I love watching any great player, new school or old school, but my favourite part of watching legends like Negreanu, Ivey, and Seidel (super underappreciated legend by the way) is watching them implement new school tricks and strategies. They'll always have that old school instinctive nature about them but they keep up with new school style as well.
I honestly like both styles, especially when they are put together on the same table, like here. I am Spanish and I have a soft spot for Adrian, but the old school always gives me that nostalgia for when I learned to play
Its amazing how Ivey takes his time to think about the hand. Mateos knows how to presure in river and this spot is so rough to Ivey. I think if they were playing this hand deepstack or in other torney situation Iveys may calls, becase his instint was saying "he could be bluffing, call"
I love watching these new school players and what they’re doing. Both new and old school players is definitely an option. This channel is next level content, Jon has been in my top five for over a decade. I want to see more coverage of Jonathan in tough spots and his thought process. You and Brad are great for giving back so much for free and letting us in. Much appreciated and keep up the stellar work 🫡🙏🏽🍀
Had to go to your videos to see if there is any video giving Ivey his Props..and surely there is. HIGH 5.😄 New sub! Woke up and saw DNegs with a Day 2 Video of Triton $12 Million in Bahamas but right above that it said Live Final Table...that was a spoiler haha... Foxen was like 6th and took home 2 Million...mind blowing.
I must concur - I'm an old school player and I love seeing the old school vs. new school players battle. I was at Cherokee lately, playing in a WSOP Circuit tournament and I remember messaging a couple of the guys I play poker with back home on the breaks, letting them know my chip stack sizes. During the first two breaks, I was at a table full of GTO players and was able to hold a nice chip stack up through the second break. I was telling them how easy it is to read these GTO players! Lol
I would defo have ripped 10-9 suited in Peters seat. I get why Little said "no mas" as Peters was UTG, but in my view, his chances of chipping up significantly would've been great (even though you wouldn't wanna be up against multiple players in an all-in scenario). In this case Peters would've got a double-up (since Ivey would've folded) which would have opened some new opportunities for Dave. The difference between 6 and 15 bigs is like night and day. He would almost certainly have been forced with an all-in decision in the very next hand and if he has like 7-4 or 8-3 off or some litter like that, what then?
It’s the FT of a 30k buyin.. not level 9 of a $400 local tournament. 9/10hh should be doing a lot of folding utg with 6bbs 9 handed. ICM changes decision making as well.
Insane 'read' ? It wasnt up to him to call/raise/fold. It was a check/bet situation and he was just fortunate ivey didnt call. There is a huge misconception out there that television and videos like this have propagated that these poker players are wizards who can look into peoples souls and tell what they have lmao. When really, theyre just making a mostly mathematical decision based on limited information. But nooooo they have most of the public worshipping them like theyre something so special. Ugghh this world
I like watching both old and new school. Each has its strengths. However, in my opinion the old school are better to watch for cash players. Having said that, I love when say, "suited connectors are not what they used to be." A lot of cash players haven't gotten the memo and still play them as aces regardless of position...kinda old school.
Is that Evan Jarvis in commentary? Sounds a lot like him if not! These super shallow stack spots are really fun and interesting. They are SO important, because it's often in FTs where payjumps are getting serious that you'll find yourself in these situations. I always cringe *hard* when I hear players say there is no poker to be played once you get below 12ish BBs. I do have a couple questions about this hand: (This for anyone who has an opinion to answer, not just JL, would love to hear any input from anyone) 1) How relevant do you think the fact that Peters is super short and about to be big blind is? Plus, wth Ivey being BB this hand, it means he has to just post the SB next hand then has a full orbit to find a hand to shove with. That would make it a way tougher call for Ivey from a $$EV perspective, BUT if you think Ivey is solely out here to win the tournament, do you think in a backwards way it would make Ivey more inclined to call? I say this because, with there being another super short stack, it incentivizes Matteos to bluff more here, which would mean from a chip EV point of view Ivey should call more, even though again from a $$EV point of view he should call less. Then again, if Matteos knows Ivey is just going for the win then you end up in this black hole of circular arguments, so maybe none of that is relevant. 2) How relevant is the 6 in Ivey's hand? With Matteos opening from the HJ, he absolutely never has 64, 96, or T6, and being sub 25bbs deep even 65s probably won't play. On the other hand Matteos could have bluffs like QTs, Q9s, AT, A9. And Matteos is very unlikely to show up with an 8 here, so really, it's a Jack or better, or a bluff. So, with all that being said, is Ivey thinking that 76 could be a better hand to hero call with than a hand as strong as Q8? If Ivey had an 8, would that be a hand strong enough to x/jam flop? If the answer to the latter is yes, then in a weird way, is 76 one of the best hands Ivey can even have here? Is 76 a better call than 97 or T7? 3) I want to go back to preflop. From my understanding, when the big blind is super short, they are incentivized to defend with a wider range. So, with Ivey starting the hand on ~8bb, would it have been a good move for Matteos to opt to open to, say, 2.5bb (625k) instead of 2bb (500k)? I know in normal situations when the BB is super short you want to open slightly larger than normal to decentivize the big blind from defending, but there are some other factors in play here. For one, it's the FT, surely ICM plays a factor. Two, the CO has roughly the same stack as Matteos, and the SB has him covered. Three, AQ is a very good hand, perhaps he doesn't mind getting called. There's always a million things to consider in every hand this is just the tip of the iceberg. Had Matteos opened to 625k would Ivey have still defended? How big would the open raise have had to be for Ivey to fold the 76o from the big off of 8bb? - PS. My fish self would be kicking myself in DP's shoes, folding the eventual nuts 😂always be results oriented people
