It is designed to prohibit the free flow of water from a ruptured diaphragm and reduces potential water waste and flooding damage. www.thetoolstore.ca/viewItem.asp?idProduct=17847

Thank you. I have a valve that is very tempermental with the bleed screw. If I back out the bleed screw the valve will work with the selenoid, but if it's backed out to far the bleed screw leaks.

How to use the bleed screw?

Video contained helpful maintenance hints. Thanks. Orbit is slow to react to problems. Have a valve that is leaking and still in warranty - contacted customer service - diagnosed as a bad diaphragm. Said they will send one out. I got it 9, yes, NINE months later....lol In the meantime I bought a new valve.

Good Video. Answered Question about Wiring. Also I’m Learning How Debris Really Creates Problems. Problems which Makes You Think It Is the Valve When It’s Not. There is a Lot More to Sprinklers than Meets the Eye. One Has To Go Through a Sound Process of Elimination.

so does it mater what end your supply line is hooked too? why did you not cover that in this video?

If I remove the inside guts / diaphragm etc, will the solenoid be permanently open then ?

the solionoid needs to be extended to stop the flow of water. So im confused why you say it needs to be retracted.

Nice explanation, thank you. If someone can advise: I have a valve leaking from nuts on pipes. Are there any washers between the valve and pipes? I do not want to open it without having parts handy

Sounds like you mean the threaded connections from valve to piping. Solution is tedious, but not hard: remove threaded connection (probably by cutting the PVC pipe), then clean both M&F threads, then re-apply teflon tape to seal threaded joint, screw fittings back together using two wrenches, finally reconnect the piping.
If you mean the leak is from the screws on top, then open the valve body, apply gasket sealer all around, screw down the valve body top, zig zag tightening will help you to avoid over tightening screws. Wait for gasket sealer to harden before using under pressure.

Good video, thx! ? 4 U My valve works, but buzzes loudly. I replace the solinoid with another and it buzzes the same. How can I make it more quiet or fix this? It's not normal, is it? It's quite loud. thx.

What I am asking is how / what can I do to disable the valve so that water always flows?

Turn the selenoid left half turn

So, does this valve restrict the flow of water? It doesn't seem to have a straight through path for water when the valve is open. I have 1" piping and my water volume is much less than my neighbor who also has 1" piping, but no electric valves. His sprinkler volume is much higher than mine.

The diaphragm is pressed down by the spring and water in the bonnet above the diaphragm. This closes the valve and no water flows from the inlet pipe to the outlet pipe. When the solenoid activates or the bleed screw is opened, water above the diaphragm is lost causing the diaphragm to push upward, which creates a direct channel between the inlet and outlet pipes.

My valve makes a lot of noise when I have the spring installed. When I take it out, the noise goes away. Only on this valve. Any ideas?

Be aware that replacement diaphragms for jar types currently being sold do not work on a 20 yr old valve. No idea where to find the correct one.

You did not actually explain how it works which is the title of this video....

Dave Coder there is a good explanation on a rainbird corp video entitled how irrigation valves work. Basically the solenoid releases the water pressure on the back side of the diaphragm allowing the line pressure to force the diaphragm open. When the solenoid valve is deactivated it seals the bleed port allowing the pressure to build up on the back side of the diaphragm shutting off the water.

He didn't explain how it works. How it works is NOT that same thing as how you work it. He showed how to clean it and put it together, and how to turn it on by opening the bleed valve, but he didn't explain HOW it works. How does that little 24 V solenoid open a big valve that holds back 50 psi? No explanation. Disappointed.

orbit customer service really really sucks. getting through on a phone call is impossible. they don't return text or reach out in any way. I've tried several times for weeks. they probably won't respond to this post. so frustrated with them.

They didn’t respond to your post b/c they don’t watch Utube videos at work.
