HELLO and welcome to first EVER episode of "They Should Make..."! I find myself saying more and more, "they should make this" or "they should make that!"...so I decided to make a show about it. It's a series where I talk about things gaming companies, toy companies, movie studios, food chains...SHOULD MAKE! In today's episode I discuss how Nintendo should make DONKEY KONG COUNTRY MAKER! A "sequel" to Super Mario Maker, and why this experience as a gamer and game designer could be amazing! I also touch on how Nintendo could essentially make an entire "Maker" game series too...and of course much much MORE!

A Hyrule dungeon desinger would be great. Just give it the typical birds eye view look of the classic games. Each map you make links to another for a full dungeon . Mabyb oing as fsr as to link your dungeons' towns' forests and such into a small game.
DKC Maker would be great. And this got me thinking... What if there was some kind of combination of NES Remix and Mario Maker? Like, some kind of level design tool kit that had tons of stuff from various NES games (or at least platformers) and you could mix and match enemies and objects from multiple games or even build your own challenges like NES Remix has.
That is an absolutely genius idea!!
It would require more room in the data storage or something but a reskin for parts used in diferent games like the master sward as a banana for DK. And enimies like piranha plants become deku plants and such. That would be a good way to build games withought overcrowding new pieces.
Basicley a reskin tool for charecters and Items alone would be good. Sort of like the diferent game desings in Mario maker like the clasic' smw3' and smwii u and such. Enimies and items could change slightley but it wouldn't need too much change just reskin. Along with the master sword in mm2 we could get a bana for DK. Or a ring for sonic. Bowser would become K-rool or eggman and coins would become bananas or rings. Just the art swap option alone would be cool. Kinda like taking the mistery mushroom option furthur.
The themes: Country 1,2,3, Returns and Tropical Freeze
I think it would be split between 1/2/3 and returns/tropical freeze, each set have pretty consistent graphics and gameplay being more incremental changes than an overhaul, if you hacked DKC1 to have Dixie and Kiddy, it would neither look nor feel out of place.
Honestly I would be on board with this, except just think about the influx of cancerous barrel blast levels and stinger-spam levels

Maker games will have trolls and kids making what they think are cool but insane levells. The world just has these kinde of people and we gotta live with them.
If we had a Zelda maker kids would spam the monsters like octos and beam throwing wizards. In a metroid game they would spam space pirates and uther projectile monsters. Why do some peopke think this enimie spaming makes a good game? The game maker program is creative but some people who just don't know what a creative fun levell should be just try too heard at something they don't seam to understand as much as they think.
They first need to make Mario Maker better, because lots of things are missing there, but then they can think about a Donkey Kong Maker, or a Kirby Maker, Zelda Maker would be very cool, but only if you can make Text Boxes and an own story, that would be cool, but every of these "Makers" needs every game of the series, if there will be a Donkey Kong Maker, I want EVERY Donkey Kong to play there, like in Super Mario Maker, that would be SO COOL! :)
Yes please! DKC1, 2, 3, Returns and TF style! With all the items and assets and dk, Diddy Dixie and kiddy could be playable!
Personally, I'd love to see a Yoshi's Island Maker.

Hey! Just wanted to say that I love the "They Should Make" idea! It got me to think about something I wouldn't have ever thought about, and that's cool.
Now should they make a DK Country Maker, I don't know. Maybe. I'm not sure if I can really see it. But if they do, I feel like they should add a bunch of new quirky ideas! Like new animal partners that would complement various types of level designs. Maybe like a Bat! That can walk on the Ceiling! Or something. Idk. wutever.
A series that I would really want the "Maker" idea slapped on to it is Zelda! It would be so cool to have people make their own miniature TLoZ game!

If a DKC Maker game ever gets made, My idea for a level would be a DKC2-based level called "The Lone Zinger", where you play as Rambi and bounce across a red zinger across a really long spike pit.

