All this time later this still feels like the best version of any papyrus genocide AU period. He's much more cautious because of what you've already done, incredibly powerful and hard to dodge, still trying to get through to you to the very end, and he's STILL holding back despite how hard he looks now.
Refreshing to see a genocide Papyrus battle where he isn't some out of character edgy murderkilldeath force of vengeance. Don't get me wrong, I find that concept very entertaining, but this is by far the most realistic interpretation of the character and I appreciate that.
@@Firedemon72 No he ain't. Papyrus is a cinnamon roll who knows everyone can be a good person if they just try and even on the geno run he would do something like what's in the video, though something closer to Sans' difficulty level than what's in the vid, 'cause he'd still know you have more HP than before, so he'd know you can take stronger hits.
This is probably the best Genocide Papyrus, since all the other ones just show Papyrus not believing in you, but instead this one has the more Papyrus-like, innocent and pure, and believing style.
+Meric - The - Gamer One more thing, I like how you used "Megalo Strike Back" instead of the overused "Disbelief/Interstellar Retribution" as the theme.
This is so excellent for a number of reasons. The animations are well done and the attack patterns are well thought out. But overall the best thing is how true this is to Papyrus' canon characterization. The "Papyrus no longer believes in you" stuff that is the more popular is cool and all, but this is really more likely what Papyrus would do. Undyne even says it herself; Papyrus is incredibly strong, but is far too loving to ever actually hurt anyone. This is that in a nutshell. He starts to showcase his real power, but still pulls back. He doesn't want to hurt anyone. It's so sad and beautiful. Nice work.
+Riley Snow Yeah, and from a game play standpoint this could still work. Sans hates you the player and wants you to quit the game out of frustration where as Papyrus is trying to reach out to the human and plead for them to stop. The sad thing is Papyrus doesn't know about the players existence like Sans does. Would be nice if he grew to realize that in the fight.
+The Bookieman That... is a really good point. I agree that the concept of "disbelief Papyrus', while pretty much the most terrifyingly badass AU scenario in existence, isn't necessarily the best way to handle this kind of battle. The Bad Time is already a thing- Sans's thing. We've seen that side of the coin. But fighting against someone like Frisk's character in the Pacifist run? That's a cool thought indeed, especially is, like you said, fourth-wall breaking elements come into play. Omnipotent power, bottomless determination, and yet they refuse to kill. I don't claim to know how you'd design a battle where Papyrus only ACTs at you- after all, how does one change the mind of a being as determined as Frisk?- but considering this game is already known to break the fifth wall, I wouldn't put _anything_ past it.
+Andrew Cunningham It would pretty much take you on the ultimate guilt trip. Papyrus would still dodge but with every ACT he drops another guilt bomb on you. He starts talking about his friends, his life in Snowdin, Sans and they're relationship, his dreams, his hopes. While Sans is trying to overpower you into quitting Papyrus simply makes one last ditch effort to plead with you to stop, to just fucking stop. Every turn you would be able to spare him, no matter how many times you try to attack him he would still never lift a finger to hurt you.
The Bookieman My thoughts to the letter... but there would still have to be a way to kill him. As powerful as he is, the fight would be meaningless if it was a forgone conclusion. If the game, using all it's powers of emotional manipulation, can't convince the player to gave up, then that's their choice
Andrew Cunningham Oh absolutely. It would probably be a similar scenario to this honestly. With Papyrus just breaking down and saying something like "Ok then. If you really are the demon you claim to be, do it. Strike me down." And he would still totally try to spare you there too. Again hammering home that this is no accident. Your being a bastard and there is no justifying it.

Papyrus and Undyne were both the worst points of genocide runs in my opinion. Repeating the line 'one last chance' at the start of each round really cements this for me, because it's 100% a Papyrus thing to just keep giving you another chance every single time.
*My blue and yellow eyes glow* _Wrong, son... We are not going to give them ANYTHING. We should give ourself something instead, for Papyrus. We are not going to give them a "bad time." We are going to give ourselves a really... _*_really_*_ fun time._
* Papyrus is giving you one last chance... * PAPYRUS 8 ATK 2 DEF * He still believes in you. * Papyrus does not want to harm you. * Papyrus is overcome with grief. * He barely seems to know you're there. * All he does is sob.
