A futuristic city. Lots of people, lots of crime, violence, hopelessness and despair. Gangs vieing for control, using modern, refined bending arts to combat each other. In the midst of all of that we have the Avatar, who, despite beeing able to bend all elements, is more or less helpless in trying to bring peace, as even with the bending arts he learned he is no match for the fighting gangs, as they easily overpower him as the modern bending styles he learned are simply not enough to contend with that many enemies at once. Then something happens, which drives him to undertake an expedition to the roots of bending, on a spiritual journey with his companions, to rediscover their true nature and whats truly possible beyond the hyperefficient fighting styles of modern day. He reconnects with the past, and through this he creates a new school of bending, one that unifies the modern, efficient style with the ancient roots of the art, and creates something truly grand, with which he vows to bring peace to not only his city but to the entire world.
I guess I wonder what makes the connection with the old ‘better’? The modern methods develop through ultilitarian outcome through trial and error over generations. How can the series convey the use of reconnecting to the philosophy other than make it more useful (which doesn’t make sense)? It isn’t going to be satisfying in an action show if it is just personally enlightening.
@@jmass4207 Good question, i didnt think about that. I need to come up with a solution, then again this was just an idea and nothing concrete. If i wanted to make this a proper scenario id probably have to spend lots of time on building the world and ironing out all the details, however im not really interested in doing just that.
@@jmass4207 A large part of bending in Atla was the philosophy/mindset behind it. That's why when Zuko swapped sides, he let go of his anger and lost his bending as a result. I feel like the argument here is that the overfocus on hyper-efficiency and being able to teach large groups at once led to the bleeding out of the philosophy behind bending, leading to weaker bending as a result, even if it is easier to learn.
Bending should not be affected by what has happend to martial arts changing into sport and mma. In our world fighting has not spirytual dimention to it. Bending is about enegry and it shoudnt be better if you make it more like boxing.
The thing is, Aang already showed that learned from the past is necessary to change the present (and ultimately the Future). I liked what they did with Aang a lot, and it felt like Korra was just going a more Marvel Route of things, where Bending became more of a Super Power you were just born with, rather than aquired/trained over a long time like in the first one. I fear the next one might bypass the training Parts completely and just give the new Avatar "upgrades" over Time, similar to David.
I feel like what happened was Avatar studios tried to replicate what made Avatar great in korra and they don't know how to, People create masterpieces all the time by accident and I feel like its just that, they don't know what made it great and how to follow up. Its why Kora felt kinda lost like it didn't really belong in the universe and kind of like a distant annoying relative.
@@thorntonpirker4037 I think the issue with Korra was ultimately the lack of planning for her complete arc (and for most of the characters). They didn't know that they would get more seasons when they were doing S1. Similarly for S2. When they did S3 they knew they would get both S3 and S4, so they could create a compelling arc for Korra: her trauma and recovery arc. Korra was intended to get with Mako at the end of Book 1 but the creators liked Korrasami more and went with it. Unfortunately, we end the series with Korra and Asami just starting their relationship instead of seeing it explored fully throughout. Asami as a character is presented as an afterthought for most of the series and she deserved much more. Mako gets sidelined and stops growing as a character. Bolin continues to grow and has genuinely good moments throughout the show. Tenzin and his family and the Bei Fongs have excellent development throughout the show. I think there was just a lot of poorly planned writing that ATLA doesn't have because that show is written and plotted so tightly. Every moment feels purposeful and leads to something satisfying within the show itself (except Ursa's disappearance, which required the comics for resolution). I think Korra just needed more time to cook (and in S4 some more budget so we didn't have the recap clips episode).
They'd better give the new Avatar "upgrades" over time, especially not with the Avatar State. I wrote that sentence and then remembered that Raava exists now. I was gonna say that the Avatar State is the combined wisdom and power of all previous Avatars, so with all but Korra being lost it wouldn't give much of a boost, but that just isn't true anymore and it makes me sad
I think a better way to get to a cyberpunk era instead of doing the next avatar after korra they should go a full cycle later to the next earthbending avatar. This would also help solve the past lives problem so this avatar can have some past lives to look to for advice rather than just korra. Also this would end up being like 500 years into the future which would be much easier to explain the major advancements in technology, rather than ust 100-150 years later.
This could be the next avatar. From the Steampunk-Firenation to a industrialised world was just the lifespan of Aang. What we have seen in Korra at the end with spirit powered robots is just like an industrial revolution again. After that Korra went to the spiritual world she could have lived there for another 50 Years or more. 50 Years without the avatar and an open gate to the spirit world could easyly nuke the world to the stone age or give them technology that would normaly be developed hundreds of years in the future
To be fair, 100 years isn't crazy for major tech development. Just look at what we have now vs what was around in the 1920s. And tech seems to evolve quicker as time goes by. 👀
here’s the thing bending isn’t just the physical action its also about philosophy and mindset. In Iroh’s first scene he tells Zuko “Firebending comes from the breath, not the muscle “ lots of high level bending techniques are about mindset, for example true flight can only be achieved by letting go of all earthly attachments, the most spiritual nation (air nomads) had a near 100% bending rate. I think that this next avatar will have bring that connection to the elements back
@@admiraloscar3320 I was just thinking the same thing! As time moves forward and they become more reliant on technology they lose their connection and strength in bending and only by gaining spiritual enlightenment can they begin bending.
I haven't finished Korra yet but I have heard that the link between all past lifes was destroyed or something. The next avatar can be a longer draw out spiritual journey about opening up the chakras and reaching enlightenment and connecting to the avatar spirit.
exactly the martial art or dance aspect (like the dragons dance) is a physical representation or manifestation of the spirit or desired outcome. still hope they keep it rooted in martial arts though
I think it would be a cool idea to see how 200 years into the series would change bending styles and how things either take a turn for the better or worse
If Korra is the best example we have.. I'd wager that breathing is enough to pull off Avatar level feats of EVERY element. You know, because spiritual sides of bending and specific motions doing specific moves etc etc be damned and all when you can just punch the damn air the same exact way and get different elements each time
@@impulse7942 it just doesn't make sense when you remember Toph had to literally try to kill Aang to teach him inflexibility because airbending movements and mentality were a "no way bro" for earthbending. Then you got Korra, throwing punches around boxing style and magically bending different elements with the same type of movements, or Mako bending lightning without the FONDAMENTAL need to channel his Qi. People might call me whatever they want but I'm still gonna say it: by trying to make bending more "modern", they ruined the entire system and what made it special. At this point, why not just make bending happen with a snap? It will be simpler and way more modern, right?
I still think while lighting bending was more common in Korra, it seemed alot weaker than in ATLA. I remember Mako hitting someone with lighting and it didn't insta kill, more like just a stun. Where else in ATLA, it was depicted as a much more destructive technique, and an insta kill if you didn't dodge in time and didn't t know how to redirect lightning. So while the skill was democratised, its full potential was not passed down, only those who had intimately delved in its nature like the royal family probably did would be able to tap on its full destructive capabilities.
I think they might focus more on the crime aspect and the next Avatar will be more thuggish. The Avatars' main problem so far has been gaining maturity and getting support, but what if the next one doesn't have anyone to support them. Like if they grew up on the street and tries to avoid the role of Avatar while doing things their own way, not caring about what people think of them. There is also a chance of a Dark Avatar immerging.
That or having an anti avatar in play, the world at that point would probably have to be near torn down to start anew, too distopiaon and quickly volatile for the avatar to really take full control and master the elements. They would be fighting criminals left and eight, and almost all bending would extremely quick and agile movements with much force as possible put into it, like a street fight with no rules, where the environment is just as dangerous as the people, metal being torn and thrown, fire or rock being turned to lava thrown at you before you can think, and blood bending and other forbidden bending running rampant, They wouldn't be able to use their full potential, because the world would really have powerful benders, just highly skilled fighters with bending. having an anti avatar would make their journey either 1. Harder because they then have a force actively working against them or 2. Somehow they both work together in a yin yang sort of situation to fix the world by sending it back to its roots, and bringing the spirit back to a world far from its original ways,
Something I'd personally like to see is an avatar that decides to focus on those specific bending subtypes: combustion, lightning, bloodbending, lavabending, etc. Like, I just think it would be such an interesting change of pace to see an avatar (or another character) whose mastered combustion-bending, perhaps even borrowing techniques from other forms of bending to manipulate the combustion beam in more unique ways; curving the beam more sharply, splitting the beam, stuff like that.
correct me if im wrong but i think they have to be born with combustion bending to have it, isnt the the 3rd eye symbolizing combustion bending and if combustion bending was already a thing in aangs days shouldnt there be more in korra? so yes i think its not something you can learn but rather something you are born with
Maybe the new avatar could be that, like he would live in a world were bending is so normal that to actually do something he would have to master all it's subtypes
Personally, I would love to see the roots of the mystical-side of the Avatar explored. The whole "keeping the peace between the worlds" concept was always so interesting to me, and people working together with spirits.