How can you call folding the 10 9 suited nitty....only to say 5 seconds later that shoving it would have been a mistake ? @1:30 ? So shoving is a mistake but folding is nitty ? What do you want the 6.5x BB stack to do ? Poker has gotten to the point that you can't even win money playing the game anymore, you have to tell and teach OTHERS how to play and profit and win money, while not doing it yourself. And yes I know Jon has won a good chunk of tourneys. However, he considers himself retired from poker and mainly teaches.
He's saying "perhaps a nitty fold" in an inquisitive way, almost like asking, "do you think this is a nitty fold?" He's calling out the fact that many people would consider this a nitty fold, but then goes on to explain why it isn't.
I prefer the old school players but there's much more of them on youtube so more new school would be nice. I reckon cover both, like in this hand, but with emphasis on new school.
Mateos is the GOAT said by an old school player who have covered poker since Isildur, Ivey, Gus, Hellmuth etc etc! IMOP some of the EPT streams are the absolutely best to watch and learn from!!
Ran this hand through Peak, and it was in library. For most part, play followed GTO solution. Mateos’ R bet was a pure bluff, but he had a ton of bluffing hands. Phil’s fold of 7s6d was 83% for that bet size, 73% for smaller size. Not including any ICM nuances, it was a good fold.
Holy over-used and stale catch-phrases, Batman. "Adrian DEFINITELY might turn this hand into a bluff" Dude has no made hand, just Ace high. Surely he has no hope of getting called by worse, so its NOT a value bet. This bet literally IS a bluff. Also, do the producers @ Triton not know about "effective stacks"? Mateos bets 2M into 1.875M, but Ivey only has 1.5M, so the pot is now 3.375M, not 3.875M, cuz thats all that Ivey can win.
What we should be talking about is Ivey putting himself in a horrible position. Patrick was thinking of playing his suited connectors but thought better. Is Ivey the best player in 2024 if not name your favorite player
how was this an insane read? seems really standard. And what did Little add to this clip exactly? This is like the lowest effort content I've ever seen in my life.
Lame title. Ivy was pretty short stacked. If he had anything solid, he would’ve pushed. For the record, I’m miles behind the skill of any of you commentators, but this title was reaching, at best.
I just like aggressive poker. But I do have an "old school" concept that I'd enjoy being analyzed from a more recent perspective. David Sklansky and the "fundamental theorem of poker." To paraphrase, If you somehow "knew" what cards your opponent had and with that knowledge Would have played your hand differently than you did, Then you have made a "mistake" or several. Not necessarily a "bad play", but a mistake Like you check back the legit best hand on button/river when your opponent has a "range advantage" (new school) but you missed value because your opponent would have called beaten Or folded and basically gained almost no real info from you in this hand (old school)[i personally feel like ANY pot i can win without a showdown is a net + even if I know a min bet won't get called or raised]
Lol how is ivey not gonna fod "any pair" on the turn... Man... Also dpeters not openshoving vs the other short stack (less likely to get called) of 6bb seems pretth bad to me. And ont he river... How you say AQ beats all the busted draws lol, almost all the draws are marginal hands now, and when ivey has the random 56 probably bluffs it, so AQ almost never beats anything on the river dude. Man i loved your content, but this analysis are just getting lazy and I feel your game is not evolving, but well... Not that you really need to! Im unsubscribing, thanks for everything
Who is your favorite old school poker player and also your favorite new school poker player? 🔥
Stu Ungar. Great card player and his story should teach a lot of poker players about the do’s and don’ts of being a professional player.
New school. Alot more logic and reasoning involved. It's alot more interesting
Erik Seidel. Still relevant today
Would love to see more of Justin! Thanks for your videos ❤️
Old school 🏫 🎉❤😊
I like watching a mix of old school and new school players. Thanks for the great content!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love watching any great player, new school or old school, but my favourite part of watching legends like Negreanu, Ivey, and Seidel (super underappreciated legend by the way) is watching them implement new school tricks and strategies. They'll always have that old school instinctive nature about them but they keep up with new school style as well.
Negreanu is so fun to watch because he revamped his game and is still crushing.
No idea what your mind understands by old school or new school
I enjoy watching the OG's play against the young bucks as well
For sure!
Old school vs new school is highly entertaining.
I agree.
I honestly like both styles, especially when they are put together on the same table, like here. I am Spanish and I have a soft spot for Adrian, but the old school always gives me that nostalgia for when I learned to play
Adrian é il genio del poker attuale. Un salutone dall' 💚💚🤍🤍❤❤
Its amazing how Ivey takes his time to think about the hand. Mateos knows how to presure in river and this spot is so rough to Ivey. I think if they were playing this hand deepstack or in other torney situation Iveys may calls, becase his instint was saying "he could be bluffing, call"
Wel the title give it away! We knew Ivey would fold there!
Old school ..
I love watching these new school players and what they’re doing. Both new and old school players is definitely an option. Thanks so much for the kind words, really appreciate it!
at the end of the video does that dealer grab from the bottom of the deck on the second card she dealt?
Definitely 💯 more content about adrian mateos please