+TheGoldenCookie with a sharp knife but if you don't have the dagger on (worn out dagger, toy knife) then you could not possibly cut papyrus with a stick
That was awesome, epic, almost perfect. The attacks are really well made in terms of difficulty to dodge them and originality of patterns. The only con is that is not perfectly written, and there are typos here and there. Yet, I think it could be improved with some more attacks, of a... different nature. You know what always surprised me about Papyrus? He has incredible control over his magic. Think about the Toriel fight. If you have low hp, she will avoid you on purpose, and if you somehow manage to get killed in her fight, she will show a face of shock and regret. But Papyrus? He is so powerful, that if he defeats you, he lets you live with 1 hp in order to capture you. He is the only one in the whole underground with that power. Hurting others is easy. Distancing yourself from other is easy. But saving others? Refusing to kill? Have faith and hope that everybody can be good? Now THAT'S something hard to do. It may be a naive point of view, but that's Papyrus true strength. So, here's an idea. In your fight, Papyrus already shows his power to control his magic, by cancelling his most powerful attacks (the Gaster Blaster kicked with a bone was REALLY well made). In my opinion, after the normal attack ends at 2:30, just before the words come in, Papyrus turn should end. Then, seeing how his normal attacks won't stop Chara, but he can't use his special attacks either, for fear of killing him, he decides to use a unique attack. An attack so powerful, only he can control it. I was thinking it would be something like, he fills the entire battle box with orange, so you can't stop moving, while he throws bones of different shapes and colours at you. Eventually, Chara goes down to 1 hp (the attack should grow stronger with time, making it impossible to dodge after a minute or so), and Papyrus stops the attack, begging you to stop once again. And only then, next turn, he uses the last attack, and is overcome with grief. What do you guys think?
+NOVILA [MUSIC] This should be implemented as the final boss in the "hard" level genocide run. It eradicates complete and utter existence of humanity in the character, and, if it were slightly more similar to the Sans battle, it wouldn't be "easy"
+TehAvenger29 he could make it so that after a first genocide run when you fight papyrus sans jumps in frisk s attack (because sans is aware of the resets )
joao neto I think it should be an Easter egg that in any run (except genocide), a small sans fight will initiate where the only way to kill him is to wait til he falls asleep, then fight. If you spare papyrus, then kill sans and go straight back to genocide, this fight would initiate. If you kill sans in a neutral, in the hallway, it will say: But nobody came. Additionally, Undyne's speech will be different. (Probably about how Papyrus didn't want to go to is meeting.) Also, sans is aware of resets, but he cannot remember the resets. He's just good at reading expressions.
I prefer this idea 100% more than Disbelief Papyrus. Not only does it feel in character for the pasta loving cinnamon bun, it feels a lot more tragic than Papyrus getting angry. Even after killing everyone he knows and loves, he still chooses to reach out to the goodness he believes is in you
Vulkin. He moves during the battles and by Checking them, it is revealed that the only reason they are attacking you is because they believe their lava heals people. Same with So Sorry, he's just clumsy and with Glyde, he only wants attention. ~~BUSTED~~
It's so sad. Despite you killing his neighbours, idol, and even brother, Papyrus still believes you're a good person to the point of holding back attacks even after having to dodge many of yours. He seems more than capable of killing you with ease, but doesn't, because even after all that, he believes in you. And then you take advantage of the grief that you caused, ultimately killing him.
Wow so sad. It's hard to believe some people go genocide their first run, and not just so they can get every possible ending! The undertale feels are real!
This fight is one of the better that I've seen. I really love the aspect of Papyrus trying to block his own attacks because he doesn't want to hurt you. My only criticisms are that the fight needs to be longer (don't hesitate to reuse attacks, as long as there's enough variety that it's interesting) and Papyrus' sprite needs to show emotion that fits with his current dialogue or actions. Also, the music is kick ass! I researched it a few times for that awesome song alone!
It's sad because he's the kind of guy who literally would never give up on you, so this is very accurate to his character. He wouldn't get mad, he'd much sooner get depressed and bawl his eye sockets out. Undertale nailed player morality. Every character feels really fleshed out and alive, and almost all of them weren't even really out to hurt anyone or was just trying to help the rest of their kind escape the underground. They make easy, long-lasting friends and will never leave you no matter what you do. Asriel was right. Monsters are weird, but in all the right ways.