Or even remaking classic tracks in newer graphics or newer tracks with older graphics!
I am a huge fan of games with level creators built in, which I love when they have this.

They also should make a real Donkey Kong Country 4 in the original, beautiful art style. Returns and Tropical Freeze were ok, but not near the awesomeness of the original trilogy.

Honestly, at the very least it would be cool to see that as involved DLC for a new Mario Maker title. They could do something like a Donkey Kong Country Maker Pack, a Metroid Maker Pack, and a Retro NES Maker Pack and sell them for $20-30 a piece. Plus it would also be pretty interesting to let a greater community of gamers test out the levels even if they don't have the DLC.
DLC would be great...I can see them doing this with less complicated series like Yoshi or Kirby

I'd like to see a Super Mario Maker 2, but one that has multiple playable characters from the Mario universe. Luigi, Peach and Toad with their SMB2 abilities, a Yoshi's Island Yoshi, the Kong trio with their DKC playstyles, Wario with his Wario Land abilities... and of course this leads to enemies and bosses from those games being incorporated. Unfortunately this would mean ditching the theme formula but in the end I think this expansion in playstyles, stage hazards, bosses, songs and locations would be worth the sacrifice. Multiplayer is also a must have for the sequel, though likely only two player will be manageable.
Of course, Kirby and Metroid both have great potential here as well, but I thought that a pure Mario title would be far more realistic while also still improving on the original.
I know just how to make amiibo in Mario Kart Maker work: it changes who you play as.
they shouldn't limit themselves to encouraging would-be level designers. they ought to include a 'creature designer' with some 'design your own AI system' & the ability to import 2d / 3d models and rigs

I was just thinking bout that the other day!!! I had my DKC II & III strategy books layin around and was thinking if they decide to make a DKC maker! I wouldn't wanna see the newest donkey Kongs cuz I'm not familiar with the newest ones... only DKC I, II & III. All 3 are my childhood.... We will see tho.. if they do decide to make a DKC maker, I might just have to get the Nintendo console it come on. IT'S THAT SERIOUS

Although this isn't a Nintendo property, Sega should make a "Sonic Adventure" maker that allows you to make your own 3D levels for "Sonic Adventure" or 2D levels for those who like the Sega Genesis classics. I also think Nintendo should make a sequel to "Super Mario Maker", something like "Super Mario 3D Maker" or "Super Mario Maker 2.0" or something like that, where making your own levels would work like "Disney Infinity", but without putting figures on a portal, though it is Amiibo supported.
Probably their next mario games won't be that popular idk... but if you release a "maker" the next games of the series will probably be less sold as they can create their own levels in "maker".
I used to draw out dkc levels on notebook paper all the time as a little kid too. My mom found them and made a scrap book of them for me. I’m 23 now and I’m sure it’s hidden away somewhere lol. I’ve had a little bit of fun using fan made DK level editors, but the level making process in those current programs is so arduous

Zelda maker, make your own dungeons fully and plus maybe cool custom making dungeons, not like a link to the past with only being able to use preset rooms

I really love your idea. I have been thinking exactly the same thing. One day, I really wanna see Donkey Kong maker and Kirby maker, I would definitely play them.
Zelda is one if not my favorite franchise game and a game maker for that would be great. Zelda oneley tried the sidescroller game in zelda 2. It didn't work that well but the zelda options for the mystery mushroom and master sward makes Link look good in a side scroller. Just a reskin option in mario maker for uther franchises would be good for charecters and items.