@@Rafa.mudo. and it ruined the concept of spirits, they went from unique dudes with amoral goals, it's just "dark spirit bad, do water bending to make spirit not bad"
@@geroni211 I feel like the show would have been better if the Vatuu encounter was the finale of the show, and the other enemies were just placeholder characters to act as antagonists until that fight. I personally loved how all 3 season of Avatar had the Fire Lord as the end all scenario and everything else was something to just be in between. Despite the length it was enjoyable and felt appropriately entertaining and paced. But after Korra beat Vatuu and it went straight to some lower pedastal guy who could float, it just didn't feel right to me.
I wonder if this will be a series where they switch to more sub bending elements. The more metalbenders, the less earthbenders will play a part... the more lighning benders, the less fire etc... Maybe wont happen this series but i think it qould be cool to have an avatar focus exclusively on sub bending elements, and maybe have to re teach the "old" elements
No old is gold the rare occurrences of the sub bendings is what makes them special and you'd be surprised at how dynamism could still be added to the old elements
The sib bending are more hard to archive than the normal bending, it was alr stated that So why would people try do something harder unless they need to?
Using their better understanding of science they could figure out exactly how to manipulate more fundamental elements and forces. Imagine if lightning bending was refined to being able to remove all the electrons from a region and suddenly create dwarf star matter, or an airbender refining and compressing hydrogen from the atmosphere until it creates plasma, a metalbender refining and colliding uranium, or a bloodbender discovering the relationship between chi and neurotransmitters so they can become human supercomputers like Mentats in Dune Combine all that and the Avatar could probably manipulate gravity so perfectly that they could bend the flow of time itself
Like Legends of Gengi. The Avatar was from a Sandbending tribe. It would have been SO cool to see that vision realized, but the series was cancelled RIGHT before Gengi figured out he was the Avatar. MAJOR cliffhanger!!! 😡
@@nicolas._.2294 I wonder if people growing up in a modern urbanized world, without much contact with fire or earth, might end up finding that lightning and metal come more easily to them. I mean I touch metal every day, but I can't remember the last time I touched dirt, and my house doesn't have a fireplace. I wonder actually what would happen if earth benders in the future grew up on a space station without any dirt on it. They'd probably end up really good at metal bending.
Y'know, although I originally thought they were just getting loose with it, you're actually making some very good points. Technology would progress and so would knowledge so it makes a lot of sense that these things that would be considered plot holes, actually would happen in that universe due to the expansion of knowledge.
Thats why i hated when people acted like korra was unrealistic when it mimicked our own timeline of advancement quite well and we dont even have bending, it also forgot to take into account that republic city was a one off and most people still lived in the country side
@SHADOWGUY425 except no it doesn't, bending isn't just martial arts it requires spiritual enlightenment. Iroh said the only way to bend lightning is to have inner peace, so unless the implication is they can bend without spirituality, which they can't, or that the average 9-5 factory worker has achieved a state of inner peace, just saying we'll of course things develop with time is idiotic. Technological advancements would lead away from bending, there is no way technology advancing would make lightning benders, the highest level of fire bending, more common. It had nothing to do with martial style and everything to with being able to manage the separation of chaotic energy inside of yourself.
@@danielorlovaquinnit IS unrealistic. ATLA established that bending isn't just a movement thing, but a philosophy thing. One needs to learn to bend that style in a specific way to also learn the philosophy of it, it's why Aang wasn't able to bend all elements off rip and had so much trouble with earth bending as their philosophy's were opposed. Korra, the moment she bent 3 elements ruined that. Every character freely bends and uses whatever style without any consideration for how that style relates to the philosophy of their element. It could make sense, the worldbuilding was ruined though and it doesnt
@@SHADOWGUY425it doesn't in the way it was portrayed, but it could. Korra regularly has the issue of doing things that should make sense, but disregards previous worldbuilding and makes it not make sense. This happens a lot
I mean, a spirit vine up to 1 inch long and 1 mm in diameter could be used as a bullet component for pistol or sniper rounds, instead of gunpowder. Even if each spirit round takes over a second between shots, they would have physical penetration properties, which have were first shown when Toph helped rescue her family from Kuvira
Honestly, I'm hoping the new avatar won't take place until about 60-70 years into the future, because it would be cool to see an avatar struggling with not being connected to past lives and possibly even having Raava and Vaatu merged with their spirit. I know the latter is unlikely, but I just can't believe that a child's spirit was able to speed up Raava's recovery, and opening a new spirit portal didn't do the same for Vaatu. It would also be nice if a new series tackled issues that many people face such as anxiety, depression, toxic family or relationships, addictions, burnout, poverty, etc. and in my opinion setting the story in our times would make it easier for vievers to relate to the characters.
Honestly, a good way to target poverty could be to involve non-benders. We have seen in the franchise that they constantly are being held back from gaining status, from benders being the only ones in charge in ATLA to most jobs being reliant on bending in Korra. It would make sense that non-benders will continue to be neglected and likely become impoverished because they can't find work without being a bender.
@@JamesTDGThe more I read through this comment section, the more amazing ideas I find, as well as being more worried about if the next show will be handled correctly. Non-benders being in poverty due to inequality with benders seems like a great story point.
@@JamesTDGthey could also explore poverty by making the new avatar live in poverty. It’s implied in Kyoshi’s story that the earth kingdom is bad at finding their avatar and Kyoshi herself was an orphan who grew up in poverty and ended up being involved with gangs. Seeing how the earth kingdom in the past had a thing for keeping their small wealthy communities separate from the average population, it’s likely this new avatar will at least be a commoner and not live the same comfortable life as Korra. And given that they might not be surrounded by wealthy/resources, it could take longer for the new avatar to even realize they are the avatar or that they can bend anything other than earth.
If the next avatar will be living in a sci-fi world, here's some ideas: Fingerprints would probably be around. Criminal earthbrnders could use sandbending to forge fingerprints. Bloodbending may become legal but only for bounty hunters. Airbenders could test if they could bend too pure gases. Like Helium, Argon and Xenon. A similar form to bloodbending for firebenders, chibending can force a benders to bend instead of controling their body.
I remember thinking that bloodbending could be used to treat blood-based issues and other aspects that could be used in practise by surgeons, nurses, etc.
Most of those don't make sense. Bounty Hunters definitively wouldn't be allowed to Bloodbend but maybe Doctors could (those that get a special permit). Also, only Yakone's family were ever shown to Bloodbend without a full moon. It wouldn't even be beneficial. Airbenders don't bend scientific gases. Doing so would break the Fantasy of Bending. Chi connects to all Elements not just Fire. You can't bend someone else's Chi. The Bender will always have more control over their Chi than someone elses.
@@legohunter1020 It's not that I don't understand why you'd want a Bloodbending Bounty Hunter; but it's more that almost no Nation would allow it. I could see maybe a politician or some really rich/influential person looking the other way; but not a Nation allowing it. I don't see the need for any other Element having it's own version of Bloodbending. Bloodbending is rare and any new forms would also be made illegal. It just doesn't seem worth it.
Huh. I found it interesting actually, not being modern but still closer, but I guess that's just another thing between ATLA and LOK that's A difference and completely perspective and preference related
As both an Avatar fan and a shooting sports enthusiast I've long fantasied how bending would effect/be mixed with modern firearms usage. A lot of people don't know this but proper firearm handling IS a martial art in and of itself with hours of training needed to be proficient in using, applying, and being accurate with firearms. We have stances, reload techniques, trigger control, hand placement, recoil control, and various styles and systems of how we move our bodies for proper application of our weapons just like how masters of blades would train day in and day out. A gun is a tool, just like bending. The user IS the weapon. That being said, I'm curious to see what benders would gravitate to which firearm stance. Would Earth Benders prefer crouched or prone shooting techniques with light machine guns thus opting for more defensive infantry regiments? Would Water Benders prefer the chaotic flow of CQB and urban fighting techniques and thus have some of the best modern special forces brigades? Do Fire Benders rely more on vehicles and use techniques and firearms that emphasize motorized and mechanized warfare? Would Air Benders prefer long range attacks, breath control with sniper rifles, and calling in airstrikes to deal with most of their problems? Just some food for thought
Reminds me of a scene from the comics where a young Azula complains that her firebending teacher said she was doing a form wrong but she defended herself saying her way made much bigger blasts.
Also people fotta realize how fast our real life civilization has advanced in just the last 100 years, imagine if we had benders we would be advancing 10x as fast. I do miss the classic fighting styles but it makes sense that society in avatar is advancing at such a fast rate considering all the cultural changes and nature of the world happened in ATLA and korra
I think with access to the spirit portal, people will actually learn or take inspiration from ancient techniques that were lost to time. Kinda like how Zahir learned to fly without a glider from an ancient air bending guru. Humans think they advance but they actually have a thing for reinventing the wheel. It makes sense that “new” bending we see to be call backs or modified versions of older bending techniques that were forgotten.