This is actually more heartbreaking than the actual Papyrus confrontation during Genocide run in the game. Fuck, I'm tearing up over this. As much as I love the headcanon of Papyrus legit trying to kill you for killing Sans, I think this is more in-character for him. He wants the best for you and wants you to change, while keeping his pacifist attitude, and all he wants is his brother back. The parts where he tried to protect you from his own attacks were heartbreaking. The animation and sprites are very well done, too. Awesome job.
Who is your favorite character? Mine is easily Papyrus. He just seems to have so much character and pazzaz. I also love every other character, but Papyrus shines in a world of amazingness. And that's saying something considering every character is just incredible, even Chara.
+Hunter Fjeld Sans is my Fave, but Papyrus is amazing too. I went from humoring his (at the time, to me) stupid antics, to genuinely liking the awkward guy. This animation is amazing at continuing that.
Mason Clifton I remember Undyne saying something like him being as strong as her, but being incapable of causing lasting harm, although I might be misremembering things.
Shamus TheKnight Sorry for asking, but what did Sans and Toriel do? You could blame Toriel on the fact that she's over protective, but yet also you could blame Papyrus on being full of himself.
Nice fan battle. Loved him knocking the Gaster blaster away. The Sprite work was great too. I don't think the dialogue fits the original game completely but it is very feelsy and fits Papyrus' marshmallow character really well. Good job XD
Papyrus knocking the Gaster Blaster away is probably a reference to a line he says if you spare him on genocide run and then date him. He tells you that you're lucky he didn't use his special attack, because it would've blasted you, indicating that Papyrus knows how to use the Gaster Blasters, although he is never seen doing so. The most common fanon reason why Papyrus doesn't use the blasters is that, unlike Sans, he's simply too kind to actually use such a lethal attack on someone. This fight maintains Papyrus' refusal to actually kill anyone while simultaneously putting him under far greater strain than in his canon genocide fight, because you've killed a lot more people, including Sans, driving him closer to the point where he'd be able to kill, yet not taking him past it- which is what distinguishes this Papyrus from Disbelief Papyrus. He implies in the aforementioned date that he considered using the blasters on you before deciding to encourage you to change your ways instead, indicating that he was far closer to actually using the blasters in genocide run than neutral or pacifist, showing that he was pushed far closer to that point by your violence. Therefore, it's very fitting that in this fight, where he's been pushed a good deal further, he'd end up almost using blasters on you only to realise what he was about to do and stop himself.
Incredibly sad. Still though, the best depiction of genocide Papyrus, as well as the smoothest animation and the most creative I've seen in any Undertale fan battle. Good shit, dude. If this were real, though, I'm not sure Papyrus would have Gaster Blasters, and the fight would probably last a bit longer, consisting Sans' fight.
8 years later, and this still feels like the most in-character portrayal of Papyrus as genocide's final boss. Although I do think there'd be more to his fight than this, I still don't think he'd be as vengeful as he is in AU's like Disbelief.
Oh wow a Papyrus genocide battle were Papyrus actually acts like him self instead of angsty mc orange eye. Really well animated and the story telling was great. I can appreciate the hours you must of put into this so please keep making more content.
... that ending part of the conversation... the one where he's talking to sans... that's the second half of the conversation sans has at the end of his fight... isn't it?
you know i could honestly see this battle be recontextualized in a proper undertale hard mode papyrus fight in snowdin, where he manages to dodge your attack at the last second, and then this fight plays out
Wow... You're the only animation I've seen that can get the movements of the soul right, all the other animations have the soul randomly move really fast, so... Good job
Whenever I imagine a Papyrus final battle for Genocide, I always imagine his final line is just him calling to Sans for help, followed by the victory text with your EXP gained and all being changed with just 'But nobody came'. One last look at that recurring theme and a major kick in the dick when you realize you literally just became worse than LOVE 9999 Omega Flowey, letting you call for help just to tell you that nobody's coming.
