This thing is really cool, I’d just wish it was at least a 1.5x squeeze - maybe the version 2 will allow for that because this seems like a fun thing to use for both stills and video.
I think it's a huuuuge oversight not being geared. Would have ended up in so many bags, wireless foucs bags etc. Silly geese. Looks really lovely and the best review of this item x
lol
💯 major fail
Yeah massively! I don’t know what Moment was thinking with such an incredible oversight. It left it completely off my consideration list for that reason alone.
Im obsessed with anamorphic I can't wait to get my hands on one of these.
Let's see more of that Sirui + Moment footage! :D
I haven't used the moment but have been playing quite a bit with my SLRMagic 1.33x Anamorphot. I think my main issue is for 90% of what you're doing the 1.33x squeeze just isn't enough to justify the quirks of dual focus, lack of sharpness etc. You're better off stepping back a few steps for the FOV as the look isn't THAT different. But it can achieve a really cool look if you work the shot quite a bit. For me this makes it a great choice for narrative filmmaking but not as good a choice for general photography. Basically it's a lot of extra nonsense in order to get just a mild squeeze (and therefore a mild anamorphic look.). I think at the price point for this adapter I'd really be wanting a higher squeeze factor. My SLRmagic used in perfect condition was less than a third the price and while I have no doubt its an inferior product it is also smaller and lighter but I am questioning the look even at THAT price point.
Something I had fun with on my M43rds cameras is flipping the adapter sideways and effectively creating a micro 4/4ths camera with effectively a nearly square sensor.
But the main issue with 1.33x is you have to shoot 16:9 to get anything close to that "widescreen" anamorphic look when you desqueeze. But the whole reason I am shooting anamorphic is to fit MORE stuff into my scene while being closer to my subject or on longer focal lengths. And for most cameras that 16:9 aspect ratio means cropping the sensor and therefore getting LESS stuff in your frame. So it rapidly becomes not worth all the handling difficulty. If you have a greater squeeze factor that lets your 3:2 or 4:3 sensor get to "widescreen" you're amplifying the look even further than the squeeze factor implies. With 1.33x on a 3:2 frame you get just short of 2:1, a tiny bit wider than 16:9
Hello! What is the widest lens you have used your anamorphic adapter on mft cameras?
@@rasmushasu4928 Works on the 20mm I believe.
By far the best footage I’ve seen from the Moment. Well done
Thanks! I’ve been crazy curious about it and haven’t seen nearly enough samples, so I figured I’d give it a test
This makes any lens perfect for radio. 👍
The Lens is so cool, you have to keep your jacket on 😁
:)
I'm starting to think that all the UA-camrs who review photo and video material don't have heating in their homes, otherwise I can't explain the wool hat on all of them.
Just purchased. Thanks for the vid. Beautiful imagery.
I'd love to see it combined with a tilt/shift and used on some architectural photography
I’m surprised this looks softer than the older SLR magic Anamorphic front adapter that works the same way. I would think that it being considerably newer that they would’ve figured out how to improved the effect.
It’s actually very sharp on lenses that are already sharp and when used as instructed
@@benjhaisch Good to know. Thanks for the feedback. Hard to know if UA-cam is displaying full resolution sometimes, especially watching on a phone.
Why does everyone ignore that you have to set it at 2.8???
I was watching this earlier, then UA-cam informed me it was no longer available. Interested to see how this performs compared to other adapters!
Haha yeah, had to correct a mistake in the earlier version :)
@@benjhaisch Definitely would be interested in more about the adapter on the GFX, even if for photo use.
@@izzieb YES
can you show more of sirui 50mm 1.33x with moment adapter
If this was a 1.5x squeeze, would be perfect. 1.33x, not so much for my usage. Also, it's too expensive for what it is and the quality of the glass itself, way too expensive. Thanks for the video.. very interesting footage.
You should check out the 1.5x Blazar Adapter from Great Joy, it's smaller, sharper and cheaper with a wider stretch
Super cool vid you made
Wow! This is great! Should be cool to pair it with the M mount lenses and try to shoot some film, de-squeeze it in post and see the results to get some panoramic images 🤓 Wich is the minimum filter thread that you can adapt this?
Planning on it! 67mm is the base, so you’d need step up rings on the M-lens. I’m going to have to find a way to rig it up properly. It’ll be a Frankenstein, but should work :)
All these video samples look too soft for me. Do you have any lenses for the FX3 that can be used with this adapter that are super sharp? And possibly with a deeper field of view (maybe f4-5).
Can you test the Moment 1.33x anamorphic adapter on a Sony 70-200mm f2.8 ii GM taking lens?
I don’t have the 70-200/2.8GM II sorry
would rangefinder focusing be possible using this adapter on some M mount glass?
Does Trackink Autofocus work?
Damn, that's a lot of toneh...
i just wonder why there are no focus gears on it ... i mean it is for film making, you will need them ... and it is not on there ... strange imo other than that it is a cool adapter
I’m not saying you could… but yup
You could
😉
:) 1.33x :))) 2.0
This lens seem incredibly soft even with the sharper Sony 35mm 1.4, hard pass. Too soft even for anamorphic
Not sponsored? They literally paid you with a lens. Anyway, nice review
Sure, I think the sponsored bit often includes many more stipulations. They sent it over without any agreements in place, assuming that I’d probably post about it, but maybe I wouldn’t. They also had no input on the video and no money exchanged hands.
no autofocus no buy