@@gimmeyourrights8292evolve it in its own "in world" way not in the exact same way our world developed remember this is fantasy there's nothing wrong with fantasy worlds advancing but don't slap new York onto it that's lazy af be creative
I think a cool idea would be implementing “artificial” bending like with cybernetic upgrades and some people becoming artificial avatars and seeing how that plays out
@@SameedChowdhury hold up. Maybe they're onto something. They experimented with spirit-powered machinery in the Legend of Korra. If the science was developed to manipulate spirit energy at will and artificially give people bending, you could theoretically turn non-benders into psuedo-avatars. What happened with the new airbenders would then no longer be something accidental.
With a futuristic avatar show I can imagine artificial bending being a thing. Or mutations from all the mixing creating more unique and powerful bending forms. Maybe even artificial avatars, who of course can't enter avatar state but have a way to bend all elements. Making the avatar not needed or even persecuted because they're afraid they'd get in the way. I think the avatar being unwanted or unneeded would be an interesting route to take.
When the next series comes out they need to go into their own direction while keeping the spirit/ basics of the original. The original is almost perfect and probably can’t be replicated, so they really need to just differentiate from it, even more so than Korra.
here is my take, They did it with Korra and people didn't like it, now they want to do it again... It makes sense that technology and bending is evolving, but all it really does is take away the magic from the magic system. Even if it is technically correct to assume it could play out this way... but being Technically correct doesn't mean it's correct. I say this will at best split the community even more than Korra, and at worst kill the magic and ruin it for everybody...
I think people are going to stress a lot less over this franchise once they get it into their heads that the creators don’t care about what you want. They’re artists before anything else, and they want to continue to be creative with their art as freely as possible. I wish the fandom stopped trying to micro manage every creative decision and just let them do their thing. If you like, great. If not, don’t watch it.
@@Simon-is2xd Yes but you’re not the target audience. They are making it for the kids. And if artists only created what the audience wanted instead of doing what they want to then it wouldn’t be THEIR art. Let artists be creative.
Maybe they could have cyberpunk elements, or even one setting, but they could also dwelve into the more spiritual world too, maybe even mixing both and finding a happy solarpunk-esque medium in them.
So your thumbnail reminds me of Brandon Sandersons Mistborn series. I wont go into the details of the magic system but one of the abiliteis is the ability to push or pull on metal. in the second series the world has progressed to having guns and things and you see really creative uses of the magic alongside technology, including people pushing on bullets to make them go even faster to take out multiple targets. Something like that in the avatar world would be wild
80s years isn't a short time for technological development in the Avatar world. In the original show, the Fire Nation already had combustion-powered tanks and coal-powered ships. 80s from that is more than enough time for things like electricity, cars, and radio to be developed. For an irl comparison, ATLA had the same technological scale to our world did in the 1840s (minus guns of course). Korra being 80s years later would put it in the 1920s which is exactly the era the show is based on.
Im not super interested in a modern world version of avatar or a future version of it. I think the world they built for Aang and Korra is super interesting and I would personally rather see more of that. If I want to see a modern world I can just walk outside. I don't think people are watching these series to see a futuristic or modern world. I think they are watching to see the really unique "older" world that was created. That being said if the series heads in that direction I'll give it a chance.
I do prefer more ancient times as well. I think it'd still be interesting if we went as far as 1960s or 1970s era. It's still in the past. As well as interesting points in the past.
I absolutely relate with you seeing the untouched nature and those funny hybrid animals was exciting, it gave the story a kind of magical touch. Even the technology in korras arc got pn my nerves a bit. Id love too se an avatar again in an „old“ unadvanced world Also u can see those future like citis or cities that play in our timeline in ecery other anime, if avatar dies the same theyre taking away the thing that made avatar special
They are going from fantasy to scifi and those aren't the same audience, there may be overlap but it's not the same. I think they were already struggling with this in Korra so if they keep moving in that direction they will be competing with a lot of heavy hitter animes that already have strong fanbases. They should scrap it and change directions unless they are planning on going for a long term storyline of benders dying out because of technology and having a societal overhaul to keep bending alive, which in my opinion will take too long and they loose a chunk of their fanbase.
Exactly my thoughts. They already went too far with Korra being in like a dieselpunk 1920's and so much of what made ATLA unique was already being diluted into a more generic universe. I'd rather have stories set before ATLA than anything after TLOK because technology and modern stuff would just complicate the universe. It pains me seeing all the comments wanting Avatar to become Cyberpunk X-Men or some shit.
It does worry me that the next avatar series will lose what made the original so special. Even Korra, I really struggled to enjoy the technology aspects of it. If anything realistically, a better story from Korra onwards would be benders are becoming rarer in society and old traditions died out and people depended on tech more. Then in future people with bending are seen more as hero types or enemies that normal folk want to control more. I know they touched on this is Korra, but I don't think they did this story well. Avatar was supposed to be seen as a 'god' in Aangs time. I believe this should have become more so in the future as bending dies out and tech takes over. Then it would make benders seem more special and more of a threat to normal humans. Just kind of like how superheros are seen in modern day adaption stories. I don't know we'll see how they tackle this. But I honestly felt the magic of it lost by Korras era.
Bending doesnt seem to have the "weakening with each generation" aspect some magic systems have... quite the contrary, the population of benders seemed to be kept at a certain level or even rose up. Korra opening the spirit portals brought back air benders, which means the world by itself corrected the karmic balance of the lack of airbenders after having it spiritual channels opened up. Now... if lets say... the started using too much of the worlds spiritual energy things could go that way, i still think the genetic side of things still applies and could serve as buffer to not immediately go that way, but maybe a third factor, maybe a plague that affects benders or something like that.
@@zavthe1371Realistically, if you can just shoot someone with a gun, using elemental magic becomes way less effective. Normal humans would likely reject benders and start actively hunting them down now that tech has leveled the playing field. Non-benders would eventually figure out how to generate electricity, create jets and helicopters (since we already have airplanes and the like), use computers and cameras, there's already giant mechs and laser weapons, etc. Benders would become less essential and be seen more as a threat or a nuisance than a necessity.
It's weird because it was established way back in ATLA that when societies become more from the spiritual world, thebending birthrate nosedives - the Fire Nation was the most technologically advanced nation in the world during Aang's time, and it had the lowest ratio of benders of the Four Nations (hence why they included women in the military), while the very spiritual Air Nomads were all benders. A cyberpunk world should have almost zero benders left, or be a distant memory if it's going to be set a few hundred years in the future.
@@sinjinreed2091All this time and I never really considered WHY there were women in the Fire Nations formal military. Aside from the Kyoshi warriors, the Fire Nation is the only formal military that has female combatants (think Master Pacu and the Northern Water Tribe, the females were only allowed to serve as healers until after Katara demonstrated her fighting prowess) This makes too much sense and is now my own personal head-canon, thank you.
Got em on some legal stuff but they didn't elaborate on it. All they mentioned was nick approached them with legal, they did the thing and that was all they could say other than it that legend of gengi was dead
Technically yes, but not due to legal reasons (but could have been legal if it kept going until it came close to the sequel series). The reason was because the group wanted to according to the quote I found wanted to leave room for the earth bending show
The most fascinating description of power sets in world building I have seen is from the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. Allomancy allows a user to burn a certain metal to generate a certain power. Most one have 1 power, with nicknames of what they are. Very well thought out and recommended
I really hope that the next Avatar focuses on a world where people just don't need an Avatar anymore. As you said, TLoK showed that not only was technology rapidly advancing, but the separate nations were also rapidly intermingling. Rare bending styles were also becoming more common. Hell, Korra needed to learn MMA styles because traditional styles just weren't enough to keep up. In Aang's time, the Avatar was basically a God. Even the Firelord powered by Sozin's comet wasn't enough to keep up with the Avatar state. In Korra's time, that power gap narrowed. People could defeat an Avatar state and giant mechs are also on the table now. If this keeps up, would the Cyberpunk Avatar even be needed by the world?
Well no the traditional bending provided way more uses than the mma style, Katara’s water tentacles that let her fight multiple foes, or water pulling from plants and air, or Tophs earth run that let her cross miles in minutes or ability to completely rearrange the terrain and take on multiple opponents the difference between Traditional bending and the new age MMA style is that traditional takes years to learn and master while the MMA style could be picked up and “mastered” within a year I’m gonna say how i honestly feel is that Korra took the power out of the avatar state, with Aang the avatar state was never used unless something major happened while Korra would use it to win a race, against war ships the avatar state was able to decimate an entire fleet while Korra couldn’t fight off a single person one on one the writers just clearly didn’t know how to make Korra work since she technically was a fully realized avatar at the end of season 1, how can you make someone who has godly power struggle? you have to weaken the godly power if anything they could bring back the importance of the avatar in society by having this new generation witness an uncontrolled avatar state that causes devastation and finally realise the power that ended the hundred year war
Way to send the series to its doom. The Avatar is the bridge between the worlds. What's the point of writing "Avatar - We Don't Need No Stinkin' Avatar," exactly? Tons of romance and charm in that approach (note the sarcasm). Or it would be a cheesy set-up for the Avatar to still end up having to save the day in the end.