As much as I love the alternate universe Genocide Papyrus who finally goes all out just to stop this extremely powerful, murderous child so that he can avenge Undyne, his brother, and everyone else, this is also a pretty nice take on it. Still believing there to still be some shred of humanity in what is now nothing more than a hollow husk. Something that is no longer human. Someone who has absolutely no good in them. Nothing redeemable about them. And throughout the fight, he keeps trying to convince you... or moreso, himself... that there's still a good person inside of you and each time, he nearly accidentally uses one of his most powerful attacks, he knocks it away or stops mid-attack because he doesn't want to hurt you. It's really sad. I don't know if I'd have the heart to kill this version of Papyrus at all. It's hard enough killing him in a normal Genocide run, but if this was the outcome, then... yeah. It'd be next to impossible to kill him.
I love that even if Papyrus isn't stronger than Sans in terms of raw power, he is still a credible threat in the complexity of his attacks. Sans' attacks are very straight forward and pattern oriented, focusing less on overwhelming you through sheer force but rather demanding an extreme level of skill on your part. Papyrus' attacks here are somewhat sporadic, twisting, spinning and moving in a way that forces you to react on the fly rather than planning it out ahead of time. I also like the personal idea that if he wasn't such a bleeding heart, Papyrus probably WOULD be a much more credible threat. Again, not because he is a stronger opponent up front, but rather because he trains with Undyne and keeps in shape. He likely wouldn't tire out as fast, and could keep the fight going a lot longer. I had to get that out there, I'm sorry lol.
I think the reason why Papyrus is not actually on the genocide route (well, he is, but he is a one-hit boss like muffet and Mettadon NEO) is because he is too nice. He can't get angry, unlike Sans. If Paps could get angry, then he would have a decent boss battle, but otherwise, no. He just wants you to change.
Harry Betlehem it's not that they are One-Hit-Kill bosses it's just that frisk becomes too powerfull that she (frisk and chara are girls for me) defeats them all with a single blow Undyne Undying is already death when you fight her and sans evades all attacks that you only hit him because of a glitch but in scale of power Papyrus is the fifth strongest monster in the whole underground. being also the third strongest in scale of magic
I love the headcanon that Papy is on par or even stronger than Sans. He just doesn't have the heart or intent to hurt even a fly.

*YOU CAN'T CUT BONE YOU FOOL!
you can actualy
+TheGoldenCookie with a sharp knife but if you don't have the dagger on (worn out dagger, toy knife) then you could not possibly cut papyrus with a stick
+Puzzle Bark If you can't cut bone, then you're just not *determined* enough.
Ever hear of a bone saw
+Wyatt Blackburn That's sawing, not cutting. Cutting involves a single motion in one direction, but sawing involves a back and forth one in two.
+Supaserrin The orange-filled box is a really great idea.
+Supaserrin Excellent idea!
That's pretty good, but at the quiz with Mettaton he always let's you stay with one HP too, so he can't kill you either.
+Supaserrin Indeed! I'd like to see that :)
sans also cant kill you when he smashes you against the wall on his last move.
Oh god.. I almost cried.. holy shite
i didnt
Connor Monie I didn't
Connor Monie ik didn't
Connor Monie i didn't cuz im a monster
oh hey we have the same picture
The line "huh, grillby's?" Was genius. Really well done! I like it a lot!
Toby Fox needs to add this in the actual game.
This is just perfect in everyway 😊
It perfectly fits into the game. The script, animation, music. Everything!
+NOVILA [MUSIC] It would be a little bit too sad and hearthbreaking for me so I'm glad that it's not in the game.
+NOVILA [MUSIC]
This should be implemented as the final boss in the "hard" level genocide run.
I love how the "papyrus??.....you want anything?!..." Is connected to this when you kill him.
The song used in this is so fitting.
ChrisCo-Op Gaming i like this song more on papyrus, it's a good battle theme
"Papyrus is overcome with greif." what's greif?
A typo. :D
nigga you're using the internet google that shit
Hey listen, even Toby made a spelling error in his game. Big deal.
The Countess of Monte Cristo I think this is an game version of an au
+Butter me up billy He means that it's spelled wrong dumbass.
im not crying, i got a bone im my eye ;_;
wait you got a bone?!... in your eye, that kinda hurt
Yes, it does
+GENO SANS that fell bro just let it all go
littoraly
my eye is bledding :D
I prefer this idea 100% more than Disbelief Papyrus. Not only does it feel in character for the pasta loving cinnamon bun, it feels a lot more tragic than Papyrus getting angry. Even after killing everyone he knows and loves, he still chooses to reach out to the goodness he believes is in you
i think so
I completely agree. Also, the fight and music are great!
