  • This Darling Charming doll bed remake was a true labor of love, taking me 3 days to make! I thought the old Darling Charming bed was a tad too plain, as UA-camr Lucy Punter pointed out to me. But I didn't want to start from scratch, so I took the old bed apart and preserved the headboard, the bed itself, and the crown from the footboard.
To make the headboard for Darling Charming's new bed, I added a wooden heart cutout that I painted baby blue. I also added some bling, a pair of wings, and a crown to make it reminiscent of the Ever After High rebel emblem (I know they're not Royals and Rebels anymore, but Darling started out as a rebel, and I wanted to keep it that way).
To make the footboard for Darling Charming's remade bed, I took a wooden plaque in the shape of a shield and painted it baby blue, pink, and silver. I added the crown from her old footboard, as well as a pair of crossed swords underneath. Finding the pair of swords is a hilarious story in itself. I looked everywhere for a doll-sized sword - on Etsy, on eBay, on Amazon, and finally in ToysRUs last night. There is not a lot of variety, and the swords are hard to find. So I ended up just buying two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and taking their swords for the sake of my Darling Charming doll and her bed remake. Unfortunately, the Ninja Turtles don't wield medieval-looking swords, only swords that look like wakizashi or ninja-to. But, they will have to do. To finish it off, I hot-glued on a silver paper rose.
To make Darling Charming's new bed, I grabbed her old one and added another styrofoam block with the same fabric as her previous blanket and glued it to the bottom of her old bed. Next, I added some pink lace trim and a silver ribbon, and was done with that.
To make Darling Charming a new blanket, I wanted to create something that was suggestive of her dress and her armor, but make it a blend of feminine and knightly at the same time. So I ended up choosing a base fabric of silver, trimmed it, and then added various frilly laces and trims at angles. I added some trims that also remind me of chainmail armor to the top margin, and then finally created a cross out of some awesome looking silver trim that looks like interlocking rings. Kind of like a Knight Templar! Then I finished off the blanket with a pink gem and another silver paper rose.
To make her pillow, I chose the same fabrics, but added a bling monogram "D", some silver trim, some blue lace trim, and created a pillow that practically screams Darling Charming.
The rest is all just putting everything together. I chose thicker wooden dowel rods this time - about .25" in diameter. I also bought finial caps and hot-glued the dowel rods in the finial caps. The rods in her canopy are actually from a pack called "Artistic Moldings," and I chose a pair that had a shield design (after all, this IS a Darling Charming doll bed).
After hot-gluing on the footboard, the dowel rods, the headboard, and the canopy rods, the only thing left to do was make curtains. For those, I chose another blue lace and hot-glued it directly to the artistic molding (the canopy rods). I used the interlocking silver rings and more silver paper roses to hold the curtains back, and voila! It's a brand-new Darling Charming bed!
I'd love to know what you guys think of the new Darling Charming bed versus the old one. And if you've made a Darling Charming doll bed yourself, I'd love to see it! Please send me pictures at everafterfanatic@gmail.com. Enjoy!