I personally would love an Avatar story where the Avatar in question is a catalst for something destructive. The Avatar is not just some kind of brige between the ghost world and the different elements but also, a protector of nature and life. Now imagine Humans are the ones to destroy it all, the Avatar would naturally end up needing to make the hard descision if they want to let Humanity continue or if they want to bring an end to it at the cost of Humanity as they know it. It would be fun to have a story where an Avatar is essentially, the "bad" guy. It's not like they are beyond "bad" actions, actions that cost life or end up destroying things. Avatars in the end are their own people and I could see a fun story being spawned out of this especially if you consider the wedge between Avatar and the people closing and closing to the point the Avatar would NEED to move silently and thoughtfully to end up being able to do what they want to do.

What matters is the spirit world and the material world being in balance, and this is what the avatar does in the story
@@DeadlyChinchilla It's not "sending the series to its doom". It's building naturally upon the things that The Legend of Korra already set up. "The world doesn't need an Avatar" is literally one of the problems that Korra struggles with in the show. Now imagine technology advanced ever more because it sure as hell isn't going backwards. What do you think will happen to the Avatar then? If you want the Avatar to feel needed you'd have to justify why the tech which was already competing with the Avatar isn't enough anymore. Or you'd have to change the setting of the story and leave Republic City alone.
It would be nicer if they expanded the franchise by exploring the past more. Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk and others. One of the things I loved about the show was the ancient/archaic setting. Having us explore the past sounds more desirable.
i think movies would be better for the past avatars. unless they do one farrr in the past we know nothing about, that would make a great series. like that lady firelord avatar
@zconsci no shows or movies would work just fine these avatars have full lives of story that can easily fit into a show I do not ever want to see anymore future avatar stuff Korra already was pushing it
I just had a thought once you mentioned that brothers Mako and Bolin are benders of different elements. What if the next Avatar is an earth bender from a different nation? Or bends water first, even though is from and Earth Kingdom family of earth benders? Or part of the new Team Avatar was abandoned because they bend the 'wrong element' according to their family?
This is a really interesting thought. Only thing about that is every avatar has their most familiar style, and it is reflected in their physical features, (i.e. eye color, facial structure, etc.), so even if the new avatar is born into another nation, one of the parents or some lineage of ancestors will have been earthbenders and that will be reflected in their physical features (I would assume), but i think it would be a cool idea for them to think they're a different element to then find familiarity in their "born" element
This is actually Kyoshi. Her father is an Earthbender while her mother is an air nomad. Out of the 4 elements, She actually find Earthbending the hardest.
I love that they give us different eras and expand on how the world grows as time does. We never really get that in other fictional universes and it helps establish different eras to play with. When its all said and done, we'll have every genre of the Avatar to play with. Think of the games, expanded lore, etc etc.
Its funny cause the way they are doing the technology development, right now Korras start is in the sort of the roaring 20s. And at the end of the series its a bit like the tech starts mixing with the 30s but also has futuristic machinery oddly enough like the mech suits
This could either go really well or really badly lol I have mixed feelings on this. I’m definitely interested tho. However, if they plan on doing another avatar after this one (of fire bending origin), they should definitely consider having something catastrophic happen to where everything resets back to even before Aang’s time. I just don’t see where else they could go after cyberpunk
@@voiden5463 Yeah! And then we could have various colonies with whatever political/cultural structures separate from the Avatar world, or even star systems with a single type of bender, and battles between planets. Maybe sun-bending, planet-bending, space-bending, asteroid-bending, any range of cool, advanced, powerful bending.
....I þink its very drastic þat it goes cyberpunk at all. At least þe next one would give it some atomic age aesþetic and a cold war flare cause of þe uneasy peace among new rising nations (where þe tesla nation at? Or a bigger community of -vietkong- swamp hippies?).
Theres a REASON the bending forms had alot of motions, it was because those motions were NESSECARY to have the bending be effective, its what separated masters from novices. And LOK removed that.
Of course it did, martial arts developed and the precise MMA fighting style is more effective for close combat. They sacrificed raw power for precision
@@jayambi7695 The power was suppose to be FROM the precession. Doing the forms right was what was suppose to give them extra power instead of literally just brute forcing it to obtain more power.
They didn't "remove" anything. Show still had plenty of "traditional" bending. They just developped a new form of bending that takes inspiration from more modern martial arts, which was cool to see.
@@jonathan13co Doesn't matter if it was cool to see it made no sense. So yes they did remove bending being tied to the more traditional martial arts. hell you have a couple of characters literally start blood bending out of nowhere with their mind alone and not even doing any movements.
I personally want part the next avatar's storyline to be reconnecting with their past lives. Lots of spiritual journey stuff (which I think could be interesting since Earth is one of the less spiritual elements).
my personal opinion, i couldnt really get into the korra series bc the sheer amount of change that happened almost felt more like fan-fiction than actual lore to me. i really wanted to love it but a lot of what i loved ab atla was just shrugged off and kinda pushed me out of it. i really wanna love and get into the series again but im worried theyre losing sight of what made it so special
@@philipdeluca2077i mean its more realistic tho. Atla depiction of the fire kingdom was clearly heavily based off the time period where japan was industrializing while the rest of asia was still in a traditional lifestyle. If u look at real life the amount of advancement seen in that area after industrialization was truly shocking. The show represented that rapid transformation well. I think ur just upset that the setting of atla wasnt in the time period u thought it was. Atla wouldnhave been the equivolent to like mid 1800’s where tlok woyld have taken place in the equivalent of our 1930/40s. The amount of monumental change seen in the two series is actually one of the most realistic parts of the show but ppl like to think atla took place in ancient times so they cant make sense of it
I think the setting will look cyberpunk but that like inbetween Avatar and Korra we'll be impressed at what a short time it took for the Avatar world to get to this point, probably because bending is such a powerful tool.
If Korra is any indication bending is getting far weaker. The only acceptable story imo would be that bending is slowly disappearing and the avatar has to bring it back
I have enough futuristic "cyber punk" shows to watch. I wish they would do an roku series or really anywhere in between aang and the first avatar. Maybe they could tie the spirit world ability ( a connection to space) to a new ability like premonition or clairvoyance ( a connection to time) where in the avatar has visions of the distant future that they must contend with in their time in order to save it. Plus i just really dig the ancient aesthetic and wanna see more of it
wait until Avatar is in the far future and studies quantum physics. combining atoms of radioactive metals such as uranium and plutonium and crashing together to cause a chain reaction to create an atomic bomb explosion. it would end the chaos of the dystopian era
I really want the theme of the next series to be the conflict between the spirit world and the human world, as the original avatar had to deal with that, but this time, it was because of humans adapting more bending abilities into their lifestyles
Nah. The reason of the spiritual war is more like.. now human(in that universe) becoming more greedy. And also the population explosion. Just like the real life industrial revolution back in 1850s. People craving more goods. More money. Hiperconsumerism. Many people will be mentally ill because of this consumerism habit. Cant buy stuff, high rent prices, need raw materials especially oil, stuff like that. Deforestation and nature destruction stuff becoming a hot trend. And that obviously destructive to the balance of that world.
It’s so tough because LISTEN to your fans!!!! Original ATLA was AMAZING, unique, fun and captivating. Then you start getting into Korra and it’s ALL gone. The only good things were the level of fighting that happens, but how much better would it have been if it was original fighting styles still. I just don’t understand how millions of people can very clearly say “WE DONT LIKE THIS” and the creators ignore it and tank their entire series. Painful.
I don't know a cyberpunk setting would work out, it's already starting to be oversaturated like zombie themes by now. Hope they can manage something new.
I honestly used to want to see more of the older world before aang with previous Avatars but I also love the concept of going at least 200 years in the future. Reason being is because yes the concepts would be amazing but it also still leaves the creators a lot of room to create more avatars in between those or Korra and the future. They would have a lot more creative options to explore
I was thinking the next avatar series would be a lot about spirits because at the end of Korra the spirit world kind of blended into the normal world, so I thought the next would be about the next avatar helping these two worlds learn to live together
it’s not more practical tho Just think about the moves that she loses out on by not using more traditional bending, Toph could spin an entire arena to rearrange the battlefield, or use earth running to cross miles in minutes, or Katara using the water tentacles to face multiple attackers, or pulling water out of nearby sources like the air or plants, and air benders have significantly less attacking power than the other elements so it makes sense that they shouldn’t be focusing on just mma style fighting, evasion is crucial for them Benders are getting weaker by using basic punches and kicks, because when you control elements there are much more varied uses and using a basic punch would put you at a disadvantage
@@boshlovely2002 yeah you’re right I did think of that, but it’s slower and not as efficient, it’s like comparing traditional martial arts to MMA which kinda mixes it together to make it more lethal
Honestly I would love the idea of mixing technology and bending. Example none benders can experience bending and peoples that can bend another element. Or you can have it where if a bender has one of the things that lets non benders bend an element it can enhance there bending ability by increasing the range of the attack
It doesn't make sense for bending to evolve the same as real world martial arts though. A wide stance makes a lot of sense when fighting an earthbender, they can shift the ground. Wide spinning attacks make sense when attacking an airbender who can dodge to the side to the side fast as the wind. And while bending styles will learn from each other, it doesn't change the fact that each element's capabilities and specialties are unique. Learning from other elements can help lessen their weaknesses and compliment their strengths, but it doesn't make them unimportant. Firebenders have limited options for defense, so being very offensive makes sense. Airbenders have limited options for offense, so being very defensive makes sense. Earthbenders can create and repair cover. Moving a lot (in either direction) is probably riskier than staying still. Waterbenders have alright options for mobility, attacking, and defending. Adapting each moment makes sense. A fighting style that makes equal use of all four philosophies doesn't make sense for anyone but the Avatar. Zuko learned a lot of useful stuff from waterbending, but in Ba Sing Se, when Zuko attacked with a waterbending move and the Dai Lee blocked, he was out of luck. Attacking like a firebender and going all in on offense probably would've made more sense. TL;DR: In real life all fighters have the same basic capabilities. That's not true in the Avatar world, so it doesn't make sense for them to fight the same as us or each other.