+Luke Faber aha
Luke Faber the song if you are shearching it its called megalo strike back
i only noticed after rewatching that papyrus gets nervous every time the player takes damage. impressive attention to detail, good work.
Headcanon where if the character's sprite moves, they're attempting to kill you.
+Sligneris Undyne's sprite moves the most, other than Sans dodging.
And that's the case with both routes.
+MrChowder90 Undyne moves when you're in the face fight with her on the date.
supermariozelda But she yells "All out on both sides!" implying she was trying to kill you then.
+Sligneris She swings her arms during her fight, so she does move during her fight.
And then you take advantage of the grief that you caused, ultimately killing him.
thanks satan
+Skeleton Dad Uh, it's "Sa-tine".
+Bill Zypher GODDAMMIT!
+Bill Zypher did
did you just reference that movie
LittleSwifter232 ...
yes
Bill Zypher
i thank you
for bringing me back to 2010
even though it's practically 2016
So this is completely fanmade?
+MiroTech Software yes
+MiroTech Software I believe the music is reused though.
+Generic Name From Toby Fox's Earthbound Halloween hack, I'm pretty sure.
Toby actually made this soundtrack quite awhile before undertale
+MiroTech Software It's in the title. "AU". Alternate Universe.
Now the like butten is blue Thats my SPECIAL ATTACK :)
oh i get it. clever. my special attack is to recognize talent, but not give it likes.
its a beautiful day outside...
hey sans, i found papyrus, turned out Katelyn Mai just got the dust from the surface
+SuperWickedAwesomeGuy (SWAG) ( sans ) really dust really going there kido
My special ability is being able to detect lack of originality. Detecting a lot of that here.
Friend:why are you laughing?
Me:cause papyrus died!
Friend:OMG you monster!
HAHAHA, YEAH, I LOVE IT WHEN CHARACTERS I AM REALLY ATTACHED TO ARE BRUTALLY MURDERED. LOL FUNNY
We would get along well.
He's a Monster? UT fandom, ACTIVATE!
Did you just use monster as an insult? :P
+The potato family You are a monster!!!
Aegix Drakan Sans is my second favorite, followed probably by Toriel :3
+Aegix Drakan funny thing is, Papyrus is probably one of the most powerful characters in the game.
Mason Clifton
I remember Undyne saying something like him being as strong as her, but being incapable of causing lasting harm, although I might be misremembering things.
Good job XD
Stealthlock they fit almost perfectly
this is one of the best Undertale edits so far. it looks really legit! good job man :)
Who is cutting onionsan's
Chara
+Lemmy Skele-Derp Ffffffffffffffffffff
The Rainbow Auracorn I agree
I think
INVISIBLE NINJAS
Lol
its sad...he doesn't even want to hurt you
Papyrus knocking the Gaster Blaster away is probably a reference to a line he says if you spare him on genocide run and then date him.
HOW COULD YOU KILL THE PRECIOUS CINNAMON SKELE-ROLL ?!?
i am forever gonna use that term
easily.
Lol
I KNOW RIGHT! 😢😢😢😢
+Bruno Lapaj wat
Incredibly sad. Still though, the best depiction of genocide Papyrus, as well as the smoothest animation and the most creative I've seen in any Undertale fan battle. Good shit, dude. If this were real, though, I'm not sure Papyrus would have Gaster Blasters, and the fight would probably last a bit longer, consisting Sans' fight.
considering*
I'm crying. I saw this comic before and it also made me cry. Actually, Papyrus geno AU make me sad in general.
Damn you feels
8 years later, and this still feels like the most in-character portrayal of Papyrus as genocide's final boss. Although I do think there'd be more to his fight than this, I still don't think he'd be as vengeful as he is in AU's like Disbelief.
So far this is the most realistic version of a Genocide Papyrus.
Papyrus: I'm not crying , I've just caught something in my eye.
Me: What did you catch?
Papyrus:TEARS!!!
Oh wow a Papyrus genocide battle were Papyrus actually acts like him self instead of angsty mc orange eye. Really well animated and the story telling was great. I can appreciate the hours you must of put into this so please keep making more content.