So you ran good for like 2 hours and concluded GTO players are easy to read? lol
The whole point of GTO poker is to be perfectly balanced (unreadable), so either they weren't very good or you have bad reads lol.
I enjoy watching all great poker players.
I learn from all of them.
Imagine if Ivey calls there..
Imagine if Peters had shoved preflop with only 6 big blinds behind
Imagine if I was Superman and your Ma Lois Lane
imagine if my grandmother had wheels...
@ imagine not being an asshole
@@wheelerking8380 imagine wasting time being a jerk on YT’s comment section with a stranger
I like both because I can learn from both styles to be better and know when to switch to which one
May i ask why you say suited connectors arent what they used to be ? What does that mean
I don't understand folding 10 9 suited in this situation 😂😂
What's the bigger difference between an old school and a new school player strategies and everything? Honest question.
Defend more blinds and better bigger
always have and will always love watching the old school players like ivey, kid poker, and cant forget about mr doyle brunson!!!
Want to see a heads up tournament with old vs new tbh
I would defo have ripped 10-9 suited in Peters seat.

I definitely like the mixture. Especially in the same hand like this one.
Favorites are are Sammy Farha and Alan Keating wooooooooo
I like Peters and Patriks nit fold hands pre lol…gives me lots of hope! 😎✌️♠️🍀
Woulda caught a straight on the river. Never fold 10 9 suited when you have 6bbs!!!!
It’s the FT of a 30k buyin.. not level 9 of a $400 local tournament. 9/10hh should be doing a lot of folding utg with 6bbs 9 handed. ICM changes decision making as well.
@michaelmarsico9740 it's actually 52% all-in, bud. At average chip stack 9/10hh UTG is actually a Nit limp.
Super vidéo, des belles images et du gros stress.
I'm glad you liked it!
Insane 'read' ? It wasnt up to him to call/raise/fold. It was a check/bet situation and he was just fortunate ivey didnt call.

Ivey defending 67o with only 2m behind... there's the problem imho. Low unsuited connectors aren't what they used to be by final.
When does the insane read occur?
I love watching any great player!
I can narrow ivey range on the river: he has two cards that are not on the board and not in my hand. That said he can have 1980 combos.
The new generations better to watch
Where was the insane read by adrian? He was big chip stack and just bluffed a small stack by putting them all in
Bcs f ivey did not lead on the river, he is capped to under pair(second third etcr). T9 jam on the flop propably.
New school vs old school is the most interesting, you can improve the most here
one of the reasons the solver recommends betting at least 1/3, 3 checks in a row screams bluff me
Still waiting for the insane read lol hand is pretty standard 😂gg
Mix and match of old and new
Is that Evan Jarvis in commentary? Sounds a lot like him if not!

You should cover some Linus love hands!
I love watching both
Great video
Please, the game is NLH 8-handed, and now we have 9/185 players. How? Should be 8 players no?
I prefer watching the old school guys.
Who's your favorite?
Mateos hates laying down against short stacks when he doesnt hit anything, he bluffs so often in that spot
Peters binks the nuts on the river if he ships it pre

109s made the nuts 😅😅
Why play 67 if you’re not going to play it … the jam is a tell also .. if it was £100 buy in it’s a call £30k makes it tuff
why is it insane? he had bunch of hands to make fold on the river. Imagine loosing here to 7x 8x
Old school vs new school
“Suited connectors aren’t what they used to be”, why not? What changed?
I prefer watching new school players, used to really like watching Siedel, Johnny Chan but most of all I like watching them both in events like Triton
All the money is at the top. You’re goal should always be to win the tournament
both
Ivey knew … he is the goat 🐐 but smart player leans to a fold with money that close knowing he can likely make up in later hands
Why do commentators keep talking about “blockers”?
its not an insane read.... it’s obvious Ivey will not bet with his last chips
Old school players were characters. New school players are just robots with stupid watches. Tony G for life yo.
Mike postle would have made that call
Love the old school players
Old school!!
Why is antonius folding? Doesn’t he have implied odds?
Terms you don't understand =/
@ ok poker master 😉
@colewollerman4265 implied odds...in a tournament...with a short stack...just think before talking