exactly bending has so many applications that it makes no sense that the bending styles would just phase out, Katara’s water tentacles, steam production, or Toph shifting the entire arena or earth run are varied uses of water and earth that regular mma movements won’t produce not only are they losing the core function of bending but they also become so limited in what they do
@@boshlovely2002 I do remember one thing I saw was someone attaching the perceived weakness of the Korra characters to their bending styles being commodified from being something rooted in a tradition, learned for self defense and self discipline, to something used as a tool for work. Also that in a city there are less stone surfaces you can throw without defacing something, less room for fire to be safe to throw, etc. So they make do with what they have, forms that work well enough and attacks that are unlikely to disrupt the city unlike the bending Korra shows off.
Honestly I hope they don’t go that rout , if they do I really hope avatar serves as a “messiah “ to bring back the traditional knowledge and ways , cuz so far I’ve always admired avatar in the way that it created its own lane , it wasn’t like western cartoons but it wasn’t like an anime , it had its own space , even with Korra and I hope they keep that balance and expand within that rather than becoming more anime-like with art style , more punch-like , shortcut bendings and giant robots …….IF they do that I hope , again , avatar serves as a messiah
@@Simon-is2xdthey absolutely ruined the spirits in Korra, they were representations of the environment around them that had questionable morals that didn’t align with being simply good or evil, and the atmosphere around one’s appearance was so hype so let’s hope they stay away from the spirits this time because i can’t with how they massacred them
It would be fun if in the future after so many generations of mixing elements that things like sand bending, lightning bending, and bloodbending were more common than fire, water, and earth. Then the avatar uses the orginals and is seen as strange for not using sub bending types
It makes sense to do a cyberpunk style avatar especially since he's gonna be an earth bender. That means he can fight robots with metal bending and maybe create bone bending by finding the metal installed in future humans. Futuristic and bending seems like a deadly time to be alive
Tbh I think it would be weird to see the cyberpunk stuff in the avatar verse. Maybe it’s just my view but I think if they do that it might make the series lose it’s originality.
@@catnoir6469I'm fine with the cyberpunk stuff, but it shouldn't be the NEXT avatar. We need to at least reach modernity before skipping straight to cyberpunk
I’d be fine with it if they would combine their bending with tools to save energy (kinda), with the downside that many are not able to perform grand bending anymore. And then the issue is that grand stuff happens, or perhaps some natural desaster, and Someone such as the avatar is needed to use their grand bending abilities to deal with it. Like, you can’t stop a volcano with bullets, can you?
To me one of the only ways the could pull this of for me is that they ban bending entirely. And have them blocked by energy benders with a few who escaped the energy bending and that way make bending more special and feared again. The story could be about stopping the ban. And giving people back there bending. But lock away some subbending ability’s in some way. Also if the syberpunk style city leak is true. And it is distopian I would like to see a more ruthless avatar.
Cyberpunk Avatar is very likely. Right after the gate to the Spirit world was opened they develop the technology to turn spirit energy into laser guns and robots. Then Korra just left to the spirit world. Just imagine what Varrick and others could have done in decades with this technology. When I think about that I see a big non-bender revolution with technological superiority, colonization into the spirit world and enslavement of the spirit world and much more. I think the new avatar series could have a very dark and mature setting compared to the old seasons.
So, basically have Amon's dream come mostly true? No, I think that would be horrible. Personally. Also, we saw an evil Avatar. It wasn't very good. Otherwise you can look to Kyoshi. I'd rather the creators expand Bending rather than limit it. If only a few Benders exist; it'd start to feel like X-Men or something. Adding new Primary Elements would be better in my opinion.
I think it would be cool if the next world is straight up overpowered machines & guns similar to Boruto and the main storyline being something along the line of “is bending still viable” hence the Avatar makes that difference known
We all know about water benders being able to freeze water but I have never seen anyone talk about the opposite, they should be able to rapidly vibrate water molecules and cause the water to boil instantly, possibly even superheat the water way beyond boiling point. Imagine a water bender bending the sweat of an armoured opponent, superheating the sweat and burning their opponent. Or super heating/freezing their blood. Water bending taken to the extreme is crazy powerful!
I believe it will be like BHA World... In the anime, there is a hypothesis for the end of times. Apparently with each generation the quirks people are born to grow stronger, complex, and dangerous; it's said that if one baby is born with a really powerful quirk it might end the world because of the lack of control over it... Now, I imagine the avatar world in the next season will be dark, very *dark.*
@@inspector5122 Avatar is a fun, adventurous series that makes me feel like a kid again. Yet, still mature enough for me as an adult. I prefer that balance.
I feel so old (OG fan I was 12 when the pilot aired in 2005) and would tell anyone else that mentioned ATLA about how each element is tied to an actual martial art (Ba Gua, Tai Chi, Hung Gar, Northern Shaolin) which is why the fight scenes were so sick and realistic. I know that in Korra they added some boxing and other styles but I seriously hope they preserve the martial arts in this show. This video is awesome and accurate.
How do you think Kora leaving open the spirit portals will play into the next avatar series? Also, the development of atomic spirit bombs and spirit radiation seen in avatar wan
I think a possible setting could be a technology driven non-bender revolution, a genozid on benders, colonization of the spirit world and enslavement of the the spirits and a very distopic world.
It would be interesting if the next series has the avatar reinvigorate the traditional bending styles is a world where less and less people do “martial arts@ based bending. I could imagine if new technology made things like advanced guns where benders just had to channel chi into them to get elemental blasts Kinda like Peter Quills elemental guns. Or maybe shards that can channel elemental attributes like in naruto.
I actually had a concept/idea that there could be a special kind crystal/stone that absorbs Chi and prevents Bending. Any attempt at Bending at it or close enough to it would just absorb Chi. Even Earthbenders couldn't Bend this type of special Crystal. The Crystal would change color based on the Element it absorbs (Green for Earth, Red for Fire, Opaque/Gray for Air and Blue for Water). It can only hold one Element. These would act similar to "Sea Prison Stone" in One Piece. A Bender can't bend when these crystals absorb the person's Element. I call them "Chi Crystals" or "Chi Stones".
@@alexissandoval1284 No, it doesn't weaken them. It just prevents them from Bending. Like Chi Blocking but more long term. They don't lose their physical strength when near these Crystals. Their Bending just stops. Edit: Also, since these Crystals can only absorb 1 Element per Crystal; they can allow for the other 3 Elements to still be effective. So, if you have a Firebender prisoner with a Fire Chi Crystal; a Waterbender wouldn't be effected by it.
I would really like to see how bending techniques have evolved for bending and even seeing them bring back ancient bending techniques as part of modern healing protocol. Like the ability in the Kyoshi books to use water bending to essentially just barely freeze a body so they can survive long enough to be healed elsewhere. I could see modern avatar world ERs and EMTs using that technique to save people from motor vehicle accidents and things like that. Also even if they do cyberpunk, I do hope that they still preserve some of the traditional aspects in avatar similar to how in countries like Japan have modernized areas but also areas that are untouched by technology or preserved traditional architecture. Also even if some areas do advance to cyberpunk, there will always be poor villages that aren’t advanced or using that technology. Imagine if the new avatar was actually born in poverty and when they go to an advanced city for the first time, they experience a culture shock from it.
I think the mixed martial arts is fine, I think Korra went overboard though in allowing everyone to do specialized bending. Like lightning originally wasn't just a lack of knowledge. It was a lack of a state of mind.
It would be really cool if benders in the future leaned further and further into the sub categories. So much so that they begin to be unable to bend the original element. Focusing their fighting exclusively on something like lava bending to the point where it essentially becomes it's own "element". which would work well with the new subclass symbols.
Gonna rewatch Aang and Korra's stories when the next Avatar comes out Also I wonder how they will link Korra into the new avatar since this means she lived for around 200 years if the next avatar would have been bored after her death. Does this mean Korra could have been a high rank official in her old age or will she end up more like Toph and spend her day in peaceful solitude?