Awwww
He didn't want to kill us
Poor Papyrus
I'm actually doin' Genocide (fightin' Sans)
Now because of that video I just want to RESET
Ahh! I was gonna do this. Nice job. :)
+Sam's Fantasy Land Twitter and Tumblr are mixed up in your bio. Just noticed that ;)

This is the OG Disbelief.
And I still enjoying watching it.
... that ending part of the conversation... the one where he's talking to sans... that's the second half of the conversation sans has at the end of his fight... isn't it?
What program did you use to animate this?
+Jason Dexter
*Adobe Flash CS4 for the animation
*After Effect for the particle dissolve effect
*Sony Vegas for sound editing.
+SuperWiiBros08 make a tutorials of how you made this fill us with. knowledge
Thesvivor2 I once streamed the making of one of my old fnaf videos....I might can do that again with this....
+Thesvivor2 Another cringey 8 year old. *Sigh*
+Domino the Dominator seriously? Did you have to add that unnecessary comment?
I cried.Really.
Thats an achievement
you know i could honestly see this battle be recontextualized in a proper undertale hard mode papyrus fight in snowdin, where he manages to dodge your attack at
the last second, and then this fight plays out
That last bit of the video is from an actual comic slip of Chara fighting Papyrus.
Ik but this is the video they got inspired from to do it
+Zamin Ahmed Nope. The comic came first. They even put it in the description of the video.
Just imagine this playing if somehow you managed to kill sans before papyrus.
Nope nope nope nope seeing this in comic form was rough enough how dare you do this to me
Wow... You're the only animation I've seen that can get the movements of the soul right, all the other animations have the soul randomly move really fast, so... Good job
This made me cry. I love papyrus
One of the only ones that has him in-character. (Also isn’t too over the top)
And i thought it was gonna be an actual game, or a fight actually on unitale or something. Good job! but... make it a game, will ya?
I have made a unitale mod it,takes a wile especially if your using constant animations like this
WHY COULDNT IT BE REEEEAAAAALLLLLLLL
So basically you would have to be very good at making mods
Oh it's Real, And it's Comming...
maybe,
eh. don't count on it.
SANS WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON UA-cam!?!?
Toby: makes a song for earth bound “Hey guys I made a song for-“
Ppl: AHHH ITS CHARA
Papyrus: hippity hoppity this song is now my property
I like how the gaster blasters want to kill frisk but papyrus dosent let them XD
That dust be flying from Papyrus's head at the end like sand from a Legend of Zelda boss.
That's so sad yet awesome
I was close to crying..
"Papyrus.. oh no.."
He's my favorite character.
"Oh well.. This is GENOCIDE! DIE!"
*You feel meatballs rolling down your back...
This. This is the video that introduced me to Megalo Strike back
Still like this more than the Disbelief Papyrus animation, as this one is a lot more in character.

I JUST HAVE SOMETHING IN MY EYE!
TEARS!
There are legit tears in my eyes.
Paps has gaster blasters ready and is screaming NOOOO
You’re gonna have a sad time.
i think a lot of au's like disbelief and stuff took a lot of inspiration from this
War.....
War never changes....
Windows XP Install disk This ain't war those, this is mass genocide
I think the reason why Papyrus is not actually on the genocide route (well, he is, but he is a one-hit boss like muffet and Mettadon NEO) is because he is too nice. He can't get angry, unlike Sans. If Paps could get angry, then he would have a decent boss battle, but otherwise, no. He just wants you to change.
Harry Betlehem it's not that they are One-Hit-Kill bosses
it's just that frisk becomes too powerfull that she (frisk and chara are girls for me) defeats them all with a single blow
Undyne Undying is already death when you fight her and sans evades all attacks that you only hit him because of a glitch
but in scale of power Papyrus is the fifth strongest monster in the whole underground. being also the third strongest in scale of magic
If you're keep going, maybe I can afford to learn better English!
This is sad, though.
etc2000gamer in happy i killed papyrus and his brother :-P
Chara Dreumurr no you didn't, the person who plays did.
Pikaman 2577 oh well they were playing as frisk and frisk is me so technically I did
Pikaman, please understand Undertale.
OMG, you went full Papyrus making this, kudos!. Of course he would restrain himself instead of harming you. Well done pal.
