Tired of all the fighting in his country, legendary Israeli commando Zohan (Adam Sandler) fakes his own death and goes to New York, where he can fulfill his fondest dream: to become a hairstylist. The reason Zohan is so beloved is that it is fundamentally good natured. The film is full of good will towards Jews and Arabs. It of course comes from a Jewish American perspective and that does slant certain aspects of tone, but it takes subject matter that could be really mean spirited and executes it flawlessly. I think films like this do more to give people a sympathetic view of Palestinians, Arabs, Jews, etc. than many give credit.
It also begins with a bafflingly nuanced debate, which you don't expect from an Adam Sandler movie. "That's true! My ancestors never stepped foot here!"

He has them call his landline so they pay for the call, and if he thinks the discussion is important enough or if he needs privacy from his wives, he accepts the charges on his cell phone.