6:30 There is a theory that only benders with roots in both firebending and earthbending can lavabend. If that's true, then as time progresses and all the nations become more intertwined, the amount of lavabenders should grow exponentially
That was my first thought when Bolin startet lavabending, it would just make sense. He doesnt necessarily have to be able to firebend, but having the genes and living and fighting with a firebending brother, probably subconsicously copying firebending technique, it just makes sense when he can lavabend
@@nicolas._.2294 Thats also smth i thought about, every bender can control the heat of their element (airbenders warming the air around them, iroh carefully brewing his tee, waterbenders freezing water and earthbenders melting rock?)
Well, lore accurate I can say this. 1. The next Avatar, just after Kora is going to be an earth bender. 2. The mission of the Avatar is to fix the problem it's previous self made.
Imagine a world where something happens and the knowledge on theese advanced forms of bending gets lost (lightning, metal, bloodbending etc.), and the people are left with the basic forms of bending (earth, air, water, fire). Then they discover these subbending types
It would be an interesting and new take on the avatar franchise. Hopfully they make the story and carather writting grounded, balanced and great. It would be nice if they also explored healing abilities with blood bending.
I’m writing a story that doesn’t focus on the next Avatar but rather a girl from the southern water tribe who sets out to find them. It would be set 50, maybe 55 years after Korra, as well as delve deeper into the spirit/human coexistence and how the choice to leave the portal open affects everything. Psychology is the main theme and instead of the Avatar being the “messiah” or bringing balance, they go AWOL
Even though it wouldn't be nice to see evolved bend styles, but i can also imagine that bending styles get lost in future. For example levitating. In Kora it already was kinda a legend and only be achieved through letting lose of all physically, or some sort of mentality, which in my opinion seems to be pretty hard to do for some people. To just sit in silence for longer that 10 minutes and thinking of nothing, what i imagine to be necessary for some techniques. So yeah might be also an interesting idea :D
I can already see what it's about. The recent avatars are progressing too fast and this avatar has to rebalance things because the spirits have not gotten used to this progress or something like that. I'm excited if I'm right or wrong I'm hopeful I'm delighted
The bending is cool, but it is far from my favorite things from the show. Like the excellent character development with Zuko. Besides that the best thing about the show in my opinion is Uncle Iro.
I think the instinct to move forward was correct but that they moved too rapidly, with these new styles being in place inside a year. What’s missing is even more narrow cast skills being discovered as civilization progresses. Luckily, throwing this next series hundreds of years into the future will remove much of that, although I wonder how many non-benders would realistically be left by then.
Dang. I was hoping the next Avatar series would follow both the Earth and Fire Avatars. Through some sort of hiccup during the reincarnation cycle the avatar had been reborn to two different beings. The prince of modern day Omashu and a Fire Nation orphan. They would look identical giving a Prince and the Pauper vibe. Their only difference being in their bending capabilities. While they are both the avatar, they can only bend half the elements and cannot bend their native elements. The Earth Avatar can bend Air and Fire, while the Fire Avatar can bend Water and Earth. Meaning they gotta work together to do more complex forms of bending and come up with ways to compensate their weaknesses when they are apart. Basically having to learn to fight as one since they are two halves of the same person. If something happens to one of them the other is at the same risk since they share the same spirit. Well we are still in the rumor phase so maybe they could still surprise us.
@@muncherofpizza this isn't the first idea of mine that has triggered this reaction. I seriously need to build up my confidence stat so that i can pitch these ideas and not miss another window of oppurtunity like with Winx Club and the main Pokémon anime series.... Third time should be the charm *nervous laugh* other ideas include a TMNT series where the turtle brothers started out as humans and the Shredder is a lot more monstrous with his mutation experiments. May need a content warning at the start of each of the more darker episodes...and an attempt at bringing to life a Kingdom Hearts Animated series where instead of Donald and Goofy, Sora's adventures are with Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Max. There would be a few filler/character focused episodes on the gummi ship in between the world hopping...granted i may have to remove Final Fantasy to spare them from kiddification under modern Disney's rule, but Square Enix will still make money for everytime a KH originated character appears so they arent exactly being screwed. Also other characters can handle exposition such as Merlin and Fairy Godmother from KHI. Which leaves olympus open for an entirely different story route where after the Deep Jungle is swallowed by the Darkness due to their constant bickering and lack of empathy towards Sora's situation of having lost his home, Queen minnie suggests to them that they should seek out phil in Olympus so they may learn how to better cooperate with each other as he had at one point helped Mickey, Donald and Goofy when they were around their age. Yes this plays around with the Disney multiverse continuity abit but if it helps give Nomura a vacation and a little extra funding in the event of having to delay a future release i think it could work well. But thats probably just me
When Iroh invented lightning redirection, he told Zuko that he was inspired by waterbenders. How they let the chi flow throw them and out. Lavabending/sandbending is an earthbending bending style that introduces fluidity into earthbending. A lot of bending was invented by just using a elemental style on a different element.
DBZ style fighting in Avatar, still feels weird to me. Like I love DBZ (and even Super to an extent), but wasn’t the whole point of the bending in the first place, that Nickelodeon didn’t want just normal fighting that could be replicated by the audience watching
@@uncannybook581same....it would have been better instead of a show after Korra, do a show before the original...maybe some time after Avatar Wan so we could still have the original style of bending which is far more beautiful, awesome and unique.
I despise all these changes. Lighting bending went from something that only prodigies could do to pretty much everyone could do. Zoku couldn't even do it and he was an incredible fire bender. So dumb
It's definitely hapenning. Power dynamic in LOK, is far more over the top than ATLA. I mean, blood bending, spirit bending (what a load of crap). If a new series comes, it may even put the power dynamic shift of LOK to shame.
Well no not really. Lightning Bending was rare and only taught to high level fire benders because it was kept away from other fire benders. Zuko had a lightning bending teacher and sure he may eventually learn it but it would be harder especially since he learned it at an older age when his personal beliefs were all up in the wind. Now stop hording the information and younger fire benders would be able to learn the art while young and progress it further than those stuffy Nobles that kept it only restricted to their select masters. Over time new techniques would be developed and new ways of looking at it to allow for people to learn it easier. The same with anything you need to teach. Do you cry that people can read now and we don't just have the richest people with the ability to read? Because that is what happened with Literacy. It began to enter into a world outside of the super elite and more and more people learned to read and people learned ways to teach how to read. Its not a genetic purity issue.
@@sibinsamthomas4719 Its funny that you think only one person would have figured out blood bending in thousands of years. You lot are very "Genetic Purity" centric and its fucking weird and has no place in ATLA. Spirit Bending was something only the avatar can do because they have a LITERAL god-level spirit inside of them helping them do it.
@@TheLastSane1 I don't mind that non nobles can do it. The problem was it's supposed to be extremely difficult and requires inner balance. The ability to properly separate positive and negative energy.
One thing to consider for the world of avatar are the nonbenders for the next avatar my theory is that if there's a next villain/antihero where they know the movement of bending but it's applied to hand to hand combat. One thing Avatar lacked was hand to hand combat, since all benders in the series have been using their bending as ranged attacks never thinking a situation where they have to be up close and personal (I could be wrong though) they could take some inspiration with Naruto with their hand to hand to make it more creative like witg part 2 of the day of black sun. Since one thing that could be a big problem later on with Avatar is how defenseless the non benders, they're on a constant losing battle with benders overtime who knows if the show progress they'll be a time where nonbenders don't exist anymore.
they should make a special character that uses both guns and bending uniquely of both for example: "an air bender that uses old style evasive moves while using a air pistol to hit pressure points" but it's an idea for a cyberpunk-est style and development of bending 😇 ty for my ted talk
It would be interesting to invest a bit of the lore in this 3rd series towards seeing how oppressed non-benders could become. Just having these high-level techniques being the norm just means one thing, if you're born without bending, you're essentially screwed out of progressing in the world. Having this coming avatar being born of a non-bending family that is from the Earth nation could help invest into it, especially if they are a late bloomer
Honestly I hope Republic City won't become a total dystopia, or at least, not without a good explanation. Like, the situation in TLOK made sense after Aang as an avatar, because his goal was to unite the four nations in peace, but not particularly to deal with the inequalities between benders ans non-benders for example. So yes, there were a lot of tension around this question during Korra's time. I want the next generation world to make sense, just like the TLOK era made sense.
The mistake of Avatar Korra was make her the Avatar in a world that doesn't need an Avatar. Because if the world doesn't need another Avatar, there is no point in continuing the story of the Avatars. Because the world won't need them, and that will just make them a variation of Korra's story.
it would make a really fun plot like imagine a war between the benders who thought all this technological stuff is bad vs a highly geared up non-benders

Maybe to safe the world changing the rules of blend to be not op.
Atla fighting styles are too slow bruh
@@uncannybook581 I think he also said the creators wanted the bending in atla to be more like Dragon Ball, but due to budget they weren't able to do that
@@x97k8 why?

“BUT IM NOT OUTTA OPTIONS”
Honestly would be dope lol I really like the continuation of the series setting
From Kung Fu to Gun Fu.
chi glocking
And the other guy just stops the bullets mid air because he has bulet bending.

I think it would be damn cool if the next avatar would rediscover the old bending styles from Aangs time and gain advantage from that. A general rediscovering of the old times would be pretty interesting, maybe through the spirit world and Iroh, or descendants of Toph or other old Masters.