It would be kinda tricky to create metroid maker cause metroid is open world unlike mario levells. It would require an option for linking courses or basicley rooms for open world based games like metroid or zelda. Creating one large map by linking severall smaller ones.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea, but some of those sound really complicated. Mario Maker's design was extremely simple and easy to use. Metroid Maker seems easy in the construction aspect, but not with building big explorable worlds necessarily, but it's still one of the more plausible ones I kind of see. Zelda Maker I do see possible as well, but again the issue would be making big top down worlds to explore. It just isn't as simple as Mario Maker, and I don't think as many people would like it.
I would LOVE to see DKCMaker, but its main issue is its levels. It's not the same kind of placing blocks to make levels that Mario Maker is but rather landmasses and structures to navigate through. I don't see any easy way to pull that off, especially on the Switch. I feel like Mario Maker would already be a bit weird on the Switch because the definitive style of gameplay would have to be handheld mode. Add in all of these new difficulties with other franchises like Donkey Kong and I don't see it happening.
Of course that doesn't at all mean I don't want to see it. I would buy it in a heartbeat. I just see it and most other Maker spinoffs unlikely, especially on the Switch, except for MAYBE Zelda. I would also say most of the games would probably be cheaper games, maybe $10-$30 as they don't have great amounts of themes like Mario does.

This would be truly AWESOME I also have fond memories of DKC and its a shame I don't have a wii u so on Mario make (I have the new 3ds xl) I cant use my amiibo to make a DK costume which is kinda sad but still better than nothing. I have a blast each time a make a Dk cource on the game and could only imagine the joy of making a Donkey Kong cource with REAL Donkey Kong characters. if they make this game I hope it comes out on 3ds. Do you think Nintendo has sort of "forgotten" DK I mean everything is Mario Mario Mario (yes I love Mario too but we are talking bout DK)?
I think a sonic maker would be awesome, BUT at the same time.. It may be out of reach.. It'd be too complicated I think. Speed and the physics of it all, the sloping hills, etc.. But I still think if they could make it easily accessible and easy to use, it could be pretty awesome.
Or donkey kong country maker should just be a dlc to super Mario maker.

Instead of speculating, why don't we try to get the idea into the right people's hands? Lets be real, this needs to happen. I think that they should make another super mario adventures where it's entered around more Nintendo characters like Mario and Luigi can meet DK then fight link and have him join them and find Kirby and samosa and they could fight all the villains like king k Rool, ganon,bowser and king dee dee I think that will be really cool but sadly it will never happen. =(

Spirited Spy most of the staff who worked on dk no longer works for rare. They are now with Playtonic games (the company that made yooka laylee). So this isn’t impossible. Would just be complicated bc it would be a joint effort between Nintendo Playtonic and retro

Mario maker has mode options for classic smw3 and Wii u for example so for dk we could get diferent versions of nintendo console games like snes and gamecube. Metroid maker and zelda maker would be cool. Actually just relese Nintendo game maker with diferent franchise optoins or even mix them up with DK. In mario world or Link taking on metroud alians.

Well if you dig deep and I mean really dig deep; you'll find that donkey kong is an ape who's fighting against mario who wants to cage him and his nephew (dk jr) in a cage for entertainment like the circus. That's the backstory but...
That Donkey kong isn't the country one. The donkey kong from the originals is cranky (as we all know) so obscure backstory aside, can we even have a donkey kong country maker? I mean it was made by Rare; who was bought by microsoft and now broke away to make a new company for Yooka Laylee.
It would be very complicated to make it, since you have 3 companies to deal with.
Well, YES...that is the backstory. You are right...the whole "Cranky" character and ties to the original game was LATER created. But the "idea" or "concept" of Donkey Kong remains.
As for rights for the series...It could be up in the air or not. We did recently get two sequels to the DKC series. And Nintendo is still the owner of the IP. But who knows!

That's a good point, I forgot about the two most recent games. To be honest I really, really, REALLY want a donkey kong country maker; it was the game that introduced me to the snes funny enough.
Actually microsoft should give rare to nintendo, goodness knows they'd do a better job than what's being done now. I got nothing against them but all they've done is re-released the games and banjo kazooie;s.. *cough*
I really hope they can do a maker game though. I'd love the styles of gameboy, snes and wii to all work similar to mario maker.
DKC was my gateway into gaming...and Rare is dismantled. The people and minds behind DKC and the games are the 90s have moved on. Nintendo should just team with Playtonic!!