I would love that
What did you have in mind specifically?
Correct i agree 💯🙋🏾♂️ 💪 that's the spirit Dackel
Combining old with the new
My mind created the idea of Iroh teaching waterbending, due to his study on waterbenders, and now I cannot stop thinking about it
A very interesting aspect for a futuristic setting would be Spiritualism, or rather the lack of it.
YEP, a spiritual journey and maybe delving into enlightenment.
That happens in real life aswell, we learn things at such an advance rate compared to lets say the 60s its to Be expected
I couldn't get past through first few episodes of Korra, the soul of Avatar is lost there.
Though it is true the avatar universe is advancing more quickly in tech than our own. (How quick republic city changed)
Probably incorporate time travel and multiverse in the future, so that way
Avatar Studios will have an excuse for going into the past
To be fair, 100 years isn't crazy for major tech development. Just look at what we have now vs what was around in the 1920s. And tech seems to evolve quicker as time goes by. 👀
Or, just hear me out, minor retcon, Korra was just disconnected rather than wiping out that vast repository
here’s the thing bending isn’t just the physical action its also about philosophy and mindset. I think that this next avatar will have bring that connection to the elements back
+
Maybe bending could become less common because people lose thier conection to the philosophy of bending?
The show will be set 100 years.
i mean you get little bits of that when you read the novels, mainly fire bending techniques
I thought the next avatar took place in the 60s
As long as it's not the one from Korra season 2.
That story already exists sort of, its called avatar kyoshi, she was a criminal at some point
Haha that’s basically Avatar Kyoshi
A dark avatar would be cool, but impossible since Raava is the embodiment of good and is inherent to the avatar cycle
I do think that Combustionbending could get new techniques.
correct me if im wrong but i think they have to be born with combustion bending to have it, isnt the the 3rd eye symbolizing combustion bending and if combustion bending was already a thing in aangs days shouldnt there be more in korra? so yes i think its not something you can learn but rather something you are born with
The only sub bending aang knew was ice and crystal. id like to see him use crystal alot more
Maybe the new avatar could be that, like he would live in a world were bending is so normal that to actually do something he would have to master all it's subtypes
that's what im thinking too
Personally, I would love to see the roots of the mystical-side of the Avatar explored. The whole "keeping the peace between the worlds" concept was always so interesting to me, and people working together with spirits.
well that's what a lot of what korra was about and honestly that was the worst season imo
@@Rafa.mudo.but the season was the worst because it was very poorly written and all over the place, not because of it's theme
@@geroni211 oh absolutely
The sib bending are more hard to archive than the normal bending, it was alr stated that
So why would people try do something harder unless they need to?
Using their better understanding of science they could figure out exactly how to manipulate more fundamental elements and forces. Imagine if lightning bending was refined to being able to remove all the electrons from a region and suddenly create dwarf star matter, or an airbender refining and compressing hydrogen from the atmosphere until it creates plasma, a metalbender refining and colliding uranium, or a bloodbender discovering the relationship between chi and neurotransmitters so they can become human supercomputers like Mentats in Dune
Combine all that and the Avatar could probably manipulate gravity so perfectly that they could bend the flow of time itself
Props to your editing skill at 5:20 i hadn't noticed that zuko has already been incorporating different bending styles into his own.👍
Y'know, although I originally thought they were just getting loose with it, you're actually making some very good points. Technology would progress and so would knowledge so it makes a lot of sense that these things that would be considered plot holes, actually would happen in that universe due to the expansion of knowledge.
Thats why i hated when people acted like korra was unrealistic when it mimicked our own timeline of advancement quite well and we dont even have bending, it also forgot to take into account that republic city was a one off and most people still lived in the country side
the lightning bending being more common just makes sense, of course Zuko wouldn't hide knowledge that could benefit more people
@SHADOWGUY425 except no it doesn't, bending isn't just martial arts it requires spiritual enlightenment.
The new avatar: "I have mastered every technique in bending-"
The villain: I use the gun technique
I mean guns are just projectiles like sith earthbending, but could still be funny
@erlm595 kinda sounds like were just turning avatar into outlaw star with the caster gun
A metal bender would tear it apart
The optimal scenario is to Thanos snap Raava and Vaatu and spirit bending from the timeline completely
Then they would have to make Korra die really early
If the next avatar will be living in a sci-fi world, here's some ideas:
Fingerprints would probably be around.
@@joesunday199 A bloodbending bounty hunter sounds badass though.
Also, pending name for a firebending version of bloodbending.
@@joesunday199 But using sandbending to fake fingerprints. That could happen.
Personally I find the technological setting of Korra really boring, I loved the oriental theme of ATLA so I’d rather a pre Aang avatar
The way everything turned modern was a reason the show was hated a lot
Huh. I found it interesting actually, not being modern but still closer, but I guess that's just another thing between ATLA and LOK that's A difference and completely perspective and preference related
@@eglol yeah to each man his own
As both an Avatar fan and a shooting sports enthusiast I've long fantasied how bending would effect/be mixed with modern firearms usage.
With the gate to the spirit world they have an even greater advantage. Imagine our world with a near infinite powersource. That would be insane.

They experimented with spirit-powered machinery in the Legend of Korra. If the science was developed to manipulate spirit energy at will and artificially give people bending, you could theoretically turn non-benders into psuedo-avatars.
What happened with the new airbenders would then no longer be something accidental.
@@mediokay508 Hmm, that's a really good Idea actually. I don't think the other guy thought about that though lol
Honestly seeing a energy bending style would be cool like a person shooting energy from there body😩
When the next series comes out they need to go into their own direction while keeping the spirit/ basics of the original. The original is almost perfect and probably can’t be replicated, so they really need to just differentiate from it, even more so than Korra.
here is my take,
They did it with Korra and people didn't like it, now they want to do it again...

@@ol1163 i agree, no clue what this means, but i agree.

I really don't want to see the avatar world in a cyberpunk setting... The main draw is the fantasy feel of the worldbuilding, not sci-fi.
I can't agree more
Maybe they could have cyberpunk elements, or even one setting, but they could also dwelve into the more spiritual world too, maybe even mixing both and finding a happy solarpunk-esque medium in them.
I hate Korra because the world is modern and now they are making it worse.
Id love too se an avatar again in an „old“ unadvanced world
Also u can see those future like citis or cities that play in our timeline in ecery other anime, if avatar dies the same theyre taking away the thing that made avatar special
My thoughts exactly
Now... if lets say... the started using too much of the worlds spiritual energy things could go that way, i still think the genetic side of things still applies and could serve as buffer to not immediately go that way, but maybe a third factor, maybe a plague that affects benders or something like that.
why would bending become rare sounds dumb
Kills me that nickelodeon killed legend of gengi
Wait did this happen??? Did nick go C&D to them?!
They could be adapting it
Got em on some legal stuff but they didn't elaborate on it. All they mentioned was nick approached them with legal, they did the thing and that was all they could say other than it that legend of gengi was dead
Technically yes, but not due to legal reasons (but could have been legal if it kept going until it came close to the sequel series). The reason was because the group wanted to according to the quote I found wanted to leave room for the earth bending show
You don't know what you talking about bub
Rocket Launcher. Bazooka. Missile. Nuclear Bomb. With these four elements, I am the Avatar
Well no the traditional bending provided way more uses than the mma style, Katara’s water tentacles that let her fight multiple foes, or water pulling from plants and air, or Tophs earth run that let her cross miles in minutes or ability to completely rearrange the terrain and take on multiple opponents
the difference between Traditional bending and the new age MMA style is that traditional takes years to learn and master while the MMA style could be picked up and “mastered” within a year
I’m gonna say how i honestly feel is that Korra took the power out of the avatar state, with Aang the avatar state was never used unless something major happened while Korra would use it to win a race, against war ships the avatar state was able to decimate an entire fleet while Korra couldn’t fight off a single person one on one
the writers just clearly didn’t know how to make Korra work since she technically was a fully realized avatar at the end of season 1, how can you make someone who has godly power struggle? you have to weaken the godly power
if anything they could bring back the importance of the avatar in society by having this new generation witness an uncontrolled avatar state that causes devastation and finally realise the power that ended the hundred year war
Having us explore the past sounds more desirable.
i think movies would be better for the past avatars. unless they do one farrr in the past we know nothing about, that would make a great series. like that lady firelord avatar
well if you want that, you can always read the Kyoshi and Yangchen novels!!!
@zconsci no shows or movies would work just fine these avatars have full lives of story that can easily fit into a show I do not ever want to see anymore future avatar stuff Korra already was pushing it
I’d love to see some white lotus espionage
I just don’t see where else they could go after cyberpunk
space benders
@@voiden5463
Yeah!
Multiversal war
ngl I was really hoping for an avatar set in the 80s/90s/early2000s
Theres a REASON the bending forms had alot of motions, it was because those motions were NESSECARY to have the bending be effective, its what separated masters from novices. And LOK removed that.
Of course it did, martial arts developed and the precise MMA fighting style is more effective for close combat. They sacrificed raw power for precision
@@jayambi7695 The power was suppose to be FROM the precession. Doing the forms right was what was suppose to give them extra power instead of literally just brute forcing it to obtain more power.
yeah, i hope they change that in the next avatar series
They didn't "remove" anything. Show still had plenty of "traditional" bending. They just developped a new form of bending that takes inspiration from more modern martial arts, which was cool to see.
@@jonathan13co Doesn't matter if it was cool to see it made no sense. So yes they did remove bending being tied to the more traditional martial arts. hell you have a couple of characters literally start blood bending out of nowhere with their mind alone and not even doing any movements.
I personally want part the next avatar's storyline to be reconnecting with their past lives. Lots of spiritual journey stuff (which I think could be interesting since Earth is one of the less spiritual elements).
my personal opinion, i couldnt really get into the korra series bc the sheer amount of change that happened almost felt more like fan-fiction than actual lore to me. i really wanted to love it but a lot of what i loved ab atla was just shrugged off and kinda pushed me out of it. i really wanna love and get into the series again but im worried theyre losing sight of what made it so special
this. I couldn't get over how crazy everything changed very quickly. A few episodes in LOK and I couldn't watch anymore.
The amount of monumental change seen in the two series is actually one of the most realistic parts of the show but ppl like to think atla took place in ancient times so they cant make sense of it
I hate the steampunk aesthetic i liked the more old world so im not that exited for the new series tbh.
Plus i just really dig the ancient aesthetic and wanna see more of it
Same man. I want more of the aesthetic of avatar: the last airbender
wait until Avatar is in the far future and studies quantum physics. combining atoms of radioactive metals such as uranium and plutonium and crashing together to cause a chain reaction to create an atomic bomb explosion. it would end the chaos of the dystopian era
@@nicollaspernando8972 cant wait 😂
Zuko replicating moves that were specifically used against him is something I never even noticed on my first watch. This show is that damn good.
I totally understood Korras bending arc, her learning a more practical style! Was so legit!
it’s not more practical tho
Just think about the moves that she loses out on by not using more traditional bending, Toph could spin an entire arena to rearrange the battlefield, or use earth running to cross miles in minutes, or Katara using the water tentacles to face multiple attackers, or pulling water out of nearby sources like the air or plants, and air benders have significantly less attacking power than the other elements so it makes sense that they shouldn’t be focusing on just mma style fighting, evasion is crucial for them
Benders are getting weaker by using basic punches and kicks, because when you control elements there are much more varied uses and using a basic punch would put you at a disadvantage
@@boshlovely2002 yeah you’re right I did think of that, but it’s slower and not as efficient, it’s like comparing traditional martial arts to MMA which kinda mixes it together to make it more lethal
So exciting ! I'd love to watch a modern day avatar !!! ❤❤❤
an earth bending avatar in a society full of cybernetic aguments and metal will be interesting
That's not true in the Avatar world, so it doesn't make sense for them to fight the same as us or each other.
exactly
bending has so many applications that it makes no sense that the bending styles would just phase out, Katara’s water tentacles, steam production, or Toph shifting the entire arena or earth run are varied uses of water and earth that regular mma movements won’t produce
not only are they losing the core function of bending but they also become so limited in what they do
@@boshlovely2002 I do remember one thing I saw was someone attaching the perceived weakness of the Korra characters to their bending styles being commodified from being something rooted in a tradition, learned for self defense and self discipline, to something used as a tool for work.
I think they will find their own way as always. Korra left the world with the spirit gates open. That will change everything again
@@hackfleischking5162 I pray to the gods that we don't get another series focused on the spirit world.
@@Simon-is2xdthey absolutely ruined the spirits in Korra, they were representations of the environment around them that had questionable morals that didn’t align with being simply good or evil, and the atmosphere around one’s appearance was so hype

2:38 Master Kisu looks like the fire nation sword master white lotus guy
It would be fun if in the future after so many generations of mixing elements that things like sand bending, lightning bending, and bloodbending were more common than fire, water, and earth. Then the avatar uses the orginals and is seen as strange for not using sub bending types
It makes sense to do a cyberpunk style avatar especially since he's gonna be an earth bender. That means he can fight robots with metal bending and maybe create bone bending by finding the metal installed in future humans. Futuristic and bending seems like a deadly time to be alive
i hope they age up the material because I want to see what bending can really do.
He could have the power of magnetism making rail guns or a monopole
Tbh I think it would be weird to see the cyberpunk stuff in the avatar verse. Maybe it’s just my view but I think if they do that it might make the series lose it’s originality.
Y'all so obsessed with bone bending since that one fan series lol
So pull out an x men storyline?
In 1-st episode 3-rd season in ATLA Katara boiled the sea around the ship so that she could escape from her pursuers along with her allies.
I'd love to see a much grittier avatar, something like kyoshi's story, dark and brutal
I'd rather it not.
@joesunday199 why not?
@@inspector5122 Avatar is a fun, adventurous series that makes me feel like a kid again. Yet, still mature enough for me as an adult. I prefer that balance.
I always thought about benders in a modern or cyberpunk world. They stole my ideas from my dreams hahaha

I think a possible setting could be a technology driven non-bender revolution, a genozid on benders, colonization of the spirit world and enslavement of the the spirits and a very distopic world.
GET HYPED FOR SPIRITPUNK! Soulpunk?
I think humans could try conquering the spirit world, and that could expand on the colonialism themes of ATLA
@@Gadgetmcflyv2 Interesting
@@joesunday199This is basically Kryptonite and it sounds extremely stupid.
The royal family literally kept lightning bending as close of a secret as possible
It would be really cool if benders in the future leaned further and further into the sub categories. So much so that they begin to be unable to bend the original element. Focusing their fighting exclusively on something like lava bending to the point where it essentially becomes it's own "element". which would work well with the new subclass symbols.
Gonna rewatch Aang and Korra's stories when the next Avatar comes out
Also I wonder how they will link Korra into the new avatar since this means she lived for around 200 years if the next avatar would have been bored after her death.
Omg! People need to learn that lava bending is just melted earth and has nothing to do with fire

"the world bending is phenomenal"
-TheAvatarist
Something I've never seen talked about is the application of bloodbending with healing, id imagine it be more powerful or something interesting?
Even though it wouldn't be nice to see evolved bend styles, but i can also imagine that bending styles get lost in future. For example levitating. In Kora it already was kinda a legend and only be achieved through letting lose of all physically, or some sort of mentality, which in my opinion seems to be pretty hard to do for some people. To just sit in silence for longer that 10 minutes and thinking of nothing, what i imagine to be necessary for some techniques.
So yeah might be also an interesting idea :D
Bro why did I expect a “That’s just a theory” 😭🙏
Sounds like either a really bad spin‐off or a fanfic that has no business being as good as it is. I like the idea.
But thats probably just me
I meant no disrespect @@sevenequalsoneheart6710, I’ve just seen some patterns.
@@muncherofpizza oh no i wasn't offended by it. I took it as a compliment. Appologies for the confusion
I think it is a step in a wrong direction for the show TBH
@@uncannybook581 I agree
@@uncannybook581same....it would have been better instead of a show after Korra, do a show before the original...maybe some time after Avatar Wan so we could still have the original style of bending which is far more beautiful, awesome and unique.
I despise all these changes. Lighting bending went from something that only prodigies could do to pretty much everyone could do. Zoku couldn't even do it and he was an incredible fire bender. So dumb
Same, im worried the show will become to "anime" like, which isn't a bad thing, but doesn't work for the world of Avatar
1:46 "worldbending" that's some next level earthbending right there
they should make a special character that uses both guns and bending uniquely of both for example: "an air bender that uses old style evasive moves while using a air pistol to hit pressure points" but it's an idea for a cyberpunk-est style and development of bending 😇 ty for my ted talk
It would be interesting to invest a bit of the lore in this 3rd series towards seeing how oppressed non-benders could become. Just having these high-level techniques being the norm just means one thing, if you're born without bending, you're essentially screwed out of progressing in the world.
Having this coming avatar being born of a non-bending family that is from the Earth nation could help invest into it, especially if they are a late bloomer
mha but avatar
Honestly I hope Republic City won't become a total dystopia, or at least, not without a good explanation. Like, the situation in TLOK made sense after Aang as an avatar, because his goal was to unite the four nations in peace, but not particularly to deal with the inequalities between benders ans non-benders for example. So yes, there were a lot of tension around this question during Korra's time. I want the next generation world to make sense, just like the TLOK era made sense.
Given how poor the Legend of Korra was written in multiple facets I don't have faith in these new reinventions of the original world
The mistake of Avatar Korra was make her the Avatar in a world that doesn't need an Avatar.
Because if the world doesn't need another Avatar, there is no point in continuing the story of the Avatars.
Because the world won't need them, and that will just make them a variation of Korra's story.
She was very much needed I’m sorry vatu and rava are literally the balance of the spirts not to mention kurvira korra was defiantly needed
it would make a really fun plot like imagine a war between the benders who thought all this technological stuff is bad vs a highly geared up non-benders
